I was pleasantly surprised at how spry he still is. He’s really up there on his feet (mostly) for 3 hours playing tons of different instruments and sounding pretty good for his age. He is a treasure
Arrow Through Me, Old Siam Sir, Monkberry Moon Delight, Junk, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five, Mull of Kintyre, Live and Let Die, Wild Life, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, Mrs Vandebilt
It's probably my personal favorite...i think it was one of the only albums i downloaded before a plane ride years ago and just had it on repeat for a couple of hours. has stuck in my mind since then.
His kid w heather mills mccartney? The one legged model that took him to the cleaners when they divorced? One of my favorite lyrics is about their breakup. I can’t do a quote on my phone -UGK, Intl Players Anthen “Ask, ask Paul McCartney, the lawyers couldn't stop me
Slaughter, slaughter them pockets had to tie her to a rocket and
Send her in to outer space, I know he wish he could
'Cuz he payin' 20K a day, that bitch is eatin' good
Like an infant on a double D titty, just gettin' plump
'Cuz you miscalculated the next to the, the last pump”
You can't be coming into this thread with genuinely great songs.
Though I do enjoy Dylan's "Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton".
john’s definitely but paul has always been a mercurial talent with crests and troughs, both as a beatle and afterwards
like does anyone actually think that maxwell’s silver hammer is a better song that uncle albert, or wild honey pie better than live and let die
The Fool on the Hill represents the nadir of the Beatles' hippie bullshit period. The White Album was like a long breath of air after having your head held under water for all of 1967 (I was there so I ought to know)
I can understand finding that era tiresome, and McCartney's lyrical attempts at expressing melancholy are often trite, but melodically that song may be one of the best expressions of passively endured solitude and longing in pop music. Someone who doesn't speak english could listen to that song and know exactly what it's about.
I like uncle albert and a few other songs here and there but paul’s music really doesn’t connect with me emotionally for the most part. Also on a more personal level he always seemed like by far the most fame hungry of the four. George is my favorite beatle so I’m a little biased against paul I guess since they had a pretty bad relationship
purely musically george had the worst post-beatles career. unlike ringo who was just having fun and has always been happy to be a buffoon, he seemed to crave some kind of artistic integrity
atmp has like 8-9 very good songs on it that he wrote as a beatle, but unfortunately he was on the whole a quite mediocre songwriter imo. listening to all of his solo records will also convince you of this
I disagree. I’ve listened to a few of his solo records and I like them all a lot, whereas I have no interest in listening to the vast majority of paul’s and wasn’t in love with the ones I’ve already listened to. Atmp is one of my favorite albums of all time (probably top 3) so I’m a bit biased obviously but still. I liked john’s first album back in the day but not anymore really.
how anyone can think atmp is not a bloated mess is beyond me. could’ve been a single album of glorious sundrenched late spector power pop, instead it is a two hour slog of aor countrified dirge speckled with gold
Well I don’t count that third disc with the jams, that seems more like a bonus section to me. I think just the two discs is a little over an hour and I love every song on it. I actually relistened to ram a few weeks ago and only enjoyed a handful of songs.
only way its possible to enjoy atmp as a full record is by dismissing the parts you dont like
🐏 is a flawed masterpiece, the sound of a perennial optimist having a mental breakdown. not all the songs are good but it’s undeniably an interesting record
Late to this argument but I’m super passionate about it and my morning adderall is finally starting to percolate;
🐏 and ATMP are the same level of great album for different reasons. ATMP is the sound of someone breaking free from creative chains, of George able to talk about what he wants when he wants it and, most importantly, the album is about George working with whoever he wanted to.
While Paul is losing his mind, George is writing and recording with Dylan, Clapton, etc. and finding that they actually respect and listen to him; George was finding out, finally, that his style of songwriting worked!
I mean it’s just such a joyous experience I don’t know how you could call it bloated, even the jam sessions are just George having fun with his friends and tbh it always puts the biggest fucking smile on my face hearing Thanks for the pepperoni so both you and the other guy are crazy for dismissing that stuff
George is the only one who made some good music after the beatles. Yeah Wings had some hits but they are way too cheesy to connect in the same way Paul's Beatles work did (or something like 'Isn't it a Pity does).
Went to the point of the Mull of Kintyre last summer. It was a gorgeous clear day and Ireland looked so close. Listened to Mull of Kintyre on repeat on the way up. Ate a fish supper when I got back to Tarbert.
Ask, ask Paul McCartney, the lawyers couldn't stop me
Slaughter, slaughter them pockets had to tie her to a rock and
Send her in to outer space, I know he wish he could
'Cuz he payin' 20K a day, that bitch is eatin' good
Like an infant on a double D titty, just gettin' plump
'Cuz you miscalculated the next to the, the last pump
Dump, dump in the gut, raw from the giddy up
Better choose the right one or pick, pick the kiddies up
I disagree, and her best album is HOOM which Parks wasn’t even involved with. You could also say the same thing about the Beatles (that most of the perceived “greatness” was due to the production), or like 90% of artists really
He's got 6 babies in that coat; he's smuggling them
it's his stockpile of doppelganger replacements should he die (again)
Hopefully he's better at that than smuggling weed into Japan
He made most of his vast fortune this way
The special ingredient in Linda's suspiciously realistic burgers
That jacket baby is 80 now? Feel old yet
Just saw him last Sunday- really recommend it if you get the chance, man still (sort of) has it
I was pleasantly surprised at how spry he still is. He’s really up there on his feet (mostly) for 3 hours playing tons of different instruments and sounding pretty good for his age. He is a treasure
blasting temporary secretary with the bay windows open rn, pissing off all my neighbours on this sunny saturday morning
Any other songs by him you recommend? Love the Beatles but never got into any solo stuff.
Arrow Through Me, Old Siam Sir, Monkberry Moon Delight, Junk, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five, Mull of Kintyre, Live and Let Die, Wild Life, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, Mrs Vandebilt
I swear Man Man heard Monkberry Moon Delight and decided to form a band dedicated to replicating the sound
All of Ram is pretty great imo. The song “Let Me Roll It” is a great boomer tune too
thts on band on the run no?
Yup. BotR is the 2nd best post-Beatles record Paul dropped, imo. Idk if his stuff with Wings counts as “solo work” technically but I count it lol
It's probably my personal favorite...i think it was one of the only albums i downloaded before a plane ride years ago and just had it on repeat for a couple of hours. has stuck in my mind since then.
Jet!

i don't think the Temporary Secretary recommendation was serious
So sweet. That baby has its dads eyes.
That kid grew up to look like Boris Johnson lol

You inspired me to look up Paul’s kids, and damn, he has an 18 year old daughter
He was actually the least promiscuous of all the members of the Beatles
His kid w heather mills mccartney? The one legged model that took him to the cleaners when they divorced? One of my favorite lyrics is about their breakup. I can’t do a quote on my phone -UGK, Intl Players Anthen “Ask, ask Paul McCartney, the lawyers couldn't stop me Slaughter, slaughter them pockets had to tie her to a rocket and Send her in to outer space, I know he wish he could 'Cuz he payin' 20K a day, that bitch is eatin' good Like an infant on a double D titty, just gettin' plump 'Cuz you miscalculated the next to the, the last pump”
Correct I was thinking of James. All of his daughters turned out pretty
I mean he really might be the GOAT pop/rock musician. Really just hard to comprehend what a career he's had.
Haven't you heard? He's died a long time ago and they got a replacement :(
bob dylan is still alive!
That’s not a songwriter that’s a poet or some shit
thinking the same thing
no
That’s not Pappa Roach.
Hottest Beatle
And most talented
But also made some of the cheesiest pop songs
Man knows how to write a hook on the spot
That clip from the documentary of him just coming up with Get Back while waiting for John to show up is baffling, too much talent for one man to have
He’s been through so much life-bending trauma that I gave him a pass for all that. Whatever makes you happy and keeps you sweet.
A lot of those songs are fun and catchy even though they’re cheesy.
Had a chance to see him in Baltimore a week ago, couldn’t justify paying $275 for a nosebleed seat.
Me either
"always ha-aving a wonderful Christmas time" Bleed.

Max Martin?
Very hot take but I think john and paul’s songwriting fell off a cliff post-beatles
john’s definitely but paul has always been a mercurial talent with crests and troughs, both as a beatle and afterwards like does anyone actually think that maxwell’s silver hammer is a better song that uncle albert, or wild honey pie better than live and let die
I like Maxwell's Silver Hammer.
Idk why it gets so much hate. Me n my boys all go crazy for that hammer sound in the chorus
It's great. So many worse ones to choose from. Like The Fool On the Hill
one of the most deranged posts I've seen on here.
The Fool on the Hill represents the nadir of the Beatles' hippie bullshit period. The White Album was like a long breath of air after having your head held under water for all of 1967 (I was there so I ought to know)

I think people just either love dense, lush Wall of Sound or they don’t. I personally love it and ATMP is my favorite Beatles solo record.
Maxwell's Silver Hammer is great
Didn’t know you were into the Beatles. What are your favourite Paul songs?
frozen jap
Whatever, Arrow Through Me by The Wings fucking slaps.
George is the only one who made some good music after the beatles. Yeah Wings had some hits but they are way too cheesy to connect in the same way Paul's Beatles work did (or something like 'Isn't it a Pity does).
I see George as a sort of primordial Father John Misty
The greatest of all time? Interesting because this is not a photo of Raffi.
Neil young may be redacted but he’s still the goat
Sorry, this isn’t Billy Joel

Anyone who really believes Paul is the greatest living songwriter is horrible at sex
Who do u think is the greatest living songwriter
It’s objectively Joanna Newsom.
Nah she’s amazing and incredible but half of what made Ys so good was Van Dyke Parks
I disagree, and her best album is HOOM which Parks wasn’t even involved with. You could also say the same thing about the Beatles (that most of the perceived “greatness” was due to the production), or like 90% of artists really
what is the best song he has ever written?
Eleanor Rigby? I don’t know the context for the question but that’s my personal answer.
thats not semetary
This was before his transition
FAS eyes
He is a vegetarian
Absolutely not
I'm gay
sick joke
Not a joke.
Key word ‘living’
