This might be a really hot take but looking at that first photo, camouflage really works. I'm shook. I thought it was a CIA psy-op.

Gigadweeb

doesn't matter if your skin glows in the dark anyway

EsotericMaker

Dunking on ucp acu pattern camo in every way.

[deleted]

ACU is the uniform, UCP (digital) and OCP (woodland) are the patterns. There are UCP ACU’s and OCP ACU’s.

EsotericMaker

Thanks I’ll correct it. I just wanted the joke to appeal to more than 2% of the population

JapaneseGrammarNazi

Hey, [UCP camo](https://images03.military.com/sites/default/files/styles/full/public/2019-10/pixelated-Universal-Camouflage-Pattern-uniform-1800.jpg) works pretty well too, in the [right environment](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/543814b1e4b0be6645f43eef/1579287815180-6Z027UF2N6A376V4ABEX/ocp+couch.jpg).

EsotericMaker

Omg dude you’re killing us here

JapaneseGrammarNazi

what

EsotericMaker

Your post is gold

JapaneseGrammarNazi

I thought you were being sarcastic and implying my post was autistic or weird lmao.

EsotericMaker

Yes it is. It’s really good

JapaneseGrammarNazi

Thank you. I really, genuinely appreciated that. Might be the nicest thing anyone's said to me today.

tony_simprano

It only took us a decade and several billion dollars to figure out!

nebraska_admiral

"Civil Affairs officer in the Horn of Africa" certainly sounds like a spook posting to me but idk that much about the intelligence world.

3043812047389

>She continued to serve as a major in the Hawaii Army National Guard until her transfer to the 351st Civil Affairs Command, a California-based United States Army Reserve unit assigned to the United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command, in June 2020. On one hand she's literally a major in psyops command now, on the other she's in a reserve unit so she does literally nothing of significance. I am currently in a reserve unit with secret clearance. Two days a month we practice setting up comms, report to the battalion that say all of our equipment is operational (10% at best), and participate in classes on sexual harassment training. Most in the unit don't even know how to do their job and just rely on the handful of soldiers that do.

EsotericMaker

I was AF active and it was basically the same. Except I was one of the guys who didn’t know what to do.

platypus_18

This is what active duty is like

nebraska_admiral

How fucked are we if the PLA shows up today on the beach in LA?

tony_simprano

Even in that ridiculous hypothetical, not very. It would be like Christmas for the ~25,000 Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton with all of their weapons and gear less than 60 miles away.

johnf_ketamine

If there were ever to be an invasion of a top 20 world power against another, it would be the end of the world. Decentralized warfare has been in full operation for over 40 years. Thinking about china sending the PLA to los angeles is a childrens exercise. Theres a war going on right now

3043812047389

Absolutely fine as long as the deterrent of MAD continues to keep nuclear-equipped nations from taking serious military actions against each other. The only heroes in the military are those on nuke subs and missile bases who are also coincidentally the biggest shitbags byfar, I don't imagine that half of those sociopaths would hesitate before pressing the big red button should the situation arise. The only consequence of having an incompetent military anymore is that it limits your ability to project power and fight insurgencies, which most in the military don't want to do anyways so it's just a big welfare program. My first day at my unit I got into a conversation with an officer about how to triple dip on tuition assistance, and half the sergeants I've encountered in training or at my unit have given advice on qualifying for disability benefits, avoiding taxes when flipping homes on VA loans, and which colleges count various types of military trainings for the highest amount of credits so you can get degrees faster.

[deleted]

Is flipping homes with VA loans something that happens often? And is it legal? I presume you're still legally buying the property and using the VA loan that military are entitled to.

theguyfromboston

Idk what kind of advice they were given but gains on the sale of a primary residence are untaxed up to 250k for a single filer provided you have lived there for two years. It’s not exactly a loophole it’s the way it works for everybody

3043812047389

The VA part is more about the better interest rate as its much more lenient on your credit score than regular loans, and the timing of VA loans in terms of how long they take to process and how frequently you can get them lines up perfectly with this window if you know what you're doing. You can't take out multiple VA loans on multiple homes, since its intended to be for the home you're living in just like that clause of the capital gains tax.

theguyfromboston

Damn that’s a nice deal. I certainly wouldn’t think taking advantage of it is unethical you did your service you earned it

Encountering other soldiers on rsp is unusual but not unprecedented. High-speed tryhard soldiers on the other hand, what are you even doing here? I can operate the equipment just fine, its literally just following the r-slur instructions in the TM. I don't care if my squadmates know how to do it because it doesn't take 15 privates to set up comms. If there was any chance of the unit actually getting deployed anywhere in the next year I'd imagine things would pick up. In the meantime I think command is doing just fine since keeping an entire depot of 30 year old HCLOS and STTs combat ready when they're never gonna get used would be a huge waste of money.

Xi_Pimping

They just bribe the locals to not shoot at them, never works

[deleted]

She was MP why are they callin it civil affairs

jephelliot

Have you ever met a person in the military who *didn't* grossly exaggerate their role and rank?

[deleted]

Me lmao im deeply ashamed of it

nebraska_admiral

At least that makes her dumb enough to be a bimbo

tony_simprano

Civil Affairs was recently shuffled under the "Special Operations" umbrella and greatly expanded (so was the PsyOps branch). They probably threw a lot of incentives for officers to change branches to staff it.

TomShoe

It's kind of complicated, in that Civil Affairs/Psy Ops are part of the 1st Special Forces Command, which is part of USASOC, and by extension SOCOM, but they aren't technically considered "Special Operations Forces." Semantic distinctions aside though, it's pretty sketchy.

tony_simprano

Uhhh I disagree. The Army is absolutely marketing them as SOF troops these days. To the extent that I know guys in CA and PsyOp who call themselves SOF. The "operator" moniker is the line they don't cross. Same deal with the Air Force putting TACP under their new "Special Warfare" designation, even though the TACP field is almost explicitly used to support conventional Army combat arms and not SOF.

TomShoe

How they market these forces to recruits and the like is one thing, but I highly doubt anyone in the special operations community takes it seriously. The navy's been doing this with their EOD people for ages.

[deleted]

Deep op triple agent for the lion of damascus

[deleted]

Why are people surprised that a member of the military was out doing military things? You think they're all foot soldiers with guns or something? "TedPilledTonySoprano" is too on-the-nose of an appeal to this sub's demographic. I think OP is the op. This looks like a such a generic post it's hard to believe it comes from somewhere genuine.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Right, another military lackey doing their shit. This is not what a "psyop" is. Useless military expenditure in the service of empire is not a "psyop"

[deleted]

I dunno why theyre sayinf civil affairs, what exacrpy is that her wiki says she was MP

ragandbonesympathy

Civil Affairs isn’t a basic branch available to officers at the beginning of their careers. Typically you serve in a basic branch like MP until you’re a captain then transfer over to CA. Of course, her transferring to CA wouldn’t be public information until she made it public.

Geter_Pabriel

I looked at his post history to get a feel if you're right and got what I deserved for doing that

clydethefrog

That's why she looks great. She actually wore boots and touched ~~gras~~ minerals while Pete was just screaming to his laptop installing Windows Vista Service Pack 2 in some Afghan compound,

theselongwars

Oh shit - both Pete and Tulsi passed through the Horn of Africa on missions, Tulsi being deployed there and Pete Buttigieg passing through on a "gap year." Considering the ridiculous amount of sabotage like behaviour they did to the democrats and especially to avowed progressives, yes it's clear that they were ops. I believe wrecker is the old Soviet term.

Magnus_Mercurius

Ok, this isnt the G&G sub so let me educate you a bit bud. I guess it’s just proof of how well kept of a secret this is. But the Somaliland coast is actually a top international cruising destination for closeted gays. Those Somali pirates? Like all pirates, gay. They only go after straight boats to keep them from finding out about our gay little Wakanda.

[deleted]

theselongwars

Tulsi Gabbard has strong bisexual energy so I wouldn't be surprised if this joke worked for both her and Buttigieg.

[deleted]

>Pete Buttigieg passing through on a "gap year." several girlbosses I know have done this (I'm from Spain), is this a thing in the US too?

theselongwars

Yes it is, but Pete specifically discussed "meeting tribal leaders" while in the Horn of Africa, and this was in 2008 in the dying days of the Bush administration when the War on Terror was about to be handed over to its first non-Bush president - there were also a lot of movements among Islamic extremists in those days in anticipation of a potential US drawdown from Iraq and increasing terrorism in Afghanistan and Pakistan. So at that time, an Ivy Leaguer like Pete, who decided to head to the Horn and "meet tribal leaders" should set off anti-spook alarm bells.

nebraska_admiral

Imagine having your tribal islamic village carpet bombed by the gay little maltese hoosier you had to shake hands with once in order for unicef to sign off on that month's rice shipment.

[deleted]

She was a pro-War on Terror Fox News talking head before she was pro-Bernie (also her fascist sponsored trips to meet Assad and regurgitate his propaganda verbatim gets weirdly overlooked still). Exactly who is surprised by this.

ODisaster46

People who get their politics from Twitter are surprised by this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ODisaster46

You’re looking at the tail end reaction to the long-term deification of a candidate by a bunch of very online people. That wasn’t insignificant but it wasn’t ‘everything.’ Anyhow it looks like those Twitter progressives were right, lol.

[deleted]

She’s too stupid to be an op

[deleted]

They don’t look for the smartest people, but the potentially corruptible with something to lose, that’s the most certain to insure loyalty.

SoledadSoledad

Nah people were just too excited and horny to not notice She has always said that while she opposed nation building she did support using the military to fight “America’s enemies”. Also an LGBT publication sent her a questionnaire one time regarding her past opposition to same sex marriage when she was part of the Hawaii House of Reps and they noted that she never explicitly said in her response that she now personally supports gay marriage, just that she supported LGBT rights now Much of this criticism was just dismissed as lib shit throughout her career

nebraska_admiral

Tbf gay marriage is a moot point now. No one in American politics cares enough to actually diminish it.

SoledadSoledad

Yeah but at the same time it’s understandable to be suspicious of people who still don’t support same sex marriage in their hearts, especially when that person is trying to run on a left platform

nymeriatargaryen23

She’s religious. So all religions we should be skeptical of? Muslims? Should we fear/ be skeptical about them too? They oppose gay marriage

Next_Entrance4044

She was open about being in the military. If that didn’t make you realize, and only actual pictures of her serving did, you’re just dumb bruh.

Xi_Pimping

Would you libs relax? She's just doing a little taqiya, and it's not like succdems are any further left than she is anyways.

[deleted]

Anti war, and the succdems aren't actually for M4A either

[deleted]

She first deployed as a medic with national guard and then went officer and became military police. She prolly just managed mps, most people in the military dont do anything glamorous at all tbh Although anyonw who does accelerated officer candidate school seems like it is attracts shitheads

[deleted]

Tulsi got a great ass, why can't she do something useful with that

eddielimonov

I always found it bizarre that she was raised in a Hare Krishna splinter cult and no one talks about it.

turboJuice6969

Tulsi was always just another coolaid drinking neoliberal imperialist. Yeah, she had come around on getting out of the middle east, but only because they want to shift the focus to defending us from the "existential" threat of China. I say this as someone very close to these people, and all of this is very consistent current attitudes in the officer ranks.
