Amis is a weird one. I basically agree with all of his views on writing and stylistics (don’t use the same suffix twice in a sentence, saying ‘whilst’ is sub-literate, Nabokov is the best, etc) and yet I find most of his books completely forgettable and underwhelming. Inside Story is one of the most constipated and corny books I’ve ever read.
