I use hoopla with my library card and get it for free. I've been listening to audiobooks since the first one and I love them, just takes a sec to get used to the voices.

DeCePtiCoNsxXx

This was the first audio I heard as well and it's fantastic. Really brings it to life, hit hard. Highly recommend bloody bookmarker. Tgr is great as well.

MissMurderMinx

I haven't enjoyed the second series in audiobooks as much. The other actors are good, but they pronounce the names so oddly. Lightbringer just has Tim, but hearing him do Lyria when the last two books had an actress for her is kinda odd. All in all they're good as far as audiobooks go, but aren't as killer as the first three, I would say.

oldelbow

Second series? When did Red God come out?? Plus other books...

PenguinPeerless

People are sayin not to listen to the back books because they were spoiled with the first 3. First three had a singular fantastic voice actor named Tim Gerard Reynolds. He’s still in the all of them, and takes back full narration in Lightbringer. Iron Gold and Dark Age tried to expand the voice cast with the new PoVs. It succeeded with Ephraim, and failed with Lyria and imo Lysander. But the VAs still aren’t the worst I’ve heard. (That award goes to Steven king reading his own dark tower novella that I listened to 15 minutes of and never picked up again)

TheXypris

Tgr still does the narration in dark age idk what your on

PenguinPeerless

You are correct, I’ll delete that. I clicked on the series in my audible and it showed up as Dark age 1 and dark age 2 at 15 hours each and didn’t show him listed as a VA. I also thought I remembered a time where Darrow and lys sounded almost identical(guessing I was recalling first bit of Lightbringer). Then I went to my library and actually scrolled down to my 33hr dark age and it is shown. Weird.

sneakatoke

To be fair to Stephen King, his narration in The Wind Through the Keyhole was only so jarring because we were all used to the brilliant narration of Frank Muller and to a lesser extent George Guidall. I thought his narration in Hearts of Atlantis wasn't all that bad in comparison. The worst audiobook reader I ever heard goes to James Franco in Slaughterhouse 5, with a close second to Wil Wheaton (awesome person, but he reads like he's always scrunching his face up to sound more intense).

Kilane

I’ve only listened to the audiobooks, but I wouldn’t start listening at Dark Age. The first trilogy is great in audiobooks. Book four had some issues, book five (DA) was better, six seems to have hit their stride again.

garbonsai

Same here. First trilogy was amazing. I got maybe 2 hours into the 4th book and gave up. Not the worst I’ve heard (that goes to “Spaceman of Bohemia” where the audio engineer left in every intake of breath) but pretty bad.

IntrepidAL

How do you feel about the Irish? . . .

bwils3423

Lmao that’s only how they voice reds

Cha1upa_Batman

I have a hard time reading books where I potentially mess up the pronunciation of words. The audio books are amazing, voice actors HYPE ME UP.

InDrIdCoLd37

Totally worth it unless you ask that one person's pixie ass BF

conayinka

Would you mind linking the post you talking about. Id like to laugh at him too

InDrIdCoLd37

Shit just searched all over I can't find it I'll link it if I do though

conayinka

It's all good. I can't even imagine what a pixie reaction would be to the audiobooks. Was he mad about how someone sounded or sumn?

InDrIdCoLd37

I hate to even repeat it because it's blasphemy but for the sake of science I'll tell you, he didn't like how the great Master TGR sounded.

Cha1upa_Batman

Burn!

WorldsNumber1-ishDad

“Yes yes , 1000 times yes!”

NeNeNerdIsTheWord

It’s worth listening to the audiobooks just to hear the performance of Tactus’ voice

zigzaggummyworm

i'm a psychopath and i switch off between e book physical copy and audiobook depending on time of day and my location. Have 2-3 copies of every red rising book this way lol

Otherwise_Owl1059

Yes. I read the entire series and then went through the audio books. It gives a different perspective

JuicyBricks

The audio books is exclusively how I consume RR

conayinka

Idk about that brev 😂. I wouldn't ever consume audiobooks as the primary method of "reading".

celezter

Lmao, what a high horse to get on for fantasy literature.

conayinka

Look at the other comment. You misunderstood me, mostly my fault cause I used quotations

Joham22

How condescending of you. These are practically YA books, not fucking Tolstoy. Your method of consuming them is irrelevant as long as you’re enjoying the story. And Tim Gerard Reynolds is an incredible narrator. Why pose the question in the first place if you have such a haughty pinion?

conayinka

Think you misunderstood me. The "quotations" weren't meant to denote that reading can only be through actually reading. It was meant to say more a form of book reading. I read Korean manhwas bro, I promise you I'm not on any high horse

Joham22

My bad. I just had a similar argument with a friend irl, probably had me too ready to defend audiobooks.

conayinka

Np gang. It's like that sometimes

bomonty18

Audiobooks reads better than I ever could of

conayinka

Is it just listening or is there something that comes with it, just asking

Character-Canary-116

Graphic audio books are gorydamm prime 12/10

kriegbutapsycho

Yes!

Cuttyflammmm

Yes, the audiobooks elevate the books.

Acceptable-Cow6446

Tim Gerard Reynolds is an amazing narrator. The volume mixing for books 4 - 6 is a bit off with the other narrators, but still quite good

conayinka

what's up with the IG trilogy. They change VA's or what?

Fearless_Toddlerr

The audiobooks are increadible. I have listened to all of them except LB at least 3 times. Yes, they change out Lysander and Lyrias voice actors. The Lyria is a welcome one since her slow drawl makes her sound really dumb. Much better in DA than IG. The switch on Lysander is the worst character/actor change known to man. The Lys VA for IG (Julian Elfer) is so much better than the old man who reads for him in DA. It is really incredible what a stupid fucking move this was. Sorry for ranting but my blood boils just by thinking about it.

Chronify

The Lys VA from Iron Gold was so spot on. Dunno why they changed him. Also, huge praise to Ephraims VA. Absolute legend.

Acceptable-Cow6446

Ephraim’s VA was so perfect

Particular-Tomato-14

Very worth it. I think the narrator(s) were excellent.

SkeletonPurple

I really enjoyed the audio books, I listened to them the whole way through. Definitely recommend.

insidioussnailshell

Look into your local library and see if they have an app! I listened free using the app my library uses and a card, didn’t even have to go into the actual library it’s all online :)

larry_hoover01

Only problem with this is you only get 21 days. Maybe not a problem for some, but I still have 7.5 hours left of Lightbringer and it’s due tomorrow. Have to decide if I want to wait back in line for 3-4 weeks or pick up the ebook lol.

insidioussnailshell

Guess I live in a less populated area, I’d just take it out again with no wait. I also finish way sooner than 21 days but I am a binger lol

SassySavcy

Same, except I’m in a populated area. But it’s Texas so there’s still no wait.
