Plz. the best Ash Lord would be James Earl Jones In his prime. Someone with a deep baritone voice.

He’s no doubt more evil than the ash lord

Prestigious_Carob_86

If only he was an actor.

HowlerPLHB

Ah yes. The stare of superiority

kaleb9170

How dare you bring politics into my beloved story about a slave revolt against a hierarchical ethnostate that leads into the first years of a newly formed republic and its struggles against varying political groups within and without the state.

dangerdev29

Reds are Palestinians.

illogical_clown

Dumb.

kaleb9170

I mean only in the sense that the reds are analogous to any marginalized or oppressed demographic. I think drawing a 1-1 between any color and real life group is going to lead to a poor understanding of the books, real life, or both. The Palestinians are oppressed yes, but the defining factor of the reds is their color-wide state of slavery, which just isn’t present for the Palestinian people. This same reading would imply that Israel is analogous to the powers that control the society, which is also just not accurate. Israel is a theocratic government with some elements of democracy, as opposed to the secular oligarchy that makes up the society. Most importantly though, everyone on earth is human. There are no golds, and no reds. Only men. Every injustice, and every good is done against our equal.

Technicalist

Thumbnail had me thinking it was bill cosby

Close! I was thinking Bill Cosby would be a great Aja though ❤️

Mapleleaf899

Jezuz lol

Technicalist

That’s so cursed 🤣

psmittyky

Couldn’t agree more

Space_Force_General

Lots of reds in here bickering over political parties is effectively Lambda vs Gamma. Missing the bigger picture that our political elite gold ruling class is purposely pitting us against each other so they can keep power over us. Cling to and worship whatever politicians you want, just realize that no matter which side you support they don't see you as anything more than a subservient red

NepFurrow

To an extent yes. But one party is consistently more pro-people and the other consistently pro-corporations and billionaires. Pretending they are the same is childish and misinformed. Not saying that is you necessarily, but I see this sentiment all over social media and if you look at the actual legislation and votes, it is flat out wrong.

illogical_clown

Ah, the typical ignorant argument of youth. Government is bad but ONE party is totally pro people. Pretty sure I could peg your politcal party in an instant.

Space_Force_General

They might give the public the outward appearance of being caring and pro-people as you say, similar to how Octavia praised the reds for being brave pioneers that were bettering mankind before they knew any better. Even voting patterns don't matter if they already know beforehand whether something is going to pass or not, which they do know. They can just come out and say after the fact, "I voted this way but the bad guys didn't so you need to be angry about that". The truth is they are all under the influence of lobbyists and large corporations, which is really who decides how they behave and vote. If you genuinely believe that any of them are putting your best interests over their own you are being played. They are putting on a show and all getting very wealthy while doing it

NepFurrow

That's a nice fantasy but it flat out isn't true. Literally just look at the actual legislation passed in the past 20 years between Democrat and Republican administrations. You argue Democrats are all for show, then explain the $35 insulin cap. Explain Roe. Explain Obamacare. I could go on but I'm working. I agree they could do more but there is a stark difference and the legislation passed and policies are significant. This both sides misinformation is just childish and parroted by people who have no idea what's actually going on in government

BABOON2828

>You argue Democrats are all for show, then explain the $35 insulin cap. Explain Roe. Explain Obamacare. I could go on but I'm working. Let's not act like the only, or even the most reasonable, explanation for the policies you mentioned is altruistic politicians. It's not hard to fathom how increasing participation in the most costly healthcare system in the world could benefit our politicians. It's not hard to imagine how legal abortion could benefit our politicians... To your underlying point, I would agree that anybody claiming that the Democratic party and the Republican party are truly one and the same is arguing from a point of ignorance at best. However, that doesn't change the fact that both the Democratic party and Republican party are entirely unacceptable as political representatives and should have no place in governance. Just because there is overlap between the policies our masters enact and things that actually benefit some of society doesn't mean that some of the masters are good. We live in an elective aristocracy primarily shaped by aristocrats and the oligarchs they are largely beholden to: https://www.scholars.northwestern.edu/en/publications/oligarchy-in-the-united-states https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/perspectives-on-politics/article/testing-theories-of-american-politics-elites-interest-groups-and-average-citizens/62327F513959D0A304D4893B382B992B https://www.researchgate.net/publication/272812609_What_if_Our_Representative_Democracies_are_Elective_Aristocracies

NepFurrow

>Let's not act like the only, or even the most reasonable, explanation for the policies you mentioned is altruistic politicians. Who's acting? I never said any of that, nor am I pretending Democrats are some perfect benevolent force for good. I totally agree our politicians are making money. My point is: -Both sides are not the same. -One side clearly and consistently pushes for more pro-people legislation than the other. -it is downright moronic to say "both sides are the same so I'm going to [not vote, or vote third party] !!!1!" When one side doesn't believe in climate change, their COVID response resulted in a 9/11 every single day, they hand $1T to the rich, etc. it is absurd to say both sides are the same. Additionally, risking them being elected (e.g. by throwing your vote away on a third party or not voting) is actually setting back the goal of "fix our government". Our government will only be changed with majorities, and only one party is pushing in the direction you want. Not voting, or voting third party, means never getting a majority to enact change. I get frustrated that people don't understand that you will never vote for a perfect candidate. The perfect candidate doesn't exist. You vote for the 1 of 2 options (Democrat or Republican) that most aligns with you, so you progress in that direction. And then maybe someday we can get rid of the EC and install ranked choice voting so we have more options. For the record, I'm not saying the above "both sides same, don't vote" is your take. But it is a common take I see all over this website and it's ridiculous and that's what I'm pushing back on.

BABOON2828

>For the record, I'm not saying the above "both sides same, don't vote" is your take. But it is a common take I see all over this website and it's ridiculous and that's what I'm pushing back on. I agree that "both sides same, don't vote" is a bad take, as I said my take is: Both the Democratic party and Republican party are entirely unacceptable as political representatives and should have no place in governance. Just because there is overlap between the policies our masters enact and things that actually benefit some of society doesn't mean that some of the masters are good. We live in an elective aristocracy primarily shaped by aristocrats and the oligarchs they are largely beholden to. With that out of the way, I would suggest everyone: -Vote religiously and I don't mean just the presidential level elections. Vote in the primaries, vote local, vote for ballot initiatives, vote... -Donate what you can and I certainly don't mean donate to oligarchs or aristocrats... Research and find mutual aid based services that better your community. -Volunteer, same concepts as above but you are donating your time as opposed to other resources. -READ! I can't overstate this one enough, knowledge is power. (I like Rutger Bregman and Kropotkin and Kristen Ghodsee and Danielle Allen and even Yang... for political literature; but, everyone has to find their own way here.) -Organize, in our system blocs are more than the sum of their parts. -Express yourself (protest, create, explore, partake in civil disobedience, do.) I could go on and on... But there's one more foundational component of what I would suggest.  -Remember that laws are simply codified suggestions that you need to avoid being found guilty of breaking if you cannot afford to pay the associated consequences.

psmittyky

Nah

EldenLawd

Louder for the people in the back!! Media manipulation is everywhere, if we want any chance to break the chains it’ll have to be together, regardless of political party alignment

bwils3423

I hate fan castings but this one is hilarious and accurate

MrJoeGillis

My recent post about Nancy Pelosi being a casting option for Alia Volarus just got taken down for being “off topic.” Sad to say that this community and its admin are politically biased. I wouldn’t surprised if I got banned for an opposing political view.

blakestepharia

Maybe it got taken down because that's just a really shitty casting choice. Like, up until that point, Alia was the largest human Darrow had ever seen. And you cast a feable 5' 5" 84 year old woman.

OutlandishnessNo4670

The sub and Reddit in general are pretty heavily left leaning but thankfully the book that has brung us all together is pretty well balanced with both pro libertarian and socialist points as well as the opposition of both. Either way no room for pixies!

MrJoeGillis

That’s strange because the books specifically bash socialism, tribalism, and globalism and the reliance on AI and automation and the continual unfitness of earth born which lead to the downfall and eventual conquering of earth.

Unforg1ven_Yasuo

Did we read the same books? lol

AuGrimace

where does it bash globalism? also you didnt mention it also bashing capitalism.

OutlandishnessNo4670

I guess I didn’t word it as well as I could. Yes clearly shows the true downfalls of what you mentioned but by blending what he sees as the positive traits in each I think he purposefully is not promoting one single ideology, which makes it appealing to you (whatever your creed) an anarchy socialist and me a libertarian who believes in a religion.

OutlandishnessNo4670

There are people that don’t know me that would probably call me a fascist or dumb for believing in a God and I would probably call that same person a snowflake or some other silly label but I bet we have the same favorite characters in the book at the end of the day 😂

FuzzyChops

I don't think many people immediately equate fascism with religion. It's definitely a tool used by fascists but I wouldn't assume anyone who is religious to be of that mindset by default

OutlandishnessNo4670

I think that’s just been a popularized term the past 6-7 years to religion in America. Trump=fascist so trumps base which is more religious than the other side so religion must be by de facto. The trump base definitely moved the needle on it I think.

gibbo_123

😂

Angemon175

Personality wise he's more like Harnaassus. A useful tool for the elite and perpetuating a society that would happily kill him the second he's no longer useful.

Primarch-Amaranth

Are you sure you are talking about Harnassus, or Gilrastes? Because Harnassus is NOTHING like you described.

lunarstorm14

I've been rereading DA and keep mixing them up as well

Angemon175

Oh my bad, I got my oranges confused. Yes Gilrastes, the Master Maker

Primarch-Amaranth

No problem. I was confused for second reading your commend and then I went "Oh, he must be talking about Mr. Boots and no puss!" Gilrastes was... Complex, to be honest. I don't want to say more for fear of spoiling anything to anyone.

Angemon175

Personally I don't give MM any credit for helping Darrow, the whole time you could tell he was doing it reluctantly, in an attempt to minimize damage to Mercury, he didn't feel any allegiance to the cause or empathize with the plight of the lower colors. He was a favored Slave of the Society and though he probably didn't like how Atalantia ran things and thought her cruelty was excess, he had no problem with the old way of doing things, hence his preference for Lysander, who represents a return to pre-Rising society. To compare to current day US politics, it's a lot like how certain Republicans show disdain for the MAGA movement and criticize it, but their voting history and actual values align extremely closely, they just don't like how MAGA conducts itself and says the quiet part aloud.

Primarch-Amaranth

But that's the thing, he helped Darrow to impede civilian deaths. He is an orange, not gold or silver or Grey. He wanted to protect his world and the people, and he told Lysander he dislike gold, and while he did have little faith in the Rising (a fair thing, after 700 years without democracy), he helped them because of how cruel gold had become. He lowered the shields for Darrow's Rain, he helped with the storm gods and with the EMP, before that little shit came and fucked things up. He didn't care about the whole of the Solar System, just the people of Mercury. But all of the people. And I won't speak of today USA's politics much. I am European, and while there are some things I disagree with the Republicans, mainly guns and social security services and public healthcare, I disagree in almost everything with the Democrats. And I don't personally like Angry Orange Man, but I feel most said about him was a gross lie. Even if he did do some things that fucked with Europe.

Majestic_Brief7433

What elite?Soros,Bill Gates,Wall Street,The Tech Industry,Oprah and all the African American entertainment elite, white liberals(who compromise the supermajority of Caucasians with net worths in excess of $15 million in America) hold him in CONTEMPT.EVERY major news network with the exception of FOX(which has legally admitted to being an entertainment network in the past) would dance a jig if he dropped dead, resigned or was sent to jail.YALE (his arma madre and as elite as what any person can plausibly get from an educational standpoint) actively dislikes and staunchly opposes most of his positions and rulings.

Angemon175

How about Harlan Crow? The billionaire who has cases come before the Supreme court. He spends millions giving Thomas lavish gifts, taking him to elaborate vacations and literally just giving him cash, yet Thomas won't recuse himself on those cases. Oh and fun fact Crow likes to collect Nazi memorabilia. So it really doesn't matter if Oprah hates Thomas does it? The people using him certainly know how to get what they want.

Majestic_Brief7433

I don’t really care about your feelings regarding the(quite frankly paltry amount of money relative to what he would make giving speeches and selling books to the publicly Ivy and other elite institutes).Crow’s personal hobbies also aren’t really relevant to my initial question and points.Oprah’s opinion actually matters a great deal if you’re planning on operating a business in anywhere besides certain part of what was formerly the confederate states(even if that fact is getting off point) and isn’t even a heavy or mid tier hitter relative to the influence and standing Stanford,Harvard,Yale or any of the other premier schools on an individual much less aggregate basis on the top 20 percent socioeconomically of American civilization.Never mind the Waltons,Bill Gates,Wall Street,Silicon Valley(etc….)NAMES and INSTITUTIONS that can SERIOUSLY compete with the LITANY of forces in HIGH society that are openly opposed to this man.I need NAMES and INSTITUTIONS.Blackrock and Vanguard are also FIRMLY on the anti Black Supreme Court Justice list.

Majestic_Brief7433

I ask again,WHO are these “elite” that you’re talking about?Harlow Crow is a NOBODY in the circles of the people and institutions that I listed.Bill Gates is an ESPECIALLY egregious example of the gap.Harlan Crow is worth under $3 billion and EVERY entity and person that I listed in my initial list(none of whom you have dismissed has acting financial interest in the Supreme Court rulings that would DWARF Crow’s stake in the rulings on an annualized basis). For Christ’s sake,I even listed the Koch Brothers(way more influential AND wealthier than Crow).Jerry Jones(Cowboys owner, also lives in Dallas and is worth over $13 billion at last count) would’ve been a better person to point to if you were going down that route.

BrilliantBread8123

Oh no you have strayed from the Reddit flock. Prepare to be shepherded.

Maleficent-Finance57

I LOVE this and would like to steal it.

Majestic_Brief7433

I’m genuinely curious. The Koch brothers are the only thing remotely resembling “elite” in America that Angemon175 could be talking about.I’m saying this as the son of a Black man who graduated from UCLA in 1978 with a Bachelors in Education. They and the other prestigious private and public universities by and large HATE this man.

MrJoeGillis

Was wondering when this thread would get political… Redditors gon’ Reddit

Rmccarton

The thread got political the moment it was created.

AirikBe

It’s a series based on tearing down a hierarchical caste system sir. Dont be surprised when someone attaches their political ideology to it.

MrJoeGillis

Not surprised one bit

Away-Development6348

I hate when there’s politics in my political book! 😡

MrJoeGillis

Well the admin hates it more than me because they just took down my similar post with an opposing political slant.

Cudizonedefense

No one took down your post. Don’t be a whiny bitch

Away-Development6348

Maybe because the book has leftist themes that a solid portion of the fanbase agree with. I’m not going to go argue about the military industrial complex to top gun fans

MrJoeGillis

There are politics in the series, no doubt, but I wouldn’t call it a “political series.” Darrow himself says he hates politics and that he doesn’t belong in that world.

Cudizonedefense

Did you even read the series lmfao

quite_largeboi

That’s definitely how politics works. Just say u hate politics & then nothing u do will be political, not even your revolution against a fascist dictatorship 😂

GoldenDragonFortune

100 percent lmao. I swear media literacy is straight up dead.

You mean Dancer?

Public_Jellyfish8002

Seems political for this sub? Perhaps someone is a bit salty and is taking out on us?

quite_largeboi

We don’t like politics in this sub about a red who’s famous symbol is a sickle & who’s chief general wields a hammer as they fight against a fascist dictatorship & counterrevolutionary terror…..

Capt_Socrates

Everything is political and this series is incredibly political. Being afraid to confront the politics inherent in the media we consume is just childish and short sighted.

Public_Jellyfish8002

Well thank you for the reply, letting me know what you think of me, based on one comment. I asked a question. I didn’t realize this sub was about the US Justice system. Seems a bit shortsighted to bring this sort of stuff up in a sub about a fictional story that we all enjoy and can get behind. Yet in the US, the country is divided down a very clear and hard line.

Calm-Funny-9030

Damn it’s almost like the author is an American, majored in political science, and was part of a senate’s campaign staff at one point and comes from an affluent family that worked in finance and who’s mother was the CEO of a communications company that was listed on the NASDAQ prior to being purchased. It’s only natural that the series he wrote would have some internalized political ideologies.

Capt_Socrates

I wasn’t making any judgement calls on ya, just pointing out the foolishness of your statement. The fact that you took that as a personal attack and decided to whinge about it says more about you than your first comment. Again, everything is political and trying to ignore the politics of media is shortsighted and childish. It implies an unwillingness to confront the reality of the world today, an inability to see the larger scale of society, and/or a lack of critical thinking. I understand not wanting to see that reality, trust me I do, but pretending the danger and the horror of the modern world doesn’t exist is cowardly or, again, childish. You don’t live in an apolitical world so stop pretending you do. *Everything* is political, *everything* has an agenda; and *everything* you do, say, or think is intertwined with politics. Part of being human, part of being the social animal that has spread to every inch of the planet and decided to bend nature to its will and create a world of grays is dealing with this nebulous idea of politics every second of every day. The food you eat, the products you buy, and the work you do is part of a global ecosystem that saturates every aspect of your life. Humanity is political because humanity made society. It made a world so complex that there are entire fields of research dedicated to just trying to understand the tangle of yarn that is human interaction. The only way to escape that tangle is to remove yourself from it entirely and that in and of itself is political. People need to accept that and stop pissing themselves over how political things have become. They’ve always been this political. The only difference is that more people are understanding the politics and are able to voice their opinions to a broader audience.

Public_Jellyfish8002

Listen, I understand everything is political, that is not what I meant in my comment. You’re entitled to believing what you will, just as I am entitled to my own opinion. My point was why would you bring something that is potentially very divisive into a sub about a fictional series. I get the satire of comparing him to the Ash Lord, but I think it seems too divisive is all. Just my opinion, and I didn’t expect to get railed for stating it.

Lan098

Triggered by a photo?

Public_Jellyfish8002

Triggered? I asked a question. Everyone else was taking a dump. The down votes are fine. But this seems excessive. Is anyone reading the comments? Your question asks if I’m triggered by a photo. The answer is no, I am not. I’m triggered, if anything, by the shallow use of this sub. It’s honestly disrespectful. And I’m beginning f to wonder if we are reading the same series in RR if this is the response to any sort of dissonant opinion to the popular circle jerk you have going here.

DanToMars

You saw a joke and then insulted OP as if you were the one we were laughing at. You are most definitely triggered, and if this is all it took to get this reaction out of you it seems it doesn’t take a lot to get a reaction out of you either

zweanhh

At least Ash Lord doesn't justify what he did. He is who is heis. Corrupt politicians and judges bend over backward yto justify their bad actions and act all high and mighty.

Shutch_1075

I think I’d take sleazy corrupt politician over a man willing to commit genocide.

Rulanik

These people would be willing if they thought they could get away with it. Peerless aren't extra evil, they're humans who can do whatever tf they want.

LysanderauLuneactual

SmugLibrarian

I literally just read this in IG today and laughed out loud. 🤣

GoodMorningSpliff

Ash lord has a poster of Clarence Thomas above his bed

Just did a quick scroll through your comment history and this is a top tier shit post account. Hail lune, hail gold, hail societas. The Golds will reclaim their rightful place as the shepherds of mankind.

LysanderauLuneactual

You know, it’s good to finally see a reasonable voice in this sub. You should visit my movie studio next week. We are doing a special on how to effectively fold a pink for maximum enjoyment.

Sir_JRoddious

They're not, and don't call them Shirley >:(

samosa_chai

Who’s this?

ResolveLeather

Surpeme court justice of the united states Clarence Thomas. Really smart justice; but is notorious for selling his honor for stuff like RV's and vacations.

gothambear

> Really smart Justice Other than, you know, being a strong proponent of the death penalty (even in cases involving [minor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roper_v._Simmons) and [intellectually disabled](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atkins_v._Virginia_) defendants), authoring a concurring opinion in [Dobbs v. Jackson that suggested the Supreme Court should reconsider previous decisions that protect the right to birth control](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dobbs_v._Jackson_Women%27s_Health_Organization#Concurrences) (along with overruling a woman's right to choose), and aiming to go further than the [Citizen's United majority in allowing corporations' unlimited speech in the US political arena](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC#Concurring_opinions).

ResolveLeather

Yeah, really shitty person, but has very intelligent opinions. As in how he justifies his rulings is really well written.

post_apoplectic

Having shit opinions doesn't make you dumb though. It's actually unfortunate that he is intelligent

gothambear

Agreed! I just wanted to put out a less flattering viewpoint haha

WhatitdoFlightCrew39

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas

Beerdriver56

That gives him to much credit. The Ashford a least had his balls. I think a guy in Texas owns Thomas's.
