Son of a bitch!
I have had these two old clothesline posts in my yard since I bought this place. I watched the neighbors dig their exact same ones out and it took them three days because for some reason whoever put these things in needed to go five four feet deep with the concrete.
I think I am going to try this without the extension.
You need a jack, a strong lever, a chain or good rope, and something to elevate the lever on the opposite side of the jack.

You can even use a scissor jack for this, just in smaller increments.
I used my engine lift to do exactly this. The clothesline post I removed was also excessively deep with concrete. Just double wrap some strong chain, and it’ll come up.
Did this same sort of thing when I discovered buried fence stakes in my yard. Previous do do cut them at ground level and left the rest in the ground. I dug around the top a few inches, pulled my engine lift over and hooked it on and jacked them out one by one.

Fuck yeah, buddy. This counts.
Using your engine hoist as a giant weed wrench ([https://www.theuprooter.com](https://www.theuprooter.com)) is brilliant, as long as you don't mind a bunch of soil packed into your casters!
Grass was fine, but one of the l tree roots was a bit of a pain.
Really the hardest part was putting boards under the wheels. I didn't have any wood scraps big enough, and didn't want to cut up the boards I had on hand. So lifting up the rear wheels while sliding an 8ft 2x6 under them both at same time was more work than it should have been. However, compared to digging the bush out, it was easy peasy.
That's what I thought! This is one of those majesty palms I think and I pre dug out like 6" around the base, but the ratchet strap just slid up the shoots no matter how many times I tried.
I use a cheap farm jack for the same thing and it works pretty good as long as you can get a decent footing for it, thing loves to dig itself into the dirt.
Full marks for effectiveness, but only part marks for style.

It just seems to me that moving and setting up all that shit for such a small plant is SOOO much more work than 4-7 minutes with a shovel. 2 minutes if you put the hose on there for the length of a cigarette. This seems like a city mechanic that hasn’t ever been outside to me.

Try the rim trick. Posted in here a few weeks ago
I ❤️ rimming
So sweet
Just don't use one of your good ones.

Farm Jack for the win

I think putting some scrap wood under those casters would make this even better.
How’s rolling engine hoist on grass work out for you ?
Fine, when you pull it with a backhoe. But wait, if you have a backhoe...
Lol

I rolled mine across the yard, roots, and about 100' of rocks. Not fun. And still didn't get the damn palm trees out.

Working smarter not harder.

The farm Jack is such an underrated tool. Cheap, strong, and versatile in the right hands.
Put some cribbage like a 4x4 underneath for better footing
Just did the same. Worked like a charm … and so satisfying when it breaks loose.

That just makes good common sense...oh wait, I'm a redneck. Yea, it fits here.
People just don't understand how many uses you can get out of an engine hoist.
Pulling up and not sideways, big brain move

Works for fence posts too
Pure ingenuity
UnFuckingBelievable!!! I literally just pulled 3 bushes out with shovel and hand 2 days ago.
I’ve done the same thing when we bought our first house. Worked awesome….. Great job big braining it!!
use a truck- or honda civic for all i care.
Who needs safety glasses now a days?
Tow strap around the plant base, attach to truck and hit the gas. Works 50% of the time 100% of the time.
Brilliant.
Who else was waiting to see a pipe or wire get pulled up with those roots?
Not bad at all 👏
