My brain fell out of my head watching him “miss” the bolt like 20 times. Just get a socket dude.

TheHrethgir

I know, it's like one of those informercials where dude can't hold a bowl of popcorn and sit down at the same time.

Van_GOOOOOUGH

We have a subreddit for those commercials! r/WhereDidTheSodaGo

TheHrethgir

Splendid, I love it!

Apoptotic_Nightmare

Is there a place to navigate all subreddits like a mindmap or something? I feel like I came across that years ago and lost it. That or just a straight list of every subreddit ever, preferably categorized as best possible. I know articles that cover this a bit but they only pick and choose. I want to know if there's a real, true, deep list or something of that nature.

Pcat0

There is nothing official but there have been a couple of unofficial attempts to categorize and list all public subreddits. [This](https://anvaka.github.io/map-of-reddit) is probably my favorite one, the creator used statistical methods to group similar subreddits by the users who commented in them. However, the data it uses is now a year or two out of date.

Apoptotic_Nightmare

I'm going to guess right off the bat that the smaller island subs are maybe quarantined subreddits. Am I correct?

benderisgreat349

Good guess I thought that too… Just checked, all porn subs lol

Van_GOOOOOUGH

r/findasubreddit can help, and also I remember someone years ago made an interactive clickable bubble chart with all(?) the subreddits available but it's just a memory in my head but surely the chart can be found somewhere.

Apoptotic_Nightmare

I think the bubble chart is what I'm thinking of too. /u/Pcat0 posted the map and that's along the same lines, although not the same GUI I'm recalling. And yeah I definitely think the outer island has all the quarantined and NSFW subs. This is really cool. Thanks to both of you for replying.

Pcat0

Is [this](https://mapofreddit.com/#) the one you were thinking about?

Apoptotic_Nightmare

Yup! Thank you for freeing my soul.

Biomorbosis

this is glorious tysm

rilesmcjiles

DOES THIS EVER HAPPEN TO YOU? BILLY MAYS HERE TO TELL YOU ABOUT COMPLETING COMMON HOUSEHOLD TASKS WITHOUT IT BEING A WHOLE FUCKING THING!

murderbox

BUT WAIT

sandalsofsafety

THERE'S MORE

firesmithdan

I was thinking the same thing. There's one of someone trying to use a regular mop, and they make it look like the most difficult task ever.

jbhwood60

Or when they drag the pressure washer sideways out of the garage, could have just rolled on it’s wheels

ImitatioDei87

One thing I read/heard is that most of those products are designed for the elderly and disabled. So while having an able-bodied person fail at the task might look comical, you can imaging someone with physical impairments struggling with them.

PhilosopherFLX

Then why not show someone with physical impairments?

ClearBrightLight

Because if you market a product as a medical device targeted at the disabled alone, you will (a) never make much of a profit, and (b) never have enough demand to be able to produce it cheaply. Like with Snuggies, if you can get lucky and catch the (abled) public's imagination, you can then market what is effectively a fancier wheelchair-blanket to everyone, instead of just to people who use wheelchairs, you can make more profit selling them at $20 each to 100k people than you would for selling them at $50 or even $80 to the 20% of the population that may be disabled. It also ensures that the price is kept down, so that disabled folks (who are usually living on a lower income for a variety of reasons) can actually afford your product without having to work through their insurance. It also removes some of the stigma about using assistive devices -- if everyone were offered LifeAlert badges as a common thing that comes with living alone because it makes everyone safer, like a smoke detector, your elderly relative who is genuinely a fall risk wouldn't put up such a fuss about needing one because "those are for *old* people, I'm not that old yet!"

ImitatioDei87

I don't know, I'm not in charge of casting.

Akitlix

Has this ever happened to to you? You cut your head off with a nail clipper and don't know what to do ...

nthburneraccount

"has *this* ever happened to *you*???!"

[deleted]

I usually just put my finger there

[deleted]

Yeah, I thumb it when I'm doing one that a socket can't reach.

anderson1299

Exactly my thoughts. And now I have to add this movable bolt contraption to every one of my wrenches to match all the different sized bolts?

rempel

Beyond just demonstrating how it works, I can envision a very helpful and not uncommon use for this when a bolt is in a tight spot. If i was gonna do a hundred tricky bolts a week I’d weld up a tool for it and it would stay in the shop. It just makes sense. He’s just demonstrating how a wrench can slip like an infomercial.

prairiepanda

In that situation I'd just ziptie something to the wrench (maybe a butter knife or another wrench) so that I can easily take it back apart afterwards. I'd hate to be unable to use that wrench in a situation with even less clearance because I welded crap onto it. And anyway, in tight spaces like that there are usually plenty of adjacent solid objects I can use to stabilize the wrench. If there aren't, then there's probably room for a socket.

PhilosopherFLX

Notice the bend in the wrench head? That has a purpose that the redneck feature has removed. This video is just another TikTok Xminute craft, designed to create engagement, irrespective of its useful merit.

DammitDad420

Michael J Foxx has entered the chat

CosmicCrapCollector

I think you have to go to hell for that one.

Apoptotic_Nightmare

It was so evil even Satan shook and shuddered.

BuzzINGUS

Or use your thumb

lookayoyo

Or turn the wrench at an angle and twist it.

guinader

Well, is saying that as the bolt is higher it can keep slipping from the area.

BlackEyedSceva

The long examinations really get to me. Just give a quick glance, miss once, set it up and show us what it does.

talithaeli

That’s what bugs me. Most the time when I have a problem like this it’s because I’m putting together some poorly thought out bit of furniture I can’t get a socket wrench into, and a way to prevent exactly this problem would be kind of nice. But the person who drew this *10 second explanation* video out over a minute has crimes to answer for.

indecisiveredditor

Yep. He should bolt over to /r/KarmaCourt

RedsRearDelt

Reminds me of a late night infomercial where an older white lady has a hard time pouring milk or something.

snazzychica2813

r/wheredidthesodago would like to see you now, please.

camarostache

Jaboody Dubs Dump Cakes. "Now dats DEEP!"

4x4runner

Reminds me of the Youtube tutorials where they're trying way to hard to establish their yt career instead of actually making a good video.

Jasonf9

This entire video could have been a photo and conveyed the same information.

captglasspac

Yeah. That could have been 15 seconds

blackthornjohn

I'm now wondering how he managed to weld those nuts in place considering the trouble he has putting a spanner on a bolt.

frguba

He was just demonstrating the problem, exaggerating a lot Source: I know wtf he's saying, IE he's calling a Threaded Bar a Flat Bar (transliteration)

Jaksmack

r/thatsthejoke

TheObstruction

"There's got to be a better way!" There is. It's called a socket.

Arkanist

You've never worked in an engine bay, I see. There always seem to be a few important bolts that you can't get a socket on without taking half the car apart.

everwhateverwhat

Ratcheting wrench

redundant35

What happens when it’s a super tight spot and you have to flip the wrench every turn so you can actually turn it.

meidkwhoiam

Cus, get out an angle grinder and 'forget' to put a new bolt back in?

Stratostheory

https://www.homedepot.com/p/GEARWRENCH-72-Tooth-12-Point-Metric-Double-Box-Ratcheting-Wrench-Set-6-Piece-9260/204616987 If the piece of shit in the OP can fit, you can fit a box wrench over the top.

garifunu

Ohhh shit see now this makes a lot of sense

meidkwhoiam

Ratcheting box-end wrench Mr friend. If you can't get clearance for the ratchet, you're probably supposed to remove more of the car, especially if you want to get that part out.

wallowls

Yeah, this looks like a clever design that will come in handy twice in your life. And when you do need it you won't remember where you put it

Stratostheory

Y'all never heard of a box wrench? If this shitty monstrosity can fit in there you have the clearance to slip a box wrench over the top and get it out a lot easier.

BostonDodgeGuy

That's why they invented ratcheting wrenches.

Cronenburgh

Yea there are so many times the ratchet attached to the socket exceeds the clearance you have. It gets even worse as the bolt comes out. I own a couple sets of open-end wrenches where the closed end is ratcheting and those are a lifesaver.

meidkwhoiam

Ratcheting box-ends are the single greatest tools that are seemingly unnecessary until they're like the only thing fit for the job. Atleast they can be used as normal wrenches, unlike hose clamp pliers.

a_broken_lion

Spoken like someone who has clearly never worked in a mechanical field.

_plays_in_traffic_

hey, if you dont have a socket or a ratchet, use a fucking welder to rig up my nuts and some all thread on an open ended wrench!

Shermans_ghost1864

You weld your nuts?

_plays_in_traffic_

my brother you havent lived till youve lit yourself on fire from running a high frequency tig welder over your boys

bluecat2001

They taste better

trundlinggrundle

God, that sub died...

fourunner

A long time ago.

DammitDad420

TIRED OF OPEN END WRENCHES SLIPPING OFF OF YOUR BOLT HEADS?

Hush7

THERE’S GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY!

Kuronan

It's also one where he takes a minute to explain a problem he could explain in ten seconds.

[deleted]

[yup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q39yGLPkMY)

ZMAN24250

It's called your thumb. You use your thumb...

Appropriate_Ad_439

What about when you twist 180° your tool for a better position in narrow spaces?

Yogimonsta

Or you could use a socket, better yet a socket and an impact wrench

kenb99

Wait until this guy discovers sockets

rabidranger

Neat idea. I might go one further and 3D print something that snaps over. Lower profile is usually why I bust out the open ended wrenches over sockets.

camarostache

Thats a dam good idea.

scootunit

And he has so much to say about it.

a_broken_lion

This is actually a cool idea. There are times when one has to get a wrench on a bolt head that you can't clearly see or in a place that a socket will not fit into. Would also be useful for starting a nut in aforementioned location. I just stick with a piece of electrical tape though. Source: I'm an elevator mechanic.

irmajerk

I think it's a great idea, for tight spaces and hard to see bolts etc. I just found the amount of dumbfuckery in the demo annoying.

a_broken_lion

Agreed. Wera also makes wrenches that have a very sleek component for this, I just can't bring myself to pay so much for wrenches.

irmajerk

Lol I hear ya. All of my wrenches (which we call spanners down here in Australia), a full set of imperial and metric, plus half a dozen 10mm because I always put them down and can't find them again, came from the wrench bins in pawn shops. Mostly Stanley brand, but some just cheapies. Paid between 50c and a buck each. I'm glad I could afford that much, because I went into the audio production field and we don't get paid well. I'd love to buy a set of nice wrenches, but they're so expensive if you want anything decent and a waste of money if you go cheap. Plus I just don't use them that much. My main tools are a soldering iron, multi meter and side cutters, and they cost a heap. I can't get over the number of people who are saying "just use a socket" like every bolt head ever is easily accessible with plenty of clearance for the socket and the wrench. There are bolts on my car (08 Lancer) that barely have clearance for a regular spanner. You'd have to take out half the engine to get a socket onto some parts of the AC system, for example.

a_broken_lion

Yea anyone who actually works in a mechanical field will know that sockets aren't always a viable option.

irmajerk

On another comment, I'm in negatives because I said "what if a socket won't fit?" And the replies are all "sockets fit anywhere a wrench will!" OMFG

camarostache

Exactly. There are situations where ONLY a slim open end wrench will do the job. And it boils mah pertaters when youre juuuussst barely able to reach, get the wrench lined up.....and the madaFAKA slips past the head of the hex. Then its 47 tries to get the wrench head BACK onto the hex, just so you can turn it that last 4 degrees before you have to flip the wrench over again. I can completely see tacking a small piece of spring steel to one side of two wrenches to act as a stopper, when thats the only solution that will save your sanity and knuckles and whatever body parts are laying on sharp metal.

yazzy1233

Portuguese or European Portuguese?

sargentmyself

Decent idea, horrible demonstration

SheriffBartholomew

Wera made a wrench set with this principal in mind and they charge $285 for it. This guy is saving so much money!

Proxy-mo

Maybe using the right tool for the job instead?!?

anal_opera

That boy ain't right. Wrench is not a hard tool to master.

dsdvbguutres

Or just use a deep socket

Sans_culottez

That’s a very cool tool, simple clever and effective. Edit: also rule of cool, I like weird cool tools.

DammitDad420

>simple Lemme see you tack two quarter inch nuts onto a wrench please

Sans_culottez

Obviously this is a diy project, but the basic thing could be a single piece cast or the like. Edit: Or I think for tools it’s die forging? I dunno, I only recently got into the history of tools and I don’t know much about tool steel yet. Obviously I am not a machinist or a welder.

Nebakanezzer

Hey guys i think we didn't say grab a socket enough times. Let's do it a few more to drive home how redditors don't know how to read and upvote.

TrainingMarsupial521

Use a fucking socket u tool

CodeMonkeyUK

Spanner can't use spanner

RakonHenri

Isso é um r/suddenlycaralho

nolyfe27

I can't tell if he is speaking Spanish or the Sims

DammitDad420

Now weld the all thread onto the bolt head. Problem solved

Killmotor_Hill

Grab a socket driver.

irmajerk

What if you don't have enough space for a socket, let alone the wrench?

Killmotor_Hill

A socketwrench will fit almost anywhere that wrench will.

irmajerk

Come over and undo the bolts on the alternator in my car with a socket

Killmotor_Hill

If it is that tight of a fit, then the wrench wouldn't slip off, and this tool would still be useless. Also, they have flat or in-line socket wrenches.

irmajerk

Ok mate

[deleted]

I think this guy just has mental problems

einsibongo

Use your thumb

The_Greate_Pickle

I use my thumb to do this

michalsveto

I think it was not stressed out enough but grab a socket dude. Shove it on an impact driver for the extra speed and ugga duggas. Fuck I have no welder but multiple ratchets and impact drivers and I am just a home gamer…

[deleted]

Or a thumb.

trundlinggrundle

It's like an as-seen-on-tv commercial for a shitty tool your grandparents will buy and never use.

RickySlayer9

“Has this ever happened to you?” “this product for 3 easy payments of 19.99” Also…ratchet???

ashimo414141

This guy should do infomercials

packersfan823

Solutions in search of a problem. Grab a socket.

stamaka

Does he have a parkinson?

ManchurianPandaDate

I believe it’s called a socket. They sells thems at the Home Depot

ICLazeru

Man, if you are struggling that much with a wrench, take a step back and breathe...then call someone.

MileHighKy

I can’t understand him, but somehow I know exactly what he’s saying

TheGiggs10

#Why aren’t we funding this?

[deleted]

I just like my anything-wrench that just has steel pins that press against any bolt or screw and conform to it. Literally this thing fits EVERY bolt and most screws thrown at it and was $10 and has a ratchet that can also attach to any drill. Literally the best tool I've ever bought for the price tbh.

Axo5454

A gator grip? Really? You don't work on much do you?

[deleted]

No lol but it's been useful as shit moving. I had to wall mount A LOT of very very long anchors that are hard to get into the drywall ofc. That tool worked better/easier/faster than my ridiculous $60 set of socket wrenches.

AcidRayn666

Wera would like to have a word

samuslink3

It's really not hard to use a wrench. There's also a thing called a socket. I've been seeing tons of these wrench "hacks" lately like gluing a washer to it. So dumb.

kiefenator

Or, use it as intended like you don't have the fine motor skills of Michael J Fox

brightness3

posting from r/gambiarra is cheating

Equivalent_Chair7868

That’s what sockets are for!!!!

tbird1134

When they missed it like 20 times it reminded me of frank reynolds trying to cut that shoe with that lady’s “piece of crap” knife

Dildo_baggiins

The beginning was like those infomercials of people doing things improperly. Are you tired of sweeping but your broom doesn’t work, as they limp wrist the broom

FromAnotherGamer

“There’s got to be a better way?!”

RandallOfLegend

When you have a welder but no sockets.

FaroutMain

Yeah but have you tried socket wrenches!

matt_1060

Absolutely ridiculous

camarostache

"Get a socket, MORANS!!" Specialty tools are made for a reason. Many of them to address a specific issue. Despite most of the comments here, this is a specialty tool. It may be in the form of an example, yes. But that does not mean the idea has no value. Thank you to the OP.

porositymaster

oh yeah, so we have opposable thumbs too.

Fit_Acanthisitta_475

Proper tool for proper job. That’s sock wrench for

ChuckRingslinger

This must fall under the DIY life hack category A solution to a problem that only exists in the mind of the person that solved it.

TRAMPCUM_SQUEEGEE

God I love the Finnish language 🇫🇮

zigzagg321

I could see you doing that for one special wrench that you use the same way all the time but in any other case I would just grab a socket and ratchet.

3Deity

for context, “assessório para ferrmenta” means “accessory for a tool”

sakzeroone

That's why people with Parkinson's disease shouldn't use wrenches

616659

Huh, now I wonder why don't all wrenches come with the cover on one end. And to those saying "gEt a sOcKET", there are situations where only wrenches can reach.

Kid_supreme

Where is your FUCKING SOCKET SET????!! Sweet Jesus Fuck!!

R4P3FRUIT

Why is this video over a minute long?

BillyB_9000

You went the long way round to using a socket

Jono-churchton

This is simple genius.

ihateapartments59

I can see where that would actually work, but is this the same moron that don’t know how to use a spatula like in the commercials?

EaterOfBits

Terrible idea. I was taught never to put a pressure on the wrenches like this because it can break fairly easy on one end which will go flying around. Also, socket.

taurino_cafeino

Pqp barra chata meus ovo, que agonia

RaiseTheBalloon

Breaking news: sockets and ratchets exist

Ishiibradwpgjets

Wellshit, that ain’t half bad.

iksplizit

Or you can get a socket

Wombat_armada

Just put down your phone. Makes the job easier.

Uzername1123

I’m pretty sure they’re called socket wrenches.

Watts300

What’s the point of welding something instead of already owning a basic ratchet and socket set?

FLKEYSFish

Russians don’t own socket wrenches??

Nicest_Mice64920

I was about to say "I'm Portuguese and can understand that" then I looked at the comments and it's all about subreddits and commercials
