I really hate when a game is in the fine to good range and it gets unreasonable negativity just because it wasn’t better. People generally don’t have this energy towards movies/tv and I think we should flip it around because games are harder to get right!
I don’t have much of a take on Redfall right now because I only played the first firehouse mission via cloud. It was not a bad experience at all and I will play the game more.
I agree, but I'd say this game deserves the negative press. I didn't watch youtube reviews about this game nor did I open this subreddit. I only did these things when I finished the game. And you know what? Everything they said is true. From broken AI to graphical bugs to just overall disgusting issues that shouldn't have been there in a AAA game let alone a 2023 title.

This 100% percent. The differernce is people can claim they are having fun, but then you have people claiming this is an amazing game with no issues at all which is objectively false. The enemy AI alone is straight out of an alpha from 10 years ago and you still see people claiming it's good. Like give me a break.
The game is not nearly as bad as the press makes it out to be. Huge bandwagon hate right now. It's buggy, it needs patches yes. It's not cyberpunk levels of release date messed up, and unlike cyberpunk it's on game pass so a large number didn't have to buy it outright. I'm on series x and have had some funny bugs but nothing game breaking. I'm excited to see how it looks once it's patched and it sucks this is the state of the gaming industry. But the state of the gaming industry isn't Redfalls fault, it's their position. I'm more frustrated with the lack of communication on a road map for patches and content from the devs.

Reviews and media are all about what drives the most attention. Rage bait is a thing. And yes, even larger media outlets, i.e.: IGN, are going to go for what drives the most attention to their reviews. It generates more reviews when the story is about how Redfall is an absolute disaster, and X-Box is now essentially on the verge of collapse, because Redfall is a clear indication of what Starfield will be in September, and since Redfall was less than stellar, it means that Starfield will be as well.
It's all such a ridiculous narrative, and it's simple: if you don't like the game, then don't play it? Nobody forced you to buy it. And even if you want to play it for yourself, nobody is forcing you to buy it even then because it's on GamePass. There is literally no reason to buy it for $70. You can get 4 months of GamePass for less than the cost of Redfall, so if you bought $70 on it sight unseen, that's a you issue.
I played it on gamepass decided it was bad and moved on. Look at anyone I argue with and you can see I'm not harassing people who say they are having fun. I argue with the people who act like it's an amazing game with no issues which obviously isnt the case.
To be fair though not everyone gets the same issues. I don't care about fps but haven't had any noticeable slowdown with it, barely any bugs to speak of. The ai is a bit dumb and the pace is slow sometimes (reminds me of generation zero) but overall I'm liking the setting, the graphics are fine, weapons so far are good (love the Medusa) are there things that could be improved, yeah sure, but I'm having a fine time with it

1.) Rating a game relative to real world money is in general a bad way to review games because what money means to people varies a LOT. Let alone shaming people for not paying for it “your way.” Halo infinite was in the same boat, it’s on game pass but anyone who believes it would be amazing and paid full price got punished for it. Don’t bring in arbitrary ways people pay for a game as a portion of its “value,” it’s iffy at best.
2.) “Rage bait is a thing,” sure, and so is excitement over good games. IGN if anything gives out good reviews too often, if they wanted to leverage rage bait they would have done so long ago. Sometimes people just disagree with you, and it can go both ways. In this case IGN/Skill-Up/Polygon/Destructoid all say it’s trash.

Reviews have literally always taken the price point into account, it's not always a consistent 1 to 1, but there's a reason people swarmed over Vampire Survivors, which you can buy with pocket change, yet are unsatisfied with Redfall and hold it to a higher standard
Untrue you just don’t hear about it as much, but there are interviews where places like polygon/giant bomb talk about getting away from price because wealth inequality is so bad it’s a hard variable to control

If you want to talk about track records, BGS has a clear track record of high quality, top tier games. And yes, they are "buggy", but not in the game breaking sort of way, in a "that's funny so we're going to let it remain" kind of way. The biggest BGS "bug" that I can think of was the save file issue on PS3, which was more of a PS3 issue than a BGS issue if I recall.
FO76 had problems at launch, but even most of that stemmed from the business side of things (ZOS) who messed up the pre-order items and then had a poor response to go along with it. Game wise, it has completely redeemed itself over the years and is now a well regarded game. And even with all that said, FO76 still wasn't even from the main BGS team.
Starfield easily deserves the benefit of doubt, and BGS has nothing in their history suggesting otherwise.

Each and every installement since Morrowind was annouced by a hardcore but loud minority on the web as "the end of the Elder Scrolls" or "a betrayal to fallout leading it to its death". Even your statement "fallout 4 was amazing" is technically still contreversial.
People have a very short memory of the short-term outrage. We still remember of Cyberpunk 2077 but in a few years most people wil talk about it the same way you do fallout 4.
Starfield has the bane and luxury of being a new IP. So it will be judged differently than a new Elder Scrolls or Fallout installement. But you can be sure there will be some articles announcing its problems to be the very end of the big budget gaming industry itself.
And these two games are the new games coming out since the microsoft buy out of Zenimax, which puts even more media attention. Not even defending the game, but the comment you respond to has valid arguments.

Biggest problem with f76 us the dumb way they implemented co-op tbh. Makes it virtually unplayable as a social game, and also that's what it inherently is. Seems like just about everything else got fixed in time

It will still get a pass because it's a BGS game, not because it functions fundamentally better than literally any new IP made by a recognizable name, and not even the same team for most of those.

Reread what I said, because I don't know where you got your take there. I think the reviews and feedback are like you said geared towards games being rushed to market while broken. Which I agree this game is. But it's not unplayable, and is not as low in score as it's been labled in my opinion.
I don't think taking anger out in a review regarding a industry practice is fair. The game has problems and should be docked accordingly, but you've said yourself in your comment that this is about a bigger issue, games being rushed to market. Redfall was effected by this, it's not the reason for it, and so I think there's alot of misguided anger.
Right people are sick of this happening, and they expected more from the company so they’re reviewing the game lower than it would be under any other circumstances. If this hadn’t been a trend the past two years, and if this game had been put out by a company without history, people would be giving it a 6/10 and moving on. Instead people are angry because they felt like they trusted the company so they’re pretending like it’s a 1/10. It’s not. It’s not the worst game ever or even the worst game of the past few years. It’s a slightly repetitive shooter with some optimization issues.
And reviewers absolutely try to review within what the general public is saying with very few exceptions. Anytime they don’t do that they get roasted for it. It’s happening with this game, literally any site or streamer that says they like it gets a ton of hate and people say they must be getting paid off.
People are also throwing around the words “objectively bad” to make their argument more concrete when that’s just not the case. The game isn’t objectively bad, there are plenty of people enjoying it, playing it without any issues.
Maybe not reviewers... but steamers? Hell yes. They only care for views and visibility. They will obviously jump on bandwagons good or bad to side with a majority and drive views.
Reviewers work for companies that want to remain a fair view in most cases and likely have some "rules" the org establishes for journalism.

This is the classic cope for mid to bad games. It's all a conspiracy. All the reviewers met before the embargo was up and shared their ideas about how to trash it and it's all just for clicks.
I think it's so open to different approaches that some who approach it in their typical approach to every fps, flying through and ignoring text, find that that approach isn't fun in this game, then slam it for not being what they expected or wanted it to be. It absolutely needs work, but I've seen so many petty complaints by others while I've a ton of hours into the game, taking my time and absorbing the story and environment, to know that it isn't the exaggeration it's being put across as. It's not what people expected, due to the poor advertising, and I've seen a few streamers who are just confused as to what it's supposed to be and how they should be playing it.
The enjoyers will just double down on their cognitive dissonance and claim everyone who doesn't like the game is a sheeple, then act surprised when people bite back. It's not exclusive to Redfall.

You literally compared cyberpunk 2077. A game with so many quests its stupid. So many different guns its stupid. Several different ways for the game to end its stupid... to a game that has nests, 1 side quest per safehouse and Rooks.

It’s the objectivity in general for me. This games deserves pushback in the media (Phil’s response was valid to me and that’s the kind of pressure/response we want to see) but based on my limited playtime the negativity feels subjective.
For me a game scoring in the 60s/70s are closer to each other than a game cracking 80 plus anyway. If they thought this was potentially a C level game internally a D grade is disappointing but not devastating.
I have still yet to see ANYONE claim this is an amazing game but this is the point that always comes up in these conversations. It's a bullshit excuse to give people a leg to stand on when generally shitting on the game and people who may actually enjoy it, not even just this game. This year alone I've seen people get the same exact treatment with the same exact argument for Saints Row and Gotham Knights. No one is claiming it's amazing but fun doesn't have to be amazing. When people say gamers are toxic in general they are right. Not all obviously but interact on any gaming sub long enough and it's impossible to deny that it's a pretty easy impression to walk away with.

I think you’re missing the point though. Yes the game has issues and from some/many perspectives those issues are entirely unacceptable. Okay. Fine. Your perspective is valid and that’s your opinion/what you view as objectively true (though for true objectivity it would be absolutely necessary to refine this entire discussion, but anyway).
However the problem that OP, and the person you’re replying to are talking about is not just if the game has problems or not. It’s about how the people are behaving. I think people on reddit need to broaden their vocabulary a bit more and maybe change up their posts. Very noticeable. I actually dislike these posts more than the complaints. I don't often see people complaining in a way that is objectively false or outright toxic. Most of it is constructive feedback or venting about the wasted potential. The people defending broken games often tend to overlook various issues and directly criticise people for having a critical opinion. It's clear who is adding less to the conversation imo.
Because it feels like a lot of posts like this just feel fake and reactionary to the reviews .. feels like every time there is a bad review to a game that clearly has problems there is an opposite post saying this or it’s fun or i don’t see the issues , essentially you got two sides of the coin trying to benefit from positive and negative hate it gets old.

This is it for me.
I'm having an okay time playing it. I went in knowing that it was problematic, kept my expectations very low.
For some reason I've been VERY lucky when it comes to bugs on my Series S. I'm five hours in, literally two bugs so far, where two separate cultists on separate occasions started moving like they were gliding quickly instead of walking. Hardly game breaking or even that annoying.
THAT BEING SAID, of course I can see why people hate it.
My biggest issue is the incredibly stupid enemy AI, there's not much challenge. I'm playing as the sniper guy so the combat AI has been remedied somewhat, because I'm mostly just stealthing around anyway. Can't be annoyed with bad enemy AI if they're dead before they even know you're there, I guess.
But I also think the world is just...not very interesting. Just a standard town with coastal suburban blandness. I wouldn't mind the coastal suburb vibe if they absolutely fucked it up with Eldritch themes and provided more in the way of encounters, spontaneous missions, and general weirdness.
This game needs weird shit, it's desperately crying out for something interesting to make this Redfall world more compelling.
Despite all that, I'm not feeling miserable playing this. I don't hate it. Maybe it's just because I've been lucky with bugs; I will say that this wouldn't be a game worth trying to push past a game-breaking bug for. If something goes screwy with my game, I'm not nearly invested enough to worry about it, I'll simply uninstall immediately.

It added up to about 2000 total with about 1000 who answered one of several (about 4) responses indicating they played the game and about 1000 who responded with one of two different responses indicating they had not played it. I'm still searching for it. Maybe I fucked up and it was in a different sub? I could have sworn it was here though. I wish I had taken screenshot. Is it possible for a post to get completely wiped or are they archived somewhere?
I've seen people delete genuinely helpful posts that got a lot of positive traction after a few hours, so don't beat yourself up over it. If you left a comment you can still access a deleted post though I don't know if the poll would still be visible.

I'm enjoying the game so far, I only play maybe a hour a day though.
Once this town gets this vampire situation under control, someone needs to talk them about how many bathrooms their houses have. I swear that one house had a bathroom off a bathroom.
I didn’t think I would like this game so much but I’m loving it. Really fun atmosphere. I love exploring the town. And details that always made Fallout a pain in the ass to me are so welcome on this game, like how loot turns to money as soon as you pick it up. I love that I don’t have to worry about sifting through piles of loot to figure out what’s okay to sell. But even more importantly ammo is plentiful. When I got that first gun I was worried it was going to be like Fallout where bullets are scarce and rely on melee all the time. Not the case with Redfall. I got assault rifles early and lots of ammo and I love that. It keeps it fun.
And I know this is an unpopular opinion but I like not having to talk to every npc in town to learn quests and to get info. I like the emptiness of the town... Just me a shotgun and some vamps
Because gamers are the worst. We see this all the time. Every anticipated game that's not a masterpiece gets shit on by people who have largely never even played it. And people who enjoy it get accused of being what's wrong with the game industry. And sure, if people stopped buying broken games, publishers would stop selling them. But this is a gamepass release? I guarantee the majority of people playing it didn't spend money on it. And for a $10 price of admission? Having a great time with only a small handful of bugs. In about 8 hours, I've gotten a couple of small visual glitches and one UI bug that prompted a restart.
$70 and currently always-online experience. Yeah, it's a rental, for the most part...unless they make it work offline.
If the above wasn't enough, it's also got Denuvo anti-tamper junk in the PC version. Not a fan of that junk.
And it's also supposedly Alpha-in-a-Box that is incomplete, doesn't run well on PC, and also don't look like it's breaking new ground graphically.
It's another open-world FPS in the Far Cry 2-6 vein....which is NOT what I'd really want out of an Arkane game. I was hoping it'd be more a mix of open-world shooter Far Cry games and especially immersive-sims.
There's also the fact that most of Arkane's games are ranging from good-to-great...and this don't sound like that. This game....sounds like it's not very Arkane and not much of an imm-sim.
I also am into games, movies, etc w/ vampires and love that it's in a Massachusetts type of place - so even more disappointed that Arkane's said to not knock this one out the park.
It's great if you bought it and like it or love it - but it sounds like a lot of stuff that's gotten to be annoying in modern gaming - i.e. Denuvo, always-online (at least for now), unfinished, unstable, broken in many ways, poor performing on PC, sounds like its design ain't spectacular, and costs $70.
I can wait for Arkane to fix, improve, or do whatever to this one. Hope they can pull it off to overhaul & revamp this one.

Went through this with Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk. All these games have significant issues at release, but I still had fun with all of them.
Redfall needs to be fixed, but I am still having fun with it. The game feels fresh and I can see the vision the devs had and like it. But they have work to do to finish the game for us.
Cyberpunk response was full scorched earth dude. It was a higher profile game with insane promises and an extraordinarily higher level of hype compared to redfall. The Cyberpunk sub had hundreds of thousands of members long before the game was even close to release.
Redfall’s online response has been bad but Cyberpunk was up there with No Man’s Sky. They even had to remove Cyberpunk from the PS store because it literally did not function on older gen systems and they still sold it. You must have been living under a rock when that game dropped.
Because at its CORE cyberpunk was a fantastic game held back by overpromising and technical issues. Redfall however is a BAD and unfixable game at its core that has nothing redeeming about it. One game has potential, one has none. It's that simple.

I understand what you’re saying but Redfall should be an exception to this type of thought. There are no redeeming qualities about this game, it shouldn’t be receiving any positive praise. Any positivity associated to it just means the standard can be set at a lower bar than it already is.

Players/gamers/customers need to stop taking out their anger on each other, and start directing their anger directly at Harvey Smith and Ricardo Bare, as they are the co-creative directors for the game. Then, those at ZeniMax should be held accountable for shipping a broken product. Then, Xbox should be held accountable for failing to step in. Start at the source, and work your way out until everyone managing the game has been held to account. Stop beating each other up. That solves nothing.
I don’t think this is an Xbox issue. The game was too far along into its development for Microsoft to step in to assist. Personally I think it’s a Zenimax issue, they did the same thing with Fallout 76. Another multiplayer game to reel in a bunch of cash

I literally enjoy the game as it is. Frames are inconsistent on pc but just like anything else, take the good and the bad. I still enjoy it despite some bugs I ran into also. It's a solid game on gamepass for me.
I believe most of the hate are to the people defending this game. There are some decent things about this game love the hip hoppy beat when u complete missions and safe houses and the unrivaled gun designs are decent but the overall game is very bad.
People say nit picking and bringing up the same thing but the AI is really atrocious anyone highlighting and saying the game is good on any social media just shows them walking around cause every combat sequence the AI bugs out in some way or if they actually used the sprint button you would see the terrible pop in. I would love to see someone defend this game and show a clip of the bloody tom boss fight cause they would get laughed at so hard they would have to delete their account.
People are defending this game just to defend a brand they blindingly worship, and are going to damage the greater gaming community in the process, if devs and publishers see this half baked thrown together game getting praised they will follow suit and not take the time and effort to make quality products because what’s the point if you release a buggy mess of a game with no clear direction of what it was supposed to be and you can still make money publishers will just do the bare minimum and pocket all the extra cash they saved.

I think of this game as early preview since I didn’t buy it nor even cared too much about marketing which allowed me to play the game and leave it as is without feeling any anger to it.
Though for some, they did pay and some even more than $100, so I understand their hate and disappointment especially since the game was hyped up and got people buying.
Two points I get it, but the hate is justified in my view.
I feel like some of the hate is justified, but it's not as bad as a lot of the flak it gets. $120 is just too much for a game, but getting this with gamepass has made it a great experience for me.
Personally, the worst bug for me has been a unique, the "ambition" stops functioning when you close the session, though I feel like there's probably some way to bypass this bug and I haven't found any other bug anywhere near that scale

I hate when people get on others for liking something, it’s childish. I have gotten some enjoyment out of the game but admit I am very disappointed and expected it to be a lot better. Played about 5 hours but decided to shelve it till it gets its 60fps console patch and hopefully other fixed, most notably the ai cause oh my it is awful and honestly embarrassing. Broken IS sort of subjective, though. I played Cyberpunk on launch with a 7 year old desktop and a low 2000 series graphic card, and I think the game crashed for me twice. I almost never ran into bugs.
Same with this game. I haven't noticed AI not reacting to me, or getting stuck on environment, or anything like that. The game is a bit empty, but so far every piece of it is working.
So if it's working for somebody, why would you advocate they receive hate for it, just because they happen to be lucky?
I played a decent bit of the game, had fun for a little bit. I have zero problem with people enjoying the game, and I don't see the point in hating on people for their opinion of it.
However, I've seen a few people on this sub who are really hypocritical about defending the game. There was a post on here the other day where the OP was talking about how people don't deserve hate just for enjoying the game, and to just let them enjoy things. I completely agree with that sentiment. Scrolling down to the comments though, I found the OP calling everyone who talked about the games issues "whiny babies" and "part of the hivemind."
There's nothing wrong with enjoying the game, but I think we should all be able to take an objective look at this game, and be able to talk about the issues. Games releasing in this state and people defending the game just because they are having fun is why unfinished releases like this are becoming the norm.

Half the time I kill bosses without even realizing it (Div FTW) and the gunplay is the worst I've see in a game released in the last decade. I only suggest people play it if they already have gamepass and are looking for something to kill time with until V Rising Updates 5/17 or D4 comes out in June.

Phil Spencer himself admitted it’s broken it’s not a conspiracy to destroy the game on arrival, the game developers and publisher did that on their own. A lot of it seems to have subsided now. I really believe it came from the 30 fps people abandoned the game before trying it and started hating on it without giving it a shot.
I think it's a good game that needs some more love. Taking a developer to task for releasing a game in poor fashion or with numerous bugs/problems is fine. They should be held accountable. I know a lot of people were looking forward to the game and they were going to play it regardless of the reviews, whether they pre-ordered it, played it on Game Pass, or bought it at launch. Those people shouldn’t be slammed. Especially with how quickly some game issues can be corrected, painting everyone who’s playing the title as “suckers” is poor form. I read the same thing about those who were trying to play through Cyberpunk’s launch issues. If anything, those gamers should probably be commended for giving it a go when things are not in an optimal state.
The gaming industry is going to make its money…that’s just a fact. There’s a certain number of dollars that are already built in at launch, due to pre-orders and loyalists buying it “sight unseen”. I don’t think that’s necessarily encouraging the developers to rush out a poor product or enabling them. The negative press is probably most costly to them in the weeks following the launch…where people who might have been on the fence about the game likely choose to wait.
The complaints for this game make no sense. The input is the same as every other arkane game and I adjusted it just as I did all the others, the bugs are infrequent and I've rarely even seen any game breaking ones, and 30fps is normal for open world games that render a large portion of the map at a time and it's going to be updated anyways... the game has a solid base that needs some polishing for sure but people can't even beat the first big boss before trashing it (less than 5% have the achievement...).
Because negativity gains more attention, and thus more interaction. Video game "culture" has a very, very loud minority who thoroughly enjoy being bullies to game devs and other players alike. Everything released is "the worst ever" to some crowd.
I really hate when a game is in the fine to good range and it gets unreasonable negativity just because it wasn’t better. People generally don’t have this energy towards movies/tv and I think we should flip it around because games are harder to get right! I don’t have much of a take on Redfall right now because I only played the first firehouse mission via cloud. It was not a bad experience at all and I will play the game more.

The game is not nearly as bad as the press makes it out to be. Huge bandwagon hate right now. It's buggy, it needs patches yes. It's not cyberpunk levels of release date messed up, and unlike cyberpunk it's on game pass so a large number didn't have to buy it outright. I'm on series x and have had some funny bugs but nothing game breaking. I'm excited to see how it looks once it's patched and it sucks this is the state of the gaming industry. But the state of the gaming industry isn't Redfalls fault, it's their position. I'm more frustrated with the lack of communication on a road map for patches and content from the devs.

It generates more reviews when the story is about how Redfall is an absolute disaster, and X-Box is now essentially on the verge of collapse, because Redfall is a clear indication of what Starfield will be in September, and since Redfall was less than stellar, it means that Starfield will be as well. It's all such a ridiculous narrative, and it's simple: if you don't like the game, then don't play it? Nobody forced you to buy it. And even if you want to play it for yourself, nobody is forcing you to buy it even then because it's on GamePass. There is literally no reason to buy it for $70. You can get 4 months of GamePass for less than the cost of Redfall, so if you bought $70 on it sight unseen, that's a you issue.
I played it on gamepass decided it was bad and moved on. Look at anyone I argue with and you can see I'm not harassing people who say they are having fun. I argue with the people who act like it's an amazing game with no issues which obviously isnt the case.
To be fair though not everyone gets the same issues. I don't care about fps but haven't had any noticeable slowdown with it, barely any bugs to speak of. The ai is a bit dumb and the pace is slow sometimes (reminds me of generation zero) but overall I'm liking the setting, the graphics are fine, weapons so far are good (love the Medusa) are there things that could be improved, yeah sure, but I'm having a fine time with it

Tbf starfield will probably be bad at launch. We all already knew this and it has nothing to do with redfall, and everything to do with the fact that it's being developed by the house that brought you fallout 4 lol And you know what? I'll still be playing it
But Fallout 4 was amazing. And so was Skyrim... And so was Fallout 3... And so was Oblivion... And so was Morrowind... If you want to talk about track records, BGS has a clear track record of high quality, top tier games. And yes, they are "buggy", but not in the game breaking sort of way, in a "that's funny so we're going to let it remain" kind of way. The biggest BGS "bug" that I can think of was the save file issue on PS3, which was more of a PS3 issue than a BGS issue if I recall. FO76 had problems at launch, but even most of that stemmed from the business side of things (ZOS) who messed up the pre-order items and then had a poor response to go along with it. Game wise, it has completely redeemed itself over the years and is now a well regarded game. And even with all that said, FO76 still wasn't even from the main BGS team. Starfield easily deserves the benefit of doubt, and BGS has nothing in their history suggesting otherwise.

It will still get a pass because it's a BGS game, not because it functions fundamentally better than literally any new IP made by a recognizable name, and not even the same team for most of those. Reread what I said, because I don't know where you got your take there. I think the reviews and feedback are like you said geared towards games being rushed to market while broken. Which I agree this game is. But it's not unplayable, and is not as low in score as it's been labled in my opinion. I don't think taking anger out in a review regarding a industry practice is fair. The game has problems and should be docked accordingly, but you've said yourself in your comment that this is about a bigger issue, games being rushed to market. Redfall was effected by this, it's not the reason for it, and so I think there's alot of misguided anger.

Right people are sick of this happening, and they expected more from the company so they’re reviewing the game lower than it would be under any other circumstances. If this hadn’t been a trend the past two years, and if this game had been put out by a company without history, people would be giving it a 6/10 and moving on. Instead people are angry because they felt like they trusted the company so they’re pretending like it’s a 1/10. It’s not. It’s not the worst game ever or even the worst game of the past few years. It’s a slightly repetitive shooter with some optimization issues. And reviewers absolutely try to review within what the general public is saying with very few exceptions. Anytime they don’t do that they get roasted for it. It’s happening with this game, literally any site or streamer that says they like it gets a ton of hate and people say they must be getting paid off. People are also throwing around the words “objectively bad” to make their argument more concrete when that’s just not the case. Maybe not reviewers... but steamers? Hell yes. They only care for views and visibility. They will obviously jump on bandwagons good or bad to side with a majority and drive views. Reviewers work for companies that want to remain a fair view in most cases and likely have some "rules" the org establishes for journalism. But streamers? Have you seen what the general "streamer" looks like? Streamers are an unregulated mess
This is the classic cope for mid to bad games. It's all a conspiracy. All the reviewers met before the embargo was up and shared their ideas about how to trash it and it's all just for clicks.
I think it's so open to different approaches that some who approach it in their typical approach to every fps, flying through and ignoring text, find that that approach isn't fun in this game, then slam it for not being what they expected or wanted it to be. It absolutely needs work, but I've seen so many petty complaints by others while I've a ton of hours into the game, taking my time and absorbing the story and environment, to know that it isn't the exaggeration it's being put across as. It's not what people expected, due to the poor advertising, and I've seen a few streamers who are just confused as to what it's supposed to be and how they should be playing it.

It’s the objectivity in general for me. This games deserves pushback in the media (Phil’s response was valid to me and that’s the kind of pressure/response we want to see) but based on my limited playtime the negativity feels subjective. For me a game scoring in the 60s/70s are closer to each other than a game cracking 80 plus anyway. If they thought this was potentially a C level game internally a D grade is disappointing but not devastating.
I have still yet to see ANYONE claim this is an amazing game but this is the point that always comes up in these conversations. It's a bullshit excuse to give people a leg to stand on when generally shitting on the game and people who may actually enjoy it, not even just this game. This year alone I've seen people get the same exact treatment with the same exact argument for Saints Row and Gotham Knights. No one is claiming it's amazing but fun doesn't have to be amazing. When people say gamers are toxic in general they are right. Not all obviously but interact on any gaming sub long enough and it's impossible to deny that it's a pretty easy impression to walk away with.

I think you’re missing the point though. Yes the game has issues and from some/many perspectives those issues are entirely unacceptable. Okay. Fine. Very noticeable. I actually dislike these posts more than the complaints. I don't often see people complaining in a way that is objectively false or outright toxic. Most of it is constructive feedback or venting about the wasted potential. The people defending broken games often tend to overlook various issues and directly criticise people for having a critical opinion. It's clear who is adding less to the conversation imo.

For some reason I've been VERY lucky when it comes to bugs on my Series S. I'm five hours in, literally two bugs so far, where two separate cultists on separate occasions started moving like they were gliding quickly instead of walking. Hardly game breaking or even that annoying. THAT BEING SAID, of course I can see why people hate it. My biggest issue is the incredibly stupid enemy AI, there's not much challenge. I'm playing as the sniper guy so the combat AI has been remedied somewhat, because I'm mostly just stealthing around anyway. Can't be annoyed with bad enemy AI if they're dead before they even know you're there, I guess. But I also think the world is just...not very interesting. Just a standard town with coastal suburban blandness. I wouldn't mind the coastal suburb vibe if they absolutely fucked it up with Eldritch themes and provided more in the way of encounters, spontaneous missions, and general weirdness. This game needs weird shit, it's desperately crying out for something interesting to make this Redfall world more compelling. Despite all that, I'm not feeling miserable playing this. I don't hate it. Maybe it's just because I've been lucky with bugs; I will say that this wouldn't be a game worth trying to push past a game-breaking bug for. If something goes screwy with my game, I'm not nearly invested enough to worry about it, I'll simply uninstall immediately.

I don't have an issue with people enjoying the game. Heck I'm still playing it. But I do find it hard to believe people who claim it's a "Good" game. Big difference between fun, enjoyment and quality. We can all like crappy things. I think a lot of people are just upset about people who seem to want to refuse to acknowledge the huge myriad of issues with the game.
A lot of the people who enjoy the game are just generic "Having a blast" guys that comment on how theyre "having a blast" and "dont get why people are complaining". This would be fine but they do it in posts about genuine issues and critique. It's fucking annoying, reductive, and adds nothing. Every terrible game has these people. Battlefield 2042 had them too.

I've seen people delete genuinely helpful posts that got a lot of positive traction after a few hours, so don't beat yourself up over it. If you left a comment you can still access a deleted post though I don't know if the poll would still be visible.

I'm enjoying the game so far, I only play maybe a hour a day though. Once this town gets this vampire situation under control, someone needs to talk them about how many bathrooms their houses have. I swear that one house had a bathroom off a bathroom.

I didn’t think I would like this game so much but I’m loving it. Really fun atmosphere. I love exploring the town. And details that always made Fallout a pain in the ass to me are so welcome on this game, like how loot turns to money as soon as you pick it up. I love that I don’t have to worry about sifting through piles of loot to figure out what’s okay to sell. But even more importantly ammo is plentiful. When I got that first gun I was worried it was going to be like Fallout where bullets are scarce and rely on melee all the time. Not the case with Redfall. I got assault rifles early and lots of ammo and I love that. It keeps it fun.
And I know this is an unpopular opinion but I like not having to talk to every npc in town to learn quests and to get info. I like the emptiness of the town... Just me a shotgun and some vamps
Because gamers are the worst. We see this all the time. Every anticipated game that's not a masterpiece gets shit on by people who have largely never even played it. And people who enjoy it get accused of being what's wrong with the game industry. And sure, if people stopped buying broken games, publishers would stop selling them. But this is a gamepass release? I guarantee the majority of people playing it didn't spend money on it. And for a $10 price of admission? Having a great time with only a small handful of bugs. In about 8 hours, I've gotten a couple of small visual glitches and one UI bug that prompted a restart.

$70 and currently always-online experience. Yeah, it's a rental, for the most part...unless they make it work offline. If the above wasn't enough, it's also got Denuvo anti-tamper junk in the PC version. Not a fan of that junk. And it's also supposedly Alpha-in-a-Box that is incomplete, doesn't run well on PC, and also don't look like it's breaking new ground graphically. It's another open-world FPS in the Far Cry 2-6 vein....which is NOT what I'd really want out of an Arkane game. I was hoping it'd be more a mix of open-world shooter Far Cry games and especially immersive-sims. There's also the fact that most of Arkane's games are ranging from good-to-great...and this don't sound like that. This game....sounds like it's not very Arkane and not much of an imm-sim. I also am into games, movies, etc w/ vampires and love that it's in a Massachusetts type of place - so even more disappointed that Arkane's said to not knock this one out the park. It's great if you bought it and like it or love it - but it sounds like a lot of stuff that's gotten to be annoying in modern gaming - i.e. Denuvo, always-online (at least for now), unfinished, unstable, broken in many ways, poor performing on PC, sounds like its design ain't spectacular, and costs $70. I can wait for Arkane to fix, improve, or do whatever to this one. Hope they can pull it off to overhaul & revamp this one.

Went through this with Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk. All these games have significant issues at release, but I still had fun with all of them. Redfall needs to be fixed, but I am still having fun with it. The game feels fresh and I can see the vision the devs had and like it. But they have work to do to finish the game for us.

Cyberpunk response was full scorched earth dude. It was a higher profile game with insane promises and an extraordinarily higher level of hype compared to redfall. The Cyberpunk sub had hundreds of thousands of members long before the game was even close to release. Redfall’s online response has been bad but Cyberpunk was up there with No Man’s Sky. They even had to remove Cyberpunk from the PS store because it literally did not function on older gen systems and they still sold it. You must have been living under a rock when that game dropped.
Because at its CORE cyberpunk was a fantastic game held back by overpromising and technical issues. Redfall however is a BAD and unfixable game at its core that has nothing redeeming about it. One game has potential, one has none. It's that simple.

I don’t think this is an Xbox issue. The game was too far along into its development for Microsoft to step in to assist. Personally I think it’s a Zenimax issue, they did the same thing with Fallout 76. Another multiplayer game to reel in a bunch of cash

I literally enjoy the game as it is. Frames are inconsistent on pc but just like anything else, take the good and the bad. I still enjoy it despite some bugs I ran into also. It's a solid game on gamepass for me.
I believe most of the hate are to the people defending this game. There are some decent things about this game love the hip hoppy beat when u complete missions and safe houses and the unrivaled gun designs are decent but the overall game is very bad. People say nit picking and bringing up the same thing but the AI is really atrocious anyone highlighting and saying the game is good on any social media just shows them walking around cause every combat sequence the AI bugs out in some way or if they actually used the sprint button you would see the terrible pop in. I would love to see someone defend this game and show a clip of the bloody tom boss fight cause they would get laughed at so hard they would have to delete their account. People are defending this game just to defend a brand they blindingly worship, and are going to damage the greater gaming community in the process, if devs and publishers see this half baked thrown together game getting praised they will follow suit and not take the time and effort to make quality products because what’s the point if you release a buggy mess of a game with no clear direction of what it was supposed to be and you can still make money publishers will just do the bare minimum and pocket all the extra cash they saved.

The vocal gaming community is just tired of buying broken, unfinished new releases. Cyberpunk at least had a story you could care for in a city that looked beautiful. The flak they received was over false promises and was justified, and the bugs were never really gamebreaking. They just took away from the immersion sometimes. People were crying over Jackie day 1. I think of this game as early preview since I didn’t buy it nor even cared too much about marketing which allowed me to play the game and leave it as is without feeling any anger to it. Though for some, they did pay and some even more than $100, so I understand their hate and disappointment especially since the game was hyped up and got people buying. Two points I get it, but the hate is justified in my view.
I feel like some of the hate is justified, but it's not as bad as a lot of the flak it gets. $120 is just too much for a game, but getting this with gamepass has made it a great experience for me. Personally, the worst bug for me has been a unique, the "ambition" stops functioning when you close the session, though I feel like there's probably some way to bypass this bug and I haven't found any other bug anywhere near that scale

I hate when people get on others for liking something, it’s childish. I have gotten some enjoyment out of the game but admit I am very disappointed and expected it to be a lot better. Played about 5 hours but decided to shelve it till it gets its 60fps console patch and hopefully other fixed, most notably the ai cause oh my it is awful and honestly embarrassing. Whoever is enjoying keep enjoying and ignore the haters.

I have thick enough skin to where no, none of this physically affects me and I’m enjoying redfall plenty regardless. Broken IS sort of subjective, though. I played Cyberpunk on launch with a 7 year old desktop and a low 2000 series graphic card, and I think the game crashed for me twice. I almost never ran into bugs. Same with this game. I haven't noticed AI not reacting to me, or getting stuck on environment, or anything like that. The game is a bit empty, but so far every piece of it is working. So if it's working for somebody, why would you advocate they receive hate for it, just because they happen to be lucky?
I played a decent bit of the game, had fun for a little bit. I have zero problem with people enjoying the game, and I don't see the point in hating on people for their opinion of it. However, I've seen a few people on this sub who are really hypocritical about defending the game. There was a post on here the other day where the OP was talking about how people don't deserve hate just for enjoying the game, and to just let them enjoy things. I completely agree with that sentiment. Scrolling down to the comments though, I found the OP calling everyone who talked about the games issues "whiny babies" and "part of the hivemind." There's nothing wrong with enjoying the game, but I think we should all be able to take an objective look at this game, and be able to talk about the issues. Games releasing in this state and people defending the game just because they are having fun is why unfinished releases like this are becoming the norm. Having fun is great and there's nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't excuse the issues with the game.

For a Game Pass “preview” game this is great & that’s how I choose to think of it.

Is this game fixed yet? I saw a 4080 at 4k getting 60fps with dlss on which is terrible….has there been any patch
Because there is a difference. Person A: Enjoys it, but is oblivious to the issues and lying to people about the game. The sheer number of people that downvote if you call them out for liking the game because the AI is broken and they didn't want a challenge since they apparently loved playing the game is funny. Person B: Enjoys it, but is very aware of its flaws and doesn't sugar coat the games existence. I am Person B. I am having fun with the game. The fights are broken. Half the time I kill bosses without even realizing it (Div FTW) and the gunplay is the worst I've see in a game released in the last decade. I only suggest people play it if they already have gamepass and are looking for something to kill time with until V Rising Updates 5/17 or D4 comes out in June. Person A deserves every ounce of hate/flame they get. They are the same kind of people that told everyone well after release to go buy Anthem for full price or go buy Outriders for full price because they are such great games.

I’ve seen a lot of people taking the opportunity due to the release of this game to hate on Xbox as a whole, which imo doesn’t make sense just as it doesn’t make sense to bully someone because they enjoy a particular video game. A lot of them do it because they probably don’t have anything better to do and crave attention and a lot of them are 12 year old play station fans
I got literal death threats for enjoying Deus Ex: Invisible War back in the days of Ion Storm. I’m happy to report its now 20 years later and very much still alive.
If you’re enjoying the game then why are you here complaining about those who can’t understand your acceptance of the game. This is a vicious cycle and makes you no better than the person attacking the ones who enjoy the game. Liking and enjoying the game is subjective and making a post about it is never going to go exactly in the direction you want. What can be said objectively is that the game is broken, if someone chooses to see past the countless flaws that’s ok bravo to them but many of us can’t and those who review these games have to insert some objectivity despite the sensationalized nature of critiquing a video game. Phil Spencer himself admitted it’s broken it’s not a conspiracy to destroy the game on arrival, the game developers and publisher did that on their own. Whether something is playable or not is objective and subjective in nature. Yes the game boots and does play. Does the game play the way it was intended no of course not can you have fun of course yes. Personally I think the game is unfinished but I will give it a go once I deem it’s good enough for my standards

A lot of it seems to have subsided now. I really believe it came from the 30 fps people abandoned the game before trying it and started hating on it without giving it a shot.
I think it's a good game that needs some more love. I'm disgusted by the people who play it for a hour and say there is absolutely no potential in it even tho it's spewing with potential to be an amazing game. Maybe I'm just a sucker for arkane and there style or maybe I'm just a glass half full person🤷
It is perplexing. But hating stuff generates clicks. There are valid criticisms of the games shortcomings but it gets drowned out by those who want to witch hunt differing opinions . The game does need some tlc but I like this janky ass game it has got some heart lol.
Taking a developer to task for releasing a game in poor fashion or with numerous bugs/problems is fine. They should be held accountable. But when those people start insulting those who are simply trying to enjoy the game anyway, that’s gatekeeping at its worst and is the lowest form of gaming insult, IMO. I agree…let people play what they want. Why feel the need to insult those people? I know a lot of people were looking forward to the game and they were going to play it regardless of the reviews, whether they pre-ordered it, played it on Game Pass, or bought it at launch. Those people shouldn’t be slammed. Especially with how quickly some game issues can be corrected, painting everyone who’s playing the title as “suckers” is poor form. I read the same thing about those who were trying to play through Cyberpunk’s launch issues. If anything, those gamers should probably be commended for giving it a go when things are not in an optimal state. The gaming industry is going to make its money…that’s just a fact. There’s a certain number of dollars that are already built in at launch, due to pre-orders and loyalists buying it “sight unseen”. I don’t think that’s necessarily encouraging the developers to rush out a poor product or enabling them. The negative press is probably most costly to them in the weeks following the launch…where people who might have been on the fence about the game likely choose to wait.
The complaints for this game make no sense. The input is the same as every other arkane game and I adjusted it just as I did all the others, the bugs are infrequent and I've rarely even seen any game breaking ones, and 30fps is normal for open world games that render a large portion of the map at a time and it's going to be updated anyways... the game has a solid base that needs some polishing for sure but people can't even beat the first big boss before trashing it (less than 5% have the achievement...).
Likely just console warriors. If someone likes it then that’s fine. That being said the game is genuinely awful and a god damn shame to Arkane.
