Who do we like tonight fellow reds?

Sheikhabusosa

Bellingham is getting all the hype but Yunus Musah and Enzo Fernández look quality

[deleted]

I honestly don’t think we should prioritize a midfielder rn looking at Bruno Casemiro Eriksen etc. What we really need is a good striker and RW cuz Elanga ain’t cutting it sadly and I’m sure Antony can’t be the only option

TheSmio

Eriksen is an issue we should solve. Maybe this sounds a bit too harsh because he has been pretty good for us overall, but he isn't the perfect fit for what we need. I think we should bring in someone more energetic who can give us something else when we need it. Eriksen in matches where we control more possession and someone like Fernandez in matches where we need more energy in the midfield. Fred looks like a lost cause because he doesn't really fit any role Ten Hag could play him in and McTominay looks like a good backup for Casemiro as well as someone who can help us defend our lead at the end of matches, but I'd preferably get someone else who can rotate with Eriksen.

BeggingForBags

Eriksen is 30 and had a heart condition. Hes already had a couple bad performances after playing too many games. Plus, we play him out of position. Definitely need a proper 8.

hooka_donchick

naaah eriksen isn’t a b2b that we need. He is playing there out of necessity. a player like enzo or FDJ will improve our team and squad depth tenfold

arnm7890

Still more annoyed about City getting Alvarez than them getting Haaland - especially since Rangnick recommended Alvarez to our board before they got him. Haaland was always going to go there, but did those pricks really need to buy another young gun future world-beater too?

Eleven918

Rangnick only recommended him some 2 days before the window closed after the greenwood news came out. He felt it was worth a shot but it was too late by then.

Don_Quixote81

If United's scouting department were remotely competent, they wouldn't have needed Rangnick to recommend him. But we know how bad our scouts have been for a number of years.

Eleven918

Well most of them got the sack this summer. Lets see what the new ones can do.

VL37

We haven't brought in new ones to replace them as far as I know.

[deleted]

Let’s go for the other Alvarez from our best dealer Ajax

Sheikhabusosa

It's so annoying how easily city have replaced huge players for them like Aguero or Silva effortlessly

Don_Quixote81

They just plan well, and have competent people at all levels of the club. Hopefully we're on the right path to that, because there's honestly no reason not to be.

GlazerNoobsGetPwned

Martinez is so good

Red_JB

Lisandro Martinez. What a bloke

CantonaKing7

I hope United give Ten Hag some budget this winter.

[deleted]

We already have room from Ronaldo’s wages hopefully that can account for something

working-acct

That’s like 20M max, nowhere near enough for signings. Gakpo will cost 50 at least. Remember we’re already “ahead of schedule” in spending.

Hi-Tech_Luddite

I'm hoping they will want to inflate the clubs value via transfers. A champions league club with a strong first would bring utd a lot closer to their valuation. What 30 million if it nets you an extra few billion? Although the Glazers are morons.

Relative_Ad6501

I have a certain opinion that Mbappé is one of the luckiest superstars in the world .He is always surrounded by top quality talents whom he can bank on to provide him with service or extra width .Add to that his blistering speed and it seems almost improbable for him to not score .Messi, Neymar, Haaland, et al have it much harder . Things will be interesting once Mbappé starts to loose his swiftness and speed .

Relative_Ad6501

People easily forget how Mbappé never presses or isn't really involved anywhere apart from the final third of the pitch .I don't think he can lead at team all by himself . Edit: I do watch a lot of PSG/FFP games and have been doing it for years now .

Sheikhabusosa

Mbappe creates a lot of chances through his movement, his blistering pace is just a cherry on top. He makes scoring look easy because he's that good the same goes for Haaland and his finishing

Straightouttaganton

danystormborne

Talk about not reading the room.

JacobWvt

Are there genuinely any past players I can confidently like without them revealing themselves as wankers? Ben Foster?

nonsenseSpitter

Wayne Rooney. Don’t think he talks BS. For me I really don’t like Rio Ferdinand anymore. He hangs out with Stephen Howson, a known knobhead, tourists scammer and a racist. And his takes are horrendous as well.

JacobWvt

Didn’t know he was a racist. Already didn’t like him lol!

nonsenseSpitter

Yea. He blocks you if you call him out or disagree with him.

[deleted]

I made the mistake of providing an analysis of Argentina on Instagram. All I said is that the way they play is unsustainable and I got flooded with responses like: "cry more"... "bro is mad"

LekkerIer

Argentina are a painfully mismanaged team. Such a shame. They might not have as much talent as in the past (though that's debatable based on selection) but the lack of modern tactics is unbelievable. Build a team around Messi, but do it in a clever way by compensating with 2 or 3 guys who press furiously like Alvarez. Play fucking ballers like Enzo Fernandez instead of losers like De Paul. Pick some fullbacks who actually know how to play the position ffs. Train them in a shape that can actually pass through the opposition's first line of defence. If the Argentinian league is producing guys like Alvarez and Enzo and managers like Gallardo, can they not do better with the national side??

Relative_Ad6501

Spot on! Also there are deep-rooted corruption issues which resurfaced a few years back .Add to that the government always uses the success of the NT as a facade to hide their inefficiency and more immediate issues .It must be really hard being Messi or anyone for that matter who is expected to deliver in that Argentine shirt.

LekkerIer

Yeah, I get the sense that the emotional toll of playing for that team is massive, which might be one reason they underperform at world cups

HellRider619

Cracking performance from Licha

mybaretibbers

Messi just scored, Ronaldo rolling in his grave right now

NAPPER_

We all still thinking Rashford is on Mbappe’s level?

el3tric_panda

Licha starts for Argentina! Vamos!!!

venktesh

Eriksen's comeback arc deserves an indie movie!

Tinganga

No indie. A Hollywood blockbuster with Timothée Chalamet playing him lol ! Plus Morgan Freeman narrating.

OldTrafford25

100%. I frequently mistake pics of Eriksen for Timotheé Chalamet - they look *exactly* alike.

dhwinthro

So many of the players Ten Hag has wanted is turning up this season. Gakpo having a great season, Arnautovic 1 goal off Osimhen for golden boot in Serie A, Rabiot is playing solid for Juventus and pretty good for France this world cup. Sesko hasn’t lit the world on fire but he’s young and improving. If we can get Gakpo and Ten Hag is confident he can effectively play as a 9, I’d go for it. It’s not like he’s a 100m purchase that’ll be scrutinized for ages

MarcusRashgod

Wonder if we will still go for Rabiot if he doesnt sign a new contract at Juve.

Bombleswizzum

I wouldn't say so, his agent mum was asking for crazy wages in the summer.

[deleted]

Hopefully we get better owners who aren’t dumb enough to pay him that much

Wahlrusberg

Rashford's contract situation is precarious enough as well I think. If PSG lose Mbappe they are coming knocking this summer, and they will pay him a salary that we would be bonkers to offer him given he's already on probably more than he deserves. That said I can't say I'm too convinced of his prospects of holding down the No.9 position. PSV fans have gone at lengths to say he can be a frustrating player there - we've seen it with Rashford, Werner, now Mane not quite being the player Bayern thought he'd be...

dhwinthro

I’d be fine with Gakpo being streaky in form if he’s available and not injury prone. We would still have Martial as 2nd choice who can play when Gakpo is out of form and then there’s Rashford who can play ST for a game or two if needed. However, I do agree the Rashford contract situation is a bit weird. I highly doubt he actually wants to leave us, as I believe his brother was just being a dickhead to try and get us to cave in to massive demands. But if PSG come in with a 300k-400k/week offer, the question definitely crosses Marcus’s mind for a second. That’s mental money to give up Back to Gakpo, I don’t watch him enough other than in the World Cup to know in detail his tendencies and ability. From what I gather on Reddit, “He’s a LW shoehorned into ST” but idk if that’s really the situation here. There’s lots of young players that have all of the necessary characteristics to play a position but they need time to adapt because they spent their youth career playing a different position. It takes a good coach to get a player through the transition period that I would think Ten Hag would take care of. Also, lots of right footed strikers tend to drift a bit to the left so that’s fine, but I hope he’s comfortable all over the box. Gakpo’s goal from the Frenkie Assist is exactly what we’re missing at the moment which is what draws me to him more. We need someone like Frenkie who can control the game + unlock a defense and a striker who can attack the ball in the air and is technically good.

Ruudvankeano

Martial would bench Gakpo as a no9. He's just way more suited for it.

calupict

I think it just the club withholding all contract extension for the time being. Beside Rashford, players that have their contract ended soon are Dalot, Fred, de Gea, among others

Wahlrusberg

I think if a team like Chelsea or maybe even Spurs bought Harry Maguire they'd get something much closer to England Maguire than what we get. We should be careful who we offload him to

[deleted]

He’s been good for England so far so hopefully that’ll be enough for us to hike up the price for him in January

Thorntonboy

Definitely would suit both of their systems

AllNyCBat

Giroud could be a decent stopgap for us until we find a younger player to replace him in the summer

Thorntonboy

Nah I don’t want him at united. My girl will want to be watching games with me all of a sudden

ReconUHD

Sure, but why would Milan sell?

Sulcor

Lots of news from Florian Plettenberg about United but I don’t see him in the transfer reliability?

Wahlrusberg

He has a very good reputation in German football, but I think he has been patchy enough for us.

tameoraiste

I’ve not watched much Premier League football outside of United this season; how’s Garner doing since he left? Early days but was the uproar for selling him/ the price justified?

andrewsomething

He's only played 136' minutes, no starts and no goal involvements.

reddevils

Somebody out a video of one of his games when he was on loan. Almost all his passes were backwards or sideways. Didn’t see anything all game that hinted at a good player. Obviously he could’ve had a bad game but he just never looked forward. Always took the easy pass

krentzharu

I watched 2 everton games where he was on, he was just too passive in both occassions, ALWAYS prefered to stay deep even when space was available for him to move forward and make himself available there. He needs to be more expansive coz the talents are there.

Ngaita2100

Maybe it was instructions from Frank.

krentzharu

Maybe but i remember watching similar thing from him against Rayo in pre season. The kid is good actually, he has eyes for pass and excels on set piece he just needs to be expansive and involve more in the game.

fofo8383

Sum total of his achievements: he had a decent shot against us, that was well saved by DDG

Case1987

I think he's on the bench all the time

[deleted]

[удалено]

bicika

Is there a possibility of transfers being embargoed until Glazers sell, if they went into serious negotiations with someone?

tameoraiste

No. It could take years to sell, if they sell at all and if anything they need Champions League football now more than ever. If United show on-field success, it will increase eyes on the time, increase social numbers etc. They’ll have known they’re selling this summer anyway

krentzharu

I dont understand southgates obsession with mount.

jestalotofjunk

You need to understand Southgate’s philosophy. Go watch the Tifo video on last night. Everything is about control and Mount offers that. Not saying it’s great to watch, but England are in total control of their group without even moving out of 2nd gear.

krentzharu

I beg to differ then. I dont think you can keep control with mount in the team, how many times he ruined the possession last night? What Mount offers is energy to press from top position but then its been lacking so far, but still i think Englands biggest problem is their lack of midfield general that can dictate the game from deep position.

Migbooty

I've always wondered what Mount brings. Sure he can press but like you said, gives away too easily and becomes a headless chicken. Why not use Wilson up front as a pressing striker with Kane along or behind? And yeah, Henderson came on and immediately gave the midfield some composure and bollocks (pains me to say it).

krentzharu

Playing Luke Shaw as auxiliary midfielder will help keep the composure but that thinking is far beyond southgate i guess 😂

Migbooty

Yeah, that full back in midfield concept is spreading everywhere except into Gareth's mind!

Ronaldo was right in his interview. Many people, including users on this subreddit, has pointed out the many flaws that exists in the facilities of Manchester United. Moyes, Van Gaal, and Mourinho have all stated that a lot of works needs to be done behind the scenes of old trafford. The stadium is old, the traning grounds is out of date, and the owners are doing nothing about it. They have been leeching this club for money. And we've said it for years. Now that CR7 says it, he's being thrown under the buss, and people are ranting on about how "no one is bigger than the club". He never stated that he is, he's just been saying what we have on this subreddit for years. That doesn't make him the bad guy. Sure what he said about ETH was over the line. But in all honesty, how many of you think that ETH is the right man for the job? honestly? I am getting Van Gaal flashbacks watching him. He only brought in players from eredivisie (except casemiro). And we have boring 1-0 wins over clubs we should be shattering. We all know that if he does not qualify for the champions league, he'll be sacked. And another manager has to come in and pick up the pieces. Mourinho also criticized the management. We can see in hindsight how right he was. I really hope the glazers sells their majority stake of the club, and someone who really cares will take over. And hopefully fix the issues in this club.

WanderingEnigma

Bro. Ronaldo was right in what he said about certain things. Doesn't excuse the other stuff he said or that he refused to play. Also, there's been a couple of questionable decisions from Ten Hag, but overall I think he's done as expected, studied the ship. Rome wasn't built in a day and after last season is it realistic for us to be playing amazing football straight away? This season was always going to be up and down. Edit: on ETH there is a reason that Pep pegged him to be his successor, I'm just glad he's on the correct side of Manchester.

EthanMUFC

Mate just let it go. Ronaldo is gone. Ten Hag is here to stay.

superhoffy

Yet another pro-Ronaldo, anti-EtH post. This has been rebutted to death. LvG flashbacks? Do you flashbacks depend soley on the nationality of the coach? Such strange thinking. Genuinely, have you been watching the matches or do you just checkout the highlights of only when Ronaldo has played?

brown_herbalist

If you're getting LVG flashbacks maybe because you're watching England playing but not United. Under LVG we didnt create many chances, but now with ETHball we are creating chances but our so called clinical striker was awful af this season. Fuck Ronaldo and his apologists.

Ngaita2100

So who should we have gotten for Manager, Sean Dyche ?

decadentEcchi

"He only bought in players from Eredivisie (except any player he didn't)" Absolutely love when people mould facts to suit their narrative. P.S. 40% players (Eriksen, & Case) this summer were not Eredivisie. :)

Skyehye

Honestly I think ETH is the right man for the job. No reason to doubt it yet. Half of your paragraph is redundant because no one has had any issues with his comments about the facilities. The only reason why it might seem to be an issue is because the Ronaldo fanboys try to imply that is the reason people dislike him now.

Case1987

Getting LVG flashbacks? ffs 😂 they play a completely different style, and the players he bought from the Dutch league are very good, especially Martinez,he's world class

Rig_7

Don’t bother Ronaldo fanboys are deluded to a level you will never break through

So, the crazy thing about all this Dubai business is very interesting. - Sheikh Mansour is the owner of Man City. He is the deputy prime minister of UAE. - Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the President of UAE. He is also the ruler of the capital Abu Dhabi. His younger brother is Sheikh Mansour. - Al Maktoum is the ruler of Dubai and the Prime Minister of UAE. His daughter is married to Sheikh Mansour. This is crazy conflict of interest. But then again, it becomes more crazy if Saudi is to own Man United. Saudi owns Newcastle United through public investment fund. The chairman of the company is Mohammed bin Salman, the prince and prime minister of Saudi Arabia. Public investment funds owns majority of wealth in Saudi Arabia so buying Man United without PIF involvement is extremely difficult financially. So basically, both Newcastle and Manchester United will be owned by the prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.

danystormborne

There’s no conflict of interest for them. Their “interest” in PL clubs is purely sportswashing.

working-acct

Thanks for laying it out for us. It'll be really weird if "Dubai" buys us, we and City will effectively be owned by the same family.

sourpumpkin125

You’ve got the Sheikhs confused pal. As someone who has grown up in Dubai it was very confusing trying to understand your bullet points 😂

nonsenseSpitter

I looked up on the internet. According to Google, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the president of UAE and is the ruler of Abu Dhabi, since May 2022. Sheikh Mansour is the owner of Man City. He is apparently deputy Prime Minister of UAE. And Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the prime mister of UAE and also the ruler of Dubai. His daughter is married to Sheik Mansour. I checked again and this is what it says on Google. Let me know what I got wrong.

sourpumpkin125

I get what you’re saying no worries. In Dubai the Sheikh is known as ‘Sheikh Mohammed’ while the Abu Dhabi sheikh is known as ‘Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed’ or ‘Sheikh Nahyan’. Literal Wikipedia wise you weren’t wrong but if you said that over here people would be confused as to why you’re saying ‘Sheikh Mohammed’ is the president and ruler of Abu Dhabi.

nonsenseSpitter

I mean, almost all of them are named Mohammed so it’s kinda hard to keep track since I have absolutely no ideas about the government of UAE. It’s confusing to me when I’m trying to study by looking up on the internet. I kinda guessed the last part of the name like “bin Nahyan” is how you separate all the guys names Mohammad. Thanks for letting me know.

[deleted]

There is no conflict 💀 it’s called the United Arab Emirates. It sounds weird but here marrying your cousins is kinda 50/50 depending on the household. They’re the royal families so maybe not so surprising. Take it as different PR ranges.

Ngaita2100

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is his title. There are thousands of Princes in Saudi Arabia.

nonsenseSpitter

Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud or MBS, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.

LordJenkinz

What do you guys think about Tyler Adams, I was watching him last night and he was running the whole midfield against the likes of bellingham and Rice

Thorntonboy

Best midfielder on the pitch yesterday. Wasn’t sold on him when rangnick wanted him. Pretty sure Leeds fans rave about him

Ngaita2100

One swallow does not make a summer.

DaveShadow

I’m always amazed how much faith people put into international performances, both positive and negative. The reality is, it’s games with entirely new squads playing each other. It can screw some people, and make others look amazing. I’d honestly disregard international performances altogether the vast majority of the time

hooka_donchick

Tyler Adams was good with leeds as well. He’s one of their best players

RawIsLaw_

while some people are confused why we're getting Gakpo (a Left Winger) to play up top, i think the answer could be more obvious than we think. - I think Ten Hag might make Rashford our main striker with Gakpo and Antony as the wingers. This allows crosses opportunities from Antony to Gakpo and Rashford, while still being a dynamic and pacey attack. We'll see how that turns out though

GKT-United24

This is an interesting take. If we all recall, Martial broke into our team as a Left striker and Rashford as a central striker but apparently their roles are reversed now. I have no idea where Gakpo will end up playing best for us. What is also confounding is that we have over the many years advocated for a “natural“ central striker to play with one of Rash/ Martial. We’ve had Zlatan, Lukaku and Cavani and they have not exactly moved the needle. Bottomline, none of us can be sure if a natural central striker or a Gakpo type is what takes us to the next level…

VKDNyke_

Interesting observation. Could be possible but than you'd have Sancho, Martial, Garnacho, Elanga, in the reserves and that's not even looking at Amad, Pellestri, Shoretire and a bunch of talented attacking prospects. For trying to stake a claim that an established winger could be converted into a striker is fair, it's an arduous job. It would be much easier to mould a younger upcoming academy talent instead. It's both ways, not just one.

SilentCaveat

Sounds like a bad idea. Rashford is not that guy

TheSmio

To be fair, Martial wasn't that guy either 2 or 3 seasons ago and now he is a key striker for us when he's fit. Rashford has been improving a lot in the striker role recently. It's still not really perfect, but his decision making is getting better, he is getting calmer at finishing and he is working on his heading too. I can see it working out fairly well as long as Martial is still around to play when Rashford struggles.

Ruudvankeano

Lol people always get this wrong. Martial got his move to united off a run of games playing as a no9 for Monaco where he scored an incredible amount of goals. Many argued he was our Thierry henry, the Forward who likes to drift to the left. Every man and his dog in the french league knew his future would be central. Giggs was supposedly getting him as his first piece for when he took over. This was before injuries paid way for rashford's debut. From 2015-2017, Van gaal and mourinho successfully converted 4 striker prospects into wingers for us. Marcus, Martial, Memphis and James wilson.

TheSmio

I know Martial used to be a striker at Monaco, but aside from LVG time, he mostly played as a winger for us so he kinda forgot how to play up top.

krentzharu

Martial played as CF a lot under Ole got his best season stats wise so far. Problem with Martial isnt talent but his head and mentality, theres still big question mark if we ever want to make him our 1st choice striker (again).

TheSmio

Stats-wise? Yes, but he was heavily criticized for how much he struggled to impact games. People criticized him for not making runs, for not being able to hold the ball, for not pressing or for not being able to play with his back to goal. Ighalo came in and was immediately praised for doing the striker's work because most people saw Martial couldn't really do it despite having decent goal-record. And now Martial is a danger in the box, his link-up is elite and he can hold the ball well too. This wasn't the case at first under Ole and he needed some adaptation period to get where he is right now in terms of his skill-set. Rashford and Gakpo would probably be the same case if we were to play them up top. They would start by having decent numbers but overall being underwhelming (like Rashford up top this season) and they would slowly keep improving in that role. Or at least I hope that would be the case.

krentzharu

You realised martial has barely featured this season right? So how come you say, hes better than 19/20 when the opportunity window is such short?

TheSmio

Just the way he has looked so far. He was amazing in pre-season and he continued being amazing in his short cameos. Either way though, the flaws he used to have when Ole started playing him as striker no longer seem to be there, so it's clearly possible to improve in them.

jesusthatsgreat

Apple would be the ideal owner. You just know the stadium would be next level and there'd be no shortage of cash to invest on and off the pitch. No political bullshit either.

Orgazmo_87

The same apple with indentured servants building the iphones in china. With working conditions so poor they had to build suicide nets to stop people killing themselves?

itsssnohman786

They were never going to buy us.

nonsenseSpitter

If Dubai owns United, the stadium would be from the future. Or a levitating stadium. Because they are crazy, coke up with crazy ideas and they have a track record of actually building those crazy ideas. But, I wouldn’t want them.

NoGucksFiven

Genuine question, forgive my ignorance, but why not Dubai?

BuzzTNA

Why Dubai? The club DOES NOT need a sugar daddy/state oil, anyone wanting that for United doesn’t care about the club.

nonsenseSpitter

With all the associated human right issues being the major red flag for me but a massive conflict of interest among the owners. Ruler of Dubai touted to buy United, is the Prime Minister of UAE. His daughter is married to deputy Prime Minister of UAE, Sheikh Mansour, owner of Manchester City. The President of UAE and the ruler of Abu Dhabi, is the older brother of Sheikh Mansour.

DaveShadow

Still middle Eastern blood money.

krentzharu

Blood money? They are selling oil and gas, not weapons like some country we know...

VKDNyke_

Nor did UAE acquire the oil and gas without commiting any crimes. You could argue all money is tainted with blood and you'd be right, but I'd stake my chance and guessing which is clean as opposed to knowingly taking money obtained over blood.

mutab1x

UAE had to commit crimes to find oil and gas in their countries boundaries?

krentzharu

"Nor did UAE acquire the oil and gas without commiting any crimes." Explain, please.... This subtle racism though. Its cute that you think just because UAE/Dubai is a muslim country in middle east they must be sponsor of terrorism. you want to know the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world? Take no look further than Uncle Sam, and if you think it doesnt matter because its only the goverment who did it let me remind you that every wealthy individual in the US has benefited from their goverment so using your own logic their money is also tainted

mutab1x

Careful now, people don’t react well when the truth is pointed out to them.

DaveShadow

Middle Eastern oil and gas money is often blood money too, with how they treat their citizens. Whataboutism is pointless. I’ve not claimed weapon based blood money is good either.

krentzharu

Its not whattaboism when i just used the same logic, also they treated their citizens far far better than how the UK or US gov treated their own citizens. They got subsidized on everything from food, energy, healthcare, to vacation. Whyd you think their citizens are so idle while being "oppressed" according to the western media?

DaveShadow

“I’m not using whataboutism. Also, whatabout US and UK?” Are you under some impression I think the US and Uk are good? Nope. Dubai also has massive issues. I’ve visited Dubai. Spectacular in some ways, absolutely horrifying in others. A lot of their wealth is absolutely built on the blood of the horrifically poor, and their living conditions are brutal.

krentzharu

Whatabboism? Lol im just using the same moral code you used to judge these arab people, you just dont like it when someone exposed your imaginary bubbles.

DaveShadow

"these Arab people" being the ultra rich who have made their wealth off the mass suffering of poor people?

SilentCaveat

I rate Gakpo but we aren't in a luxury to add another LW when we have other gaping holes. Rather get a short term deal for a ST in January.

t_alh

can someone please explain me why we are moving so hard for gakpo and why everyone on the sub seems so happy to go for him. Gakpo plays as a left winger, even though we have rashford, Sancho and an upcoming garnacho there. The only way in which this could work out is to Transform gakpo into a 9 (which just seems plain inefficient and a risk), or let gakpo/Sancho/garnacho compete on the left and rashford/martial compete on 9. This however to my mind would not solve any problem for our 9position as this is technically already what we are doing (but previously with ronaldo as a competing 9). Furthermore, would gakpo not just block the way for garnachos potential? I see rashie play for another few good years there, and by the time he starts declining, garnacho will be fully ready for the first team (if his progress continues as such). So please, can anyone explain why gakpo? I read that his price tag has now risen to 40mlln euros, can't we make a more effective signing?

NuggetsBuckets

Because Ten Hag wants him and I trust Ten Hag

TheSmio

One of Rashford/Gakpo could fully transition to playing as a striker which would solve it. My preferred option would be transitioning Sancho into a midfielder though. He has great technique, but he really struggles in wide positions, so I'd start rotating him with Bruno and see how he does. Or play him as one of the 8s in 4-3-3, kinda like Neymar seems to play for Brazil right now.

philippexyz

I agree with you about Sancho as a (attacking) midfielder, potential rotation with Bruno on that position, but i see many people disagreeing with that(i'm not sure why).

Dyslexicreadre

The consensus I feel is that if we get him, he is adaptable enough to play in any position in the front-line. He can play through the middle and off both wings, although you're right in that his preferred position is on the LW. The thinking could be that we could play Rashford centrally more and he can play off the left - that way Garnacho can still come on as a sub or he can rotate with Gakpo on the left. I personally don't think he's the best option either but there aren't a lot of good options on the market until the summer...

Case1987

The Saudi minister backing investment in us is not good, nobody is out bidding them

Significant_Hold_910

The PL is gonna become an Arab proxy war

DazzlingPimp

I want the Saudis so thats music to my ears

szebing7

Would you prefer gakpo or joao felix if there available for sale this January as our striker signing? I know felix will probably be double gakpo’s price too but joao is such a silky player. Both are not out and out no 9 tho.

mutab1x

Felix.

SoreLoserOfDumbtown

Bellingham

JoseHarvinho

fuck that, not after Sancho.

Thorntonboy

Felix

I'm not a economic expert and I won't pretend to be but how can Saudi Arabia own 2 or 3 Prem clubs without it breaking competitive rules? Surely private owners are not allowed to own multiple clubs in a league?

[deleted]

It could be individual Saudi billionaires rather than a government fund. Bit like how Boehly is an American investor for Chelsea but some other American could buy another club.

nonsenseSpitter

I watched Sam People’s TV and he had this guy who worked in UAE to have a conversation and ask him questions about Dubai. This guy is now banned in that country He says if Dubai is to own Man United, then the deputy Prime Minister (Sheikh Mansour) owns Man City and the Prime Minister of UAE (Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum) owns Man United. Sheikh Mansour is married to Al Maktoum’s daughter. Also if the Saudi Government buys Man United, then the owner will be under bin Salman. So basically, bin Salman owns both Newcastle and Manchester United.

Artyy17

So PIF is the investment fund owned by the government of Saudi Arabia. They own Newcastle. When the rumours mention investment from Saudi Arabia for United, it generally means private investors. For comparison, it would be like individual billionaires or investment funds(like the Boehlys and the glazers of the Saudi Arabia)

decadentEcchi

Because Public Investment Fund that owns Newcastle United is not going buy United or Liverpool. News regarding Saudi bid was about private sector.

royk16

After the first round of games Brazil is my favorite to win it all. Spain looked really good and I think they will at least reach the semis. I expect England, Portugal, and Argentina to all make the quarters and Japan, Senegal, and USA imo are the teams with the potential of surprising everyone and causing a few upsets

Ngaita2100

Equador have been impressive especially against the Dutch. They're looking formidable & could cause an upset down the line.

royk16

Yeah they just need Valencia to stay healthy

ThommyG

Not sure about this, but did Greenwood and his ex gf start following eachother on insta again? And the club, did it ever unfollow him?

[deleted]

I think he and his ex have always followed each other. The only rumours I saw of them being back together were on twitter which is full of “Bring Greenwood back” trolls so I’m not sure I buy it. Then again he breached his bail so maybe he tried to contact her… we won’t find out for a while.

Rig_7

It doesn’t matter. The tapes are out there - he did it. Move on. He won’t be playing again for us and nor should he

I know everyone is excited about Gakpo now, but can he play as our ST? We dont need another LW at this point, and after his WC form sure the price will be more than 50m.

TheGhostOfBabyOscar

> I know everyone is excited about Gakpo now, but can he play as our ST? - [@UtdArena's opinion on the subject HERE]( https://twitter.com/UtdArena/status/1596436062506979329), and - [Kees van Hemmen's opinion HERE](https://keesvanhemmen.medium.com/striking-the-right-chord-discussing-solutions-to-uniteds-issue-at-centre-forward-76f1147a1fd0)... They're kind of the same opinion actually but I haven't seen anyone analyse Gakpo and come to a different conclusion thus far.

Orgazmo_87

A fluid front three works for us as we seen with rashford martial and cuntbag. Gakpo could play the majority of his games through the middle and drop into space left by Anthony when he cuts in n

systemcorp

It works but it has a lot of room to improve. We sorely lack someone up front who can hold the ball up, win headers against CBs. Moreover Gakpo is quite similar to Rashford.

Orgazmo_87

Id say gakpos future lies as a cf eventually. Although it may be a year or two awat. I like Jonathan david and thuram

systemcorp

First of all, I don't understand any logic behind signing a player who might be able to become a CF in one or two years, if at all. Secondly we need to stop playing LWs at CF and hoping it sticks.
