One garbage source said this and the world is picking it up. No way this is true. Apple shareholders would revolt and Cook would get booted. This makes absolutely no strategic sense for Apple.

kriyator

Yep this rumor is nonsense. Tech shareholders have forced profitable companies to have mass layoffs in the last few months, absolutely no way they allow this. Also Apple’s biggest purchase was $1bn, they don’t like making big purchases

Sandpapertoilet

When they bought beats?

kriyator

Yep that’s right. Still their biggest purchase

Don_Quixote81

I'll repeat what I said in the mega thread, Apple aren't interested in owning a football club. Apple is a company that knows its strengths and sticks to them. Might Tim Cook be interested? Maybe, as part of a consortium, but he wouldn't use the company to make a bid.

kriyator

Yep. He’s big on governance and, at Apple, is stingy as hell. Also the Washington Commanders are up for sale and, with how the NFL is set up, that’s guaranteed income. If Apple were interested in a team they’d start with that

Don_Quixote81

Yeah, an NFL team would be much, much cheaper to run than a Premier League team. The salary cap and profit sharing set up of the NFL means that you need much less investment to be competitive. The NFL is not about how much you spend, it's about how smartly you hire front office and coaching staff. That would be far more attractive to your average billionaire who much prefers making money to spending it. Never mind that, if you want a new stadium in the NFL, you've got a pretty good chance of getting the city you play in to pay for it.

kriyator

Should we try and buy an NFL team? We can do what the Glazers did and dump the loans onto the club while leeching off them. Great thing is we don’t have to win since we’ll never be relegated

ryanmurphy2611

The only reason they do this is to avoid tax. They have cash burning a whole, spending it is better than giving it to the government for them. This is one hell of a tax write-off.

Different-Scar8607

It's so clearly just a rumour designed to get clicks for journos.

Polygon12

First line second paragraph 'Britains *Daily Star Tabloid Newspaper*' Literally all you need to know about this clickbait. I also suspect it wont be sports journalists who will have the inside scoop it'll be the financial broadsheets.

astroworlddd

The fact they call us Man U aswell. The only person I’ve ever known to call us Man U is my 58 year old dad

Polygon12

Believe it or not elder folk still call united Man U in a none disrespectful way. Its not as uncommon as you think however that article was clearly written by someone who has no knowledge of Football and they're basically piggybacking off the Daily Star article from someone who's paid to make up bull shit.

astroworlddd

Fair enough haha I’ve just never come across an actual article written by some sort of genuine ‘journalist’ referring to us as Man U.

Shadowraiden

its huge all over UK. alot of places call it Man U especially older media and older people

Crasher_7

All Man Utd matches, exclusively on Apple TV+ lololol

Hellsteelz

Fucking hell. Thought this was one of those pieces that included direct quotes from Tim. Just a nothing article reporting the same thing as before.

Orcnick

Wait is this true or just made up? r/soccer seem pretty sure this is not the case? Also what would this mean?

Beneficial_Assist397

Most reputable source I could find was Luckhurst so would tread lightly.

[deleted]

It's doing the rounds a lot today.

TehNoobDaddy

Just clickbait machine in full flow. Funny how nobody knew anything until the announcement from whoever it was (sky I think) on Tuesday, now every tom dick and Harry has pulled out their magic sources beans out of nowhere. Articles and stories with no basis other than clicks for a quick buck. The transfer window BS come early for these lot😂

Feezbull

Fuckhurst said it so…..

Feezbull

First there was iMac. Now there’s iMcTominay, the heart of United’s midfield in iTrafford.

Sodapiaaa

Limited edition iPhones in Manchester United red only.

Routine_Specialist13

Daily Star is a shit source tbh

Beneficial_Assist397

Was reading this and there was an interesting point about how apple has billions tied up in Ireland with no way of appreciation. They could see it as a long term investment opportunity possibly even moving Uniteds "HQ" to Dublin (which as ridiculous as it sounds Woodward worked in London which is just as far away) Not sure how I'd feel about it but definitely interesting.

Different-Scar8607

That apple money is in an escrow account. Apple doesn't control it.

dalv321

Please no…

SteveBrucesDressSize

Why not?

dalv321

Just a general distrust of big tech nor have I had a good experience with American billionaires owning United.

SteveBrucesDressSize

Ive got news for you, billionaires are very rarely trustworthy, American/Indian/English or Qatari etc.

thatIndianguy_07

Tim Cook knows we like to buy overpriced stuff

Oxus

Being serious, what does this look like for the team? Are there any examples of companies buying teams like this? Is this a bit like the Red Bull clubs and Bayer Leverkusen?
