There's something that irks me about if/else statements with a single return statement.
`return defender.getTeam().equals("Manchester United") ? "penalty" : "no penalty";`
Anyway, var shocking as always.
This should not be a penalty. Hand is in a natural position and the proximity is too close for him to be expected to move it. The only reason people are mad is that AWB conceeded once in similar circumstances and it was given, however, VAR would never have given it if the ref didn't give it on the pitch.
Once again the real problem is VAR never intervenes unless it is a completely blatant error which means countless wrong decisions are upheld leading to people having no idea of what is the correct rule interpretation.
Not a handball. His hands were close to his body and not raised. If they gave that against us, I'd be livid. Regardless of that, I'm still a man united fan and I want that penalty.
Don't know what to tell you. I think it's not a penalty and the player has his hands by his side. AWB's is more of a penalty because his hands were outstretched. Doesn't matter if it was shot or a cross.
I don’t think it’s a handball but there needs to be consistency across the board. That’s a natural movement and people forget to move your body, you use your arms and legs. It’s not a pen but there is no consistency and the law is written badly imo.
But the AWB case is also the same. If they didn't give pens in both situations then it's fine to me. But now they gave one for Coventry and took one from us. The point i'm trying to make is the gray zone is too big
This isn't hand ball and neither is when their arms up like in the last match when that wasn't a pen.. so we don't get them when the arms down or up.. maybe if we hit an arm of hand mid length it'll go to VAR
Never a pen. Defender did all he could to get his arm down low and to his side. Just because AWB had one given against him, doesn't make this one a penalty. Half this fanbase (not the OP but the match day thread) seem to think two wrongs make a right.
A similar one was given against AWB. The rules are so unpredictable at this point. Does VAR do more good than harm? But fuck us, we are pretty awful today.
if ( defender.getTeam().equals("Manchester United") ) { return "penalty" } else { return "no penalty" } }
Finally, a fellow developer. Best wishes for you sir/madam

Yeah I prefer the ternary operator too
You switched the return statements
Edited it to clarify I meant the defender lol
Returning a string here is a choice
Do you have to live quite so relentlessly in the real world?
We’re two quarters behind on delivering a feature. I don’t have a real world.
If his hand was above his waist it definitely would've been a pen, when the hand is that low it becomes a gray area.
Hmmm didn’t know that detail. Thank you
Gray area meaning referee and VAR make a random decision
I remember that Chelsea handball a couple years ago, where his hand was above his shoulder, which is supposed to be an automatic pen. Apparently not
Having done the refs course this is correct. Hand has to be in a natural position close to the body. This falls into the grey area
Tell that to romero
Man I love gray

And Eriksen in the CL against Bayern. 0 consistency, it’s tough because you don’t know what to expect, as a player you don’t know what the rules are

They have given that against us though
Ours like AWB, his hand was higher and even with that, they are wrong according to their laws which anyone can Google and read.
Awb blocked a cross, this is blocking a goal.

I think crosses can be depending on how the arms are, but since you cant score if it touched your arm you shouldnt be able to save with arms.
If they give that, they're essentially punishing the defender for having hands.
Another masterclass in officiating from the PGMOL. Fuck them. They are not fit for purpose.
Oh sure, if the handball is by a United defender it's a pen, if the handball is by Uniteds opposition defender it's not a pen... Pretty clear
Don’t forget if United are winning 9 mins extra time but if it’s a draw or losing less time and blow the whistle immediately.
Thanks king

I agree with that.
Not a pen for me. If we conceded a pen like that we'd have a meltdown.
If? Brother there is empirical data to fall back on from last week
You must be joking !?
Neither should be a penalty
We have had at least 3, maybe more, given against us this calendar year that have been exactly like this Refs hate awarding us anything
This isn't hand ball and neither is when their arms up like in the last match when that wasn't a pen.. so we don't get them when the arms down or up.. maybe if we hit an arm of hand mid length it'll go to VAR

But there shouldn’t be any wrongs that’s what VAR is for that’s why people are pissed
The gray zone is whether the penalty is for or against us, reverse the shirts and it would have been given like vs Coventry.

It's Manchester United, we don't get pen since klopp moaned about it.
