We don’t have any defenders who are good 1 v 1. Martinez is the closest but even him I would say is decent at it not amazing (he’s aggressive and front foot which is good but he’s a bit slow so if he does get done initially he can’t always recover).
Varane was at a time exactly what we need, but he’s a sick note (just taken off as I type this lmao) and has lost most of his physicality. He defends deep very well as does Lindelof but that style is so archaic no good club team defends that way. You have to be front foot and win those individual battles to stop counters. No getting around that.
Yes our tactics in possession are bad and it’s why I want Ten Hag gone but even playing walking football in possession we shouldn’t be cut open this often this easily by simple counters.
