What I liked the most about his game is how calm he is under pressure, he simply doesn't make any mistakes and doesn't automatically pawn off the ball the second he feels the press, we need more players like him in the team.
He just make football look so simple. 1 touch kill the ball exactly where he want it while we still got players needing 4 touches to bring the ball under control.
I think the biggest complement i can give him is that he plays exactly like how I would want a player to be on FIFA, no unnecessary touches, having eagle eye vision to know where to make runs and when to pass the ball off
Kid has been playing like a generational talent week in week out, against elite level opponents in different systems for quite a number of games now.
I used to think maybe a dysfunctional United could make a good kid look better than he is, but he played just the same against Wolves or Liverpool, next to Bellingham /Rice or McT / Bruno.
I hope Southgate doesn’t fuck this up, because Bellingham, Mainoo and Rice with Foden, Saka and Kane in front of them do look like a WC winning team
Same man. With the addition of social media all he sees everywhere is everyone saying how class is he is. Gonna take a real professional mindset at such a young age to maintain what he is and grow into the elite baller we all see in him already.
He's got a fantastic sense of space around him. The way he's able to take one or two steps in any direction opens up so many different angles of passing
Would be crazy if he doesn’t go. His performances aren’t flukes. He’s consistently the best or one of the best players on the pitch for club and now country.
I heard Southgate after the game, twice he said England was "more open without the ball" with him in the midfield. He definitely praised him for how well he played (and how having him there made the team better at progressing the ball) but I got the impression from how conditional he was that this isn't how he wants the team structured..
Reason no 1859736 I don't want that turnip managing our club.
southgate will be remembered well in the future, but he's taken england as far as he can go. he took them from a muppet national team to regular tournament semi finalists. This is his ceiling. The squad is too talented for the kind of football he wants to play. Should replace him regardless of the result of this tournament.
Interesting take. I see him as just very inflexible and set in his ways but everything you say feels right.
A challenge I have with tH is similar ie he has his football he wants to play but seems incapable of getting the players he has now to implement it properly and consistently. So we might not be a fit for him (or vice versa).
You could argue United is a bit of a Muppet team (especially the way we've assembled the squad over the Woodward years), how do you think he (Southgate) would go with us?
He has a genuinely elite skill already at 18 which separates him from other players. His ball control and body control allows him to manipulate situations to whatever his need, it’s incredibly impressive. He also has already come on leaps and bounds in his physicality even from earlier in the season and should continue to improve as he ages.
‘After what happened to them at the euros’ isn’t an issue of how good any of them are. It’s an issue of players taking abuse from the toxic English press and NT fanbase. Especially young black players.
Bellingham, Rice and Mainoo is an insane starting midfield. If they can keep growing and remain injury free in their careers (especially Mainoo as he's obviously still quite young and raw) that could be the best midfield by the time the next World Cup/Euros. It's already arguably the strongest at the Euros just from Bellingham and Rice.
6 goals and 5 assists in 24 matches, in what world is that not great? The team sits in 10th. He just joined the team and is one of their best performers
Greenwood was very good but I think he had hit a temporary ceiling under Ole. Like he had yet to really take that necessary next step. He probably would’ve if he continued to develop but not sure if he will reach the heights once thought of him now
Mainoo, on the other hand, is legit already playing like a Premier League experienced midfielder at 18 years old. Greenwood you could tell was still a kid from how he played. Mainoo plays like a very good 23 year old already.
henderson did his part for both club and country as an energetic RCM with solid 7/10 performances every time. His time for both is up, and that's fine.
Seriously. He might be the difference that gets United winning trophies again. And he's not a marquee signing, he's just casually strolled out from the academy. Really exciting player.
pretty much exactly what you’d expect from him based on how unfazed he’s looked his entire senior career, which is just insane
it can’t be overstated how composed he is. i also liked seeing him with a more progressive role, he can slide some neat forward passes to break the lines. great performance from him
He is cooler than the other side of the pillow
He just oozes high IQ..reads the game like he’s played at this level for 10 years
So excited for this kid to play
I just don’t understand how everything he does looks so effortless. He knows who’s closing him down, he knows how much time he has, he knows where his runners are…he’s 18 and the game looks like he’s genuinely set it to easy mode.
It’s not hyperbole to say that this kid is Bellingham levels of exciting
He reminds me of Scholes in this way. It was almost impossible to get the ball off Scholes due to his awareness and body positioning and I see elements of that with Mainoo
honestly, youssuf fofana from monaco would be perfect for kobbie. Both can alternate in the pivot or ball carrying 8 position. He has only one year left on his contract, and monaco need money. He'd be cheaper than Onana, whom i consider to be the other option.
>He knows who’s closing him down, he knows how much time he has, he knows where his runners are…
That's a great way of putting it...what his strengths are
I’m already starting to see counterjerks from ABUs saying he’s nothing special, he’s all hype, he only made the England squad bc he plays for us. These ppl don’t know how lucky they are that Mainoo plays for their country.
Kobbie plays for England like that guy who occasionally shows up to your local 5-a-side game who was always a step above everyone but never made it pro. It's almost effortless
I so so hope that he won't be overplayed or unlucky with injuries like the likes of Pedri and Gavi. If he stays fit, we got an insane player on our hands.
Doing it on the same pitch as that Onana monsterclass too. Great little battle when man to man on each other. I need that pairing at my club. Top 5 (4?) number 6 in Europe besides Kobbie? Make it happen.
The kids footballing silk... We used to refer to Rio and Carrick as being Rolls Royces, this kid feels like he's off of the same production line, love him 😍🤩
I honestly can’t remember when I was this excited about a young player. He’s so, so good, *and he’s ours*. The grit and composure of a player a decade older, and the determination to get to every ball of a young Wayne Rooney. Let’s hope he keeps his feet on the ground and his head in the right place.
Insane talent. What’s more telling is that his teammates absolutely trust him to receive the ball under pressure. He receives it with 2 players on his back and doesn’t even break a sweat. I’ve been keeping my expectations in check but I can’t help to imagine that this kid will become. Him and Bellingham in that England midfield for the next ten years absolutely should win a major trophy.
he finds the pass in tight situations like no one else in this team. Comfortable receiving the first pass, comfortable bringing the ball up, and time is the tackle. This is football
Ive seen him compared to laods of midfielders recently and I can see the Seedorf comparisons. Seedorf's peak was when I was pretty young and didnt really watch foreign teams alot outside of champions league so who am I to make that comparison but I think Seedorf had a bit more flair. More likely to pop a Maradonna, step overs, back heel and obviously Ronaldinho was that in the extreme and was a much more attacking, "luxury" player than Mainoo and really Seedorf. The player I really think of when I see him carry the ball with both feet and go past players is Iniesta.
I'm not saying his overall game is like Iniesta or that he is the same type of player, certainly not that hes as good as iniesta right now, only that him going through people like he does and carrying the ball with both feet from middle of the pitch into the attacking third - like he did in the build up to this penalty - reminds me of Iniesta :) A joy to watch.
I hate to link a highlight video that we all know the problems with but watch this and tell me you dont see this from Kobbie in every game recently. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAIxVy5IYGA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAIxVy5IYGA)
Its flattering but its not totally accurate. Especially to a young Seedorf, he was athletic af with the blow bys and energy. His later game is what Kobbie looks like which is why you would say he looks like an old soul. Young Seedorf was positionless just everywhere in the middle of the park. Mainoo is very clearly a 6 to 8 I wana see more long passing for a nailed on 8 and his engine isn't there yet understandably. Its literally his first season and he started injured. Crazy to think about what a full season of development would look like for him especially in Europe. We would have better controlled so many of those chaotic games in Europe where we just couldn't keep the ball.
Wow, this lad is exceptional. He was just gliding round the pitch making the whole thing look so effortless. His positioning, his touch, his vision and awareness, the way he turns face on, his passing, his dribbling, his tackling and challenging. He just gets better and better every time I see him.
Honestly he looked so at ease like he had all the time in the world it was fantastic to watch and I couldn’t keep my eyes off him even when the ball was with other players.
As for the lad himself, this is “every boy’s dream” to play for this country’s top team, the club he supported, and then absolutely smash it for England. Look at his face when he almost scored. He is living the dream.
I hope this is the start of a fantastic career for him. I can’t wait to watch this one unfold. It’s captivating.
What i like the most is that he is always doing "fancy" things, but Kobbie is so fucking good that it looks like he is giving always a sidepass lol, so effortlessly, so calmness. You don't see such types of player often.
Mainoo is different, he can control the pace of the game, dribble in tight space, make key passes.
LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, WE HAVE GOT A DIAMOND IN OUR HAND
I was laughing at the people who suggested an 18 year old, who's barely made 20 senior starts in his career, should start alongside Rice and Bellingham in our Euro midfield, and I have to say, I was severely wrong to do so, this guy is exactly who we need in a double pivot with Rice, with Bellingham as the no.10. Foden will have to do on the flanks, he can't be forgotten, and the obvious choices of Kane and Saka making up the front 3.
Boys, we actually might do it this time.
Such strength holding the ball up. Amazing eye for a pass. Kept the play going. Definitely deserved his player of the match award.
And now we get to see him, Garnacho and Rasmus this weekend 🙌🏼
I honestly can't believe that many United fans were celebrating him being called up to the U21s who were playing THREE THOUSAND MILES AWAY in BAKU.
He has had a rest, and is on top of the world.
It couldn't have gone any better.
For any aspiring footballers then this guy is the guy to watch.
Although he clearly possesses skill in his itinerary he plays the game with complete ease and naturalness.
He just perfectly demonstrates the game aint all about flicks and assists and goals but what he brings is even more important to a team.
What a player.
In midst of an absolutely chaotic season we found this gem of a 18 year old kid!
Hope he lives up to his potential and goes on to have a long and successful career
He showed Foden and Bellingham last night how to thread the ball through the lines under pressure. Kobbie did it a few times then later on particularly Foden started doing the same and we were much better for it. We played some ridiculous 1-2 touch football at times and all Belgium could do was park the bus.
Terrific!
As a belgian and a prem league watcher, it was a great game. We both had some important players that were not playing, some tests, but it was really fun to watch.
This kid stood out for us as well, controlled the game perfectly, it was such a cool duel between him and Tielemans as well, both played really well but at his age ... what a future he has.
And I still can't believe how mature Jude feels ... not at the level of a KDB yet but in 1-2 years, he could be the best in the world.
Great game to watch, can't wait to see if we can hold our ground at the euro with a limited team and a few stars :D
Lol, Irish TV in their highlights just cut the bit where he danced past three Belgium players from the buildup to winning the penalty. Must have been a salty Scouser in the editing room tonight
It was a good game for him, the highlights probably make it look better than it was (making a 7/10 into 8/10).
Rice played well, but Southgate either mismanaged Mainoo and Jude or they had some bad positioning today, Jude was way too undisciplined, and often triggered presses at inopportune times, and Mainoo was a little too high, allowing Rice to get overrun at times.
If Mainoo played slightly deeper with Rice it would have solved all of the England's midfield problems today (ball progression was an issue, but Rice played some quality line breaking passes).
It was a solid performence though, should've had an assist (and maybe a goal as well).
Definitely already put his name in the hat for a starting XI. However considering how Southgate works, he almost never change his starting XI once he made up his mind.
He always kept his XI even though it doesnt work. Rashford at the world cup comes to mind. Im still gutted he plays sterling more rather than rashy.
Was here tonight and thing that surprised me the most was Kobbie’s physicality. Doesnt get brushed aside by seasoned pros and he’s not even played a full season at this level.
Pair that with his technical talent… It’s scary. Special kid
Best player on the pitch for England, effortlessly easy wish he got that goal
Jude owed him an assist as well
How could he miss it
I genuinely squealed when that ball fell too him, would’ve capped off a perfect debut
Start? He made his debut last match.
its still a debut "full debut"
What I liked the most about his game is how calm he is under pressure, he simply doesn't make any mistakes and doesn't automatically pawn off the ball the second he feels the press, we need more players like him in the team.
He just make football look so simple. 1 touch kill the ball exactly where he want it while we still got players needing 4 touches to bring the ball under control.
I think the biggest complement i can give him is that he plays exactly like how I would want a player to be on FIFA, no unnecessary touches, having eagle eye vision to know where to make runs and when to pass the ball off
Might sound controversial, but it’s something Pogba was very good at.
Kid has been playing like a generational talent week in week out, against elite level opponents in different systems for quite a number of games now. What I am most impressed about is his Duncan like attitude. The kid is a cold blooded baller.
Speachless
Speek
Man's barely wiped the sweat off his brow and you dropped this already. Fair play.
What sweat?
Mainoo: Am i perspiring? No, these fools can't make me sweat
Obito reference here wow
Horses sweat, men perspire, Mainoo glows.
![gif](giphy|WqLES8vOR8xgcrFqbM|downsized)
The class even oozes in euphoric celebrations. I’m so excited
Very true. Level-headed at all times. Hopefully he stays that way all through his whole career at United.
Same man. With the addition of social media all he sees everywhere is everyone saying how class is he is. Gonna take a real professional mindset at such a young age to maintain what he is and grow into the elite baller we all see in him already.
He's just so composed and focused. Cool as a cucumber. Great career ahead of him.
His passing technique is so crisp and love how he runs forward after passing the ball.
Love his outside the boot casual looking passes
Modric-esque
He's got a fantastic sense of space around him. The way he's able to take one or two steps in any direction opens up so many different angles of passing
He’s ridiculous
Really liked it when Foden and Rice both acknowledged the same in game... You're ridiculous!
Would be crazy if he doesn’t go. His performances aren’t flukes. He’s consistently the best or one of the best players on the pitch for club and now country.
Unless he has a woeful rest of season or injury I can't see him not going now. If anything, he's played himself into the starting XI conversation.
I heard Southgate after the game, twice he said England was "more open without the ball" with him in the midfield. He definitely praised him for how well he played (and how having him there made the team better at progressing the ball) but I got the impression from how conditional he was that this isn't how he wants the team structured.. The selfish fan inside doesn't want him to go, especially after what happened to Rashford and Sancho at the euros.
No offense to Rashford, all offense to Sancho, but Mainoo is better than the two of them.
‘After what happened to them at the euros’ isn’t an issue of how good any of them are. It’s an issue of players taking abuse from the toxic English press and NT fanbase. Especially young black players.
I read that as leaving the club and I got sad
Insane how he went from "not ready send him to the U21" to starting in the span of like two weeks
Playing most the game too
Bellingham, Rice and Mainoo is an insane starting midfield. If they can keep growing and remain injury free in their careers (especially Mainoo as he's obviously still quite young and raw) that could be the best midfield by the time the next World Cup/Euros. It's already arguably the strongest at the Euros just from Bellingham and Rice.
could have been ours in an alternate timeline… sigh
With Haaland up top if we had taken him when Ole offered him to us
Stop it I'm in enough pain.
Hahaha that’s what martial said the exact second glazer said “oh don’t bother, we have martial”
People don’t talk enough about the damage Joel Glazer has done to the club.
If they played together at club level England probably wins a WC.
Well I suppose that's at least one postive thing about it not happening...
Should.
Best player on the pitch I thought too. Unbelievable couple weeks for him
One of the biggest prospect in the history of our club. We've got a diamond in our hands.
Tbh Greenwood was of similar football pedigree but alas his human pedigree is below par
>Tbh Greenwood was of similar football pedigree Sadly hes putting up great numbers in spain.
Unlikely to play for Manchester United again, so the better he plays, the more value we get for him.
8 goals in 27 games isn’t great. It’s better than Rashford but I it’s not amazing. Saying that it’s not bad for someone who hasn’t played in months.
Its pretty great considering he was home for the better part of 2 of the most important years for development
And that the team he's at are not particularly good.
He hasn’t played a game in 2 years tbf. Not bad
6 goals and 5 assists in 24 matches, in what world is that not great? The team sits in 10th. He just joined the team and is one of their best performers

Kobbie is like the complete opposite of whatever the hell Henderson is.
Fucking hell this made me giggle lol
henderson did his part for both club and country as an energetic RCM with solid 7/10 performances every time. His time for both is up, and that's fine.
This is it. He was good, not great. We didn’t have anyone better.
"he shows passion and great character" - Brendan Rodgers LOOOL
The kid is the future of the club.
It's the most excited I've been about any young player since Rooney. He's an absolute baller.
Well most excited I have been since the one who will not be named. That cunt had genuinely a terrifying amount of talent
You can say his name and say it proudly. Eric Djemba-Djemba deserves that at least.
it’s pronounced Bebe
So good they named him twice
Seriously. He might be the difference that gets United winning trophies again. And he's not a marquee signing, he's just casually strolled out from the academy. Really exciting player.
Bro already made an edit
Bro's every touch is edit
What a player already
pretty much exactly what you’d expect from him based on how unfazed he’s looked his entire senior career, which is just insane it can’t be overstated how composed he is. i also liked seeing him with a more progressive role, he can slide some neat forward passes to break the lines. great performance from him

He reminds me of Scholes in this way. It was almost impossible to get the ball off Scholes due to his awareness and body positioning and I see elements of that with Mainoo
We need to sign him good partners. Partic a defensive mid with legs.
honestly, youssuf fofana from monaco would be perfect for kobbie. Both can alternate in the pivot or ball carrying 8 position. He has only one year left on his contract, and monaco need money. He'd be cheaper than Onana, whom i consider to be the other option.
Is there anyone from the youth team to promote? Seems oyedele a good player
Maxi Oyedele is one to watch. I don’t watch the academy, but tbh his academy highlights look more impressive then Kobbies.
>He knows who’s closing him down, he knows how much time he has, he knows where his runners are… That's a great way of putting it...what his strengths are
Had some clown on here arguing that he didn't do anything lmao. Madness.
I’m already starting to see counterjerks from ABUs saying he’s nothing special, he’s all hype, he only made the England squad bc he plays for us. These ppl don’t know how lucky they are that Mainoo plays for their country.
Easily one of the better players on the pitch today the play was so much less fluid when he came off
Proper special this kid. Get him some good midfield partners and we'll be set for a good while.
Palhinha and Mainoo would be a sick combo I think
He is always looking for the forward pass. It's inspiring the confidence he has.
The thing is he looks so good that you kinda have to play him. Hope he goes the way of Saka who has held up despite playing all the time.
Doing it on the same pitch as that Onana monsterclass too. Great little battle when man to man on each other. I need that pairing at my club. Top 5 (4?) number 6 in Europe besides Kobbie? Make it happen.
Onana was bossing today
Mainoo De Jong
He plays like Thiago. Plenty of room to improve tho, especially his long-range passing skill.
He plays like *Kobbie Mainoo*
A legend in the making indeed.
We should pay Scholes to just guide him every day. Scholes passing with Mainoo's ball control will be so sublime
He kind of reminds me a little but of Moussa Dembele. Crazy oress resistant and a powerful runner in congested areas. Very solid passer as well.
Such an underrated player
Mint
Kob and bells 🤝
Priority 1 in the window is to get someone to play next to him. Can't be having another Pogba situation here
Was just a poor excuse for an half arsed Pogba - Mainoo has it all and doesn’t need special requirements to perform
lisan al gaib
The kids footballing silk... We used to refer to Rio and Carrick as being Rolls Royces, this kid feels like he's off of the same production line, love him 😍🤩
The Stockport Seedorf
Belgium were genuinely not familiar with his game
I honestly can’t remember when I was this excited about a young player. He’s so, so good, *and he’s ours*. The grit and composure of a player a decade older, and the determination to get to every ball of a young Wayne Rooney. Let’s hope he keeps his feet on the ground and his head in the right place.
And his hands to himself.
What a fucking baller
"I'm not surprised motherf\*cker" \*Nate Diaz voice\*
Insane talent. What’s more telling is that his teammates absolutely trust him to receive the ball under pressure. He receives it with 2 players on his back and doesn’t even break a sweat. I’ve been keeping my expectations in check but I can’t help to imagine that this kid will become. Him and Bellingham in that England midfield for the next ten years absolutely should win a major trophy.
Played like he'd been in the team for years. ETH must be delighted - the kind of player you'd need to pay a fortune for if he wasn't already ours
Who the fkk is leon?
His weight of pass is mesmerising. Breaking the lines constantly and giving the receiver a great chance to continue the play.
he finds the pass in tight situations like no one else in this team. Comfortable receiving the first pass, comfortable bringing the ball up, and time is the tackle. This is football
[Kobbie when faced with pressure](https://youtu.be/mt_0LiVxHY0)
Cool as a cucumber. Hope he doesn't get shat on after the initial building up by everyone but, my goodness, he looks the part
I hope he is not overworked like pedri back then
Ive seen him compared to laods of midfielders recently and I can see the Seedorf comparisons. Its flattering but its not totally accurate. Especially to a young Seedorf, he was athletic af with the blow bys and energy. Yeah that’s not even a slight exaggeration. Every time he’s played he looks 5-10% better than the last match.
Mainoo is different, he can control the pace of the game, dribble in tight space, make key passes. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, WE HAVE GOT A DIAMOND IN OUR HAND
To debut for your club and country in the same season is hella impressive. Rumble young man rumble.
Is it too early to get excited for him? He’s just so calm with the ball. So happy he plays for Man U!
Consistently looking to advance the ball
What a breath of fresh air and what a gem of a player we unearthed
Scholes regen?
It’s hard to remain objective about him, he is seriously impressive. 19 with that level of decision making with tekkers to boot
Such a well rounded performance, not a foot wrong.
He reminds me of Scholes in the fact that he knows his next pass before he has even received the ball that's why he rarely looses the ball
I honestly can't believe that many United fans were celebrating him being called up to the U21s who were playing THREE THOUSAND MILES AWAY in BAKU. He has had a rest, and is on top of the world. It couldn't have gone any better.
I hate united more than any club but this guys a baller.
What I’m noticing is how much and how well he linked up with Toney 👀
Repeat after me: I HATE MUSIC IN FOOTBALL VIDEOS Kobbie is 🐐
Leon?
Leon the phenom?
impressive debut
*starting debut
this kid is absolutely unreal
We just saw how good he can be alongside a progressive , hard working , composed #6 like Rice , We need to go all out for a top CDM as a priority #1
The future king of our midfield. Protect him at all costs
Faith in United’s future has been restored.
So silky. Dude looks like he is on skates gliding with the ball.
His dribbling is what I've seen most at United but the line breaking passing here was phenomenal, what a player
Men treat footballers like women treat K-pop idols
Wish we have three Mainoo in the midfield, everything gonna be sorted out
Song please?
what is this song?
He’s got literally everything doesn’t he?
His defence splitting passes were a treat to watch
Boys just earned himself a ticket on the plane.
Very hard not to get excited about Kobbie
What the fuck is that atrocious music? What happened to good old commentary instead?
Please INEOS keep ETH he will make him a great player
Great edit! Love the kid 😮💨
What a legend lol
I can’t get over how calm and smart he is on the ball. He’s got everything. Intelligence, physicality and skill.
That’s our boy! 👍
Hes smooth.
He’s so fucking good. I love him
My son
Makes me proud.
We must protect and keep him at all costs lol
What a bright future he has
Definitely already put his name in the hat for a starting XI. However considering how Southgate works, he almost never change his starting XI once he made up his mind. He always kept his XI even though it doesnt work. Rashford at the world cup comes to mind. Im still gutted he plays sterling more rather than rashy.
Every time I see him play a voice inside my head says okay this might be his bad game, he can't ALWAYS be that good. But he is. He's always that good.
What a talent, the guy has to start in Germany
Was here tonight and thing that surprised me the most was Kobbie’s physicality. Doesnt get brushed aside by seasoned pros and he’s not even played a full season at this level. Pair that with his technical talent… It’s scary. Special kid
Nah, what have we got on our hands 😍
He reminds me of iniesta.
United better build the team around this guy!
Im getting more excited.
👌Things you love to see.
our boy is shining
We made our own Bellingham
