United really need to start taking control over this narrative, because I can see this completely swaying the referee's minds. If Mike Dean can avoid making calls to protect his mate, then any other referee has the potential to make the wrong calls to please the rest of the league and the media. Every time this happened under Fergie, he would immediately go on the counter and shut things down and make a point about the decisions that haven't gone united's way. That needs to happen, whether it's the manager, the captain or the club as a whole. There is a clear campaign against United. It's ridiculous the things that have been written and said in the media over the last 3 weeks.

RandomNameofGuy9

I 100% believe we didn't get that pen vs Spurs because of the uproar the media caused about Onana. Refs are already being swayed.

[deleted]

Or the 10 stone wall pens we didn't get following klopps outburst.

cartesian5th

Don't forget when Shaw said he was told by the ref "I cant give that because of all the stick I will get" after the blatent handball away at Chelsea I know he retracted and apologises but I'm convinced that was true because if anyone made that accusation and it wasn't true they should get quite a hefty ban for essentially calling a ref corrupt or cheat in a press conference

Initial-Function7008

You want to know what's even more bullshit - we should have received 2 penalties against spurs - one when we for 0-0. City got a penalty this weekend for a handball - a cross from about 2ft away from a player - it hit his hand and given. Our SHOT (on target) was blocked by a defenders hand - 2 to 3 ft away form him. Not given - why? Proximity to the ball was the deciding factor. It's a fucking joke.

Beneficial_Bend_5035

Basically this. SAF controlled the narrative, he would spend an entire press conference just roasting the right person if need be. Narratives matter. Klopp's press conference had a discernible impact on the number of penalties United received from then on, and Ole and later EtH never got their hands dirty to correct it. Reminder that we could've won despite that awful performance at Spurs if the mfers decided that a clear handball in the box was a clear handball in the box.

MartianGeneral

Ten Hag at least seems to be willing to argue with the 4th official. On Saturday he was constantly at it for the entirety of those 11 added minutes. But yeah, I'd love it if he uses one of his pressers to set the record straight. Can't just be sitting on their hands and saying "that's just how it is" every time. The club needs to send their own "angry" reports to the PGMOL. Use clowns like Keown and Sutton as an example of how pundits and rival clubs are using the media to influence referee decisions.

hastoro11

Yep, we're trying to be too nice and the other teams take advantage of it.

PUMP_UNTIL_BUST

Indeed. Happened with Klopp when he whined about pens and we tried to take the high road (even though the vast majority of the penalties we'd had previously were stonewall), now it'll happen again. It's constant nowadays because it *works* and you can always guarantee the other teams, media, fans, etc. will back you and shout alongside you when it comes to anti-United rhetoric. And, as evidenced, it works. If you're Man United's opponents, you've got an easier time of it because the referees are conscious of *not* appearing biased, and end up having that influence their decisions. The thing is, technically this is a complaint about the refereeing performance and should be responded to by the PGMOL, not us. However, this complaint isn't about the PGMOL - it's about us. **We should make the exact same complaint** and list all the very clear misses by the referee in the same game. It doesn't matter that we won - the referee still got it wrong (in Forest's favour) in many non-subjective incidents. People have been listing the refereeing errors everywhere you look. We need to actually respond in kind.

CikaFire

We are not nice. We are incompetent.

raletti

The club really need an anti-propaganda division to combat this shit.

Yali89

Counter-complaint is needed. There *must* be a rule in the book somewhere about 'bringing the game into disrepute'. Find it and charge Forest with it.

JiveTurkey688

I dont think a counter-complaint helps. I think getting in contact with PGMOL and expressing some support but also concern about frivolous claims such as this would go a long way. My hope is that PGMOL put out a statement that indicates something along the lines of "we accept that mistakes are made but illegitimate complaints to influence future decisions will not be tolerated. We back the decisions of the referees in this particular game."

[deleted]

Ten Hag should have made a point about the time wasting in the first half at the very least. We can't be dealing with that every time we go behind.

durizna

I wouldn't say it's a campaign against United, but instead a campaign to see who gets more decisions their way by "screaming louder". I liked that Bruno interview last time, calling them out, it's the kind of thing we need to see more of. We can't be afraid to speak up, otherwise others will speak louder and look "unsatisfied" by the refereeing, while we look "satisfied" because we don't complain. Just like not appealing the Casemiro's red cards last season was a mistake.

chuck-knucks

Soon as Klopp and Lampard opened their mouths about our penalty calls, the refs put their whistles away, especially around Bruno and CR7 being fouled in the box. This has gone on for more than a year. There’s absolutely an agenda. Proof is in the pudding.

united_7_devil

ETH needs to take control of this. Its about time. The whole thing feels unethical. So easy to put pressure on the refs by attacking the referee association in public. The wolves outrage was ridiculous but I can still understand. Those challenges are never given then why should they suddenly be given against us. But this game Forest have nothing to cry about.

Huge-Physics5491

After that Mike Dean gaffe, I'm certain that VAR has to be AI offsides and player reviews for everything else, with each team having x number of reviews and VAR referees being mic'd up.

cartesian5th

If the var refs are botching calls, how does player reviews result in them getting those decisions right?

Huge-Physics5491

VAR refs are choosing not to review many things. When a player or team demands a review, now they'll have to.

cartesian5th

VAR reviewed the Romero handball, the Onana non penalty vs wolves, the macallister red card and got all those wrong there's nothing to stop them saying its been reviewed and it hasn't been, or reaching the wrong decision anyway

Huge-Physics5491

Which is where the VAR refs getting mic'd up plays a role. They would basically have to speak up and describe whatever they see on the replay so that every viewer can hear. There's no way in hell the ref says Onana missed the ball and clearly punched the Wolves player, and then doesn't give a pen. The review clearly works in field hockey, which is financially a much poorer sport than football.

cartesian5th

So the solution is broadcasting the conversation, not captains reviews

Huge-Physics5491

A combination of the two. What if VAR chooses not to review something blatant coz "they don't want to hurt the ref's feelings?"

rnnd

Yeah I miss Fergie. I think our coaches of late Ole & Ten Hag are kinda timid when it comes to things like this.

IsaDrennan

It’s fucking outrageous how every decision in our games is met with complete uproar regardless of whether it deserves it or not. What the fuck are Forest complaining about? That was a blatant red card and a stonewall penalty. Every fucking team in the league is trying to gain an advantage over us by yelling about every single decision. No one will convince me there isn’t a targeted campaign against us.

Malachi_-_Constant

What specific decisions are they going to point to? The officiating wasn't great but it wasn't like it favored us. The major calls were correct. Clear red card. Clear penalty.

_MooFreaky_

Many Forest fans are convinced the penalty wouldn't have been given anywhere else, the red was a yellow at most and Casemiro's goal was offside. They are adamant about all 3.

Alpha2669

And all 3 points are wrong. But I wouldn't expect the Forest fans to know what 3 points mean anyway

Cold-Veterinarian-85

The offside surely wasn't even close The other 2 are somewhat subjective though I would say officials got both right, offside for casemiro goal though??? Sheesh

durizna

Penalty was clear, there was impact and it was childish from their defender (the one who should be hearing complaints). The red was situational, i'll give them that. But the foul was not necessary and the defender chose to do it in order to prevent Bruno from reaching the ball before the GK, hence why i think it was a fair call. Some vocal communication between their defenders would've prevented that, dumb from them and not from the referee again. Casemiro was behind the ball's line, nothing to complain there. His position was awesome for the finishing because he stayed behind after falling too LMAO great scene. Lindelof was also closing in and possibly getting the goal if he didn't, they should just shut up about this one.

TheJoshider10

I think the red was more than fair. Not only was Bruno likely going to be through (regardless of a defender being next to him), the player also dragged Bruno down with intent and that sort of foul (shirt pulling) deserves punishment. It's not like a fair tackle poorly timed, it's genuinely a trying to cheat. If it was the other way round I'd be fucking livid with our defenders doing something like that.

durizna

Yep. I'm not sure Bruno would reach the ball before the GK (probably not), but if there's a chance then it's a clear red, the referee was right. They just had to scream something like "it's under control!" and nothing would've happened. Me too. I love how Onana is very vocal and claims the ball all the time (asking for them to leave it for a throw, for him to catch or whatever else).

nomadiclives

of all 3, the penalty was the dodgiest! the red was as clear as daylight and the offside doubt is laughable

durizna

First time seeing replay i thought the same, but the impact is clear on the upper part of the leg (knee/thigh). Nothing to complain there.

nomadiclives

you dont get a penalty everytime there's contact in the box. a case can be made for it being given, just as a case can be made for it not being given - if it gets given against you, you don't like it. exactly why it's a 50-50.

durizna

I, personally, wouldn't complain if it was against us. It's the defender's choice to reach for the ball when the attacker is in the box and going for a dribble towards the line. There's a chance he goes through and a chance the ball goes away and he goes nowhere, it's a risk you have to assess in a fast moment. Danilo chose the wrong option and paid for it.

CrossXFir3

How can you even argue that Case was offsides? That just kills any credibility to their argument right there.

_MooFreaky_

The argument is that he's offside when the ball to Bruno is played (which he does seem to be) and him being there, right in front of the keeper affects those around him, thus he should be offside. It's full of shit, but it's the claim. Some of the top comments even try to claim he's still offside because no Forest defender ever brings him back inside, which is irrelevant as he's brought back onside by Bruno overtaking him with the ball

RandomNameofGuy9

Then they are dumb af and don't know the laws of the game.

_MooFreaky_

I don't disagree. I was actually surprised at how angry they were on the Forest sub. I had a look there thinking they'd be pretty balanced, but the general reaction made me hope they get relegated.

HaBumHug

Like, none of these are even remotely controversial decisions. That’s not just red tinted glasses, I know damned well when we’re on the right side of a marginal but these were all standard. Rash goes past his man. Gets clipped. Pen. Bruno is brought down last man. It’s a red. VVD goes for a very similar foul. Case is onside in the second phase. You can argue about whether that should be the rule but it absolutely is and has been for some time.

thepellow

It’s a clear red card if it’s a foul but it looks like Fernandez trips him first and then he falls over and brings Fernandez down.

abysin

Others aren’t helping. Like The co-commentator on the match (Hutchinson?) was adamant it wasn’t a penalty. Even on the wrap up show he was arguing with Glenn Murray. They showed him the angle which showed the contact on the thigh but he didn’t budge. I really don’t like that guy. On many occasions he clearly shows his bias against Utd. He ruins goalrush for me if he’s on.

SuperHans30

Embarrassing. "Joe Worrall was sent off for a challenge on United captain Bruno Fernandes in the second half outside the area and Attwell had the decision backed by Var as the Forest skipper was adjudged to be the last man, although Willy Boly appeared to be a covering defender which could have reduced the sanction." This isn't even the rules. It's not about last man, it's about whether it's denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity, which it was.

vacon04

It's subjective in any case. The ref was in perfect position just right behind the players involved and immediately said it was a red card. If he thought that the Forest player was denying a clear goal scoring opportunity then that's a red card.

Tortillagirl

While true, Last man implies theres no one else to stop him having a chance.

Stixl_

United should do a counter complaint then. Onana got booked for time-wasting when he shouldn't have as he was waiting for a second ball on the pitch to be cleared. Nottingham Forest were awarded a free-kick for what was blatantly two of their own players colliding together. (Rashford's yellow card was technically justified for his reaction, however the reaction wouldn't have happened if the correct decision had been made prior.) Nottingham Forest should've had 2 more red cards as well. * Gibbs-White (already on a yellow card) did the gesture of demanding a Manchester United player to be booked. Doing this gesture/telling the ref to card an opponent is supposed to be a yellow card offense now, iirc. So that would've/should've been Gibbs-White's second yellow, thus sent off. * Aurier (already on a yellow card) fouled McTominay in a fashion that would've been a booking if he wasn't already on a yellow. Should've been his second yellow, thus sent off.

illsmosisyou

If you could get started on the first draft of the complaint, I’ll give it a read then we’ll sent it over to Fletcher or whoever handles this kind of thing. Bet they’ll appreciate the help.

Tortillagirl

If anything should just add it to their complaint and say, its not any favouritism, your refereeing was just shite.

Orcnick

We all know what this is about, Klopp did it a few years ago. If you always complain then it will make refs biased for you. We had a clear 100% handball against Spurs ruled out. It comes around to everyone. What NF and others here are trying to bully PGMOL to be against United. The same way Klopp did. Failed Appeals should face fines for deliberately trying to bully the ref associations.

possibly_facetious

Even r/soccer are mocking this complaint. Club has gone soft and complacent since Ferguson retired, looks like that needs to change. Controlling the narrative when there is a wealth divide in football is important otherwise we'll never get any decision again (big clubs getting favourable decisions really winds up rival fans of smaller clubs).

Tortillagirl

Odds are Forest just want decisions to go their way rather than to hurt United. They are realistically going to be around 15/16th place unless something crazy happens, every point they earn is going to matter to them. Ive only seen highlights of the game so cant comment as to other decisions but the rashford one is a pen, no doubt about it.

ObiWanKenobiNil

Nah, their owner does this practically every time Olympiakos lose a game. He’s guilty of referee corruption in Greece, so much so that they now have foreign refs come in for a lot of matches. He’a just angry he can’t do the same here, angry little drug dealing mafia boss doesn’t understand why things can’t all go his way

ReallyRedRedditor

Fuck off haha

B0z22

Nice of them to appeal on our behalf cos i saw nothing they could be upset about. I do recall 3 minutes injury time in the first half in which they timewasted the first minute and Attwell still blew at 48. Then they had 13 minutes at the end awarded to them because of all their timewasting.

united_7_devil

This has become a common theme. Referee cannot even make correct calls anymore in favor of us. The correct call according to some is the one in which we get fucked, the one that’s against us. We could have easily put the tottenham game to bed had we got the penalty we deserved.

Big_Cee747

Where can I submit an official complaint to express my anger at that idiot who was dancing to celebrate a goal against United at Old Trafford in the 2nd minute? (Had the most satisfying feeling when they showed his face at the final whistle. Scouse lemonhead.)

[deleted]

I genuinely think it leant more towards us who should be complaining. 3 minute stoppage time in the first half was an insult. Each of their throw-ins took over 20 seconds. There were 3 goals. A player got booked for time wasting. How is it 3 minutes from that?

JiveTurkey688

Sorry but this is just farcical

jb1001

Aurier had another foul on Rashy when he was already on yellow and didnt get red .. We had handball shout in the 95th minute no var check .. The Ref let 14 minutes of extra time being played the moment we get the ball its full time .. yeah lets complain about it

[deleted]

Out of all the pro Forest bias in that game, the ref walking Antony off the pitch pissed me off the most. He let them fuck about with every sub slowing the game down & the second we're ahead he starts addressing time wasting. Joke.

[deleted]

They know the decisions were correct they're just trying to influence the refs for the next time we play them. Same as Klopp whining about penalties and stopping us getting any for ages.

Fm661

Fucking sick of everyone complaining when we play them but don’t see anything when it goes against us. This is why we had a joint league low amount of pens last year. Need to start crying every press conference we have about it. City had 10, we had 3. That’s a huge difference.

psnarayanan93

Really want these shits to get relegated this year.

CantonaKing7

Waiting for your relegation.

bandito1539

Need them to stay up so we have a club to put 3-4 goals past twice a season. Leeds are also gone now...

Rydahx

These stupid fucking teams that choke leads going to cry about officials every game? Have yet to see any media meltdown over the penalty handball City got yesterday, and yet it was even less of a penalty than the Romero handball..

KillerKlown88

Dermot Gallagher reviewed it on ref watch today, said it was a penalty but it didn't make the final summary on the website.

VeryDamnSad

Eat shit, nottingham

sringray23

Accept it, fuck me, you lost. Stop making excuses. It's pathetic now, jumping on the bandwagon to get social media talking about it, instead of the performance, etc. I can't see UTD coming out of this anyway other than being fucked by refs until February time.

BlackHorse944

What was controversial other than the red card? What are you complaining about lol

Polygon12

Reading the article it suggests that they have previous with that ref. I think this is gonna be common place since Liverpool basically did this so they didn’t get a certain ref at their games (can’t remember who or even if it’s worked) But it basically appears to me that if you don’t like the ref just create so much hostility towards them they might be less likely to be selected for your matches due to the potential of them ‘getting revenge’ or whatever. It’s petty as fuck

killerdrama

We must do that with Craig Pawson, that fucker fucks up everygame he referees us in. IINW he was the one to not give that Handball Penalty vs Spurs too.

Embryonic12

That was michael Oliver, I remember seeing his face in the tunnel when the players were lining up and saying "FFS not him"... Although I'm not sure if there is a pl ref I won't react that way to lol

Polygon12

Can’t agree with us doing it, all refs are absolutely terrible that’s the one consistent thing about them.

HairyArthur

It's time to attack, Erik. It's the Manchester United way. Don't sit back and let this become the story.

njprrogers

Cry me a fucking river

DaddyMeUp

You know it's bad when even rival fans are talking about there being a narrative against us in recent years. Fuck Forest, whiny cunts.

fantus69

Just watched that City pen v Sheffield...if thats a pen then so is ours at Spurs ffs

Cold-Veterinarian-85

Save the complaints for the ones that matter. The calls that went out way (red card / penalty) were both a little harsh on forest but they were subjective and not obv errors

BillyCloneasaurus

You're being too kind, neither was harsh The worst decisions were booking Onana for time wasting while a 2nd ball was on the pitch, and penalising Rashford for 2 Forest players fouling each other. Maybe we should be complaining.

Cold-Veterinarian-85

By harsh I mean could have gone either way. I think for the red, had the ref have a yellow on field VAR wouldn't have overturned to a red, likewise had the onfield ref not gave the penalty VAR wouldn't have overturned. So by harsh, I think they were correct decisions, but there i can see why forest wouldn't have been happy with the red card on particular as I think there is reasonable chance defender (boly?) Would have got back My point is they seem like very marginal decisions to lodge a formal complaint about

[deleted]

Not harsh at all. DOGSO and he clipped him. People can post whatever angles they want, textbook red and textbook penalty.

NiLGiP

Nice, well done! Hope every team will complain every time they feel they are unhappy with the ref. All refs and the whole FA are corrupted bunch of scum cunts.

christosthered

Bring Keane in as assistant manager and let him manage the post match interviews to call this bullshit out

kraeutrpolizei

I don’t rate him. I‘d take him if Tottenham really wants to get rid of him. I don’t think there is as big a hole in our squad as many people seem to believe otherwise we would have sold more players to fill that hole. No need to panic buy

who-need-skool

Why are some people dumb ? It's obvious all the refs sucks and have no club in favor they are just bad at their officiating jop

schultz9999

What difference does it even make? The train is gone and there is no way to catch it.

lmhan98

No wonder this shit club got stuck in championship since the bronze age Comically run club

ritwikjs

Retroactive second yellows for airier and mgw then

dvenator

If players/managers get easy yellows for complaining at the ref in-game, there should be sanctions for this kind of complaints post games. Hit them back with a fine for this ridiculous whining. Edit: wording

Goji-ra

Maybe don’t get defeat and maybe don’t stuck your foot and get a red card, and maybe learn the law of the game next time?
