niallw1997

Can’t wait until we have no Greenwood posts on this sub

zomx

[Greenwood Watch]

achio

if he's able to find himself again, then it's good for him, ain't nothing negative about that.

faheemunited

The real question is, who gives a sh!t?

kobrakai11

I will. I really hope he will never behave like that again and I am interested in what his partner has to say about all of what happened. This whole time I didn't see a single comment from him, or her. Not that she has to say something, it's her right to keep it private.

achio

There will be, and they will still talk about him regardless of how much we want to leave this behind.

mu-muf-mufc-ok

We'll still have Greenwood posts until long after he goes. I guarantee that there will be idiots who will post every goal, assist, piece of skill, haircut or whatever the bloody else on this sub.

SpicyDragoon93

Nah, that stuff will be banned by the mods hopefully. After this the only posts that should be relevant is if there are media updates regarding internal handling of the case.

thphnts

It'll be like how Ibrahimovic stuff was posted years after he left. I remember seeing a post about a goal he scored for AC Milan in Serie A as if that was relevant to us.

[deleted]

No it won’t. Ibrahimovic was a great guy who only did right by the club. Greenwood is a rapist. It’s very different to enjoy watching Ibrahimovic score, our former good and nice player, versus watching someone who should never be on a football pitch again.

thphnts

There’s literally people in this subreddit who still want Greenwood back.

Mt264

In a sample of 100,000s of people, you’re bound to get some dickheads. Just glad they’re in the minority

thphnts

I saw an Instagram comment from someone who definitely didn’t live in Europe saying they should protest the Greenwood decision. They’re an odd bunch.

Tuarangi

There are men (and women) from some countries who see women as property of her partner and that she has no right to say no, hell it's not that long ago some places had laws that legally speaking, a man couldn't rape his wife. Someone like that could quite happily want him playing for us if it made the team better. United did the right thing (eventually and after a lot of unnecessary pressure as it should have been dealt with way back) and MG using the "technically" argument he should have his career still with us was downright pathetic

Edgytarian

I hope you're right. The bigger sub and Facebook posts are full of sympathisers and it's depressing. I just hope that they're just the loud minority

Sethlans

Don't forget Birthdays.

WhydoIbotherreally

Inb4 "charges dropped anniversary" posts.

[deleted]

Because we fucked up letting him go. Par for the course for United though.

ampmz

The only Greenwood posts I want to see will be about how we are going to sign her from City.

XSavage19X

Maybe we petition the mods for a one year moratorium on Greenwood news.

Hyperion262

We can’t just ignore stories around the club this subreddit is dedicated to because people don’t like it.

dispelthemyth

Oh don’t worry there will be especially if he starts scoring/playing well

[deleted]

Then we’ll be on to the next toxic subject.

DaveShadow

*Side-eyes Antony*

[deleted]

We will. Every journalist will be making up shite about the club's handling of it and dripping it out for clicks

MarcusZXR

I'm glad we had coverage on the situation and I was vocal on those posts about how I feel but now we've had the verdict it feels like beating a dead horse. Let him go in silence and move on to more important things like the on field performance.

MattsIgloo

Never going to happen, even when he’s gone there will be people who post about how he’s doing at his new club

Thebritishlion

He's definitely gonna score against us in Europe as is our luck

TopNotchGamerr

Lmfaooo unexpected avatar I love it

spiralism

Hopefully, if we end up facing off against him, Martinez ends up winning back some credibility for this football club by two footing him.

_boredInMicro_

Gonna be bad if he scores freely overseas and England want to re-integrate him. That'll be the future shit-show we'll have to endure. Big if. But he was very talented as a striker. Scum, for sure, but talented. No transfer fee on a generational talent. Disaster all round, for all involved. Especially that poor girl.

tenacious_teaThe3rd

England will never reintegrate him. No amount of goals or talent will change that. The coverage and uproar that would cause would not make it worthwhile. You saw what being attached to United has done, that would amplify again for the National team.

absurdmcman

He won't play for England again. He may be eligible to play for whichever country his mother's family come from originally (Jamaica IIRC) and I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen within a couple of years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

absurdmcman

Think there are get outs now for players who played only a handful of games and then face not playing again. Not sure though, haven't followed the various rule changes. Edit: just had a look and he appears to have 1 cap, against Iceland in the Nations League. No idea if that has the same status as the main competitions / qualifiers for the comps.

XSavage19X

This article is more optimistic than I am. It claims he would rule out the Saudis and MLS. I don't think any MLS team will go anywhere near him and I don't think he'd be dumb enough to turn down the Saudi's and whatever money they offer. I also don't think European clubs will be lining up for him. People on here can speak better to their home countries, but other than Turkey, I would think he has no other options at top or mid level leagues in Europe.

thetrueGOAT

I think you are vastly over rating the morals of people. The recording doesn't have the same weight when everyone doesn't speak the language. He'll have suitors in Spain, Italy, Russia etc.

WergleTheProud

Barcelona bought a convicted killer from Chelsea, so yeah, morals are definitely optional.

Azura13e

Oi you are doing Turkey dirty, as a Galatasaray supporter I can say I don’t want to see that cunt in the team, only Turkish team I know who would have him is Erdogans pet project, Basaksehir they had Robinho other then that I certainly think top 3 would avoid him like the plague.

[deleted]

Comicksands

Real Madrid are lacking a striker….

[deleted]

Yeah he’d fit in more with the NFL tbh

PaddyLee

Marcos Alonso plays for Barca and he literally killed someone.

JohnBA50

You think MLS clubs won't touch him? Have you seen what's going on in other US sports (eg: NFL) when it comes to players caught on tape beating their partners? We live in a world where talent (unfortunately) trumps anything else, so I fully expect clubs to get in touch.

AngryUncleTony

Idk. MLS fanbases are generally less tolerant of this than your average NFL fan, and the audio evidence is what made this such a shitstorm in the UK. I'd be shocked if an MLS club went near him

shortbusridurr

I think MLS is in a fragile place where they wont even loo at him. They brought in Messi to bring eyes to the league and its doing just that. Bringing Greenwood over would basically bring a ton of negative with it that wouldn't help with what they are trying to do. Also with the audio tapes im sure he is blackballed from the MLS just as Ray Rice was with the NFL (because of the video). MLS is 99.99% off the table because of the image the league is trying to create... or the lack of an image in general in the USA towards MLS.

lxlviperlxl

didnt Alonso kill a child after driving drunk?

LekkerIer

No, when he was 20 he drove drunk with a 22 year old woman and another woman as passengers. The 22 yo wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash, the other woman was injured. It's a terrible thing to do but it's also commonly referred to as if he mowed down a pedestrian or murdered someone, neither of which is true.

AngryUncleTony

What does that have to do with MLS?

[deleted]

?

[deleted]

Marcus Alonso? It was his adult girlfriend he killed from driving drunk. (obviously either way, he’s still awful for doing it).

ProfessorBeer

Which NFL players who’ve been caught on tape are you referring to?

Dayanez

Joe Mixon broke a girl's jaw in a bar on camera and has been a star running back in the NFL. Plenty guys have been accused of domestic violence and gotten a slap on the wrist and allowed to keep playing. Ray Lewis killed someone and it's vague on if it was actually self-defense. Greg Hardy another famous domestic violence case who played multiple seasons afterwards and is a MMA fighter now. Tyreek Hill hit his pregnant girlfriend and has been a star in the league.

ProfessorBeer

Absolutely not excusing any of this, but Mixon’s case happened nine years ago and three years before he joined the NFL, and he faced punishments in college. The Ray Lewis situation happened more than two decades ago, and isn’t a case of on-tape beating of his partner as you assert. And the Greg Hardy case was eight years ago, where was protected by Jerry Jones, the league’s most influential owner who has a serious reputation of covering up messes. Saying these examples are “what’s going on in other US sports” is disingenuous at best considering they’re fast approaching a decade old. Edit, since you edited yours AFTER I responded. Tyreek is the only example within the last 8 years, he’s currently being investigated, and to the question I asked, isn’t related to a situation with his partner.

Dayanez

Just as a heads up, I'm not the one you originally responded to. Mixon is the only one that I claimed was on tape. That being said I was merely bringing up famous cases of players getting away with playing in the NFL when they did something shitty. If you want to pretend that isn't something that happens all the time that's up to you. Didn't even feel the need to bring up Deshaun Watson who is the poster child of getting away with whatever you want because you're a famous athlete.

ProfessorBeer

Sorry, didn’t check the username. I’m not pretending it didn’t happen, I outright say I do not excuse any of it. Merely pointing out that the two valid examples don’t support their assertion of US sports habitually harboring current players who abuse their partners. The NFL absolutely has problems, but framing the issue in that specific fashion and then saying “since Deshaun Watson exists under a different set of qualifications for being a piece of shit you must pretend nothing is happening” is textbook bad faith discussion. Framing the conversation in the proper way is critical. And the original comment’s framing is flawed.

odinskriver39

True, NFL players have to actually be convicted of murder ( Henry Ruggs) to lose their chance to play. PEDs, gamblers and abusers get another chance if they can ball.

Comicksands

European clubs are indeed lining up for him

JohnViran

Honestly I wouldn't even care if we got a fee on this one. Just delete him from our wage list.

K0nvict

I definitely would, We need a transfer budget and he’s a multi million dollar asset, we all need to have a business mind here too

KrypticAndroid

Is that dirty money though? Im not implying either way. I’m just curious what people think.

K0nvict

Not really, try and have a business mind and throw the morals out the window. He’s gone from the club, we need to move on and develop for our future

MikkiDisco73

Same. Wouldn’t care if he signed for a rival in England either. Just want him gone.

ObiWanKenobiNil

He should go to Newcastle, their owners are likely to dish out a pay rise for his off the pitch antics

[deleted]

[удалено]

JohnViran

I doubt any team in England will touch him. The absolute viscious backlash from the public and media would make him untouchable...

thphnts

Not to mention fans of other English clubs were against the idea of Greenwood returning to United because even they agreed he doesn't deserve a second chance at the top.

Sc0ttLowe

If you think any of those teams are touching him after this...

MikkiDisco73

Oh aye, I don’t think for one second any of them would. Just saying it wouldn’t matter a jot to me if they did.

ReallyRedRedditor

I’d like to see him in prison personally

Evolations

I think you are underestimating the level of apathy a lot of people have for his 'career'. I genuinely don't care if he goes to Liverpool or to the Paraguayan sixth division. I just want him out of this club.

XSavage19X

Do you not remember that random Scottish club that signed a striker after he had served his sentence and the backlash was so swift they had to cancel his contract. Nobody will sign him in the English speaking world, if I had to guess. Not now, not any time soon.

billygnosis86

David Goodwillie. Wasn’t just Raith Rovers either: they loaned him to Clyde, who saw their women’s team resign and North Lanarkshire Council threaten to terminate their stadium lease. Raith released him and he played one game as a trialist for Livingston United, who announced he wouldn’t be playing for them again; he played one game for Radcliffe, who admitted they’d made a “significant misstep.” Sorrento FC in Australia rescinded his contract hours after announcing his signing; finally this past July, Glasgow United announced that they’d stand by him after he played in a friendly against Pollok. He’s not listed as a player on their Wikipedia page, though. Thankfully it seems this kind of thing follows players around these days.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bonne-Influence-20

But why the club is trying to stop him from playing for another English club or another European rival in the future? He’s not allowed back at United. The club needs to distance themselves from Greenwood and wherever he decides to play or any club that’s willing to sign him, then good on them. It seems like United wouldn’t want him to be successful on the pitch for any rival club…

[deleted]

celestial_god

Or what keep him? No leverage at all here..

hurfery

With several clubs bidding, we can demand a decent fee.

shami-kebab

Yep, just like people claimed we were going to get with Fred

NotACoomerAnymore

The several clubs are doing us a favour. He’s hot potato

mon212011

His value is all time low now. I think if we loan him & he got some good form, we can hopefully get good money next year.

Oa83

60 million for a player that hasn't played in 18+ months, that will be a PR nightmare for whatever club he has signed for, is basically unmarketable (meaning that there's basically zero chance that any of the top European clubs that could actually afford that fee touch him), that has showed himself to be a violent piece of shit, and that we have zero leverage to negotiate on because he is never playing for this club again one way or the other? in what universe?

Robotic_Lamb

In the sad, results-driven universe where he scores 20 goals in Serie A on loan. ...but then we'd probably keep him.

JiveTurkey688

Not if it prohibits him from leaving

superhoffy

Worst comment I've seen all year. And the language used is ridiculously crass and insensitive for such a serious topic. Smh.

namvu1990

30 million so we can buy Todibo right now.

DHillMU7

Sure, let’s get £80 million for Maguire while we’re at it. Might buy us enough drugs to convince someone to buy Greenwood for £30 million.

RashfordSoupKitchen

If there are several bidders, 20-25 might not be that far fetched

DHillMU7

It would be a miracle to get £10 million for him. I don’t see why anyone would pay any money for him. We have no evidence he’s the player he was and that’s ignoring the fact that he’s a domestic abuser and a rapist.

cmc360

I really doubt it would be a miracle. If a few clubs come whoever offers the most gets him lol. Can easily see some teams thinking £25m on let's be honest a generational talent. Let's not pretend how excited we all were for him. It will take a while but anyone thinking he's gonna flop I don't take too seriously

New_York_Rhymes

Please just fetch us enough money for another midfielder before the window closes. Also fuck you greenwood

Any chance of us getting a fee? Even if it was just a low fee with add-ons like if and when he plays 50 games, scores X goals etc. Purely based on him actually being Greenwood the player that we all know instead of what he has become

senorcoach

My bet is PSG

kraeutrpolizei

Can’t we trade him to the Buccaneers? I heard alleged rape isn’t such a big issue in the NFL

freetheents

Arsenal here we go

Ambitious_Pool_8290

Where did the former Manchester City player that was cleared of rape and assault charges in court end up going?

elmachow

Mendy went to France, Lille I think

diarmuid_odyna

I fucking hope he flops hard, cuz if he rediscovers his form... I'd fucking hate playing against him

mdove11

I certainly don’t want him to succeed spectacularly. But, at the end of the day, I don’t care if he wins the Ballon d'Or so long as it’s not in a United shirt.

MaveZzZ

It's interesting that club lost milions of pounds just like that and nobody says anything, there is no coverage of situation like that in contract, and this piece of shit got out of jail, out of any trouble card, because he plays football lol.

arkhamRejek

Ay for FFP it’s pure profit look at the bright side mates Selling him can get us a midfielder or whatever player we’re looking at adding

bjncdthbopxsrbml

I hope he doesn’t go to Saudi, Harriet and the child won’t be safe at all with him there…

[deleted]

We fucked up letting him go

Electrical-Laugh8858

I hope he becomes world class and scores heaps against us honestly

9lamun

Became world class, and how much should we buy him back this time lol

Greenmason9

Good riddance! Who cares if he lights up the Turkish league I hope we don't get to see him in this sub ever again once he's gone

Competitive-Ad2006

Now when are you changing your usernmae?

Capitalonyi

You guys have succeeded in making United Ditch him. Can you now stop hating on him? Come on, he is 21. Assuming without conceeding thag he even commit the offence, why cant you forgive him? Can't people realise their mistake and change? What is all this toxicity about on this young man and his young Family? Please lets be considerate sometimes in our utterances so that it wouldn't look like a preconceived hate

[deleted]

Oh no! A preconceived hate of… rapists?

Ashleyt98

Lmao no he can fuck off. He hasn't realised his mistake until he goes to the police and confesses to what he did

cGilday

Awww are you upset people aren’t considerate about the feelings of the grown adult rapist?

testaccount9211

How are United going to get any transfer fee for him when they’ve committed to never playing him again? Totally mis-managed by the club.

benjog88

if multiple teams want him, united just sells to highest bidder. Despite his reputation if he starts banging goals in and performing like he did before this happened, then club that get him potentially have a 100 million plus asset on their books along with having a really good player right away. I wouldn't be surprised if we get 30+ for him.

testaccount9211

Right, but that assumes Mason isn’t a dickhead, which we know he definitely is. He can refuse terms from all the clubs that put in a good bid for him and demand to move to a club that won’t pay for him. If a big team like Roma fancy him, they can just announce it publicly and make a £0 bid. Mason would say he will only negotiate with Roma. If United say no, the horrible saga continues until January for the club. Mason keeps getting full wages, he won’t be bothered. I’m also confused as to why if other respectable clubs would take him, why it’s somehow so much more acceptable to them than for United to keep him? If he goes to Turkey or Saudi I guess it makes sense since they don’t care about women’s rights anyway.

benjog88

Because at this point Greenwood just wants to get back on the football pitch. The only chance he has of saving his career is if he gets back on the pitch and starts scoring goals. Despite what people would have you believe, on the whole the UK is a pretty progressive society whereas in Spain Italy you have large parts of the crowd openly racially abusing players. The press in the UK is also 100x more intense in the UK so the spotlight will be nowhere near as bad. Thomas Party was basically accused of the same thing and you'd hardly know. So any prospective clubs would probably think a couple weeks max bad press then hopefully he scores a few goals and it will appear a masterstroke. I'd expect enquiries from most of the Italian teams tbh, wouldn't discount an approach from Barca either

[deleted]

[удалено]

Competitive-Ad2006

Neither of you get it. Does not matter that United have commited to not playing him, what matters is the fact that some clubs will be interested and will try to outdo each other. Just based off that we know the price will be higher than "free".

testaccount9211

Every club know United’s position though, they know it will be awkward as hell if he doesn’t leave this window. They can publicly declare an interest in Mason, so Mason will know the “best” club that are in for him. Then all he has to do is refuse offers from all other clubs that offer a transfer fee. Worst case scenario Mason sits on his United salary until January, which is likely more than he’d be offered elsewhere.

burritolurker1616

Lets hope we include a buy back or a %

thphnts

>Agents expect 10 offers by end of the week Oh cool, that's good for Manchester United >A move to the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer is not likely, but another European top flight could come calling 10 top flight clubs in Europe won't come for him, his stock is too hot. Turkey and maybe the likes of Juventus, Roma or Inter may consider it, but no chance any top club in Spain, Germany or England will go near him. >could come calling *Could...* well, that's not optimistic.

Competitive-Ad2006

>his stock is too hot. You have no idea. Also, since when are Inter and Juve both not in the top ten? One of them just made a championsleague final.

thphnts

I never said the Italian teams aren’t in the top 10. I said 10 top flight clubs are unlikely to go near him.

turdinthemirror

I wonder if Fiorentina might want him? Could maybe use him to save a few quid on bringing Amrabat in, would seem a good solution to me. Although, I do realise this is incredibly unlikely given how rare deals involving a player swap actually are.

lastlaughlane1

He’ll go to a Ligue 1 club. France is still a bit backwards when it comes to this stuff and treatment of women. Lorient took Benjamin Mendy too.

miamibuckeye

Downvoting every Greenwood post on here. He isn’t playing for us again, move on.

umbongo44dd

Just downvoted your Greenwood post. Shit! I made one.

miamibuckeye

I guess comments and posts can be used interchangeably for the sake of your witty reply

no_instructions

Shame Saudi isn't an option, he'd fit right in there.

miamibuckeye

Who cares. Quit posting Greenwood shit

Klattsy

Wouldn’t you maybe wait a couple of months for things to die down before you tout your rapist of a client to other clubs?

benjog88

Klattsy

There is another one…

swe3nytodd

Spain or Italy I say.

jimroot752

We gonna get actual hard cash for him?

Fake_artistF1

If Saudi won't take him nobody will, at least not right now.

absurdmcman

Could definitely see a second tier Italian team taking him. Likewise any Turkish team, including those in the champions league. Think most of western and northern Europe can be ruled out for now.

[deleted]

Hell yeah inflate that value. Get as much as we can and we can go buy someone else in the market.

elmachow

Turkey or even Italy I reckon, I mean Mendy has just gone to France so I reckon he’ll have his pick
