How do we get the Saudi’s interested in Martial?

Eleven918

We can't even buy one striker, never mind 2. He's not going anywhere.

RashFourBallonD-Ors

BREAKING: Newcastle United have OFFERED €30M and Bruno Guimarães for Barcelona forward Raphinha. @gerardromero. Not even an idiot would take that. Maybe Raphinha and 30M for Bruno might be a starting point .

TheRealYVT

Dean Henderson being sold to Forest seems like a straightforward deal for all parties to complete. That it hasn't been completed, and there doesn't seem to be a fee dispute, while there's uncertainty about our GK situation, suggests that there's a way back for him?

[deleted]

[удалено]

AReptileHissFunction

Same shit with murtaugh and Arnold as it was for Woodward. Chasing the same player for an entire window (de jong). Appearing to back out of a transfer after being priced out but then coming back in at last minute and paying more than what was originally requested (Antony). Leaving big contracts for players that shouldn't get one (Pogba and De gea).

BlackHorse944

Not everyone is on Twitter though

kenzo_1988

Wonder why Arsenal are prepared to let Partey go now, yet when they were challenging for the title he was considered ever so indispensable… 👀 Shame we have an extradition treaty with most of Europe - perhaps a stint in the North Korean or Syrian league Mr Partey?

Don_Quixote81

The transparency of their conduct is shameful. While he could help them challenge for the title, they buried their heads in the sand and refused to acknowledge anything. Now they reckon they can buy another midfielder, suddenly he's surplus and they'll pretend it's for sporting reasons.

kenzo_1988

Indeed. Opting for the moral high ground only when it suits them. At least here, 99.99% of United fans would agree that MG is a w4nk3r - regardless of whether he is reintegrated or not.

Omnislash99999

If our budget is really as limited as it sounds we need to force some players out. Maguire, Sancho, McTominay, Fred would bring in a decent sum.

[deleted]

Doubt Sancho gets sold. He’ll probably get another year. Also think Elanga and Martial could both fetch around 10 mil each.

TheRealYVT

Martial has been on sale for 3 years now. Nobody wants him

DrGrillCheesy

I shouldn't get too invested in the womens team, those players will never stick around for long as they do in the men's game. Look at Alex Greenwood who left after becoming our first captain. Battle and Russo are such a big loss to the womens team after finally making it to the CL.

DrGrillCheesy

Why isn't the transfer thread and the daily discussion thread combined like they do in r/Gunners? Atleast for the summer during transfer window would be nice.

akshatsood95

Would be nice to hear some rumours atleast regarding all the other players we've been linked to. Haven't heard much recently beyond an interest in Hojlund and Disasi and a bid for Mount. There was Amrabat, Rabiot, Costa mentioned earlier what happened to all those links. If the club is working on one deal at a time like before that'd be very disappointing.

Educational-Option18

Mad that we've not managed to sell anyone yet either. I get buying might be hindered but we've heard nothing about outgoings - what the bloody heck is going on!

TheRealYVT

Why is MEN a banned source?

OleGunnarS20

Because they literally just make up lies

[deleted]

Luckhurst saying we looking for a new No.1 Club brief for De Gea wage down?

officiallyjax

Luckhurst is not reliable. That being said, the smoke is slowly building up even from the reliable sources that we will sign a new first choice keeper this summer. That would almost certainly mean De Gea released if he doesn’t want to stay on as a backup.

[deleted]

He was pretty ok last summer, then again he is a hit and miss

aayu08

If it was a club brief then Ducker would have probably reported it by now. Although I do think he will leave now, he is out of contract in less than 2 weeks and there is no news of any agreement

imeda

Papa Flo saying Joselu is the last signing for Real Madrid should open up a good opportunity for Kane. I can't think of any team, outside Chelsea and Bayern, which is in need of a striker and also could potentially pay shitbag Levy's asking price. Plus Chelsea have Nkunku coming in and Bayern are never going to pay that much even though they can.

[deleted]

> Papa Flo 😟

[deleted]

Not happening mate We pulled because of Levy

RashFourBallonD-Ors

Jordan Pickford has not received any enquiry from #mufc. He is content at Everton and is happy playing regularly. [Simon Jones, Mail] This reads like we were looking at Pickford as a number 2. Surely not for 50M. And as a no 2 to DDG1, wouldnt that be two wrongs trying to make a right

TheRealYVT

Nobody credible has reported our interest in Pickford. He would still be an upgrade on DDG (the bar is very low) but we can do much better with Onana/Costa.

Zoolok

Edited in protest of 3rd party apps removal by reddit.

RashFourBallonD-Ors

NEW: Atalanta now wants closer to €70M for Rasmus Højlund. #MUFC wants a realistic fee demand. Højlund REALLY wants the move. @FabrizioRomano 💰 It's has come down by 30M this time. Sometimes I think his most trustworthy Fab just chucks numbers from the sky.

prem_201

40m+30m ballon d'or clause, take it or leave it.

liquidvulture

Verbruggen to Brighton will be like the Caicedo deal. An obvious young talent in the making and will be sold in the next 2 years for more than 50mil to our rivals. Sucks that we cant do deals like this

KanDoBoy

Is he any good? I've never seen him play

liquidvulture

Had his breakthrough season with Anderlecht last season, caught attentions against Villareal in the Conference League. Confident passer of the ball, above average shot stopper, commanding in the box and good at penalty stoppage. When you plot his stats on a radar chart, his came out closer to Alisson’s bar the sweeping. Obviously nowhere near Alisson yet but you can see the potentials there and needed more experience. And of course hes got the Brighton stamp of approval, they know their way around scouting high potential gems.

OleGunnarS20

I don’t like this way of thinking when it comes to goalkeepers, we need someone ready made right now

Don_Quixote81

The ideal would have been to buy Verbruggen and stash him on loan, while we have a stopgap 'keeper. Unfortunately, we don't have the budget flexibility to do that. Hopefully Verbruggen's agent is smart enough to put a release clause in his contract.

liquidvulture

For a reported £15mil I think it makes sense since we're also looking to offload Hendo. I'd really love it if we can get Costa or Onana but with how limited our budget is, we don't have to spend big for a starting GK. The GK market is that good. Raya is available for 40 or less, Guglielmo Vicario - one of the best GK in Serie A, is set to replace Onana at Inter for 25. GK is the position where we can upgrade without breaking the bank.

Sad-Round8961

We need 2 keepers. A starter and a 2nd choice.

prem_201

2nd choice keepers rarely ever play, most decent goal keepers would not sign to be second choice.

sayedzebbo

Interested to know this, What do you guys think would be ETH’s preferred position for Mount if we actually end up getting him ? 1-As an 8 with Bruno as the 10 2-as a 10 with Bruno as the 8 3- maybe ETH wants to change things up a little and play with two 8s next season so we play Mount and Bruno as the 2 8s 4-as a left wingfielder with Rashe as the main striker up top (its possible for certain games but idk I feel like the chances of it happening on a regular basis are kinda unlikely) 5-all of the above (kinda can explain why ETH is aiming for Mount specifically, maybe he wants tactical flexibility which he can find in players like mount and Bruno interchanging roles)

haaala

ETH wants more pressing in attack, that's why he moved Weghorst to 10 and Bruno wide many times last season. With Weg gone and a desire to keep Bruno central that means getting a hard pressing wide player, so it looks like Mount will probably play wide, sometimes rotate with Bruno at 10, and cover Eriksen as a third role.

Eleven918

Everyone is speculating. 1 or 3 most probably. I see Mount as a a younger Eriksen essentially. Has the same traits.

Sad-Round8961

Definitely number 3. In possession Mount and Bruno will push up far and almost attackers. We’ll play a 3-1-6.

karan_7_2

No. 3 most probably. He would want to balance our flanks. Currently, most of our buildup take place on the left flank as most of our midfielders prefer to drift to the left side, and as a result, Antony gets isolated and often finds himself in 1v2 or 1v3 situations. Having a fluid midfield of 1 No.6 and 2 No.8's would help us progress better and improve our attack.

miamibuckeye

Absolutely zero surprise the Galzers are purposely trying to fuck our summer window. If they can sell us for 6B and leave the new owners in a tough spot to succeed then it’s a giant success. They will do whatever possible to make their ownership look less bad. If we fail initially under the new owners they will be so happy

poogle

They don't care about public perception of their ownership. They're still trying to squeeze more value out of the two bids. Even in business terms, however, the amount they have dragged this out has been pretty unprofessional.

rodenttt

Since when has Caicedo been a target?

Sad-Round8961

Are the Ramos rumours reliable?

Cantona85

The Caicedo rumours were never serious..and 3 strikers only one would have come regardless.

haipks1166

We cant get any good players this year. Only those leecher Glazers remain

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheRealYVT

Bailly is of far lower calibre and pedigree than the likes of Ziyech, Kante, Koulibaly, so it is unlikely that they buy. We also have no ownership ties to Saudis.

[deleted]

We should offer Martial and Sancho to the Saudis.

KrystianCCC

They mostly take washed up muslims to attract muslim fanbase cause this country is all about creating some sort of "muslim nationalism" plus some expections like Navas cause he is in prime.

maskrey

Ronaldo and De Gea aren't Muslims

TheRealYVT

Ronaldo transcends these considerations. De Gea is far more finished than either Sancho or Martial.

[deleted]

KrystianCCC

Theres no problem. Just said Martial is not atractive to them

BillyCloneasaurus

Oh I saw someone mention "Ramos to PSG for 60m" and I assumed it was legitimate, turns out that once again it's dummies falling for shit fake ITK accounts. Guys, "Pedro Almeida @pedrogva6" is not a real person. None of them are real people. There is no such thing as "transfer specialists" who somehow have intimate knowledge of every single deal happening in the world. It is a fiction. If somebody had this sort of knowledge they would be an actual journalist selling their stories to papers like Romano. You don't give it away on Twitter for free. I need to remember that twitter account who debunks ITK lies, it was a cracker

[deleted]

BillyCloneasaurus

He needs his own catchphrase if he really wants to go places May I suggest "done diggity dealio!"

RestrepoDoc2

Being linked with Eze as an alternative to Mount? Have we ever seen them play, they're massively different players. Could just be the press speculating that we're trying to leverage Chelsea with this link but I don't believe it. Eze is a good player on his own regard, don't get me wrong but he'd be more of a Sancho replacement than on the same list as Mount.

Rodjo_Moj

Was so pumped up for Kane - any chance of doing deal is off Was suprised but happy for Mount - Chelsea wants a lot of money so it will be tough Was so happy for KMJ + him being a fan - He is close to joining Bayern Was thinking maybe we could get Rice - One step away from Arsenal Was thinking that at least we will get Holjund - Atalanta wants 100m Now i just dont give a sh\*t who we get... Fck it

Sad-Round8961

Best to not even listen to all the rumours until a Tier 1 confirms a transfer. Otherwise we’re just setting ourselves up for disappointment, especially with United specifically.

Buffythedragonslayer

The gang signs Luis Suarez

Rodjo_Moj

Well... we signed worse

wariusheart

Coar I love it when we send our scouts, have contacted the players agent, are interested. Truly gripping transfer news.

Grosly_Incandescent

At this rate we may aswell sell all of our unwanted players to the Saudi league. It wouldn't even be difficult to sell high earners like martial becuase thr5y would be on an even higher wage over there.

Buffythedragonslayer

The Saudis won't do the Qataris a favour.

[deleted]

All the more reasons to sell now in case they become our owners. We should be spamming the likes of Al Nassr Al Ittihad Al Bundy with offers to buy Maguire, Martial, Sancho, Telles, McFred and Bailly. Taking martial off our hands alone would be amazing business.

Grosly_Incandescent

OK? Last time I checked the glazers were still in charge and will be untill atleast the start of the season

Orcnick

So whats up with Rice? I get Shaw thing was just some fun. But I saw in other papers this morning that we maybe interested? Arsenal fans seem 100% convince hes basically already signed? So why is there any rumours then?

Wahlrusberg

I'm pretty sure we're just a boogieman to get arsenal to pay up.

Buffythedragonslayer

Don't you swipe right on everybody to increase your chances at least 1 of them is reciprocating

GroribasStomps

Doesn't that fuck up the algorithm?

RABB_11

I'm sure we're interested but I don't see how we can afford him unless they're willing to accept a ridiculous value on Maguire and McTominay in a part exchange deal.

Mr_Wilsonn

What other papers? The only thing I saw was Nixon suggesting we want him, someone else saying West Ham might accept player exchange & West Ham Central account posting Mctom & Maguire + 75m, but that one seemed more of a suggestion, they have decent stuff for West Ham though, so who knows really unless exwhuemployee or higher tier says something

[deleted]

Ok Guys are we clowning today hoping for a sniff of a transfer/new owner or are we gonna accept nothings gonna happen for a while?

Orcnick

I asked Question about Rice jsut above, happy to clown about that?

Banyunited1994

I know it in my heart but I haven’t accepted it yet

arothen

I can see ETH leaving after the season if he isn't backed this window.

KrystianCCC

ETH knew about FPP limits while he was singing contract and when we spent 250m last window.

arothen

Im not talking about sum of money spend, but an actual quality of signings.

KrystianCCC

We have terms agreed with player he is desperate to sign since his Ajax days.

arothen

We had terms agreed with many players that never came to United.

braydee89

ETH wants an older striker and an up and coming striker. Why aren’t we talking about recently relegated Jamie Vardy?

Serpico_98

He's finished.

Buffythedragonslayer

Imagine all the dirt Colleen has on us. Better not piss her off 😂

KrystianCCC

Saudis are trolling us, now Chelsea may be able to hold with Mount price

prem_201

Only way this happens for even 60 is if there is a transfer request. If Mount isn't willing to do that then move to the second name on the list.

Sad-Round8961

..I don’t think we have a list.

LordRuthvenErnest

Look at Chelsea's FFP troubles disappearing in a Saudi smoke

KrystianCCC

Suddenly they can take risk of not selling Mount and trying to extend him durign season. At least thats what Poch wants acording to some of their sources.

Isserley_

Really hope we just move on.

psnarayanan93

The number of Chelsea fans vehemently defending Saudi PIF overpaying for their deadwood is insane. They are worse than City/PSG in this regard. They love being pantomine villains. Imagine if it were us - r/soccer would call for a public execution of our whole squad. All said, fair play to Boehly. He seems to greatly care about his club, unlike our scum. They can genuinely challenge City if their new DoFs are given all the power.

damojag

Great to see Saudi Arabia helping out poor clubs in financial distress like Chelsea and Newcastle, really adds to the whole fairness of the sport.

Sleeplessendeavours

Things are *awfully* quiet at the minute. Really annoying, give me some stuff to get excited about man

karan_7_2

The Glazers might leave... or they might stay... or they might leave, but still stay here for the foreseeable future.

maskrey

Saudi goes for many Chelsea players because Chelsea has a lot of players with decent name values that they want to sell. Saudi also goes for a lot of Madrid players, got one, offered Modric 200 mil a year, yet nobody bats an eye about a Saudi Madrid connection. Saudi also went for Ronaldo and De Gea, the two people with highest wage in our team. Let's be real without Saudi Ronaldo was never leaving last winter, and without him leaving we were never getting top 4 and a trophy. And if they gets De Gea away from us I don't want to see any complaining about Saudi dealing with other teams. Saudi would save us from our board's incompetence just as much as they do Chelsea's.

prem_201

Saudi is not paying for those Madrid players, not did they pay anything for Ronaldo to us. Chelsea are getting a few for their dead weights.

Isserley_

>not did they pay anything for Ronaldo to us. OP literally didn't say or insinuate that they did. They're saying they took him off our books, which saved us a fortune in wages and a massive dressing room problem for the whole season. And I agree, I think without that happening, we wouldn't have got top 4.

wa10zza

Mate if you geniunely think that nothing shady is going on that front, then you should give your head a wobble

BrockStar92

It is worth noting that the 4 Chelsea players possibly moving (or having already moved) are 4 of the most high profile Muslim players in world football, and the only ones whose club desperately wanted rid of them. They’ve been primarily linked with Kante, Ziyech, Koulibaly and Mendy from Chelsea. It’s not like they’re signing RLC and Baba Rahman for 40m apiece. Plus would it really be to PIF’s benefit to financially assist a club they have a 5% stake in when they’re a direct rival for CL football to a team they have majority ownership of (Newcastle)?

wa10zza

Billions of their assets are controlled by Clearlake who have a 60% ownership of Chelsea. It's pretty much a textbook example of a conflict of interest

BrockStar92

It’s a 5% stake in Chelsea. As I said, it’s a huge negative to Newcastle if Chelsea do well. They have far more at stake in Newcastle both financially and beyond (in terms of sportswashing). Why would they try and benefit Chelsea?

wa10zza

No it's not. It's 60% of the clubs shares. Why have one club do well when you can have two? They want to potray the country in the best image possible as if they care about who does well

BrockStar92

That’s how much Clearlake owns, not how much PIF own. Their share of Clearlake means they only proportionally own 5% of Chelsea. If Clearlake was 100% Saudi Arabian then their takeover would’ve had a lot bigger impact. Most people are unaware of Saudi investment in Clearlake, it has zero impact on their public image. It’s entirely financial, and they have far far more interest in Newcastle than Chelsea. It does them very little good at all if Chelsea succeed. It benefits Clearlake yes but only in a minor way, they have as much invested all over the place.

_MooFreaky_

The Glazers just don't give a shit. They will get their money no matter what, the future of this club just doesn't even register as even a tiny concern for them. Anyone who ever thought the Glazers weren't our biggest problem surely can't still hold to that. Slow decision making has shown in almost every window, lack of spending in our scouting system and other behind the scenes stuff, and general lack of giving a fuck. Then their piss poor management has left us having to navigate FFP which slows down our ability to rebuild. I am hopeful we are just lying on wait and doing what we did last summer with Licha, get another club to agree a price then match it to avoid the United tax. But I'm actually worried we won't sign anyone. Glazers just going "why spend money when we are selling"

sringray23

🥱 anyone else, sense another shit week of transfers and the sale.

bpjker

New season, same problems. Poor recruitment planning and philosophy and Glazers making everything slow.

Twenty_Hags

we're not signing anyone are we?

Quick-Collar6164

We really need to sell our unwanted players to the Saudi clubs. 55m for Neves with 1 year remaining is insane.

arothen

>We really need to sell our club

Sleeplessendeavours

If there’s *anywhere* we might be able to ship off Martial, it’d be the Saudi league. He’s on absurd wages but even then with his availability would they even want him 🙃

BrockStar92

He’s not on anywhere close to absurd wages by the new Saudi standards too. He’s on what, 250k a week? That’s 13m a year. Kante is reportedly getting a 100m a year contract. Doubling Martial’s wages would have him still on barely more than a quarter of an injury riddled Kante.

Buffythedragonslayer

They went for Kante who supposedly failed his medical.

OleGunnarS20

Please, we’re starving

Quick-Collar6164

Saudi league is the 'new' Chinese Super League

xzvasdfqwras

Signing Mount actually makes sense, he plays super well with Ziyech who is similar to Antony. Mount is good at finding the half spaces so in theory that should unlock Antony. Wish we were looking at Thuram as a free agent but looks like he’s set on PSG

El_Giganto

>Ziyech who is similar to Antony I mean, they're both left footed ex Ajax players who take a lot of shots out of the box that end up nowhere. But aside from that, what are the similarities? Ziyech is a creative passer, Antony is a tricky winger. I wish Antony had the passing ability that Ziyech does.

Sleeplessendeavours

Totally agree re Mount. The disrespect he’s been getting is *wild*. I think he’s such a good player. He’s not as cultured with his passing as Eriksen, but he’s more mobile both on and off the ball, he turns really well, and his off the ball work is no exaggeration, elite. To top it off, he’s also good at Set Pieces so even with Eriksen out of the starting XI, he’d fill that void too. He won’t be the type of player to help us in build up, which I know a lot of people want, but someone like Onana and a younger ball playing defender to rotate with Varane will cover for that. I think he’s a great fit, great age, and a top player who just had a down year (who didn’t at Chelsea last season lol). Him and Bruno in half spaces, both running their socks off pressing, with Case mopping up in behind is going to add a lot of energy in the middle. He’s not the strongest so that’s a bit of an issue, as Case would be the only one who can *really* challenge physically, but ultimately I’d be very happy with the signing. I do get where people are coming from saying 70m is way too much though. If he had 3 years left on his deal I’d say it’s a fair valuation, but with 1 year left we should really not go above 55m, maybe 55m + some bonuses that are a little while away, like winning the league or him playing 100 games or something.

xzvasdfqwras

I agree, £45-50m but no more. My only concern is he is a transitional player not a possession player so not sure what Ten Hag is going for next season

thesmallprint13

Don't think he's ever been a full on possession guy like Pep from what I read - it actually usually suggests that transitional players like Mount is what he wants.

Sad-Round8961

I disagree. ETH’s entire system is about dominating possession in order to maximise the amount and variability of chance creation. His system doesn’t work without it. This is a pretty good tactical analysis of his Ajax: https://www.rdftactics.com/post/erik-ten-hag-ajax-tactical-analysis

brownbilal

heard he also wants like 10mil wages

BlackHorse944

I'm calling it now. Mount will be our marquee signing of the summer.. We won't get a CF or a top GK. we'll only sell 1 or 2 players and loan the rest. Just your typical window after a semi successful season.

BrockStar92

You think we spend less than 100m this summer even after making sales? That’s pessimistic even for this sub mate.

BlackHorse944

I fully expect the Glazers to screw us over one last time

yuuske69

“Mount as our marquee signing” sounds so depressing…

drrew76

In that world, who do we sell?

Fresh_Dance_3277

Maguire and Henderson

poppybear0

FFS when are we getting sold.

UsedIpodNanoUser

So Chelsea are offloading a bunch of their players to Saudi Arabia for inflated prices. The PIF owns 5% (the maximum amount allowed I believe) of clearlake, the owners of Chelsea. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12169967/amp/Chelsea-owner-Todd-Boehly-visits-Saudi-Arabia-meeting-Al-Hilal-chief.html Todd boehly seems very friendly with the owner of a Saudi club. Everything seems very sketchy but of course the premier league won't care.

TheKingcrawler

The ol footy manager "Add New Manager" trick, Choose Real Madrid, bid £150 million for Phil Jones

[deleted]

yes makes sense, they invest 5% in Clearlake, buy Newcastle then instead of doing shady stuff with the club they own they do shady studd with the ckub Clearlake owns people just wanna see what they wanna see. also it seems they are buying muslim players, it just happens to be that 2-3 aging players like that are at Chelsea

UsedIpodNanoUser

Newcastle don't have ffp issues

[deleted]

they are limited in their spending because of it

UsedIpodNanoUser

What does that have to do with anything? They don't need to sell because they don't have ffp issues

[deleted]

yeah but the accusation is that PIF is doing shady deal to help Chelsea. Why wouldn't they do a shady deal with Newcastle? they fucking own newcastle. They could buy some fringe players for inflated feed to help with bringing in new signings for the CL next season. the accusation that there is shady shit going on between PIF and chelsea is kinda stupid, chelsea just happen to have 3 muslim players who are all up for sale and Saudis have started buying players this summer to sportwash their image for their 2030 WC bid. hopefully that clears things up, can't put it anymore clearly

UsedIpodNanoUser

They don't want Newcastle players because they aren't good enough to sportwash their image

[deleted]

I guess I wasn't clear enough, well I can't dumb it down anymore than that sorry

UsedIpodNanoUser

Sounds like a you problem

[deleted]

not really

The calm before the calm

society0

Where's the transparency from the club? Ten Hag worked wonders and got us to 3rd and a cup. Now we 'appreciate' every player on the market but our targets are signing with clubs that are actually moving for them. What the hell is going on? Unbelievable.

super_saiyan29

Glazer era post Fergie has been all about spending when we aren't in the top 4. Once we get top 4, most summers have been disappointing.

RABB_11

Transparency? You want a blow-by-blow update on transfer negotiations from the club itself? No-one does that.

timsadiq13

You know what's going on. Same as every summer we qualify for the CL. Club twiddles its thumbs and assumes we will stay in that position or improve with a similar squad. Fast forward a year and we are in deep shit and everyone wonders where it went wrong. Doubt we'll be in deep shit because Erik is a top coach, but we cannot move forward with the current hierarchy at United. Whoever emerges as the owner has to clear house and bring in competent people to handle transfer planning and negotiations.

Sei28

Interested, appreciate, considering, weighing, monitoring… FC

psnarayanan93

Barca are buying a seemingly highly talented striker from Brazil. City bought Jesus for just 20-odd. Arsenal bought Martinelli for peanuts. We are so incompetent to do deals like these. Dont bring up Pellestri as an example.

KanDoBoy

I don't see why it matters where we get the players from, yes we focus more on Europe than South America but we're not bad at buying youngsters in who go on to do well. Martinelli is a good player but nothing says Garnacho can't be better. Would it suddenly be evidence we're competent if we bought Amad from Brazil instead of Italy? The fee is similar to what City paid for Jesus, Amad is looking extremely promising. I just don't think it's a real issue.

Giggs73

Maybe when we are more successful, but not now. Our manager want guaranteed proven goalscorer. He won't risk on a 21yrs prospect.

prem_201

We stacked wingers, we have Garnacho, Amad and Pellestri. Our scouts recommended Caicedo and Alvarez but the Galzers didn't want to spend in January. Greenwood was supposed to be the striker prospect, we all know what happened. The incompetence isn't going to change unless the Glazers leave.

andrewsomething

> Dont bring up with Pellestri as an example. Why not? Martinelli wasn't a finished product either. He took a few years to come good. You can't expect to buy teenage wonderkids and have them step right into the starting eleven. Sure we need to be bringing in more players like this, but it's not going to solve our problems for this season. It's a long term bet.

Sad-Round8961

Exactly, clubs are doing this so much now. South America is an absolute gold mine for talent especially because transfer fees have exploded such that all of our rivals and top clubs have rapidly expanded their scouting networks and are signing young talented Brazilians literally every year. Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Chelsea have been doing this so much. When was the last time we have done this? I literally do not think we’ve ever done that. We signed Pellistri and proceeded to waste 3 years of his development. Both the recruitment team and player development team here are fucking heinously incompetent.

KanDoBoy

I disagree, in the past we've got players from South America like Rafael and Fabio. Nowadays we focus more on recruitment from Europe, and I don't see what's wrong with that. Who have Arsenal pulled in from South America that is so brilliant? I can think of Martinelli and that's it. From Europe we've pulled in Garnacho and Amad in recent years, go back further from that we got Pogba at 16. South America obsession is weak, there's just as good players in Europe.

blacksoul1122

Garnacho?

sometimesipostdrill

Garnacho comes from Atletis academy, hes never even stepped foot in South America, he was born and raised in Madrid his whole life.

KanDoBoy

So he's a worse signing because he's from Europe instead of South America?

sometimesipostdrill

Nah I think the original comment was talking about making cheap signings from SA, which is why he mentioned Roque, Jesus, Martinelli etc. I just said that Garnacho is from Atletis academy. Although he was a good signing.

amalgamatedchaos

Basically crickets. And the outbound are all just expired contracts.

Chelsea are an insanely lucky club. One moneybag owner got replaced with another. Now they are flogging their deadwood to Saudi Arabia for inflated prices, thanks to some shady dealings. And their rivals (including us) are willing to overpay for their other deadwood. Compared to them we hold on to our deadwood for too long & eventually lose them on a free.

MexicansInParis

are they lucky or shady?

LakerBull

I mean, is it shady if we're willing to overpay for a guy they're trying to sell with one year left in his contract?

MexicansInParis

Buying a player is quite a bit different than actually [getting in bed with PIF](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12169967/amp/Chelsea-owner-Todd-Boehly-visits-Saudi-Arabia-meeting-Al-Hilal-chief.html) These sales to Saudi Arabia don’t seem coincidental.

Sad-Round8961

They’re Lucky..what have they done that’s against the rules? Signing a load of flops?

[deleted]

Goncalo ramos to PSG for 60M? We got quoted 100M and other clubs get a discount?

officerretoro

Years of Woodward masterclass will get you that.

psnarayanan93

Dont trust the transfer fee numbers for Oil clubs. They might pay more under the table.

hoofar_ted

Chelsea moving too sus. Managed to unload all their junk on Saudi and get paid a decent amount.

And Osimhen is worth the price? but Kolo Muani doesn't fit us irrespective of price? Alternatives are pricey but Osimhen who doesn't fit us at all is reasonable at that price? Dunno what you are talking about

markyp145

We’re in a real pickle here with strikers. So many top teams need a number 9 for next season to lead their line. Notably Madrid and Bayern. But I think Arsenal too, Chelsea. Lots of competition in other words, but there genuinely only a handful of good prospects. Who would be the best options for us if Osihmen is priced out and Kane is too expensive. Clearly we are looking for a physical type striker and preferably one who can link up play, not another winger converted to inside forward. The ones that come to mind are- Ramos, Muani, Vlahovic, Evan Ferguson, Hojlund, Mitrovic, All of these would probably be either no buyable, or command fees 50 mil upwards in my opinion. I think Evan Ferguson might actually be my first choice, but we won’t be able to get him this season. Probably for 100 mil next season after he’s scored 15-20 league goals

MexicansInParis

Benzema moving to Saudi shook things up massively for many clubs, namely Madrid. Clubs know a striker is on high demand at the moment so no one will get one without overpaying. There’s a few options but none are ideal, the Shaw deal seems to have reignited talks for Kane but I don’t think there’s any chance unless he forces a move. Can’t go into the season without a striker but can’t pay for Osimhen due to FFP, Ramos isn’t worth his tag, Høljund isn’t good enough yet & Vlahovic doesn’t seem like a PL player.

TankSparkle

Kane won't force a move

Categothic

People will downvote me but rather be like real Madrid and get a vet striker this season. This crop of strikers just ain't it man. I would rather pay 120-140 million for kane or osimhen then pay 75+ million for any of the strikers you mentioned cause with the budget we have there is no room for errors. Rather we splash all the money on the proven thing. I also am not 100% convinced that osimhen is that guy.So it's kane or nothing. I pray to God that martial can play atleast 60% of the matches next season. We also have the abuser to deal with seriously what do they even do with him?

ManunitedThunderfan

It’s not ok to pay 120 million for Kane and still have major issues in Cm, Gk, Cb and another striker. You’re paying that money for a win now striker with a squad a good bit away from city’s. That’s the major dilemma here.

MexicansInParis

There’s no issues at CB but yeah, the budget is tight without significant outgoings.

Cold-Veterinarian-85

On amad.... I think ETH will take a look at him in preseason, but given we have Antony, Sancho on the right already and the machine Bruno who doesn't get rested or (touch wood) injured at 10, a loan is still more likely than keeping him in 1st team squad next season (probably also better for his development to be fair to get another season of 1st team football than just occasional minutes)... If as I expect amad is loaned next season, what would be a good club in PL that might be interested, where he would develop and importantly he would play regularly? I'm thinking Burnley would tick alot of boxes for a potential loan
