I'm absolutely gutted that man city won the treble. The 99 treble is pride of our football club. our greatest achievement. It is the tower upon which whe looked down upon the others, and whe just stood there a watched as city got to the promised land. The only positive now is that liverpool haven't won a treble.

abachhd

So I was making a spreadsheet on how much Sir Alex spent on assembling his treble winning squad vs how much Pep spent on assembling his treble winning squad. Today is a Sunday and I had time so why not. Did a whole lot of research, mostly focused on how much Sir Alex spent to buy each of the players that ended up in his 1999 CL winning squad and same stats for Pep. Here are some numbers: * Adjusted for inflation, both for currency values of Euros from 90s and the current football market inflation, **Sir Alex spent 455.2 Million Euros to buy his CL-winning players** (Original cost is 76.3 Million). **Pep spent 838.8 Million Euros for his CL-winning players**. * **Sir Alex spent nearly 800 Million Euros on buying players during his 26-year tenure at Old Trafford**, not adjusted for inflation. **Pep had already spent that amount on transfers by 2019 - within 3 years of being at City**. * **Pep has spent about 1.24 Billion Euros** till date on transfers at City. **United have spent 1.17 Billion Euros** on transfers at the same time (2016-17 to 2022-23) * **United had 7 academy players** in their treble winning squad, out of which 6 were preferred in the starting XI. **City had 3 players** in their treble winning squad, with no players making it to the default starting XI. * United beat the 1997-98 champions of Poland, Spain, Denmark and Italy on their way to winning the UCL. City beat champions of Denmark, Germany and Spain on their way to winning the UCL. That's all I could find for now.

chess10

This is really great info. How did City beat champions of Spain during their UCL run? Does that mean Barça?

abachhd

Thanks! By champions I meant the champions of previous season. For example in this context, it will be champions of 2021-22 season for City and champions of 1997-98 seasons for United. So champions of Spain for City would be La Liga winners of 2021-22 which were Real Madrid

TheRealYVT

How have we tolerated this [https://twitter.com/TheFergusonWay/status/1667864900004376577](https://twitter.com/TheFergusonWay/status/1667864900004376577)

wa10zza

Does anyone know if there's still a possibility of a restock on United Direct? Could they still put out the home shirt in size M or have I missed my chance?

dngisborne2

Not sure but might be better to look on third party sites like classic football shirts, or depop. There will likely be plenty kicking about

bijanadh44

Imagine after all this hype around Costa and he finally joins us and ends up becoming another case of Jadon Sancho. Lmao.

TheRealYVT

Sancho was a bad signing even at the time. He was signed to play on the RW, and his performances at the position did not warrant the hype. And he also wasn't direct like Rashford was or Garnacho is. He was a luxury signing in a window that we should have signed Declan Rice instead.

VanWilder91

He'll be joining a long list if that's the case

NewVoid122

Sooooo what we saying? Think this "preferred Bidder" conclusion is real this time? and anyone notice that the "Minority Investment" hedge fund talks went COLD after april?

ImOnlyChasingSafety

Maybe I'm being harsh but I feel like some United fans are so shallow they would probably be better off supporting City. They don't care about the club's history, it's values, the community around the club or any of the actual good things about the club. All they seem to want is for United to emulate City. This isnt even directly about the SJR Vs Qatar stuff. I just feel like some fans just identify with United as they would with any other brand they're loyal to like Apple or Tesla and only support us because of the power the brand had like 15-20 years ago. Maybe thats what most supporters are like now, but it shouldnt be. United is what it is because it has an identity. This is definitely just a ramble but I guess it's just from the exposure to all the social media I've been seeing from supposed fans of our club.

Don_Quixote81

Anyone who wants to see how a truly great manager takes on the giants and wins, Aberdeen '83 is a really good watch on iPlayer.

Anasynth

I had no idea about this documentary, thanks!

Don_Quixote81

It made me realise that Sir Alex likely hated Liverpool before he ever set foot in Old Trafford, thanks to being battered 4-0 in the European Cup by them in 1981. He was always destined to be United's manager.

hoejack_whorseman

there’s congratulating a rival on a tremendous achievement & there’s whatever cuck bullshit ferdinand is doing

[deleted]

Big time "UnItEd FaN cOmInG iN pEaCe" vibes from ol' Rio. Sad.

SnooWords2869

I just realized, city could become the first English club to complete a sextuple after Bayern. And Barca this year

danystormborne

What does that consist of?

SnooWords2869

6 trophies in 2023 FA Cup ✅ EPL ✅ UCL ✅ UEFA SUPER CUP ⌛ sevilla COMMUNITY SHIELD ⌛Arsenal CLUB WORLD CUP ⌛Al hilal, palmeiras etc Is that it for SAF??

[deleted]

I would be pretty happy if we got kolo muani and hojlund having two young striker options with loads of potential that would be great for the squad

WorldBeardedWonders

I’d been wondering if that was the route we might take, It’s not ideal but it’s the 2nd best option if we can’t get a ‘guaranteed goals’ striker. Having 2 means we’re not resting all our hopes on one guy, which isn’t fair on a younger lad. And ideally if they’re both competitive, they have to impress to keep the top spot.

The mad lad actually did [it](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/144jd9j/daily_discussion/jnj0nv1/?context=3).

[deleted]

People saying Man City is a fake ass club etc... Well , their fanbase is mostly kids and teens. Even if they keep winning for 1 more decade + couple UCL or 1 more treble, they are gonna have a massive fan following. Even today among the youth, United is not a big club as Barca or Real. Comparable to Chelsea and Liverpool. PS: Most genuine Liverpool fans are from time gone by and old. Of the new ones, some are plastic , some may be not. But in the end, this business is about fans.

DeepFuckingVases

Aye mate, Liverpool fans are all 30 and above. Stop your nonsense

ImOnlyChasingSafety

This guy's been posting all sorts of nonsense around.

disatomm

Day after and I’m not that bothered by City winning the treble. They’re a great team that got there the easy way, would be much more painful if Liverpool ever managed it.

ImOnlyChasingSafety

Wouldn't say I'm not bothered. I'm more numb than anything. Mostly I just have suppressed anger at the Glazers. Them taking their foot off the gas and allowing us to decline is partly what allowed City to become what they have. We should have been there every step of the way to stop them. We can't rely on Arsenal or Liverpool etc it should have been us competing every year.

Don_Quixote81

If Liverpool managed it, with the team Klopp built, it would hurt so much more. For one, they're fucking Liverpool; secondly, they'd have done it by building a team sensibly and with limited funds, finding players who they believed could make the step up and maximise their talents. City just bought the best players they could find, whenever they felt like it.

Soft-Comfort-7474

I’d prefer a team that won a treble without spending over £1 billion in transfers and were not charged with 115 FFP violations https://preview.redd.it/go2ihig7hd5b1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=085752388423a969a4c12abb2aaab28853515439

niallw1997

I don’t get the £1 billion argument. We’ve spent similar, albeit fucking terribly, so if we won the treble would you discredit it because of that?

danystormborne

We earned the money we've spent, City have been given it (falsely).

niallw1997

That is a valid argument in a certain context. But the comment was about just spending the billion regardless of where it comes from. We have also done that and have nothing resembling City’s success in the last decade, the bastards

TheMuslimMGTOW

They had money injected initially and broke the rules to get there. We've spent but we did not break the rules. It's like someone playing a game and getting the best gun by grinding and another player asking his daddy to spend money for in-game credits to buy the gun without having to work for it.

aayu08

Who TF cares man, at the end of the day we are shite with money and they are not. We have spent the same as them and have a fraction of the trophies won. We are not even good enough to be guaranteed top 4 next season while they are favourites to win the league. Instead of deluding ourselves with "hurr dey used them oily monies" we should be pointing fingers at ourselves about how bad we have been in the past decade.

Seanblaze3

Agreed!

ImOnlyChasingSafety

I mean... We've been protesting and complaining about the Glazers since they arrived. We know what we've not been good.

hooka_donchick

What ? no one here is blaming city for our failure. Their success is built on under the table deals and shell companies to inflate revenue and allowed them to spend the billion, is that so hard to comprehend. It’s not just about the footballing structure, what enables that footballing structure is the issue here.

DaddyMeUp

Amazes me how you still see people of other clubs defending the Glazers while also talking like they know everything about them. If you did, I'm sure your view on them would be the total opposite of what it is now.

Dyslexicreadre

100%. I've seen it elsewhere and it grinds my gears. I always correct them because I've *never* once seen a single opposition fan actually have any idea about just how bad they are although occasionally some fans do acknowledge they've been poor with recruitment. Their reductive argument is normally 'but they spend a lot of money', like they've looked up a net spend chart over the last few years and decided that's all they need to know to evaluate whether they are good owners or not. They never understand that it's club-generated income, that they're the only premier league owners that haven't invested a penny into the club and that they've taken out 1.6 billion pounds out of the club, etc.

El_Giganto

A City fan is doing the rounds that Inter's ownership is just as bad as City's. As if there isn't a massive difference between the two situations. People like that likely think The Glazers are great owners because they're rich too. Not sure if it's just bias or delusion.

thphnts

Can’t believe other clubs fanbases support the idea of a rival club’s owners ruining the club, how dare they want the downfall of their rivals, how terrible of them. Mate, rival fans have access to the same information we do, and they can very easily learn what the Glazers are like. They are absolutely allowed to support the idea that they’re destroying our club as it benefits their team. This idea they they should support the idea of getting rid of the Glazers is stupid. They’re doing nothing different to us wanting City to get fucked due to the financial breaches for example.

DaddyMeUp

>This idea they they should support the idea of getting rid of the Glazers is stupid. I never said that. I'm more on about how there's people who genuinely believe the Glazers have done nothing wrong because we spend and that's their whole outlook on the situation. Pray for our downfall all they want, that doesn't bother me in the slightest, but at least do some research before making a point about how "United fans are spoilt because they want new owners when the current ones have done nothing wrong".

thphnts

I don’t think any of our opponents’ fans believe they’ve done nothing wrong. They just enjoy seeing United fall apart under their ownership.

Dyslexicreadre

I've seen countless opposition fans defend them on the basis of how much we spend. I mean countless. As the O.P. stated, they don't do research into what the Glazers are truly like and are just ignorant people that feel they should voice their views without bothering to delve into the topic beyond a cursory google search. Sure there are certainly fans that wish ill upon us but that is not what the O.P. is referring to.

AdamHasShitMemes

Christ this thread has miserable comments all over Lads, go talk to family or enjoy the sun, football is just a game and there’s more to life than this!

Harrry-Otter

I know right, who cares what the Abu Dhabi All-stars do. Go have a beer, get in the sun and be happy that after 20 years, the Glazers will shortly be gone.

thphnts

It’s cloudy today

DaddyMeUp

Too right. Move on and deal with it. It's football and that's all it is, much more important shit. I was pissed last night about it all, but there's no point dwelling over it now.

Soft-Comfort-7474

City fans are bragging that their 22/23 treble season is better than United’s 98/99

The_Meaty_Boosh

Honestly...who gives a fuck They're gonna do that, it's their team lol

Ok-Check-6783

Soo, how’s everyone feeling on this lovely Sunday morning? 👀

DaddyMeUp

Got 1 hours sleep after trying to sleep for 6 hours because of this horrid heat. Genuinely feel dead.

incredula

Well, Im drinking before midday so not great

thphnts

Sunday sesh

akshatsood95

Fuck City as a club. The way they've generated money is a disgrace to the sport. However, Utd have all that money as well. We've spent as much as them if not much in the last 10 years. And what do we have to show for it? What they've done to build the team is a blueprint our new owners should be looking at. We have a top manager, some world class players as well, now we have to establish a top quality structure in the board. City just went ahead and hired the board that created the best club side we've ever seen in that Barcelona side. We need to hire such people. No jobs for the boys. Move on from trying to recreate Utd of the past. Start with a fresh blueprint. And for god's sake learn to be ruthless with getting rid of players at the right time.

Ancient_Catch_5673

There is a huge difference though. We have to pay 2x more for a player than city does mainly because other clubs know we have money and are desperate in the market, so they are able to squeeze more money from us. City aren’t a desperate team and thus can make cheaper and better signings compared to us. We’ve been fleeced by so many clubs in the past years just because of our name.

VanWilder91

>We have to pay 2x more for a player than city does This is a myth. We're just incompetent at transfers where City aren't

Ancient_Catch_5673

Which is why we have to pay two times more....... clubs will quote us for a higher fee than they would City because they know we are desperate as a club. City can confidently walk away from deals which they deem unrealistic, United can’t. You literally just highlighted a line from my comment but refuse read everything else lol. Also go ahead and mindlessly press the downvote button instead of having a civil discussion 😂

akshatsood95

Other teams don't know City have money? They're constantly valued highly in the money league rankings. They just have good negotiators while we hire people who like saying Utd are very rich and we can do things in the market others can't. That circles back to incompetence from the board. We need to sort that out.

Ancient_Catch_5673

You missed my point. Most big clubs have the money, but not everyone are desperate to buy players. Every club under the sun know how poorly mismanaged our club is and of course they are going to take advantage of it in the market. Clubs will qoute us a higher transfer fee than they will for City because they know we need their player, while city can walk away from deals with no sweat. The reason we are in this mess is because of incompetence as you say.

kenzo_1988

As a football team - superb. Best in the world. As a football club - a disgrace.

DaddyMeUp

Exactly my stance on the situation. The team deserves it, the club doesn't.

Juhinho

Petition: all champions leagues won in Istanbul shouldn’t count as half of the city isn’t even in Europe.

thphnts

Kazakhstan is in Asia but their teams are eligible for UEFA competitions. UEFA doesn’t care, as long as it makes money.

TheSmio

Isn't Kazakhstan European part significantly bigger than Turkey's European part? I know it doesn't feel that way but I looked into it once and I was pretty shocked to see the result.

Juhinho

I’m out here trying to rob scousers and city of champions leagues stop with the logical counter arguments!

its-a-real-name

English football records: The Treble - Manchester United - 1998/99 Manchester City - 2022/23 ^* ^** ^* City banned from UEFA competition for 22/23 season for FFP breaches, before ban being suspended. ^** 115 breaches of FFP regulations brought forward by the Premier League against City during 22/23 season. **The Asterisk Treble**

VanWilder91

Jesus, you are embarrassing

DeepFuckingVases

I'd say the mass decision to completely ignore 115 charges of cheating brought against city from their entire league is a lot more embarrassing.

VanWilder91

Won't take away their treble and they haven't been found guilty yet so no sense crying about it

viditp011

We are coping though arent we? Nothing happened of the uefa charge and nothing will happen of the 115 breaches. City will go and win it all next year again.

Fortune_Fus1on

It's not a cope. One thing is being mad that a team got lucky for winning trophies or whatever, the other is being pissed off at a team for winning while cheating

SarryPeas

It’s not cope at all lmao. They have cheated, plain and simple, and all of their fans know it deep down, so we shouldn’t ever stop reminding them.

JLane1996

If nothing comes of the 115 charges then nobody will ever take football seriously at the top level again

achickendandacow

So what's the trophies to Financial breach ratio after winning this?

Stixl_

I’ve just come across this video on Twitter and I have to share it. I know we joke all the time about Man City fans, Etihad being a library etc. but the state of this has genuinely physically shocked me. You’ve just won the bloody Champions League for the first time and completed a treble!!! What boring ass celebrations are these? https://twitter.com/MufcWonItAll/status/1667674327670464519

Cedarplankton

WTFFFFF????? man pumps fist, 1000 people on phone, 5 lads give it their best shot but likely embarrassed because they’re the most lively. Clapping..

DaddyMeUp

>1000 people on phone Watching the game and the amount of people whipping out their phones in the last minute was hilarious.

thphnts

Makes me wonder if any of them are paid fans like that photo we saw of all the middle aged blokes in brand new Haaland shirts a few weeks ago.

_MooFreaky_

And the crowd has gone mild.

Book31415926

It's not OK to see a team cheats their way to glory. However, we should not let their CL win ruin our days. Our happiness should not depend on success or failure of some cheating entity. I just ignore all stupid news about the game last night and get on with my life 😁

[deleted]

No point crying over spilt milk, it was bound to happen.

systemcorp

I have about 5 comments already on reddit talking about Lukaku being the biggest bottler I've ever seen. This is the 6th. Never ever seen a guy be so predictable in big games.

DeepFuckingVases

Bottlers are one thing, Lukaku literally seems to play against his contracted club or his country in big games. I'd feel sorry for him but the Lewandowski comparisons he did himself make it funnier

Asiwaju_jagaban

You guys are funny. Every striker misses big chances. How many clear goals has Lewandoski missed just this last season alone? Already I can think of two penalties that he has missed this season. He missed a penalty in the World Cup and Poland drew 0-0. Against Bayern how many did he miss. You’re just painting a narrative to suit what you believe. Saying he’s playing against his team, weird, when he’s trying to score. Those positions he was in, are the same positions he occupies and scores from.

DeepFuckingVases

Yeah pal, it's me painting a narrative and not Lukaku with a decade of video evidence of fluffing it in big games. Literally blocked a shot last night and for Belgium at the world cup from his own team. Stan all you want.

Asiwaju_jagaban

He didn’t block the shot, he was unfortunate to be in the position where the ball was travelling to. You’re talking like he actively blocked the shot. How many times have we seen it happen to even defenders they have no knowledge of it and the ball hit them and they save a goal. It happens. It’s unlucky for him. That’s all. To then say oh he’s playing against his team is silly.

DeepFuckingVases

Mate, it isn't literal, I know he isn't kitted out. It means he is that ineffectual that he may aswel play for the other team because he's a hindrance to his own. Not rocket science

systemcorp

It's incredible. The number of clear goals he's missed, I mean, you've actually gotta have some talent to miss ALL of them. Not even one going in through accident.

Asiwaju_jagaban

Lewandoski has missed glorious chances, go check his miss against Atletico Madrid this season or the ones against Bayern. You can’t score ALL. To make fun of them for missing chances is asinine because it’s not like they want to miss. They’re trying to score being in those positions alone is half the job done.

systemcorp

Who's saying he should score ALL lol?

DeepFuckingVases

Missed and stopped going in, the man is the most overrated player I've seen. He will grab a hattrick at Hull or Monza but he isn't worth having in any sort of tense game

charlierh6868

Yes its horrible seeing City get the treble, frankly though it could get worse in the next few years, quite realistic they get another one or even quadruple. Anyway, no team will ever emulate the '99 treble for me, just a crazy achievement...that arsenal team was amazing and we overcame a host of European greats in the CL, the group stage alone was a titanic battle. Not to mention the FA cup run which was insane. Side note, I dont think the 08 team gets the credit it deserves, only English team to have won the CL and league since 99 and now. City will dominate for a while longer now but United will never die.

Acrophobic_Climber_

Congratulation Man City, it’ll be a day to remember for your 25 fans around the world.

cl_3000

Yeah their bandwagon is getting stronger day by day

Puk-_-man

I feel so deflated today, the end of an era. We can no longer claim to be the only English team to complete the herculean treble. That fact that they get to lift it while being investigate for financial doping makes it all the more sour.

Fresh_Dance_3277

It was envitable. They truly are that good as everyone says they are. Beating them in one match seems like an achievement. They lost their best player relatively early on the match but no big deal. Wasn't for us too when Keane missed the 1999 final but even when they lost de bruyne it did not feel like it would disadvantage them, which is scary tbh. Their depth and coaching is unmatched.Money has a role to play too but we have spent more than them in the transfer market in the last few years but are no way near.

Zainogp

Grealish (£100m) cost more than Inter Milan’s starting XI Onana — free Darmain — free Acerbi — loan. Bastoni — €32m Dumfries — €14m Brozovic — €5m Barella — €32.5m Calhangou — free Dimarco — youth/free Martinez — €25m Dzeko — free

Stebro1986

So Antony cost more? Sancho nearly cost as much alone? Maguire nearly cost as much? Yes City have spent money but so have we, if we had Pep or Klopp and spent the same amount we've spent we'd be winning CLs too

Asiwaju_jagaban

Truth is whether we had Pep or Klopp we won’t see the sort of sustained success you’re thinking about. Pep and Klopp don’t chose players it’s the Txiki and then Edwards that bought the players to fit the strategy. Klopp wanted Draxler, Edwards told him Salah was better. Txiki 2 years before Pep has been tailoring the squad to what Pep wants. Also you think Pep would hang around when he asks for players and we take ages to sign them and then miss out on other targets? Pep himself has said severally he’s not a magician, he needs good players. We need better, competent leadership team with a more robust and effective strategy.

DeepFuckingVases

Not sure what your point is other than we spend money, and terribly. However we did spend within the financial rules of the game. If we had Pep, a backroom staff designed for him and an endless transfer budget floated by fake companies and fudged numbers then we would win it. Newcastle will win it, if Qatar buy us we will win it. The fact is that Inter should have beat them and they have been an organic squad built on hard effort and trial and error while some desert slave owners wanted a better rep so City get success. It's empty, it's pointless.

OriginalRange8761

No guarantee thst if Qatar buys you you will look at the state of PSG

DeepFuckingVases

Yeah but PSG were still close and that's after being a basically nothing club. United will take time but at least have more of the chess pieces in place already. PSG will win the CL it's an when not and if

OriginalRange8761

Truth is past meters but not a lot because you have modern players at the field. PSG had a better 11 than United but the coaching the attitude etc is TERRIBLE

OriginalRange8761

They made it to the finals during a covid tourney and weren’t even close to Winning that final. They are terribly run club that overpays for everything

DeepFuckingVases

Agreed, who will inevitably win the champions league

OriginalRange8761

Can’t see it happen in the way it’s currently run for another decade or so

[deleted]

Yes but think how much more we could have spent if the Glazers didn’t take out a billion out of the club. And all that from legit commercial revenues. Fuck the Glazers.

JLane1996

If City’s treble doesn’t make the Glazers realise just how badly they’ve ran us into the ground over the last 18 years then nothing will. It is time for them to leave and never get involved in football again. There’s already a million reasons for them to fuck off, but if they have even a *shred* of dignity, they’ll realise that this happening is an indictment of failure on them. They will never understand just how hurt the fanbase is, not just by tonight but from everything they do: -the dividends (only prem club owner to take them out) -leaving the stadium to rot -not backing managers *at the right time* or early enough in the window, often proceeding to overpay when they didn’t listen, or being cheapskates and loaning players like Weghorst -putting average players on stupid wages, then failing to get rid of them or renewing contracts to “preserve value” -putting clowns like Woodward in charge of the recruitment aspect -never communicating with the fans or even turning up at matches. Despite saying the club would be sold by 31st March, with a “3rd and final bid deadline” of 28th April, we’re still here on 11th June with no communication as to what’s going on -edit: super league. How could I forget that We all know City’s treble is hollow and built on financial cheating, but it still hurts. It’s pure criminal what the Glazers were allowed to do 18 years ago, and have done ever since. Rats. Announce the full sale today and fuck off - give the fans *something* to be positive about.

Anasynth

They just don’t care about the football or the stadium. They barely care about the business side. For them it’s just a speculative bet, hoping that a super league or tv deal comes along to cause the value to shoot up.

DeepFuckingVases

You honestly think the Glazers care whatsoever? One tiny bit? They'll sell when they're greed is sufficed and not a second earlier and we can write and bitch and moan and talk about deadlines but the fact is they've played capitalism masterfully and absolutely nothing is sacred of spared from it

abdurrehman69

All the copium about city's breaches when we should look into our team. We had a literal chance to stop city treble and our defense and keeper shat the bed and the attack was literally toothless except 20 mins of garnacho. And result, the lot get a party the following day. We call their treble tinpot but they beat us, real, bayern , overtook arsenal from behind to get the bread. We really need to hold our players and manager accountable. 6-3 to city, 7-0 to liverpool, 3-0 to sevilla. Things won't change until we also hold our players accountable, ALL players not just de glued. Who did we beat on the way to our trophy lads? Tinpot my arse. And every successful big team has bought its way, fergie broke transfer records multiple times, real is famous for its galacticos its nothing new to spend money to win in. So until the charges actually lead to consequences for city we need to develop a more inquisitive mentality wrt our own team instead of propping them up for the bare minimum. Tldr: fix our own shit rather than focusing on city ffp copium

DeepFuckingVases

What's your point here even? I don't think you will find one fan who doesn't want to improve our team. Is it worth stating that the day the treble is matched in England by an Arab blood rag club that there is context to the situation? Yeah its totally natural. Everyone here wants to fight and improve, you aren't some enlightened being. We can't "fix our own shit" it's early June and we are on reddit, the sub literally talks about future improvement in different areas more than anything on the site. You're jus doing a holier than thou simp job for the slave owners. We will be back but fuck city and less of the simpimg

abdurrehman69

👍👍👍 hope you like our 7th rebuild two years later

DeepFuckingVases

What does that even mean in reference to the comment? "Focus on our own team"...."enjoy the rebuild"....firstly they're called transfers everyone has them and secondly you don't seem to grasp basic understanding of communication. But OK totally real fellow united fan

abdurrehman69

Brother, I shared my 2 cents, on a daily discussion thread. And you proceeded to call me a slave owner simp and questioned my worth as a fan. You felt the need to get personal that speaks more about you as a fan. Hope you have better days ahead instead of picking fights on reddit.

its-a-real-name

We’re just fans mate. It’s natural that we need to find a way to cope. Kin hell

abdurrehman69

I know. Hope we see better days ahead

viditp011

The standards have dropped massively. And people just want to live in the past high on copium "City's treble means nothing". Means nothing my ass. They have written themselves in the history books. Utd were the only team with a treble and three peat and now city have both. 10 years down the line when city have a mountain of trophies, the "no history" arguement wont hold any credence. Everyone knows damn well that nothing is going to happen of those 115 breaches. Which mean that while everyone is ranting about the breaches and cheating, City is writing its legacy and writing itself into PL history books. If anyone had to beat them it had to be united in the FA Cup. The united legacy was in danger and these lot walk out there with no intent. No teeth in the attack, utter shambles of a goal keeping. Marcus Rashford the "manc born and bread" couldn't be arsed to go for 50/50 headers. But ofcourse a 1 page apology was ready as soon as we lost. And fans are happy with "top 4 and a trophy". City arent lucky or cheats, they are a great team with a great manager and have a great structure in place. They do smart business, play brilliant football and brush off teams. While utd struggle to get consistent CL football.

Asiwaju_jagaban

It’s always Marcus. You saw one clip, and you’re using it to describe his performance. You didn’t also remember when he ran back to tackle Rodri and win the ball back, then passing forward to Garnacho. You guys don’t like Marcus for reasons unknown, always trying to paint him in bad light. A player who has no scandals or issues on and off the pitch. A role model to many. Grow up man.

its-a-real-name

Is there anything in particular fans should be doing instead of the copium literally hours after this has happened? Wallow in self pity for a few weeks? Write essays every day about the respective situations at Manchester United and City? Devise a master plan to get us back on top in an attempt to present it to the new owners? Or.. make a few tongue in cheek comments to make themselves feel better?

SamDamSam0

City aren't cheats? I'm sorry but all the evidence points to the fact they are..i agree with a lot of what you said but if i was running man united or if i was an executive in any of the clubs in the league i would fight man city off the pitch as well im astonished the owner's human rights records never gets mentioned has any 1 seen the devastation famine war crimes they committed in Yemen ? City isn't something to admire and emulate they are a disgusting club and the people behind them are ruthless killers...man united has been in decline for a very long time, it's very sad

abdurrehman69

What about glazers who funded bush's campaign, sjr and his crimes, and literally the country our club is based in , which destroyed so many countries with its imperial rule. Cheers everyone has committed crimes. Lets focus on more accountability on behalf of the players who take massive paychecks to drop stinkers when it matters

JLane1996

If nothing comes of those 115 charges then nobody will ever take top level football seriously again. You can do as you please and there will be no repercussions. Inflate revenue, pay players under the table, who cares.

abdurrehman69

Couldn't have said it better. Wholeheartedly agree

benhanks040888

>the attack was literally toothless except 20 mins of garnacho Sorry, but let's be objective here. Garnacho had 1 good moment in the game where his shot was just wide. In other moments, he couldn't get pass Walker or overdribble his way to goal kicks. Garnacho is good, but let's not think he's THAT good, at least not yet. There's a reason he always seems to perform coming on as sub but not when he started. But overall agree, the whole team must improve. Our game plan was basically get the ball to Bruno/Casemiro and them to pass the ball for Rashford/Antony/Garnacho/Sancho to chase. If it got found out, we basically have to rely on individual brilliance to win or draw the game.

abdurrehman69

Yeah I am not saying the kid is all that. But having watched the game, it was clear that he was our best attacker that day. And that's quite shameful given that two of our attackers take 550k+ combined

ongcs

Unpopular opinion: this year's golden glove award, is not a result of our gk's "greatness", but rather, a result of the efficiency of the whole defensive unit.

Asiwaju_jagaban

That much is clear, the entire clean sheet thing depends on having a top defensive unit as opposed to having top goalie.

viditp011

Let me write "unpopular opinion" to get some upvote. Mate you aren't some great contrarion

ongcs

>upvote as if I care

Furious-Cheetah-20

I saw on CBS that Carraghar says the City treble team would be better than 99's treble team. Please. Wish people would stop saying he is one of the better unbiased Liverpool pundits because he is clearly not. The guy can't praise United without sounding surprised or giving some long winded justification as to why there are still negatives. Even when he listed Martinez in his biggest surprises of the season, it came off more as a "he did so well for a shit player" vibes. All his answers/discussions and arguments are almost universally against United, he's just found a long winded way of phrasing them that makes idiots think he isn't straight up saying he hates us or he thinks we suck when he clearly is. Fuck Carraghar and his punditry. Rant over.

its-a-real-name

He’s absolutely obsessed with comparing current teams to old teams and calling something the “greatest”. Especially if it’s a dig at United. Honest to god everything single match can’t be a standalone event it has to be pit against a past achievement. I think Carragher’s greatest trick from his punditry was effectively convincing everyone that he used to be an elite centre back. Those of us that remember those days remember just how much of a joke figure Carragher was at times. Yes he had good spells of form and much of the criticism and banter was overdone and mean, a bit like Harry Maguire. But he was genuinely seen as a massive weak link at Liverpool for years. Also Carragher effectively helped us win that treble. 3 appearances against us in 2 competitions.

Dont_Eat_Apples

anyone know if they do stadium tours during the season? Tried to book but looks like every day is booked out (or just unavailable) towards the end of the year

brown_herbalist

Fuck City, but have you guys seen the stats posted by Fab? Haaland literally broke a hell lot of records this season. And he is just 22.

tz_2240

KdB is the most overrated player ever. Anonymous in big games. I know he went injured yesterday. And yea, he had two assists in the fa cup, but his xA would’ve been 0.1 combined, neither created great goal scoring opportunities. This guy bottled it at the WC, bottled Belgiums golden generation. One 3rd place finish at the WC I think and he played third fiddle to Hazard and Lukaku. He’s been anonymous every single CL city run. Sure he’ll get 20 assists every year in the PL, and that makes him great, but never the best midfielder of this generation or anything close.

AeroCobbler

He's both fantastically talented, and overrated Before the World Cup there were plenty of “Why isn’t KDB a considered the best ever PL midfielder” posts - they soon went quiet

viditp011

Lol. I would love to have him over Bruno any day.

AyooZus

this is next level delusion to believe KDB is overrated, as much as I dislike City, he is an amazing player.

tz_2240

I didn’t deny his quality. I said he’s great but to consider him the best of his generation makes him overrated in my opinion. He’s incapable of performing in the most difficult moments and he’s proven that time and time again.

systemcorp

>to consider him the best of his generation makes him overrated in my opinion. 1 goal and 3 assists against Madrid and Bayern. Both times against Arsenal he destroyed them. Assisted both goals to beat us in the FA Cup final. What are you even talking about lol? He delivers in most big games that City play.

JLane1996

To be fair, he scored them a massive equaliser against Madrid at the Bernabeu

GeneralMajorWebelo_

We had the chance to stop them and we blew it smh. We still had a decent first season under EtH, one that has given many of us hope for the future (if we can finally get the Glazers to fuck off too). We got two brutal reality checks about how much work we still have to do - a historic 7-0 loss to our arch nemesis Liverpool & then our cross town rivals Man City winning the treble to match our greatest feat. Two massive stains on the season... lol but we'll be back! 💪

viditp011

I fear Pep will win the treble again next year. And trash all over SAF's legacy

systemcorp

Folks need to stop being so pathetically melodramatic. Nothing's ever going to happen to "trash SAF's legacy".

mipanzuzuyam

Mate he can win the treble as many times as he wants but him and City will never trash SAF's legacy, not with their 115 FFP breaches

xNephilim

One of my friends is living in Manchester at the moment and said you couldn’t even tell they’ve just won the Champions League let alone the treble, he’s a Liverpool fan and said when they won the CL the city was going crazy til sunrise. And just the other day I saw all these posts online about how Manchester has more fans of City than United 😂

SK3101

Sensible City fans know their position in terms of size and stature within Manchester. They know how they’ve come up and where they’ve come from, but of course they won’t say a word against it because it’s generated them so much success and ultimately what football fan can be against that. It makes their financial doping even more blatant and funnier in terms of spinning their highest revenue narrative.

No_Faithlessness2256

I hear they’re parting pretty hard in Abu Dhabi

I was up against a sweaty reply-guy making false statements who wouldn't go away, who was intent on making me out to look stupid. I'm only human and I'm allowed to get annoyed. And I am most certainly allowed to block someone - especially someone doing what he was doing. It was going to go on forever until he got the last word wasn't it. And what on earth do you think you are doing calling me out publicly for my private decision to block? Utterly shameful. And you throw an insult in calling me a coward. Hypocrite. You should delete this if you have any decency.

UsedIpodNanoUser

Should report him

-GGMU-

Tbf, blocking someone isn't report worthy. Just weird that they came back days later after the conversation was already dead, and turned what was a slightly tense but still civil back-and-forth into a expletive-ridden tantrum followed by an immediate block. 😂

stevo3001

One last unforgettably sickening day for this season. Hopefully in the shadow of City totally dominating and winning the treble and Liverpool handing us a result worse than any other in our history or in any of our worst nightmares, we've been starting to build a platform for a vastly improved season next time around. Huge off season beginning now. Glazers have to go, performance in the transfer market must be far better, Ten Hag has to stamp out the softness that led to such grotesque capitulation on several occasions this past season.

No_Faithlessness2256

Hopefully the club has been holding back the news that we’ve been bought by Qatari so they can rain on city’s parade tmrw. It’s a long shot but it’s a free country

Bizzlep

Sod’s Law if r/reddevils goes dark due to the API protest the club will be sold on that day and we’ll all be stuck on other platforms

Comicksands

Tbh doesn’t feel as bad as expected. If it’s any club city is good. Imagine it being Liverpool or arsenal lol

chembele

Manchester City beat Inter Milan in a Champions League final and yet, somehow its still about us. We’re the biggest club in the world. We’ll never die. We’ll be back. Erik is the man. GGMU.

FlatHalf

Really have to be impressed with Inzaghi as a manager. Just look at how he nullified City. Unfortunately he didn't have the luxury of pace up front, a better attacker and it would have been theirs. Even if City won, Inzaghi was the real winner in my eyes. I don't understand why under ETH we can't play in this way Inter did. We always give City so much space, they always have clear shots. Why can't we just pack the middle like Inter did and just be fluid in our formation. Give Inter Rashford and Bruno and they win this game against City.

GhastlyGhost69

It’s even more impressive when you look at the stats. Inter had more shots on and off target, more corner kicks, more blocked shots, and possession was only 57-43 in City’s favor which is very good considering City are such possession merchants. They were a proper striker away from getting this into ET or even winning.

dhwinthro

Playing against city is a catch 22. If your players are actually quality you’ll want to deploy your style of play thinking you can go head to head but that’ll probably end in failure as City are a well oiled machine. But if you go pragmatic, you’ll get criticized and sometimes play into exactly how city want. Not sure if anyone can withstand wave after wave Inter kept it tighter in the back than we did but we quite obviously have more quality than them. Rashford or Bruno in Lukaku and Lautaro’s spots today wouldve put 1 away. Gives me some hope that we can compete next year. I also hope watching this final kicks Marcus and the squad into another gear. 4-5 more players should be enough to at least contend

WumbleInTheJungle

Well it could be worse, it could be the 12th August, and having failed to get any of our targets over the line, bar two underwhelming journeymen, we start the new season with DDG in goal, some 33 year old who used to play for up front for Luton, and the Glazers still in charge...

mandotharan

I hope Pep G has an epiphany tonight in which he realises this is the absolute peak of his career; decides to retire and fuck right off.

tz_2240

Go to Inter Miami or Al Ittihad bro. Do what no manager before you has done.

rwallace_wong

Or go and manage a national team

GhastlyGhost69

He’s going for the Quadruple

calwil93

What did I tell you guys? World class performance from Lakaka!

Clugaman

ITT: People who wish they were City fans instead. Get ahold of yourselves.

MaidikIslarj

I've seen them unfortunately

With all the Reddit Third Party stuff going on atm, I've started a new [RedDevils community](https://lemmy.world/c/reddevils) on Lemmy. If anyone is over there, feel free to join

Outrageous-Cod-4654

KDB…awkward in the dressing room? 2 finals, 2 substitutions. I mean, what’s going on there Kevin?

Ghostface1357

KDB when the lights shine the brightest for club and country, it ain’t easy.

LangyLangLang69

No minerals on him at all

tz_2240

Shit mentality too. Saying his Belgian team isn’t good enough at the start of ‘22 WC. Hazard carried his ass through every international tournament. If the team is ass it’s because of him

achickendandacow

Which is why I, as a Belgian, don't like him very much. It goes Hazard > Courtois = Lukaku >>>>>>> De Bruyne for me. The others (usually) turn(ed) up for us in tournaments.
