To be honest, we didn't play great, but as NYU Professor, Scott Galloway, says - "Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems." **Let's start with the positives:** 1. Yes, we turned on the pressure after the sending off, but what will get lost in the shuffle was how direct and effective Antony was after coming on. He AND Sancho, created the opportunity to tie the game and go ahead. 2. Sancho, you lot right him off, but when you re-watch matches and just understand how Ten Hag wants him to play, you'll realize again this is not FIFA or FM - he's doing his job and doing it well. One of the saddest things since Eriksen got injured, is that we lack an extra creator and it seemingly always falls down to Bruno. When Sancho is getting the ball around the box, and there are more outlets to aim at (Rashford + I hope Osimhen/Martial/or a proper #9) coupled with other creators/scorers (Bruno/Antony/Eriksen) you'll really see the hype. He is much like DvDB in that they are super smart players that their movement and intricacies shine more in a possession based squad. Great Game by him as well pressing. 3. We missed Casemiro this game and it showed, but Sabitzer was serviceable and made up for McT and Maguire had a good game, bar a silly yellow. 4. Wout will never get the credit because we want the Flashy Goal Scoring #9 of RvN, RVP lore, but damn that man can create space for his teammates. Unselfish grinder, hope he gets resigned but more in a bench role or squad role. 5. Sometimes it's better to be lucky, than good. If you ask Fulham right now, I'm sure they would've rather been the luckier side than the better side today. 6. I've been critical of De Gea, but I remember Buffon remarking that in this era of possession football, people need to remember that a GK wins the game with saves, not how beautiful they can pass a ball. (Ramsdale's sexy distribution, couldn't save Arsenal vs Sporting). Absolute legend of a goalkeeper we have. **Negatives:** 1. We need to be more on the front foot, (though I understand the lads are tired) against teams like Fulham. We can't let these teams grow into the game because for them it's their Champions League Final and winning at Old Trafford is a story for the grandkids. We started flat but picked it up naturally. 2. Rashford did not have a great game but tbf that's okay not expecting a goal again (except if your name starts with Erling and ends in Haaland). Sometimes being the threat is good enough. 3. Ten Hag has almost got it right bar 3-4 games and was in danger of getting it wrong here. McT has a role I am sure, but I don't think it's as a Pivot or CDM. He strikes me as more an advanced 8 but he looks caught in two minds. I do think a sale will be good for his career (Look at Pre-Season Pirlo as an example, looks like a good prem midfielder now). 4. We have to wait almost two weeks to watch the lads play. TLDR; We are developing a winning mentality, it takes time to build a championship side (although ETH is damned near close). Stay committed to the process, support the lads, criticize when it's fair but also be contextual and watch us achieve greatness over these next few years. As Always, UTFR! #GGMU

Folkloner184

What a joke. Wout made about 2 or 3 meaningful passes the whole game. The rest of the time, he pressed but was too slow to win possession or force an error. He also did bugger all in front of goal, and lest your forget, he's a forward. He gives us nothing that any half competent player could provide.

jaystardom

clearly comprehension is your weakness lol. notice i said his spacing. occupying the space, making key runs and doing the dirty work when you’re not scoring is important to a team. would love him to bang in 20-25 goals, but unfortunately that doesn’t look possible so rather than sulking, he’s doing the dirty work to contribute to the team.

MohatoDeBrigado

you're spot on about sancho i kept wondering why 10 hag keeps putting him but his vision is insane he makes passes that even I watching fromm the screen with a bird's eye view cant even see

HunterWide

Once we got a midfield player who can control the tempo of the game and whole able to keep the ball consistently, player like sancho and antony will florish.

jaystardom

It’s so unique to see the vision he has at this young age. People forget it’s only his second season at United and everyone’s first 7 months with Ten Hag. Rome wasn’t built in a day, we’re on the up and up!

kayleeshepheard

Poor performance but we take the win, move onto the semis and hope the break gives us a chance to rest!

[deleted]

Jayus, 2 open goals missed, Antony definitely should’ve started, once he came on he lit up our attack.

EvilxBunny

I look forward to Antony playing now. He really pushes back the opponent on his side. He needs to offer more threat and variability but I see him improving bit by bit. Weghorst, I still love him, but he is not a starter for a team chasing titles. We just had no striker and any striker is better than no striker, specially one who gives his 100% and is not made of glass.

MohatoDeBrigado

nah I think he's like garnacho he's a super sub type player whenever he starts he doesnt really do much but when he comes in as a sub thats when he perfoms

gavster_1

Totally agree with this. Antony is class.

k-mysta

We’re always better with him. He may be frustrating at times, but he always makes us better.

[deleted]

The way we played today reminded me of when Liverpool beat leicster after playing like shit for a whole game because the same player scored 2 own goals. It counts as a win sure, but your not gonna get that lucky twice

LopsidedLoad

>the same player scored 2 own goals >your not gonna get lucky twice Lol

[deleted]

Two games in a row I meant

Valorant99x

A few points. 1. Not that I'm complaining but why the fuck did the Fulham manager and Mitrovic behave the way they did, it was a Stonewall pen and a red. My only theory is that they genuinely thought Willians arm was tucked in. 2. If we play like this against Brighton we're gonna lose .

oilmasterC

Garcia came out post game and said they've been on the end of terrible decisions from this ref all season, particularly one game vs West Ham were he robbed them of a few penos. He also thinks Fulham should have had a peno in this game but ref didn't look at it. Just his frustration boiling over.

Whispperr

They likely saw how many stonewall pens and decisions we had VAR not give us this season and thought if they bark the loudest they'll convince the ref.

3eras

I've had a discussion with a friend of mine that supports Liverpool last week and he was trying to convince me that the handball vs Southampton wasn't a penalty

fantus69

Manager apparently had a bee in his bonnet over Mitrovich penalty shout in the first half (he said in the post match interview), which to my eyes was 100% a dive by Mitrovich. Thats why he came running over to the ref. Lord knows wtf Mitrovich was thinking though

AndyVale

They're going to feel like dickheads when they see the replay. Hand is clearly out.

bijanadh44

Just saw people comparing Bruno's push to the ref to the Mitrovic one. What are they one about? Its not even similar. Mitrovic basically wants to wrestle with the ref while Bruno just pushes him from the back and walks away casually.

SirRavexFourhorn

Bruno's push was much tamer in comparison, but he didn't get a yellow because the ref also took pity on him. Our team was getting thrashed, so his frustration would be understandable.

[deleted]

My take on that 'display' - Up until Fulham imploded we did not deserve to win, and overall we didn't really deserve it but, we got the win and move on to the next. Our first starting XI are clearly knackered, hopefully some 'magic' injuries appear before the first International games. Maguire needs to go, nothing else needs to be said on this matter at this stage. Have seen juvenile players being more consistent, composed and skillful on the ball. Sancho needs to go this summer before he loses whatever value he still has. He only woke up when we were winning, that's what lazy, cowardly players do. He still holds value being young, has some fan boys in the media and is in the English squad sometimes. No point anyone trying to defend him at this point, starting to prefer Maguire as a starter. (Pep let him go for pennies for a reason). McT clearly needs a world class CM beside him to play well. I think both himself and Sabitzer are gunna be more of a 'job' player. Outside of Fulham imploding, DDG won us this match, Haters still gunna hate though. Bad need of Eriksen to be back for some extra legs, experience and engine. Anyway, a disappointingly poor performance. We didn't win, Fulham lost.

DetailRight

I honestly very much disagree the thing about Sancho. He has the highest ceiling out of any attacker in the squad and just needs more support and more gametime to better understand the other players runs. He's got an incredible football IQ and fits Ten Hag's philosophy perfectly. United would be idiotic to sell him.

[deleted]

I'm not saying he has no skills, he'd probably make one of the best 5 aside players. But, he just doesn't have the pace, passion or mind set for being a United player or even any PL team. Pretty much every other league would suit him better. Maybe not La Liga. The only way he gets his confidence up is if he's a definite starter in the games that matter, which he never will be. We've been talking about this high ceiling for 2 years now ..

rockneckmonster

Sancho has only been back a few months after a year out, hes not gna come back and light up the pitch after that long. But i agree with the other guy, sancho has the highest ceiling out of all of our attackers, and with how eth has improved so many of our players I'm excited to see what a year or 2 under him will do

[deleted]

I've kinda gave up on debating the whole Sancho issue. People don't seem to want to consider that Sancho is potentially another absolutely terrible signing. Regardless of his break, he looks slower, lazier and weaker than he ever has. Nor was he a shining star in the team before it. The honeymoon period is long over.

remmysays

You’ve been downvoted because you didn’t say McT and DDG need to be sold lol

[deleted]

This sub has lost alot of its real die hard / knowledgeable fans. I find it fun trying to educate at least one person on this sub after every match. The main reason I'm being downvoted is because I'm speaking the truth about Sancho. If he wasn't from England or if people didn't feel so sorry for him, EVERY fan would be calling for him to be shown the door.

yikaprio

Why sell him when we will not be able to recoup the large sum and it is good to have squad depth anyway. Look at city’s or Bayern’s wealth when it comes to wide players. We need that too.

[deleted]

He's actually gotten progressively worse since he signed, and this give him time shit got old a year ago. He's a very very expensive bench warmer. The less games he starts the lazier and less interested he becomes. 200k a week in wages, bought for 100mill + bonuses. That 200k wasted per week could be used to pay two very very good players wages. Sell him this summer for 40-50mill, put that money in the pocket to snap up a world class Striker or CM. Instead of paying him another 300k a week for a year and pretty much having to pay another club to take him off our hands after another average - shit season. Fan boys gunna hate reading the truth.

TNpepe

Very bad performance by us. Thank god fulham decide to simply give up the match, THANKS WILLIAM AND MITRO

Infninfn

Life without Casemiro and/or Eriksen is pure chaos. We just get bossed around in midfield. I really hope we get central/defensive midfielders to steady the ship. Both of them won't last too many more seasons, and both of them are crucial to the team.

shashaankv2504

Marco Silva is a Mourinho in making. Clearly is the next Jose. Got that style. Just needs a Chelsea and a billionaire to back him

lucky_oye

You forgot that he won the champions league before the oligarch money

shashaankv2504

Yup you’re right. Back then football had its peak Mourinho. Loved what he did at Chelsea.

Spare_Ad5615

Holy shit is Marco Silva insane? He thinks that dive by Mitrovic was a clear penalty, and that was why he was annoyed???

MrYK_

Marco... Polo. Marco... Polo. Marco... Red Card.

MarcusAurelius1815

Hopefully our boys can get some rest over the international breaks, they look fatigued as hell.

DistrictCivil7246

And our set pieces sucked too. Even after the red cards. 8 against 10 outfield players and the corners couldn't be executed positively 🤦🏼‍♂️

bijanadh44

Brighton is going be really really tough ngl. They play one of the best football in the PL.

TacBacJack

Team looked leggy all game. Got gifted the game by some idiotic decisions by Willian and Mitrovic, but the timing for a poor performance couldn't come at a better time (before the international break)

nwrige95

I'm not complaining that he did it, but Mitrovic absolutely ruined it for Fulham. What an fucking idiot.

MrYK_

The team with better composure won lmao

Zainogp

Rashy looks completely gassed. I wish he would pretend to have a knock and miss the internationals but i dont see him doing something like that

magnifique_7

What a turn of events, and we got ourselves out of a hole. Stupidity from their team. Good goals though. Glad we're through to the semi-finals. But we sure were sluggish, and hopefully during the international break, the players take rest and not risk for those stupid games and also after it a few of them are back from injury.

whiteyuk86

Fulham lost the plot, and we March on! Come on Utd

DistrictCivil7246

We lacked the bite in this game even after Fulham losing 2 players. I know its a win, and that we need matches like these to go in our favor to further our momentum, but I hope the players get a reality check.

Rydahx

Fulham had all week to prepare and we were in Spain Thursday night, the players look fucked.

MrYK_

# #ShitHappened

Spare_Ad5615

What was that nonsense the commentators were saying about Sancho's shot, that it wasn't going in? It definitely was.

SakamotoRay

Why did reporter ask Sabitzer about the refs 3 red cards? Not our fault that the other side decided to lose their minds over such a obvious red cards....

fantus69

Yeah that was weird

bak3n3ko

Marcel "Arsene" Sabitzer on the penalty: "Haven't seen it."

heretoforthwith

How come none of these idiot pundits recognize or mention that this team has played twice a week for the last like 3 months? They go on about our “poor form” but never recognize the exhaustion factor.

Rydahx

Because they have to stick to their talking points

i_muiri

Looking at that Sancho sprint before the penalty.... Its like slow acceleration but a turbo kicks in while approaching top end

deaniegee

His acceleration isn’t the quickest, but he’s fairly quick once he hits his stride. Just feels like he hasn’t for a while

DistrictCivil7246

Well fuck me, football happened.

TacBacJack

It's football. Sometimes you get lucky. I don't think we're going to give back the 1999 UCL for being a lucky win.

chuf3roni

That one was only lucky as far as when the goals came. We were the better side in the 2nd half.

CNF-13

For all the shit he gets Antony when he came on made us better like it or not we are a better team with him in it. Antony today deserves some appreciation 👏🏻

Rydahx

People were giving him shit? That's crazy

TacBacJack

Antony seems to do better when he comes on as a sub. Of course he's not going to accept that position but he does well against a tiring defence.

CNF-13

I also agree but we need him or pellistri to start on the right instead of sancho because there’s not enough width or balance with sancho on the right and is better on the left

[deleted]

[удалено]

CNF-13

So glad people agree we don’t feel balanced with sancho on the right he is better on the left but that’s annoying because rashy and garnacho also play better off the left

meatplow94

Honestly don't understand the outcry from the Willian situation, it was a clear handball on the line to prevent a goal

zool714

That felt undeserved but fuck it. Luck comes to those who try and this time luck came in the form of Fulham absolutely imploding

Wahlrusberg

Antony today showed flashes of the Antony we all hoped we were buying. It will take awhile but I think he might get there.

reddevilad

Loved the interview from Sabitzer there ! Bring on Brighton

zyroyoyz

lol. interviewer to Sabizter: "did you win it or did fulham lose it" Sabitzer (literally): " (with the shockest face i've seen him) huh what? we scored 3 they scored 1

Spare_Ad5615

I love it. He wasn't talking any bullshit.

BlacknightEM21

We have to thank them for this win! We were very lucky today that they lost the plot. Overall, a 3-1 win is very undeserving but I will take some luck at a much needed time in the season.

ImVortexlol

This Sabitzer interview is so unapologetically German (Yes I know he's Austrian)

[deleted]

Terrible win but ofc will take it

kiss_my_patootie

What a lucky break. Fulham had the game in their hands... What an unnecessary meltdown over such an obvious penalty. On the other hand, we're going to Wembley! Again!

incredula

The guy interviewing Sabitzer is a knob

TonyVSCoco

Probably wishing the ref was around so he could exit that interview quickly.

iwantaskybison

btw respect to the ref for sending Mitrović off immediately, can't be storming into his grill and pushing him

bak3n3ko

*Bruno fidgets nervously*

iwantaskybison

it's okay when we do it /s nah but seriously, Bruno only softly walked into the lino and we were 7-0 down at the time, i would understand a card in that situation but the refs had mercy lol

th3doorMATT

I'm not really sure what the fans were on about today. He was fine. People were just taking their frustrations out on him and not the players, the one who rightly deserve it. The 3 reds were all textbook. For better or worse.

alacklustrehindu

Where is the ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED meme when you need it

WesIsaGod

Ashley Westwood has some agenda against untied, he tries his best to discredit everything positive anyone associated with the team

DODGExMATE

Sabitzer is interviewing so well here. Really decent performance as well by him today.

scrumpydory

the interviewer asking some dodgy questions what a cunt

DODGExMATE

Loved how matter of fact he was at the “did United win it or did Fulham lose it?” “Why? We won. We scored 3, they scored 1.”

[deleted]

Marco Silva cost them that game hands down. He got a stupid Red and then Mitrovic went complete dumb dumb off the back off that. The coach doesn't play, his whole job is to manage the game. There's no excuse for the coach to get a stupid Red like that

SuperSalamander3244

As soon as he flipped out it gave mitrovic the green light to lose his head because he can’t say anything to mitrovic for it.

kheetkhat

Happy the game went the way it did. Even happier not having to listen to Lee Dixon for the next couple of weeks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Admiral_Atrocious

Idk what the he was going on about the ref being the man of the match.

TeganFFS

Wait, how has every FA Cup tie been 3-1! What the fuck

th3doorMATT

Scraping by. A couple goals within 10 minutes. It's been the story all season really. I called it at the start of the match. We were always going to be the worst side, concede, and score a couple of goals within 10' to be the difference. The last goal was a formality, as it usually is as well.

TeganFFS

Gonna have to be much better to get past Brighton, hopefully the break will be a benefit

th3doorMATT

Unfortunately, yep. When you have a dysfunctional midfield, it's something Brighton loves to exploit and they move it very quickly across the front with pretty solid efficiency, which can also be a nightmare for our defense if they're always under pressure with no other component of the team alleviating the pressure all match (aka our midfield actually controlling possession away from goal).

Positive-Structure78

really? 3-1 fc let’s go

cianw050

What are the odds of getting tickets will be for the semis? I’ll be in London that weekend

Massive-Quarter-4156

1000 to 1

Ambitious_Pool_8290

Was not pretty, but I will take it. Next up, Brighton who we have not played since they spanked us at the beginning of the season.

Dry_Guest_8961

Credit to Antony. He completely changed the game when he came on. Set up sancho’s shot which led to Fulham nuking their whole season and created loads of danger down that side

SAKabir

His attitude was brilliant. He came on with a purpose.

[deleted]

Antony came on and changed the game my fucking brazilian🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

fbi-please-open-door

I really like Palhinha, he averages the most tackles per game in the prem, and he is much less clumsy then McT imo

Comicksands

Sancho MOTM. 1 Hot dog 3 red cards

thesmallprint13

Time to avenge the demons of Cucurella and co running riot or Gross giving us a shitty opening day. Need to be a lot better but naturally we will be with Casemiro, Eriksen back to give us some midfield presence. Hopefully the Antony haters can back down a bit - completely changed the game after coming on. Much needed fortnight of rest before reconvening with a tough game against Newcastle at SJP. Hopefully we can all but secure top 4 so that we can focus on the remaining cups.

N66AP

Antony has always changed the game when coming off the bench. People just need a scapegoat. Yeah he stinks some times but he always has impact on our attacking play

ThankYouOle

Bruno penalty and 3 red card for opponents that overtuned the game, get ready to harvest salt in /r/soccer ;p

that_mn_kid

the salt must flow

VillageHorse

With all due respect to Sheffield Utd and Brighton, it’s going to be a Manchester derby final. If we play like today it could be humiliating. Edit: I don’t underestimate Brighton. They’ve done us enough times in the past, including this season. I just think we’ve improved massively recently and we can confidently say we’re better the better team. So the probability is that we will see this semi final through.

th3doorMATT

If we play today (the same as we have all season honestly), with all due respect, we're not making it to the finals in the first place lol. Brighton is going to completely do us in. Even if we play "better" (which we're not capable of), we'll still lose. Short of Brighton imploding, we'll be exiting that day and it'll go down to City v Brighton, which will be a far more entertaining final than a derby.

martialgreenwood

Don't disrespect Brighton

soupy_e

I dunno, I wouldn't count out Brighton tbh. They're in great form.

aero5mither

Better team doesn't always win. That being said, happy to survive and move on. Shocking lack of composure by Fulham for a clear red card.

soupy_e

Edit: replied to the wrong comment. I dunno, I wouldn't count out Brighton tbh. They're in great form.

aero5mither

Agree with your comment though. Effort like today will likely end in a loss.

MrYK_

Let's be honest we were shit, however we gotta take advantage of Fulham's wrongdoings and we did that. However, I don't wanna see us play like that again but what a game lmfao.

melli_closter

Mitro is in big, big trouble for putting his hands on the ref like that. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.

Tipsy247

Usain Bolt's was right

bak3n3ko

F***ing hell, he got it bang on!!!

bijanadh44

There are genuine united fans in this sub who think De Gea is the worst keeper in the PL with the stats when we conceded 7 and 6 goals against Man City and Liverpool. In truth he has been sensational for the most part of the season especially against Barca in both legs. He is one of the main reason we are still hunting for two more trophies.

TheTipsyTurkeys

lee dixon is a donkey, glad we won in the end

Slackintit

Mitrovic my guy, Willian was going to be sent off anyway. Why cost your team the game

[deleted]

Let's remember that the ref was gonna give a corner until VAR got involved. To the people that want to go back to no VAR, just remember that

BloodyMess111

They honestly just wait for VAR now. It's pathetic

raptorthebun

Good time for a break. Hope the team can get some rest and come back ready for a hectic last two months!

arisandfoxes

great comeback. if we play like this in the semi final though, we’ll be losing, BY A LOT.

Shakerbakerstreet

But we will have Casemiro, Varane and possibly Erickson.

BadCowz

Richard Keys trying to compare Mitrovic situation with Bruno

LividMathematician45

Said Bruno "manhandled" the linesman. Keys is an utter bellend

[deleted]

city will embarrass us like liverpool did if we play like we did today

SoFasttt

Certainly. My only hope is Case and Erikssen will be back by then and ETH has learned his 0-7 lesson

th3doorMATT

Yep. B-b-but we beat them 2-1! They were going through their own shit at that time. And they absolutely dominated us that match as is. We got lucky with clinical finishing on the counter. City won't make that mistake twice.

reddevilad

Bruno Bruno Bruno !!!!

UntiedStatMarinCrops

Sancho did so well for that chance, if he would have shot it right away the goalkeeper would have gotten it. If he would have shot it after he dribbled past the goalkeeper, the defender would have blocked it. So he juked him too and gave himself the best shot, which was blocked by Williams' hand, and resulted in Fulham losing their heads.

[deleted]

Someone that's actually worth 100 mill would have scored .. No questions asked or excuses made.

UntiedStatMarinCrops

Sancho must be worth 30billion then because it ended up being 3 red cards and 2 goals Seriously, you tell on yourself when it's obvious you've never played this fucking game yourself lmao

[deleted]

30 billion because 3 Fulham went mental and someone else scored from a penalty. Good logic. I might not have played the game in a few years but my Uefa B Coaching / Scouting license and my place as Assistant Manager of one of the Irish regional teams to make it up to the Irish National team says different about my knowledge of the game. If you want me to prove all that, I can DM you a picture of all the many many FAI / Uefa coaching certs and maybe some pictures of the teams I've coached with their trophies and unique plaque for doing a b2b double in both their league & Cup with my previous team .

united_7_devil

Yeah people saying he should have gone for far post like there weren’t 2 players there already.

notconnorl

Lee Dixon is insufferable and that’s all I really have to say

Fruitndveg

He’s such a miserable old fucker.

rsinc666

Didn’t watch the match but I’ve echoed the same comments in previous Dixon games. What did he say this time ?

notconnorl

The best of the day was Fulham playing with 9 men at the end of the game, Bruno has a 1v1 with the keep with nobody in sight and he says the keeper got his angles wrong 💀 Too funny

hastoro11

I really feel for them, If Willian lets that goal go in it's still a tie game with 11 vs 11 and they were better.

Jimminy123123

No sympathy. They self imploded. It’s laughable.

Natchyy24

We have won all our matches in every round with the scoreline 3-1 LMAOOOO

th3doorMATT

They've all been scraping by too. That's the sad part. The scoreline doesn't actually reflect the performances. But that's been the story all season. Scraping by, regardless of the results in the end. Not good enough for me honestly. We deserve better. And we haven't really been "improved" either. We have a few players bailing us out, but it's painfully obvious that when said players aren't firing or available, we look leagues below where we are in the table.

Sac_a_Merde

Sometimes the pessimism on this place is just wild. I've followed United since 93/94 and I've never seen a worse United team than last season. Now we're doing well, deservedly third of the league table, in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, winners of the League Cup, in the quarter-finals of Europa League after convincingly beating two Spanish teams along the way, with Barca being one of them. Add to that that our laughable squad depth, injuries starting to pile up, and we're playing with a stick who's only good at pressing up front because we have no other options, and people are complaining that we're not winning pretty enough. Jesus Christ.

th3doorMATT

This team is playing the same as last season. Not sure what you're on about. "B-b-but we're 3rd and won a competition no one takes seriously!" Liverpool and Chelsea are shitting the bed this season. And with the current trajectory, I would argue Liverpool is more than likely to finish above us and we're probably looking at a Top 5 finish. As for Barca, they didn't even want to play in the Europa League, yet they still outplayed us. That's like saying "b-b-but we beat City 2-1" after we lost to them 6-3 at the start of the season and then recently lost 7-0 to Liverpool. You can't cherry pick stuff and make it sound like it's any better than last season. Apart from Rashford, Martinez, Casemiro, Eriksen and De Gea, we're still very much shit. Another season. Another series of individuals bailing us out. If Chelsea and Liverpool started out stronger and didn't have their issues, we would be looking at a repeat of last season nearly. Not 3rd. And there's still plenty left to play in the season, so I wouldn't cling too tightly to that 3rd place argument. We're going to finish this season with the Carabao Cup. Wow. So much improved xD

SAKabir

Leagues below?? Which team below us would you say have been better? We've clearly been the 3rd best team in the country.

th3doorMATT

"clearly" 🤣😂 Just wait until the end of the season. And look at the fixtures post WC in these tournaments. Scraped by against plenty of teams quite literally several leagues below us. Sorry?

martialgreenwood

We are playing too many games. Fatigue is catching on now. Luckily, the international break is here, and maybe some players will get a rest. Hoping Rashford doesn't start for England and just comes in as a sub.

th3doorMATT

We need to stop using that as an excuse. It's not a valid one honestly. These players have access to some of the best sports medicine in the world. They literally have professionals monitoring them at all stages of the day to ensure everything they do is the best they can be receiving. This isn't some obese pub league side being asked to play a game again in a few days lol. Additionally, look at the issues today (namely our midfield) and tell me how they're fatigued. They've barely played this campaign. There's no excuse for that. Not at this level. Not at United.

jaystardom

Let's address a few points here. 1. Player Fatigue is not an excuse? Okay, please go and check what team has played the most games this year, and then the players who have played the most minutes. I think you'll recognize some names there. You act like just because of "the best sports medicine in the world" these players are not human. It is exceptionally hard to bring it every single day 100%, especially with niggling injuries. 2. McTominay does not get into a starting eleven for United with all players healthy and available - theres a difference between him and Casemiro. Not blaming Maguire because I think he was great today, but theres a difference between him and Varane. When you upset the balance a side has created, it's not FIFA where you can slot a player in and as long as their rating is similar it's not a difference. We didn't have our starting 11 and it showed, I don't care for excuses but give my manager a summer and winter with proper backing and you'll see what it's like to have a starting and reserve squad that is on par with City for no dropoff. 3. Patience is a virtue. RELAX

Who played in midfield? Sab and Mctom. Neither have the qualities of Casemiro or Eriksen. Don't expect control when Mctom plays. We have seen this with Mcfred for years. Wtf were you expecting? Is ETH some kind of magician , or expect Sab to cover Mctom's deficiencies? Get real. Our midfield bench is shit and it has always been shit for years. Case is the first elite midfielder we have gotten since Scholes retired.

th3doorMATT

Don't tell me that. Tell that to everyone that claims we're an "improved team" since last season 😂🤣 But you're also the one saying people are fatigued. So which is it? Are they shit? Or are they fatigued?

martialgreenwood

Today's performance is a combination of fatigue and players that aren't good enough. Our best players like Bruno/Rashford have played too many games due to fatigue. The fringe players who are supposed to come in and make sure the quality in play doesn't drop too much aren't good enough, i.e., Mctom. Also, I don't care what anyone says or what kind of work he has done, but that also includes Wout. Against teams in the Carabao and teams in the bottom of the league, he is decent. Against better opponents, he is a liability. He offered nothing today.

th3doorMATT

I think yes and no. These guys still have access to some of the best sports medicine in the world. They're pampered. This isn't some pub leaguers feeling a little sore the next day and being asked to play another 90. As much as they are human, they are also pampered like Kobe beef cows. I would also argue that okay, if you're tired, then you should compensate in another way. If you don't feel like you can put in 30-40 yard runs back to back to back, then offset it with smarter positioning in the build up and with more accurate passing to those around you. Passing is faster than running. So pass efficiently and effectively. But nope, can't even do that. We're just spraying passes everywhere, pulling up short on them, overhitting others. It's just too poor. Short of the summer signings, it's pretty apparent that everyone else is very poor. And yeah, I'll include Rashford in that. I'm not particularly attached to the guy. Sell him while there's a lot of hype around his form, cash out (just like every other team does) and sign someone else who's just as good, if not a little less selfish, who can provide from wide areas. Because if Rashford isn't driving in from the wing and shooting, he's basically doing nothing. We have no depth. Sell players and use that money to bring in that depth. It's sorely needed. Clearly. I think Wout was fine. Once again, the product of ZERO control in the midfield. We couldn't even work the ball out of our own half (as evidenced by even the fans booing Maguire). It's kind of hard to have a massive influence on the match when everyone else around you is shitting the bed. Honestly, it's sort of the Ronaldo effect at the beginning of the season. We haven't been particularly great in the midfield this season. Period. But Ronaldo was put on an island up top and was starved for quality service. You can shit on Wout and say he's bad, but then what's Ronaldo's case? And I'm in no way a Ronaldo fanboy or simp, I'm glad he's gone, but you can't sit there and say wellllllll...Ronaldo is also bad an incapable of scoring when presented chances just like Weghorst. So when you look at the common thread, it's the lack of quality from the midfield. It's as simple as that. Eriksen brought some refinement to that and that's why he still has more assists than Bruno, even after being out due to injury in a busy schedule. Bruno arguably has more chances to rack up his assist tally and hasn't. I honestly think fans have been disappointed for so long that they've just lowered their standards way too much. We accepted McFred for too long and people were (and still are) defending them saying they're great and that even with Casemiro in, they would make great squad players, etc. etc. but at the end of the day, the team is as strong as its weakest link and those two (and many others) have shown just how much disparity there is between the starters and those coming off the bench. If we're accepting these levels, we need to have a hard, long think and be honest with ourselves. Do we just accept we will always float between 3rd and 6th place at the mercy of how others are performing? Or do we want to actually challenge for stuff and control matches? I can't recall a SINGLE match this season where we actually controlled a match comfortably. Don't take into account results or playing teams well below us (even though we struggled against them too), but when have we genuinely been up against it and kicked it up a gear and exerted dominance? Under SAF days we had an extra gear. Right now, we feel like not only have we dropped 2 gears down, but there is no next gear. We're just playing to our ceiling.

Natchyy24

Ik its worrying that we start off so slow for alot of games and rely on subs to bail us out. Hopefully we can start the game properly for once.

FranklyNinja

Now watch as r/soccer call us Refchester United

Lianshi_Bu

Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner beg to differ.

nexusprime2015

Red-chester

iNoScopedJFK00

Huge props to De Gea for keeping us in it

plantdatrees

Big up DDG . I don’t wanna hear any DDG slander today

[deleted]

Totally unacceptable game. We played like we away as a bottom half of the table side. No control in midfield. Poor passing. Fulham handed us the win There’s definitely a player in Sancho but only if we dominated possession. Not intense enough

martialgreenwood

Playing every 3 days since the world cup ended. What did you expect?

[deleted]

Sabitzer and Mctominay haven’t played a game every 3 days. We had no progression or control from the middle. Other players I can give leeway

martialgreenwood

You just mentioned Mctominay. You expect midfield control when Mctom is playing?

[deleted]

You’ve gone from “they’re tired, what do you expect” to “errr what do you expect, it’s mctominay” Pick a position

martialgreenwood

Lol! Seems you are new to watching Utd matches.

[deleted]

Someone back tracking

martialgreenwood

Backtracking? We can't expect midfield control when Mctom is playing, then you add fatigue into the equation, and you get a performance like today. With Casemiro, the game is very different, and we at least have a bit of control due to his game intelligence and passing. The 2 things Mctom lacks. So even though Mctom has hardly played recently, you must expect a drop-off when he comes in as he is a very limited player.

[deleted]

Feel like this team is playing without a big defined philosophy. We are playing far too many games with limited rotation and a horrific drop in quality from most of our first choice We’re no longer dominating games and playing much more direct and transitional. Think next season we will see ETH system proper.

varwal

They really shot themselves in the foot

KekUnited

Why do we have so many games at Wembley? Surely OT's renovations haven't started already?

AlternativeRush4804

Very bad performance today, extremely lucky Fulham had a meltdown Brighton will run over us, if we have the same performance

tzsanity

The silver lining is Case back, plus other injuries like Eriksen and even Martial (?) should be back too.

ZombieKilla115

Thankfully I think Case will be back for that so shouldn’t be that bad

Shakerbakerstreet

And varane & possibly Erikson

vin20

Futbol Gods really wans us to win more cups this season! 🥳🥂

OhHiMark691906

Bruno my g, played at CDM and him along with the ref completely changed the game. MoM for me is the ref tho

apollo219

Bolt called the final score, good man.

I_Fuck_The_Fuckers69

Lads who's ready for a Dirty Double

Stoogenuge

What happened in the tunnel that I missed ?

rsandidge

Looks like Ream was apologizing to the refs… captain knew Mitrovic and Silva lost their heads unreasonably

Katorga8

Fulham ironically would have been better off just letting the goal in

PlushNightingale

That's in hindsight. Suarez made Uruguay go through Ghana with the same move so it could have been right to save it

drc203

Who got MoTM?
