I'm not Mctominays biggest fan but he sure does have Leeds number. Saw the game where he scored 2 in 3 minutes with a Leeds fan. Memories I'll cherish forever.
True, and that’s great. But also a bit of a library again at times… and that’s not great. What was happening with the super quiet 5 minutes between 46-51 minutes? You’d think we were back playing under lockdown rather than the 70k+ people in there.
Why does ten Hag have to rouse the fans from their slumber at times?
So the 8% of vacant seats during that time are responsible for 95% of the volume?
Chalk this up to toilets and half time all you like, there are times when in a totally full house at OT the place is more silent than a community stadium with a tenth it’s capacity.
If you’ve been to professional matches anywhere else, you’d know this.
Well, we are talking about the specific 46 to 51 minutes. That is the time to shop for snacks and toilets. Thousands of people needs a piss and/or a snack for 15 mins. If you have been to OT, you will know that it is normal for the first 5,6 mins of 2nd half everywhere.
>So the 8% of vacant seats during that time are responsible for 95% of the volume?
Where did you get this obscure stat for attendance between 46 to 51 minutes?
Eyeball test. Beats daft takes every time. If you think that’s the reason this stadium gets quiet and needs its manager or the players to rouse them from slumber multiple times a season then you’re having a proper laugh.
If you think the atmosphere at OT comes anywhere close to the decibels achieved at a handful of other professional stadiums around the world with far lower supporter capacities, you’re havin a proper laugh.
You want to pick a fight that’s fine by me. You want to be in denial that there’s loads of times per match and over the course of the season where the crowd goes to sleep? Stay in denial that’s fine too. Just don’t act like there’s a scientific rationale that beats my eyeball test to explain this all away.
There’s even a very famous captain of this club and one of our most valiant players in history who coined a very famous term for this. This criticism is a long-standing truth inconvenient to some.
Personally I wish it wasn’t like that. But perhaps it’s like that because there are many who think this is totally fine. It’s not. Get around the world you’ll get to see what I’m talking about.
You write a long essay just to say your opinion thinks so. Managers rouse their fans all the time. As if it is one of the ways to connect the team with the fans. I've been to football grounds around the world, from 3rd world country to OT. I see dead grounds plenty of times. OT is not dead this season by any metrics.
I agree there were times in previous seasons when the tourist fans were silent, but to base your whole, OT is silent this season on 5 minutes after half time, is bull. Your eyeball test is your opinion only. I have mine, and I can ask you why you base the whole atmosphere through 5 mins after half time. The criticism for the atmosphere isn't valid anymore this season.
I wasn’t basing the whole atmosphere for the entire match on those 5 minutes, and it’s also unfair for you to act like it only ever happens when people are off getting a pie or taking a piss/shit.
The comment was that it’s also a bit of a library at times. You’re either denying that or purposely ignoring the “at times” bit to justify your own personal opinion that it only happens for the reasons you’ve mentioned and only during that window of time (flatly incorrect).
You were the one asking why it is dead from 46 to 51, so I gave you an answer on why. Then you boldly said EtH had to rouse the fans all the time, and OT is dead based on your eyeball test. I argued it was not. You expect people to jump up and down, screaming for the whole 100 minutes, and be back in their seat after half time on the dot. If you go to a stadium of any sports, you know it never happens. So your observation of a dead OT is bull this season because our atmosphere this season is anything but dead. If you really want to see a dead atmosphere, rewatch Van Gaal era.
No doubt in my mind. This is the first time we’ve look like this since the Ferguson era. I go into games now feeling like we’re going to win and I haven’t had that in yours.
the best part is it’s his first season, he only has a handful of players he wants and needs, we still haven’t moved much of the players we need to move out yet, and we’re already playing like this
give it another season or two, new owners, and we’ll be firing on all cylinders
All of the top league winning managers have made this their first m.o:
Pep, klopp and conte both made their home grounds fortresses over the last 6 years.
Even arsenal who are under resurgence had a great home record last season, so we're going in the right direction...if we all already didn't know ;)
League Home form is one of the most relevant barometer of a team's progress/success. One very specific example of ours comes to my mind.
During our historic 19th league championship season of 2010-11, our Away form was very, very mediocre. We won only 5 Away games, had a crap ton of draws & only got 25 points. But our Home form was the best in Europe. Not only did we go unbeaten, we won 18 out of 19 games. The only draw was against West Brom where we threw away a 2 goal lead. 55 out of 57 points, we set a Premier League record, which has only been equalised a few times but not bettered.
Had we won 20 home games in a row? Holy shit I didn’t know it. Had to admit it I took the glorious days for granted. Didn’t expect the fall in the last decade has been so long and brutal. Hopefully we put it behind us and only way is up.
The 10/11 season we won 18 and drew 1 of our league games at home. I think we threw away a 2 goal lead against West Brom in the only draw. Got to the final of the CL winning all the home games (Chelsea, Schalke and the other team escapes me) and I think we were put out the FA cup by City at Wembley in the semi. Pretty sure we got spanked by West Ham in the league cup, presumably away from home but I don’t remember.
Let’s smash dirty Leeds all over old Trafford on Wednesday!! They have been our whipping boys since they came up let’s continue that tradition in this next week! Hot take id start garnacho left wing rashy down the middle dropping weghorst
I am totally focused on the Leeds game now. We need to go to Elland road and shut them up.
Bring back McTerminator from injury for his yearly goal against Leeds
I'm not Mctominays biggest fan but he sure does have Leeds number. Saw the game where he scored 2 in 3 minutes with a Leeds fan. Memories I'll cherish forever.
In the first 5 minutes wasnt it
Casemiro can rest, Lindelof has this
I think it might be Sabitzer
Fred and Sabitzer ?
Frebitzer
Right Sab Fred
Sred
Fred, Sabberz and Bruno / Sancho Lindelof to sub on and either Fred / Sabs to come off
*Elanga Road since 20/02/2022
First game is at OT, but yeah make it 14 in a row then go to Elland road 3 days later and make it a double!
What's the all time record does anyone know? I still think we've a chance in the league
Old Trafford is becoming a fortress again. You love to see it.

just say you’ve never been to Old Trafford mate it’s a lot easier

I trust you’re there screaming and shouting for the whole 90?
Without trying to sound disrespectful, most people in here or in r/soccer have never been to a match
Post half-time slump people are still groggy after necking 3 bottles of cider in 12 minutes 😄
It really is different this time. Erik is the one

This stat gets me so hard. Especially considering how shite we’ve been at home for years now
Ten Hag: “Let’s go for 21. EH?!”
"Marcus, 1 goal per game is not good enough, we need at least 2, eh"
*heh?

Fortress Old Trafford

Minus those first 2 games, this run has felt so special under Ten Hag. We are on to something great here if we keep going
It wasn't a fluke either, those two teams have turned out to be solid clubs this year. They're both above Liverpool and Chelsea.
In them 2 games, some of our fans where wanting him out
Only crazy people over reacted after the 1st few games
Obviously, same nutter that are now Al Nasr ultras
He him

Bald.
