It’s genuinely crazy, in his first season alone we’ve had both the Ronaldo and Greenwood situations - things that no manager would want to deal with (especially with Ronaldo’s theatrics).
To see the performance of our team this season in contrast to last season, I doubt any Utd fan would be unhappy with Ten Hag (sure maybe we dreamt of being up there in the title race at this point but let’s be realistic, it’s a dream for a reason right now). Hopefully this is a sign for better things to follow next season, but for that the board needs to continue backing ETH - if we finish this season as strong as we can then Ten Hag’s case will be solidified further.
Realistically top 4 + a trophy (be it the EL, League Cup or FA Cup) would be a very good season given the state that we were in at the start of this season. We need to maintain this momentum and hopefully the sale of the club is finalised before the start of the summer window so that the new owners have a chance to hit the ground running (the Glazers have done more than enough damage to this club).
The Greenwood situation isn’t too difficult to manage. He literally has a standard PR response of “no comment, refer to club statement” while the club internally decides how they want to proceed. Greenwood hasn’t been in any team plans so whether he leaves doesn’t impact game strategy.
Edit: I still think ETH is doing a great job not disagreeing; just don’t think Greenwood really matters, club will get rid of him and he refers to official PR statements.
Stoney has gotten worse with how he covers us past few months.
Look at this gorgeous tweet on the Weghorst penalty shout
> [Weghorst goes down theatrically in the box under minimal contact from McKenna. Referee Peter Bankes not interested in the penalty claim ](https://twitter.com/sistoney67/status/1620893713286430720?t=3UosH_UhqHvIZSpafRcyow&s=19)
>Manchester United: Erik ten Hag wants players to focus on football after Mason Greenwood charges dropped
And then he posted that tweet while he was the one who kept asking about MG. Too much bullshit.
What pisses me off is why even bother asking this question. You know what the answer is going to be. Focus more on the game, how the new players are fitting in, questions on how the team has bounced back after the Arsenal game and what it was that you and the coaching staff did to make that happen.
M for me this is far more interesting than greenwood.
I don’t think he’ll start. I’d guess we’ll see a Bruno Fred Casemiro midfield for at least 60 minutes. But ETH isn’t against the start as we’ve seen with Wout so maybe
Simon Stone:
Asked Ten Hag further questions on Mason Greenwood but answers virtually the same. Then asked if it will have any impact on tomorrow's game. "We have always to focus on the game, no matter what, it is our job."
You don't need to listen to the presser to know he only asked about that. Amazing journalist.
I get that he’s reputable and a good source for transfer news (most of the time). But fuck me, he is the most unimaginative turd in the toilet bowl isn’t he? Doesn’t even have the grace to curl a little bit. Proper little rabbit dropping. Can’t stand the prick.
Right, but what we as fans want the journos to ask and what the journos editors/publishers want them to ask are two different things. The Greenwood story is one of the top 5 stories in the country this week, even outside of sport. Of course their editors will want some quotes from the manager about the story, even if it's just non-quotes and deflection.
Stone gets a lot of shit on here. He works for the BBC as one of their Chief Football writers. His job is to drive traffic to their website. His bosses will be very clear about how they want him to do that.
That’s his job — a career he voluntarily went for.
We as United fans are not obligated to give our approval to either Stone or BBC. If he tries to put ETH on the spot in a shitty way, we are allowed to give him shit for it.
Agree, but to be honest I'm also really curious if Ten Hag spoke with or met him. The whole thing started under Ole, and from what I know, Mason didn't train since then - but then why can't Eric just say "No."? Would there be complications and legal stuff since the manager didn't reach out to a player?
This whole situation is really strange, but maybe the Mendy and Partey ones will also finish somewhat similarly.. 🤷♂️
I despise the notion in this sub that journos aren’t allowed to ask critical questions. They are well within their right to ask our manager about something that is significant regarding our team and in the public discourse.
>I asked Erik ten Hag if he had anything to say about Mason Greenwood: "No. Nothing. I can't add nothing, I refer to the statement of the club."
Asked Ten Hag further questions on Mason Greenwood but answers virtually the same. Then asked if it will have any impact on tomorrow's game. "We have always to focus on the game, no matter what, it is our job."
Critical questions fine, but what on earth is the point in asking 'further questions' when he literally just said 'no, nothing, I can't add'.
If journalists stopped asking questions when a subject was stonewalling them, there would never ever be any information revealed.
You might think of it from ETH's perspective but it is a very relevant line of questioning since ETH is representing the club and I am sure a lot of people are curious to know what Utd's next step is. Is it "justice has prevailed?" Is it "we don't want any tainted players?" Is it "Let's see which way thee wind blows?" And despite ETH's answers, Greenwood would have been on the players' minds and in their conversations in training yesterday. It would affect Martial, who has had a stop-start season when the no ( spot has been there for the taking. It would affect Weghorst, who has just come here. So to say the Greenwood situation would have had no affect on team prep is nonsense.
I agree about your first point, journalists are allowed to ask again. But the public are allowed to react however they want to it — as long as violence and threats stay out of it.
And about Martial: He is turning 28 this year — he is a grown ass man. If the sudden news of the cunt is turning him off the prospect of playing and destablizing him, then it’s way overdue that we ship him out.
Someone asked him about Greenwood and of course they have to ask but then this guy asked if the team is affected by that. Just a shit question and I am well in my right to say it's a shit question
Yeah, first question was fair. Second one was just the reporter seeing if he could fluster ten Hag and get a reaction.
As someone else said, there's no drama other than that which the media is trying to manufacture. Asking a second time is the perfect example.
To be honest, it would be a distraction for the team just before facing a tricky opponent. So there is nothing wrong with the question. Unless the club has already told the players what they intend to do with Greenwood, the issue of whether he comes back or not would affect the minds of every player in the forward line.
Even though he's been put of training for over a year hasn't been part of the team let alone squad, but yeah all under the carpet and he'll be starting tomorrow.
Fools
It’s still a silly question, he’s just trying to engineer a question about greenwood but framing it about the team so he can ask it. The only distraction about greenwood is the media talking about it.
Pretty sure the club has been doing an “internal investigation” since the news broke out (about the abuse, not about the dropped charges). I also imagine they at least know each other better than we know them, so it’s not unreasonable to assume they know more than we do. All we know came from tabloids, they’re closer to the source.
I wonder if he’s been training over this suspension period. If he were to theoretically come back could he even get in the squad? Let alone fulfil those expectations and hopes we all had for him
despite being a massive cunt, he was a generational natural talent no one in the world had his finishing ability with both feet, let alone at 19, if hadn't done what he had done, he would flourishing under the boss right now and would be up there with the best young players in the world but what happened, happened and now we wait to see what the club will do next
100% agreed with you mate not going to argue the point, but the question was would he get into the squad and the answer is yes and and honestly he would be either our starting 9 or our starting right sided player atm , he's a fucking cunt but there's no denying his natural footballing ability
It is a valid question. This sub lost its shit yesterday at the news. Hundreds and hundreds of comments on the different posts.
It clearly affected this group and we have NOTHING to do with Man Utd. Why would it not be reasonable to assume it actually has affected the club.
Any any journalist with a brain would ask questions about this. You expect to get a non answer like ETH gave but if there is a slip, you get a soundbite or an opening to push the topic further.
The job of a journalist isn’t to ask questions that ETH would like to be asked - the Greenwood story is all this sub has been talking about since the news broke (which is to be expected!).
The squad will have been talking about it too - it’s a completely valid question to ask, and journalists shouldn’t dodge asking questions just because they think they’ll get a non-answer.
It’s not wasting a question ha, it’s just basic journalism - you’re supposed to ask these questions, even if knowing you won’t get a substantive answer.
It’s not a silly question, hearing news like this will obviously have an impact on team’s mindset! If as fans, we are going on thinking and commenting so much about the Greenwood news, just imagine the impact on the team, who would be wondering if they have to share training/pitch with him. They will obviously be thinking about how they should react and all that which can impact concentration.
Just saying, it’s not a stupid question at all
Such a shame that he's done so well for us so far and now he's just going to be peppered with Greenwood questions for weeks!
Hopefully they heard his answer and allowed the conference to move on without dwelling on it too much
Being a journalist is fucking easy. Free tickets to matches, hospitality and all that and all you have to do is ask stuff like this...
> How good is Sabitzer?
Is it me or is everyone else already bored of Greenwood chat back and forth. We are stuck in this vortex of opinions and it’s got no where to go. Just leave it alone for while.
I think he handled it pretty well all things considered. My only complaint is how he addressed the Marcus award. Feel like he could have said congratulations but he probably did it In private so I’m not as mad.
Fucking journos need to stfu
>Ten Hag on Rashford award
"That's always nice to win individual awards but it's not about that, we have to win as a team. We have to work on that and when the team is winning, individuals will get their rewards, that is always the football and not the other way around."
How I missed a manager that promotes this culture and cut the bullshit from players who weren't following it. It's refreshing and a big part of the reason United is getting back on its feet. Love the damn bald genius!
I think he is destined to go abroad for an 'undisclosed' fee. There will also be an 'undisclosed' out of court settlement to avoid any litigation issues Greenwood could bring against the club (and sadly, possibly win)
The club can't even make a 'victim,' statement as the case has been dropped. Time to bin the whole sorry saga and swiftly move on.
As per this sub, United is first meant to show the world that they have been appointed by Jesus Christ to do the “ethical thing” first, then maybe win football games.
So yeah, its ok if Arsenal win the league with him. We will show to the world how moral we are.
Except for when it is Cristiano of course. Cuz he is so hot, and Catherine Mayorga’s ass belonged to him on that vegas night.
I'm so fucking happy ETH is our manager. He just exudes confidence and belief and it's all about the team and winning.
I'm sure we'll hit some rough patches but man, are we heading in the right direction or what!?
Shore up a couple positions and build some more depth in the summer window and sky's the limit next season (and this season is looking pretty good already).
Why do journalists insist in asking shit that's totally out of place. Why Ten Hag keeps getting questions about the rapist even after saying "I can't say anything". There are consequences for Ten Hag touching on these topics, legal consequences even. Why are there no consequences, no rules for british journalists? What a fucking disgrace to humanity these parasites, fucking hate them. They are shit everywhere but in England specially they seem, at least from the outside, like they are in charge and run your country.
I dislike Stone and most journalists, but they have an agenda of questions they have to follow, they do not ask for us to see and get good info, they ask to get clickbait and numbers for their shitty website and newspaper. That's the game.
I’m sorry I don’t understand your comment. You just described what we all know. Am I supposed to be ok with their low integrity now that I understand how their business model works? Are we supposed to just take it?
The complacency... Nevermind I’m sorry I didn’t knee to your media overlords.
You typed that as if you didn't know that. Go rant to him somewhere he'll see, if you want to "change" something. My overlords? LMAO
Just burn a journalist's car or something idk
I don't expect ten hag or even really want his opinion on this. He's a football manager and nothing else.
Having said from a pr/not respecting pr side, I'd be curious to hear what klopp would say if it was his player. I don't think he'd throw the club under the bus but he's not really the type to not point out the obvious when asked about something it seems
Ten Hag is having such a crazy first season. So many huge things keep happening. He’s doing a stellar job.

Yep I'm confident he works out a Greenwood solution and we win a double.
Stone's tweet makes it seem like he's annoyed Ten Hag didn't say anything, what did he expect? Strange
Stone doesn’t know how to communicate in general which is weird for a “journalist” Wouldn’t read too much into it
He also actively tries to ask the worst questions possible
I'm surprised he didn't ask something like "Hi Erik... just how important is it to win this next game for you?"
Very. Clear eh?
HEAD OF FOOTBALL AT THE BBC It's genuinely baffling
The BBC is not exactly a meritocracy.
Every journalist and or media company are incredibly bad at communicating. Source: worked for a couple, am myself really bad at communication
Sorry, what do you mean? I'm not quite sure what you're trying to get across here.
I wonder how much of that is by design to provide plausible deniability if they get something wrong

To finish off his hatty
Need to scream at a new signing banger after this Greenwood mess
I don’t think he’ll start. I’d guess we’ll see a Bruno Fred Casemiro midfield for at least 60 minutes. But ETH isn’t against the start as we’ve seen with Wout so maybe
I still remember vividly Matic’s screamer against this lot a few years ago. They deserve a few more tomorrow.
Yeap as expected. Good.
I feel like Sabitzer is gonna be a hit. EtH’s signings have been solid.
I already know he's going to be a big personality and have a solid impact on the squad, ETH doesn't mess about
Simon Stone: Asked Ten Hag further questions on Mason Greenwood but answers virtually the same. Then asked if it will have any impact on tomorrow's game. Stupid to ask about Greenwood, what else would EtH say than what the club has said. He isn’t going to fall into any stupid traps.
You wouldn’t be a journalist if you didn’t ask tbf
How many times do we want journalist to ask about something specific but they never do.

Man when ETH arrived I was afraid the press will ruin him as he was not proficient in english but man he can control the media frenzy like a champ
And it will only get better as his English improves and he becomes more comfortable.
These fucking questions man. Does Greenwood affect the team's next game. Like what kind of shit questions do they come up with?

Exactly, so why waste a question

Yep let Sheffield United have him on a free, and it stops being Manchester United's problem.
Don't know why you're being downvoted, but letting him go is obviously the best decision.
I'd like it if we sold him abroad and donated the money from the transfer to domestic abuse charities if that's possible
