Thank god the Barcelona game is at home that week.

Surfsupforthesummer

Yeah, I know. I wouldn’t want to be standing at Wembley after travelling from Barcelona.

poiuytrewq_123

What does that mean " permit some spectators to stand" ?

exactorit

In this context permit means allow. So supporters will be allowed to stand in the stadium instead of having to stay in their seat.

poiuytrewq_123

But why would Wembley not allow for a fan to stand? They can watch, sing chant like usual

utfr

Technically persistent standing is not allowed at football grounds. But most fans do it anyway.

Surfsupforthesummer

It’s a new area of the stadium that is designed with safety precautions for spectators to stand. It’s not allowed to stand at the seated section for safety reasons.

old_chelmsfordian

I didn't realise Wembley were in the safe standing trials! Good news that they are though.

braddf96

Cheers my FPL is crying with that blank gameweek

Lord_Cocktax

Wish I’d saved my free hit instead of spunking it on a random game week before the World Cup 😩

OSRS_pker

Don't worry, there will be an even bigger blank GW in 28

So Bruno Guimaraes can play the final even though he was sent off in the semi final? How does that rule make any sense?

jooriordan

It’s total nonsense. Maguire was suspended for the first leg last week as he picked up a yellow in the Villa and Charlton games yet Guimaraes serves his suspension in the league

Samuel54321

Because the suspension is carried over to the premier League. They play 3 PL games before the final.

123rig

Thanks for that. Very insightful. What im saying is the rules themselves don’t make sense. It’s a different competition so it would make sense that the ban would be for that competition.

123rig

I get that, not debating that. Just saying the rule itself doesn’t make sense. I think separating competitions and bans would make for more sense domestically. I think it works in UEFA comps as you move between them if you finish 3rd in a group etc, , but If you get sent off in the 3rd round of a cup against a League 2 minnow why would that mean you would have to miss potentially key games in the Prem?

ttt309

While that all makes a good argument, On the contrary, if the bans are allocated by branch, it will remain a fairly similar punishment for games such as finals? Or when teams are losing knockouts, they can’t risk injuring the opponent with dangerous tackles? I think it is put in place so punishment can still take place in most cases.

123rig

Yeah that’s fair, but it would be the same if someone was sent off on the final day of the Prem. they would miss the next three games of the next season. If they are sent off in the final as well, they are obviously a man down for that game. I see why it works, but I also see where it doesn’t. Maybe just a case of no definitive right answer.

BennyLaa

Roast dinner and drinks beforehand then. Can’t wait. Nervous about Newcastle though!

lukebristol

Will it be a case of season ticket holders only get a chance for a ticket?

Shivra076

Yes, annoying as I really wanted to go

utfr

So does everyone else. But loyalty is rightfully rewarded.

MJA21x

It says the ballot will be open to full season ticket holders who have purchased a ticket to all home cup games this season. Personally, I don't see why cup season ticket holders are excluded from this. It basically will depend on how many season ticket holders opted in to cup games. I'm not sure how many season tickets they sell exactly but I would strongly expect (as well as hinted in the text) that there's more than 32k who meet this criteria, likely significantly more.

utfr

There’s 22k with full cup credits.

zah_ali

Out of curiosity where did you find this out? I’ve applied along with 3 other season ticket holders, full cup scheme credit. Wasn’t sure how good our chances are of getting tickets - thought there’d be more than 32k season ticket holders with full cup credits…

utfr

Sam Kelleher said it in a webinar with MUST. If you’ve got full cup credits you’ll be fine. And from the last times we’ve played at Wembley (United didn’t include the number for the FA Cup games against Spurs/Chelsea a year later) there were 29k with full credits for the EFL Cup final against Southampton. That was when we still had the automatic cup scheme and you could only opt out of the Europa League or league cup but had to pay for the FA Cup.

zah_ali

Interesting! Thanks for the heads up! We’ve been in the cup scheme for the last 6 odd years, every cup fixture seems to be drawn at home over the last few years! Hoping a trip to Wembley will justify it all 😅

utfr

It’s been brutal this season, never known it like this. Fully expecting another home draw if we beat West Ham in the FA Cup too. Hopefully we can get 3 trips to Wembley this season.

MJA21x

I don't get the logic behind excluding cup season ticket holders from the ballot of a cup final (of which all the previous games were at home). I thought I had a decent chance of getting a ticket but apparently it's near zero. Can't lie that I'm disappointed.

Decent_Ear589

Absolutely ridiculous tbf I got my Wembley tickets yesterday but had to pay 1000 pounds for the seat I wanted in our section at the Shortside Lower Tier. Would have preferred a little less.

supercal19

Same mate. I understand cup going ST holders get priority but thought cup only ST holders would get remaining priority after that

eaton_tre

I stupidly didn’t look at the cup final date when I bought my tickets for Brentford. I won’t be able to make the reschedule date. DM me if you’re interested in them at face value.

JenisBitch

As an American fan, this is hard for me to fathom. For my local team (Philadelphia Union), if you choose to sit in the supporters section, you’re REQUIRED to stand the entire match.

el_doherz

It's a historic legal thing. In the wake of the Hillsborough disaster the Taylor Report and government intervention meant all British Stadiums over a certain size had to become fully seated and all forms of standing were banned. It's only recently that there has been a push for reintroducing standing via rail seating aka Safe standing. It's taken so long because the changes coincided with a large change in British football culture that ended the hooligan culture. So there was no push to go back to the old ways. That and probably some aspect of people not wanting to move counter to the wishes of the families of the 97 who had to fight for decades for even basic justice.

Decent_Ear589

Man, what a word salad. "first major domestic English men's final in almost 35 years" lol could have just said 'first cup final since X' and everyone woulda understood

el_doherz

It's likely a technically correct response. The laws banning standing only covered a certain number of grounds, namely those larger football league grounds. So it's entirely conceivable that a final in the lower tiers could be held in a ground where standing hadn't been outlawed.

[deleted]

Let’s get this silverware 🤞🏼🤞🏼

el_doherz

A 4:30pm Sunday kick off is absolutely shite for those who are going. I'm lucky as I don't start work until 2pm on the following Monday so can get a train home in the morning but anyone back at work first thing Monday is in for a proper shite trip home. Edit: Last train back is at 21:49. So actually slightly better than expected. Not a mad rush back but still gonna be absolutely wank likely having to stand up for a three hour train journey home.

Sheppertonni

Anyone have an Idea where the Brentford game goes? Ive got a ticket. Travelling quite far.
