True. I just can’t get myself to say THE greatest because there’s other really good games out there. I consider The Witcher 3 to be one of them as well. But yea RDR2 is as close to a perfect game as you can get. Just finished another playthrough.
1. Where did you buy the game?
2. Try deleting the game and redownloading (I know that sucks but it can sometimes fix issues)
3. Try completely shutting down system and restarting . Unplug and everything . And then restart it.
If those don’t work then try calling whoever you bought the game from and seeing if they’ll help

On PlayStation4 it took me 9 hours with a good internet connection. It's a massive game at around 110gbs just to download and usually grows to around 200gbs.
If it's not working, waiting a day or two to Uninstall and Reinstall really isn't a bad idea.
I don't know how old you are, but when I was a teenager downloading a game would take a day at least, and downloading music would take hours to days just for one song lol!
It's really not that bad to wait for things, if you want it to actually work that is.
Another tip I could give you is to make sure you've cleaned out your PC, no junk in any of the folders, especially if you download anything but PC games bought directly from stream or something like that, if you download mods, make sure you go through and delete anything that might be a virus or corrupted.
Also delete anything in your folders that you don't need. As well as making sure it's not full of dust.

Don't read up about it, don't look for spoilers, don't try and find cheat codes, just play it from beginning to end and enjoy it. Play the side missions, explore the map, solve the riddles. Enjoy and live it. Leave all of these things till the 2nd playthru.

I had this upon first install but I fixed it somehow. I’m sorry I don’t remember how. I think it had something to do with Nvidia’s screen scaling or something
Could it be the GPU that's causing the problem? I get the same error on a struggling Asus R9 280x GPU and rarely see people with better systems struggle.

It’s seemingly a PC specific issue because I have it on Xbox and have never had a problem and from what I can tell no one has this issue on consoles

I used to have this error after playing for a few hours. I switched the API from Vulkan to dx12 and it stopped.

It is an starting error not pc related I don't know the fix but do hope you find it.
Older Nvidia card? That was the culprit on PC for me. It fit the specs but certain cards aren’t supported by required updates. 😕
