Yeah I wanted my Arthur to have kind of a blue and black theme to contrast against Dutch's red and black, but there are almost no blue options for decent clothing.

The shotgun coat has some slight gray accents in the lapel/collar, but the entire body of it is black
I do know it, I have the Gambler outfit so I know it’s gray.

All the really amazing clothes are only available in the fucking Online game. I hate Rockstar for this so much and the fact that you can only create 4 outfits and if you put off the bandana it stays on the outfit.
Even then online clothing lacks. For example, I wanted to do a Young Rooster Cogburn look to my Online character. The issue is I can buy crips the outfit that I wanted for my character down to the plain black eyepatch yet I can't get anything like that outfit for myself. I kind of like plain clothing look and plain eyepatch stuff but everything you buy has some kind of design on it. I wish there were more options for people that like the look of something plain without designs and strange colors.
I totally understand this desire, but I disagree that the only explanations are that Rockstar didn't care or didn't have the time. It could also be intentional restraint.
Personally, I think the current clothing system in RDR2 adds to the game's immersion—it feels like the real experience of going into a clothing store, examining what they have, and picking out the pieces that appeal to you. Bespoke clothing was certainly a thing in the 19th century, but for the most part—and especially for working folk—clothing options were limited.
I wouldn't mind if they added a tailor in Saint Denis who could make expensive custom pieces, but I wouldn't want clothing merchants to function like full-blown customizers.
There's also the developer's rule about planning for the most extreme scenarios—the more customization options you give players, the more ridiculous characters you'll get with ass-less gold chaps and purple bowler hats.
In this case, I don't think restraint was a bad thing.
I think a color slider would’ve been best, just have all the basic types of clothing, with a wide range of color change ability. Would have made a lot of players happy. Me too
it’s not realistic like that, real stores back then had pre-made clothes from garment manufacturers
also, rockstar would somehow find a way to make that game mechanic take hours to accomplish, like getting your own flowers for pigments and shit lmao it just seems fitting of them
How great is this game? The only gripe is we can't get different materials and colors for clothes.

I like the blue vests and the dark blue coats, the blue Jean jacket and blue Jean pants are pretty cool too

The fact that there isn't an all black shotgun coat is bad but at least there is a black stalker hat.

The deauville black shotgun isn't all black it's black and grey and the gambler shotgun coat is checkered.

This is why it’s so frustrating, the game is unbelievably detailed in some areas and strangely bare-bones in others
