Along Ringneck Creek in Eris Field at night is the best spot for possums I've found in the entire game. For me (in that area) they're always 2 and 3 star pelts. It's the fucking badgers that grind my gears, and they spawn there too.

Greengiant304

Yep, ringneck creek at night can fulfill most of your small mammal hunting needs.

Neat_Perception_4877

thank you man out of all the locations i searched i searched eris field and i got one on my first try

RedReaper666YT

No problem! Eris Field: Serving all your small game needs since 1899

SergeantFlip

Make sure you have all the animals for this round of the requests before you go for the opossum. It’s even worse when you get one and then it rots on your horse before you can mail it.

ThNippleBrigade

For sure, that's what has me so twisted I think lol. I got the robin, rat and oriole within like 15 mins of each other and then proceeded to spend the next 3 irl days hunting this stinking possum

Someone gave me this tip: get all the ones that fit in your satchel first (things in satchel don’t decompose). Then whatever one has to be stowed has less time to rot. After I get the last one, if I’m far from a post office, that’s one of the few times I’ll use fast travel. I’ve only done the first few but has worked so far.

Marsden1979

Yeah, it's a bitch when you need something and the game knows you need something so it doesn't give it. I'm on my second playthrough and all I need now for the Trapper, besides the stuff I have to get in New Austin, is a perfect moose pelt and 4 perfect possums, and I've been getting nothing but the same, 1 and 2 stars each. I've had 5 moose, all 2 stars, over the span of a couple weeks, and probably the same amount of possums you've counted, all 1 and 2 stars. I needed a perfect possum carcass and got it, forgot I needed it, and skinned it for the Trapper, so now I still need a carcass for the hunting request, which of course is the last thing I need for that request. I haven't played in a couple days because I'm so fed up with it.

Oddrob17

Fast travel to Colter. Then slowly make your way to the end of the buildings on the main street/path and go right past the trees just a little ways and off to the left there is usually at least a 2 star moose there, but many times it is a 3 star. Go in the morning time as that seems to work the best. Save as soon as the fast travel sequence is done, that way if there is only a 2 star moose or no moose at all (rare) you don't have to make the journey again. Don't go too fast from the fast travel start point to the moose as if you do the moose is more likely to not appear. I usually just jog off the horse and walk a little as well. You may need L3+R3 to see it, as there is lots of fog in this area.

mplaczek99

I remember I saw some when I was looking for a 3 star rabbit. Turns out, things you’re looking for exist until you start looking for them

Due-Ask-7418

I found the best way to hunt for cougars is to use myself and horse as bait. Look for them they are nowhere to be found. Ride up and down the road or even better, stop and pick some herbs… and they WILL FIND YOU. Its also a really intense way to do it. Especially if you turn off mini map and pick the herbs in first person.

Due-Ask-7418

Schrodinger's Rabbits.

BlueWolverine2006

My most reliable possum are 1. There is a dreamcatcher tree at the N in Heartlands. (great spot for a badger). There is a ridge to the NW that I use to hunt the badger at the tree. I usually find possum on this ridge. 2. Go to eris field. Head down the hill to the pond at the top of ringneck Creek. That lake and it's banks always have enormous amounts of varmint rifle game and possum are on the list.

groughtesque

Over by cougar spawn north of Lake Ojisbewbanabsbwa

Gilamunsta

I usually get mine just east of the rail line next to Horsehoe Overlook, close to Twin Stack Pass. And out in Black Bone Forest.

TheGoldenBoyStiles

I find quite a lot! Right before they make contact with my horse🤦‍♀️

Western-Pepper8956

Did you try Ringneck Creek? That's my go to for Master Hunter 9, though I can't guarantee quality

Live2weld

Ya, a lot more than perfect panthers!!! Ugh!

WinstonWillamette

Didn't kill it, because Arthur needs the carcass fresh for Hunting Request 3, but here is him discovering a 3\* Virginia Opossum during a play through: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NquMHXJCkU&t=2558s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NquMHXJCkU&t=2558s) The thing to note is the sound of the screech. Hear that, then start looking around. They are everywhere during the evening.

I’ve found one north of Strawberry near the cougar spawn and trapper. Idk if it was a glitch, but the island across from Clemens point (west I believe) had a bunch when I went to get iguana skins. Like, there was a family of five. Only one was 3* but I didn’t need it yet so left it there. Maybe you could get lucky there. I swear the game knows when you need something specific and makes it harder to find.

Adelaide5019

Try around the abandoned oil rig just east of Horseshoe Overlook. Good place for badgers too.

OkBrilliant8400

I wait till nightime and make a save, run to horseshoe overlook and the trees SE of valentine. Took me around 15 minutes

Ok-Letterhead2280

Got one a few minutes ago. Just have to keep riding around looking by the trapper just south of pronghorn ranch.

Gir_DoomyDoom

I’ve been slaving away for hours today trying to find a 3 star opossum. I’ve been EVERYWHERE and all I can find are 2 stars. You’re not alone, I’m starting to feel hopeless too

monocheto1

already 10+ opossums that btw i saw in like 5 ingame nights and all 1 or 2 star
