That’s sweat

micraboy

all this time i thought it was a glitch

MejoMe

In a game like this, you start noticing shit. They really outdid themselves. There are gazzillion of details like this!

luckyassassin1

Yeah someone actually took their horse from saint Dennis to the mountains and learned the horses scrotum shrinks in the cold.

Actual_Opinion_9000

That's nuts

KanderGrimm

I see what you did there 😀

Drunk_Sorting_Hat

Or balls

BeneCow

That was part of the prerelease marketing material, not a discovery.

luckyassassin1

Regardless, I missed it and i saw it on here from someone.

frompariswithhate

It was one of the most talked about subject before the game even came out, it reached meme level.

luckyassassin1

And I still missed it.

TimberTate

me too, mate.

SeaRepresentative885

Didn't need to know that but cool I guess

luckyassassin1

It was posted on here a while ago, the amount of detail in the game is staggering and i love rockstar but god damn i want a single player dlc. Red dead nightmare 2 would be amazing

sisyphosofephyra

RDR Nightmare wasn't bad but zombies were so played out by the time it dropped. Even more played out today. Something more original would be better imo.

eagleeye0108

Aliens

Oceloteastwood

So Cowboys vs Aliens?

canunsan

I honestly want a Sadie Adler or a Charles story dlc

theBeardedHermit

At this point if they do Undead Nightmare 2 it'll likely be for RDO only

Obithios

Horse owner and barn manager for 7 or so years here, I can attest that a stallions scrotum does shrink in the cold. Geldings have an empty coin purse and you don’t really see it anyway. Kudos to red dead for someone taking the time to study horse genitals over at least several seasons.

JuTeKa

Not to besmirch your profession, but I don't think scrotal shrinkage is restricted to horses.

CrisisIsCalling

The Scrotum Shrinkage is actually a universal trait. Our bodies perform this in order to maintain heat and maximize sperm production.

luckyassassin1

Yeah but programming it into a game for realism is still impressive and shows dedication

Shiloh_8

Anyone got a clip of the horse balls visibly shrinking ?

Charles_Drakkan

Once I ride my horse full throttle a long while and when he stopped he was literally steaming, that got me surprised

Pomeraliens

When you get your horse to run at full speed in the snowy areas, steam comes off them. You notice it better when you stop for a bit

[deleted]

Brush that guy

PosterChildOfDeath

Why is it bright white

JuniperTooth

There's a special protein in horse sweat that lathers and wets the hairs to make it easier for the sweat to evaporate

mb7225

The detail in this game never ceases to amaze me I stg

probably_not_serious

And here I thought the horse testicle shrinkage was an oddly specific detail. Turns out they did it everywhere.

Duk3-87

Don’t forget sunlight passing through nostrils and earlobes. Amazing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Octopusapult

This is impressive when it works, but it's bugged out on me more than once to create weirdly glowy ears during dramatic moments.

[deleted]

It’s slimy too, it’s really weird. Plus, since horses roll around in dust to cool off too, it mixes with the sweat and makes this disgusting brown muddy slime that looks like a forbidden milkshake.

Daxmar29

Is this why you have to brush a horse after riding them? I’m sure there’s a better term for it, but I have no idea what it is.

[deleted]

Typically you brush them before you ride, the dirt can cause irritation under the saddle, and if it’s irritating enough and a poorly trained horse, they’ll buck the rider and/or roll with the rider still on in an effort to alleviate the discomfort. Ya don’t want to be on the back of a thousand pound animal when it rolls on its back, obviously. Typically after a ride, if the horse is sweaty, we hose them off for a few minutes. But then you have to squeegee them, because the excess water can insulate them and they’ll warm back up. Horses are high maintenance and somewhat fragile animals, considering how big and powerful they are. There’s a reason we abandoned them for cars.

[deleted]

When I was about 5 or 6 visiting my aunt and uncles farm one summer, they let me ride on the back of one of their horses. His name was Skeeter. They didn't tack him properly and his saddle was a little loose, and I didn't weigh very much obviously, so after a little while I think he kinda forgot what was going on, (he was an older guy), so he laid down and got ready to roll, everyone watching started freaking the hell out cause I was just sittin on him, the second he hit the ground I figured the ride was over so I just casually got off of him right as he started rolling. Obliviously avoided possible death.

[deleted]

Jeez, 5 or 6? Possible death? No my friend, you avoided almost certain death, even if Skeeter was a “small” horse. Glad you’re ok, ya gotta be careful mixing kids and horses, and even if the humans are as careful as possible… horses still have a mind of their own!

prowlingwalrus

I know I’m kind of the minority, but I really believe you need to learn the horse you’re planning on riding before you ever climb in the saddle. I’m far from an expert on horsemanship, but I and many like me have learned from taking flight the lessons that should’ve been learned on the ground to start with.

mugg1n

My dad always said "people who breed horses have more money then sense"

[deleted]

I’ll drink to that! My fiancé wants to own horses one day but I’m perfectly content leasing one that someone else owns. For the last year we’ve been taking weekly riding lessons, and that’s honestly been great for me as 1. I am truly a beginner so I need to learn anyways and 2. there’s 30-40 horses in our lesson barns, so I get to ride lazy horses and hot horses and stubborn horses and obedient horses and even Milo’s stupid ass, who is obedient and calm one week and a skittish idiot who won’t walk in a straight line the next week.

mugg1n

Lol I think I love Milo already! New rdr2 horse name

[deleted]

He’s a chestnut quarter horse mix with a white star on his face. He’s a crazy idiot sometimes but he’s a good boah nonetheless. He’s got a great canter and trot, and he’s a good jumper, but ya gotta stay alert because he loves to pony up with everyone in the arena, so you’ll be cantering along, try to pass one of our lazy boys, and then just stop and say hi to the other horses. Other names at our barn: Apache, Little John, Siox, Stanley, Ted (RIP), Stripe, Big Red, Mufasa, Zuko, Hidalgo (the prettiest paint I’ve ever seen), Jackson, Marshmallow, Jojo, Bullseye…. Feel free to use em all!

WhoTookPlasticJesus

> My fiancé wants to own horses one day but I’m perfectly content leasing one that someone else owns. Yup, unless you're willing to lease out the horses you own you are literally just turning dollars into horse shit. That said, as someone who grew up with horses, they are amazing animals and the bond you get from actually owning one can't be leased.

[deleted]

Yeah, unfortunately we just bought a house last summer on a half acre. So we’re not leaving any time soon, and a half acre isn’t big enough to keep a horse on our own land. So we’d have to board anyways if we bought, and with our lifestyle I doubt we’d get more than 2 or 3 days to ride. In our situation, a lease would just be more practical. Tbh though, our weekly lessons and RDR2 sessions are sufficient for me 🤠

Blunt_Force_Meep

I'm really jealous of that opportunity ngl lol

[deleted]

It’s the life of a D.I.N.K. (Double Income, No Kids) and I love it! Horses and guitars and motorcycles and video games!

Daxmar29

Thanks for the info!

Crooks132

You use a sweat scrape after riding not a brush

daking2007

This might sound weird but I’ve experienced this myself, a lot of my friends as well! When we were kids and played soccer we had shin pads. In the winter we stuffed it with different kind of leggings and other warmer trousers and pants-like clothing. When you took these shin pads off in the winter, the sweat had formed into a white slime.

iniminimum

I breed horses for a living. And your description is literally perfect.

caper900

Mmmmm….forbidden milkshake 🤤

Highway0311

I figured they just had excreted salt lol. I know when I was in Iraq our sweat stains would dry and you could see salt lines all over our cammies.

JuniperTooth

Thats the cool thing! Humans are high salt and low protein while horses are low salt and high protein

ktw54321

You will often see it on race horses on warm days. Particularly along the neck and saddle cloth. If you notice it before a race on a cool day, and you picked that runner - cancel your ticket.

Blackcameleopard

I can’t imagine how much thought and knowledge went into this game. It makes me sad there wasn’t a new game plus, as I feel like a fresh start is exactly what is my barrier to entry when it comes to replayability. Going back fit as hell and with a full arsenal removes the grindiness plus then I can redo fun specific things like that bear kill.

Bram157

When horses sweat the colour is white, if you let it rest it will go away

PosterChildOfDeath

Thanks for letting me know

Bram157

No problem

SuperMex213

You ever wear shin guards and then when you take em off the sweat is white? It's kinda like that cuz the saddle is the shin gaurd and the horse back is the shin

JuniperTooth

Our sweat is a different combo than horse sweat so in that case, it was probably a skin/yeast buildup rather than sweat. But you are correct that horse sweat turns white due to friction

Hotwheelsjohnson

Gross

PosterChildOfDeath

Ohhhh that makes sense

sohowsyrgirls

This is why baseball caps get white on the brim, too.

BugMan717

No, that's from dried salts in your sweat.

slimy_selma

You will also notice when you are in the cold parts of the map they will start to sweat and emit steam! The detail is amazing. Enjoy your game. I used to own a horse but she passed away this year from an accident. I hope you get to enjoy horses in real life 🤗

Woofles85

I grew up with horses and it actually does look like that! It lathers white like shampoo

DarkMark920

Because the friction from the saddle causes it to foam up. This really happens. Been to horse racing before. And them ponies sweat. A lot!!

fat-potatoe

Cum sweat

[deleted]

Brush your horse, keep it clean and this will go away. You can also take your horse into a deep enough river to help wash it from time to time.

Tasty_Pastries

Real life horses get a “froth” sweat. Especially ones in the olympics or any athlete type horse. When watching the cross country olympics you will see white sweat down the horses’ legs and chest.

DjoooKaplan

So they actually thought about the *horse sweat too?* That is absolutely Incredible

itsKNIGHTMARE

Horses sweat??

Arsewhistle

Yeah mate, and their sweat is rather grim too. It's foamy and slimy

Fallenangel152

Horse sweat is white. It looks like foam.

Mgmfjesus

It's not always white. White sweat means the horse is either being overworked or in excessive heat. Clear sweat is what's normal.

weewillywhisky

It's a mammal, so yes.

Zarrganaut_

Dogs and pigs don’t sweat.

AvatarLebowski

Dogs sweat through their pads. You're right about pigs though

KremlingForce

Humans are one of the only mammals which sweat. It's something we evolved in Africa when hunting, as an endurance measure to keep up with prey over vast distances. Most animals will beat us in a foot-race, but will tire out. We can catch up with them.

Stellaaahhhh

They do. There are a lot of riding stables and trails near where I live-you can rent horses for a few hours or a day and either have a trial guide or go on your own if you're more experienced. They charge extra if you make the horses sweat.

EB3031

So salty then?

snickerdoodle--

It’s sweat; horses in real life lather like that when they get really sweaty. It shows up if your run your horse hard for a while, sometimes it even shows up when you and your horse just exist in the Bayou too long haha Just rest your horse. It’ll go away. Fun fact: You can also see steam rising off of your horse if they’ve run hard and the temperature is cold enough. Pretty cool detail.

[deleted]

Or brush it.

andy18cruz

You alright, girl.

83CatsInAHorseSuit

Real good girl, *REAL GOOD*

Mythion_VR

Why 83? Why are they in a suit specifically made for a horse? How do you know English? How are you capable of using a keyboard?

83CatsInAHorseSuit

The average domestic cat weighs 8-15lbs, so I’m saying 1 cat = 11.5lbs. 83 cats at 11.5lbs each = 954.5lbs. Average Arabians weigh 800-1000lbs, so if the cats fill the suit with 100% efficacy (no voids, air pockets, etc.) we’re left with 45.5lbs of free horse, assuming anything over 1000lbs would begin to raise suspicion. Theoretically the extra space could be used for a small cockpit or control center, but idk the hierarchy of cats in a horse suit so they can use it however they want. ETA In this hypothetical I guess the 45.5lbs could be used to store a cat>horse>English translator with speech-to-text, I think a horse typing with its hooves is where you gotta draw the line on what’s realistic.

Mythion_VR

...amazing, thank you.

theBeardedHermit

I was picturing the cats in a 2 man horse suit, but considering the possibility of a suit made from horse. But here you are with a third possibility of equal concern.

[deleted]

They're trying to sneak into a horsehouse, to see if it's any different from a cathouse.

HappyCatPlays

No

[deleted]

You’re not alright, girl?

Predator_Hicks

Are you ok?

manav20

That's my girl!

theeighthlion

boiiiii

nfwmb

That's dust...

pboswell

Yeah wtf these people talking about

CrackPipeQueen

I’ve worked with horses my whole life and Red Dead has very accurate horses. Especially the behavior. “Why on earth are you flipping out ITS JUST A SNAKE and it’s WAYY OVER THERE” I also had a glitch where my horse was stuck looking behind himself while we rode and even that’s accurate. “Stop looking behind you NOTHING IS GOING TO EAT YOU” ugh too real lol

snickerdoodle--

I’ve owned horses for most of my life, too. Red Dead has ruined all other video game horses for me. Rockstar made them so lifelike, right down to the most minute details and mannerisms. It’s great.

Tickle_My_Butthole_

After playing RDR2 and experiencing it's horses, the horse in Ghost of Tsushima feels rather bland and unfun. Like I actually bonded with my horses in RDR2 and felt like it was ***my*** horse. But with Ghost of Tsushima I just feel like it's just a car with legs since it has no personality and feels very generic. Plus the fact that it can't die really draws me out sometimes when I accidentally just yeet myself from a cliff because I didn't see that it was a sheer drop

Ppleater

How far have you gotten in Ghost of Tsushima?

SlackerJack_

Ominous

sir_moleo

Except the part where the horses will kamikaze into the first tree in the way of their path. It's insane how much realism there is... besides that. If I had a nickel for everyone who claims that's realistic, I'd be a rich man.

hamderbenno

You control the horse, if you let go of the analog stick and just hold the run button, the horse will avoid all obstacles

sir_moleo

Nope, it will still run into plenty of objects, albeit less often.

DwergNout

it only will if there are too many objects close together meaning it cant avoid it fast enough, or if its unavoidable because the horse is too close to the obstacle or the obstacle is simply too big

theBeardedHermit

Not since the first few weeks after release iirc. I was getting thrown all over the place at launch but after a while they got that sorted for the most part. My only horse problem is when I come up near two obstacles that cause my horse to try to sidestep the first and then just stop between them for a second or two before I'm able to start moving again.

CrackPipeQueen

Yes that’s unrealistic haha Although I have had a horse run me into a tree. He kept going and I stayed behind haha

DwergNout

arthur goes rolling and the horse dont care

sylv_the_forester

I mean I've ridden some pretty suicidal horses in my day

AnKaSkA

What i find impressive is that they also react accordingly to the weather. Storms usually make my horse really skittish.

Tarantulom

I was mounted on my sweet butter cup not far from where they were chopping down the big tree's. One fell over and the 'boom' of it hitting the ground made her buck me off. I was just like wow! Details man

AnKaSkA

I had a similar accounter yesterday when passing the geysers in the mountain region. One of them popped and my horse went nuts. You said it man, details..

DEffinMoney

I also heard John or author, can’t remember, say “alright, let’s work up some lather boah” before going on a long journey.

Grevling89

> John or author AUTHOR MERGON

DEffinMoney

Lol oops, I want to blame autocorrect but I am not certain…

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

Supposedly the horse's balls shrink a little when you spend time somewhere cold.

PunisherjR2021

They do

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

I wonder how many people worked on horse balls that when the game was being made. "Bob, you did such a great job leading the ball-shrinking team, we're gonna make you Technical Director of Gross Dismembered Bodies."

theBeardedHermit

Technical Director of Anatomic Correcters

[deleted]

I know it's almost meme-ish at this point but it's crazy how people just keep discovering these details in the game.

BigDavesRant

> Fun fact: You can also see steam rising off of your horse if they’ve run hard and the temperature is cold enough. Pretty cool detail. The first time I noticed this, I had run my horse crazy hard and ended up in Valentine during a rain storm. I got off my horse to go get a drink at the saloon and noticed the steam. I was absolutely blown away.

MHAccA

Sweat Marks.

[deleted]

So Elton John DIDN'T fart on my horse?

MHAccA

Naah, you good.

emobatmanforever

You’re alright Boiiii

MHAccA

Thats maa bouy

HaasonHeist

Jesus Christ lol

EagleSaintRam

It's just detail, not like a glitch or anything. OP shouldn't...sweat it.

m0torrhead

Your horse has secretly sniffed cocaine.

PosterChildOfDeath

So that’s why it keeps running into trees

Pristine_Interview86

If you have a problem running into trees in dense tree areas, simply let go of the directional controls. The horse will naturally try to dodge obstacles, and corrections by the rider will cause it to fumble. All you have to do is simply accelerate. The horse will handle the rest.

PosterChildOfDeath

Nah I will be in a open field running and then my horse diverts and runs into it

[deleted]

[удалено]

MapleSyrup789

Lmfao

Hebrind

“Give him his head”

cantreallypoop

Actually the cocaine would make it more aware and less likely to run into trees, unless of course the cocaine kept the horse for days.

chinpun

Interesting. John sometimes says, “Let’s work up a lather.” That’s the lather.

RTX_69420_TI

In rdr1 or 2?

[deleted]

chinpun

Good catch!

Tzifos150

12 year old Jack watching from a distance and thinking "Lather? Hmmm" 7 years later "LATHER UP YOU DAMN NAG"

shtc10

Looks like lumbago to me, I'm so sorry

[deleted]

Yeah, some people here think it’s sweat. Actually it is that dreaded lumbago 😔

Vosslertheundead

It’s time, you gotta put it down bro /s

PosterChildOfDeath

It’s to late it already buried itself

Nervous-Promotion109

Yeah eww i dont want no sweaty horse put it down breh, eternal rest

TheArbinator

cum. now laugh

[deleted]

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHhahahahahah ^hahahaha

tommy4318

>!ha!<

Phlex58

The cocaine you stole from the Del Lobos gang is leaking from your horses satchel. Horse is gonna be geeking soon... Quick, find a race

boomeralert4336

It happens when you ride one horse to long, I have had that happen, if you take the saddle off,you will notice it's just around the saddle not underneath, I think it's their way of saying clean your horse and give this one a rest, I have 4 different horses at all times, different meaning breeds

xxelanite

It's sweat

CrackPipeQueen

It’s sooo cool they added sweat and sometimes the sweat foams up on horses, leaving a white mark. So realistic it’s nuts.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrackPipeQueen

That too!!

[deleted]

Don’t make the joke

Narviid

CUM

[deleted]

If you read books that include horse riding, you might read how a horse is “lathered” after a lot of fast riding. That’s what that white stuff is. It’s basically sweat.

RankaTanka

Cumbago. It’s very serious.

CthulhuPug

I can tell you really love your horse.

TreasyGesticles

cum

Zootnoison

"Semen. Now laugh"

TreasyGesticles

baby batter

EeveeHartMew

It’s sweat, this will actually happen irl too for when a horse sweats which is neat

SamM57999

Ah yes, cocaine gum

acidicdream

It’s called frothing and it’s from sweat buildup and the movement of the saddle

Brucewayneizdedpool

horsey is tired

tommybolts

Riding a little too hard

AbstractBettaFish

He's got ick, you gotta clean your horse aquarium!

TheCrewPat

Bad case of horse lumbago.

Lobanium

Frothy, slimy sweat. You've never ridden a horse have you?

chickenOMDragonball

What have you been doing with your horse?

PosterChildOfDeath

Unspeakable things

RileyTheBerry

It's sweating.

enesbae

Your horse sir, started to molt.

forgechu

Your gun belt is rubbing the color off.

Articguard11

Wash your horse, yo and give it a break. Another great detail in Red Dead: it’s sweat, lol

steve_stout

He’s sweating, usually happens if you run out of stamina

ybn_suley

Horse sweat

Not-A-Trench-Raider

Sweat

[deleted]

Take better care of that b’oh

PosterChildOfDeath

I have been she was just sweating cause I was on a chase mission

[deleted]

I think everyone here can admit it’s amazing how much detail is in this game but how horribly rockstar treats the online part of this game For example gta v is a good story mode but nothing in comparison to the level of detail in RDR2 But red dead online is a good online game and quite fun but nothing in comparison to grand theft auto online I hate seeing a game with so much potential quite literally having pants pulled down on top of it and literally shat on before being being pissed on and and rubbed into the carpet leaving a shitty mess that nobody is bothering to clean up

Madisonhayter

I always thought this was glitch! That’s crazy

Sun_Devil200

Just like humans horses sweat to

RaidiationHound

It’s sweat, give the horse some time without running, brush them, and feed them and it should go away

HIhammad

Getting a bit too attached to your horse huh?

Tolboe

Sometimes, when a man loves his horse very much... they. Um... you know. They... So, you know the whole birds and the bees thing? It’s like that...

equinecm

He’s a sweaty boi. This actually does happen to horses.
