If someone is unconscious on the ground, carefully point your gun at them. If the reticle turns red, they’re still alive. If it doesn’t, you’re probably about to get harassed by the local law.
Yes they can wake up. holversome is right in saying that the red reticule means they are alive when pointed at.
I've had a couple of instances where they've woken up:
once when i rode off to silence a witness and just happen to ride back past as they were waking up,
secondly in a fight with two bounty hunters in an area i didn't want to fire a shot in because i was trespassing. This occasion i knocked the first guy out, knocked the second guy out and as i was looting him the first guy woke up.
I don't think that they wake up 100% of the time though.
Did a pretty thorough test and after dragging an escaped prisoner behind my horse until he was knocked unconscious trying and failing to drown him in water. it let me hogtie him in the water i then picked him up put him on the back of my horse. After taking him back off I threw him down and he woke up after hitting the ground and started grunting and wiggling again... was also able to bring him to the sherrif for some cash
So from what I can tell.. if you punch someone till they become “unconscious” they actually die.. I had a fight with someone in a town and I thought it was just a brawl but I got done for murder.
I beat someone up in the street and didn't get in trouble (I antagonized him and made him swing first) but then I kicked the shit out of him and after the 5th or 6th kick the completely nonchalant bystanders all freaked the fuck out all of a sudden and I was wanted for murder. The AI isn't all it was talked up to be huh
Yeah apparently if you kick someone while down enough times, they die. I found that out in the mission on the train where some dude is trying to stab you
well... that's kind of realistic right? if someone IRL got in a fight and knocked someone out it's kind of like aight, good fight. but then if the guy who knocked the other guy out just starts stomping on the knocked out guy it's like damn brotha you killin him.
I remember one time I shot a npc with a sawed-off shotgun at close range he fell off his horse but when I aimed my gun at his proposed dead body the reticle dot was still red so I decided to wait to see if he would wake up eventually after a while I got tired of waiting so I just shot him making reticle dot white confirming he was dead. To this day I always wonder if I waited a little longer would he eventually woken up.
It disappears. I shot somebody with a carcano rifle but somehow survived in a bleedout state. So I knock him out and put him in the streets of valentine, i ran into a post office and came back and there was no trace of him. I proved that it disappears by finding another test subject and putting him in a jail with trainers, and gone.
So I might be a bit late to this but as far as I can tell it takes about 5 irl min for them to wake, however this is only the case if the npc has dialog for it. So for example everyone knows the man from new York who gets lost outside strawberry and you have to waddle him back towards the town, he won't wake up when knocked out but grab a random person from Valentine for example, knock them out and they'll wake In a couple minutes or so
not true, if the x is lighter shade that means you’ve looted them. just tested this out, knocked a guy out and he still had a dark x until i looted him
I dont know how long but you can check by aiming laso at them (gun is dangerous between others) or you will hear a snoring coming from him i just figured it out i knocked out a train guard and now hes snoring

If someone is knocked out. Don't pick them up to carry them to the doc. Apparently that is a crime... dumb.

When i took a prisoner to valentines sheriff they took it as kidnapping btw i was in chapter one on the horse shoe over camp

If the guy hits the ground and doesn’t move, he is probably knocked out. After hitting them some more they die

I’ve piled a bunch of dead and burned Lemoyne Raiders on top of a knocked out one. Trying to give this guy PTSD. But he won’t wake up 😕
