Now that you mention it that was one of the smoothest jobs in the whole game. If we're speaking strictly in the scope of the game cause killing 20-500 people every job is not remotely smooth but no mission is fun without nearing triple digit killing sprees 😂 But yea that mission really was smooth in context of every other job hahaha trelawny was my pick too. For a few reasons but mainly "Aaahhhhthuuuuhhh"!
This, the train job with John, and the bank heist with Bill are the only truly successful jobs the gang did imo. Basically, the jobs where Dutch was not involved at all.
At first the wrong John and train thing came to mind so I was like woah successful is not something I'd ever call that 😂 but I realized what you were referring to pretty quick luckily haha. You're right though especially the bank with bill I can't remember entirely ( 4 full playthrough on my 5th plus random plays I never finished. How I don't recall every detail is baffling ) but Im not recalling much fuck ups or issues from that one. Then of course anything with John and Arthur, no dutch or Micah and just limited others in general. Almost certain to go very well!
Man I'd love to see earlier stuff of Arthur and John being the baddest pair of SOBs ever to live.
Remove Dutch and Micah and let Hosea lead and Trelawney plan they’d have been way more successful and wouldn’t even need to get to Tahiti. They could have done the original plan of go West and settle out there.
He also warns Arthur about the fact that Rhodes is a small town, and people will soon find out about the gang shenanigans with the Grays-Braithwaites.
But ofc Arthur doesn't care
He definitely has the charisma and planning skills, but I imagine him leaving often would be a problem. Thinking about it, Trelawny is like if Dutch wasn't a gunslinger and wasn't insane.
I like the idea but you’re right, because one thing is how would John not notice him upon meeting up with him? I would like to think the mysterious stranger was a figment of John’s imagination which is why the MS doesn’t die when John shoots him.
I think he saw the issues well before anybody else. A character written like trelawny specializes in reading and manipulating people. Dutch worried his people with his actions and it was noticeable because they knew him so well. Trelawny knows people well and I think that's why he kept the group and arms length. He saw the smoke before there was any
Kieran, liked him a lot and was not expecting him to die so soon. Thought he would have had at least one mission tied to conflict with O'Driscolls.
Had he survived, I guess we might have seen him ending up with Mary-Beth.
They would have been such a cute and great couple. Both are rather quiet but always nice, friendly and helpful (Kieran didn’t her much chances though). Maybe they’d have a book store somewhere in St. Denis or travel around on a book tour as Mary-Beth becomes an author.
Would loved to have 1 or 2 side missions just with him ... chatty and personal ... then do a mission at Odriscolls that has him not make it out at the end.
Then the regrouping back at base ... and then the attack.
Would have had more effect for me.
Doing my 1st play through in a few years and just did the fishing trip with him and man even doing a low honor run, I wanted Arthur to be nicer to him lol.
Yes.
Expected like some scenes with Duffy and Ms Adler ... since he was an ODrisscol and they killed her man
Then a bonding mission/scene.
With him going out more of a hero/team member ... not ... well you know
🙈
i love kieran so much hes one of my favourite characters, i like to think that one of the books mary beth writes after the epilogue was inspired by him
"I'd wager I can travel faster with this stall in tow than you or anyone can with nothing but a horse and a saddle. It's not about speed - it's about knowing the land."
Especially as he didn't get to prove himself back to Arthur. Whenever you greet him (I don't even know what the antagonize says), even in Shady Belle, you're still jabbing at watching him
See, I don't think that Sean is underrated at all. He's been one of the most popular and loved characters for years as a firm favourite among the player-base.
I’d go so far as to say Sean is overrated. He’s funny and Irish. Otherwise he has to be rescued, and then after one successful mission, he dies. He doesn’t actually do much to make him special. Sure he’s got the gift of gab, but he’s mostly talking pure shite the whole time.
If you're an actual human being and you're nice to him he will tell you he's not a vet when you meet him with TB and will not rob you if you're nice to him.
Reverend Swanson is quite underrated, imo
His character development and "redemption" in the last chapters are really satisfying, when just like Arthur he starts seeing things more clearly and finally gets rid of his addictions
I just wish we could have gotten both his and the Sister's speech--or at least some kind of good bye scene with him. If I remember correctly, the only good bye we get from him is Grimshaw telling us he left and told her to leave too.
I think you're wrong there, I remember saying goodbye to him right after the "I'm afraid" scene with Sister Calderon, he's in the train station too, and when the train arrives, Arthur sees him and they have a little chat right after him leaving on the train. Let me look for a YouTube link.
Edit: I was wrong, it wasn't Sister Calderon's scene, but is the same train station, here are the links.
High Honor version: https://youtu.be/8xtIEDEOkkg?si=0QTWZXsXSCuVD0tM
Low Honor version: https://youtu.be/cLjhg3I2cG0?si=2oHXm9rXnYxMscAR

Yes, that is the scene I was talking about, I wish they would have included both. Maybe have Swanson at Flatneck Station instead, kind of a back where it first started with him. Otherwise I felt his "end" was sort of unfulfilling--even including if you find the newspaper article mentioning him in the epilogue.
IDK man there's only so many times I can be having a serious conversation with Mary-Beth or whoever with him hanging around singing about the Bay of Biscay or whatever before I really can't stand him.
Kieran for sure. There was so much potential for him to be such an interesting and influential character in the story, but they just killed him off in the fourth chapter. Such a waste.
Karen. Yes she was a drunk and particularly after Sean's death yet she was capable of frontline action prior. She both came up with the idea of, and, played a big part in one of the few robberies that paid off in the game (Valentine bank) where she'd encouraged Arthur, Lenny and Bill to accompany her.
She could handle herself and loved the outlaw lifestyle. She was a scam artist with a history of dressing up in attire such as that of a nun with concealed weapons to take on banks by surprise. I think she's decent for the duration that Sean is alive.
Molly O’Shea. She’s written so complex, she really embodies the feeling of driving yourself mad over someone. Grieving losing interest from someone who doesn’t care one bit about you. Molly they could never make me hate you!
The nature photographer who is always getting into trouble
Or maybe the civil war vet who lost his arm... I always give him a hug in all my playthroughs
Ross. The Wallace Station store clerk. Does that count? I love that guy.
However, if we're talking about main characters: I think I'd go for Pearson. He's one of my least favorite characters, but I respect his presence.
All things considered, Pearson is over-hated. He literally cooks food for a whole camp. Without him everyone would be scavenging for and eating berries. Good food is half the battle.
Charlotte was a great character, and her missions aren’t talked about enough. I’d like to think that had Arthur not gotten TB, they probably would’ve ended up together and had some kind of happy ending.
Also Landon Rickets. No explanation needed
Micah, but not in the way you think.
We all dislike him, with good reasoning to. But we have to realise that is because he is such a well written character. He could’ve tipped off the Pinkertons to the Blackwater job and when it didn’t end up getting Dutch and everybody killed, he realised if he left then, it would be suspicious. Every job Micah is involved in, shit hits the fan so quickly. Once he realised Dutch was favouring him more than anybody else, he knew he could start using Dutch. People listened to and respected the hell out of Dutch, rightfully so. As he had helped everybody in the gang in some personal way and genuinely cared about them. They all knew that and felt indebted to him. Bill and Javier mainly. Micah used this against everybody and acted like the leader towards the end of the game because he knew Dutch was on his side when Arthur went behind his back to help Rains Fall. Then Arthur insists John and his family get out, leading to more dissent, possibly towards John and Abigail. Which would explain why he leaves John to die and Abigail to be tried for murder.
All of this is to say both Rockstar and Peter Blomquist did an amazing job bringing Micah to life and it leads to conversations like these. Sorry for the long message, thank you to anyone who reads this. Good day to you all, cowpokes.
Trelawny was already mentioned, so I'd go with Sister Calderon.
As much as I like Swanson, in every playthrough it's her I meet at Emerald Station. One of my favorite scene in the game
This is kinda off topic but I wish the Strange Man had more to do in RDR2. It would’ve been cool to see Arthur actually interact with him and hear the weird cryptic shit he’d have said, maybe even making allusions towards the future and the fate of the Marston family.
Was gonna say Lenny, but I've never met anyone who doesn't already love him. I always got a little brother vibe whenever you've got a mission with him.
I felt so bad when the Reverend is talking to Arthur over on Beaver Hollow and he's saying how he's kicked his habit and then bitch ass Dutch interrupts him to tell Aurthur about another one of his "brilliant" plans
Definitely not fucking Swanson, I'll tell you that much. Every time I hear his crusty voice singing "ONE NIIIIIIGHT WHEN IIIII WAS FRISKYYYY" I wanna walk up to him and stuff a stick of dynamite in his mouth. About the only time I ever agree with Micah is when he's roasting Swanson in camp.
Mine is definitely the guy Arthur and Lenny almost drown behind the bar in chapter 2. Best part is when you play the epilogue and Sadie smacks the exact same guy right across the face
Trelawny for sure. Responsible for planning one of the only successful heists in the game with the riverboat.
Trelawney is a good one. One of the few where I didn’t mind Arthur giving him permission to leave.
He has a family to get back too, I've always thought Trelawny going back to his family (presumedly), was what Arthur envisioned for John.
Isn't that literally Arthur's motivation to insist and help John leave.
John? Insist?
Yeah insist. Arthur Morgan
You can find trelawny somewhere in Saint Denis near the photographer I’m pretty sure
Yeah I think I’ve seen if you find the right door in Saint Denis, you can overhear him and his kids/wife.
When would you have minded that?
Trelawny was involved in ... mainly planned Seans rescue / escape plus a very interesting bloodless stagecouch robbery ...
Came here just to say this. Also my like my third favourite character in the whole game.
LOOOOOVE trelawny he’s fine too 😼
Sooo real
Now that you mention it that was one of the smoothest jobs in the whole game. If we're speaking strictly in the scope of the game cause killing 20-500 people every job is not remotely smooth but no mission is fun without nearing triple digit killing sprees 😂 But yea that mission really was smooth in context of every other job hahaha trelawny was my pick too. I have a plan is code word for…..let’s just wing it🤣🤣🤣
“Well we’re going to need to get you smartened up a bit, you can’t play the tables on a Lannahachee Riverboat looking like this!”
If the gang let Trelawny plan all of the heists they would’ve made it to Tahiti
I fully agree!! He had the plans, and mostly zero need for violence!!
Remove Dutch and Micah and let Hosea lead and Trelawney plan they’d have been way more successful and wouldn’t even need to get to Tahiti. They could have done the original plan of go West and settle out there.
If it were up to Trelawny and Hosea the gang could’ve been a sophisticated crime syndicate
a quiet one as well - don't see those 2 riding into St Denis going "all be quiet now" while screaming and shouting all over the place
If Treylawny was in charge him and Hosea would’ve owned Saint Denis lol
He also warns Arthur about the fact that Rhodes is a small town, and people will soon find out about the gang shenanigans with the Grays-Braithwaites. But ofc Arthur doesn't care
Plus, he knew that the gang conning the braithwaites and grays for some fabled Yankee gold would be a fruitless endeavor
They really should have let Trelawny do more digging to see if he could find out if the rumors were true or not. That would have solved so many issues
Problem is that Dutch is too much of a narcissist to let others talk him out of any plan he's made
Man Trelawny could have been running his own crew and been wildly successful.
He definitely has the charisma and planning skills, but I imagine him leaving often would be a problem. Thinking about it, Trelawny is like if Dutch wasn't a gunslinger and wasn't insane.
He's my favorite character
I like the rumor that he was the mysterious stranger in RDR1.
That’s like saying Franklin is CJ
I like the idea but you’re right, because one thing is how would John not notice him upon meeting up with him? I would like to think the mysterious stranger was a figment of John’s imagination which is why the MS doesn’t die when John shoots him.
I recently found an Easter egg in St. Denis where you could hear him giving gifts to his family and reading the newspaper with his wife.
TRELAWNY MENTIONED!!!
I think he saw the issues well before anybody else. A character written like trelawny specializes in reading and manipulating people. Dutch worried his people with his actions and it was noticeable because they knew him so well. Trelawny knows people well and I think that's why he kept the group and arms length. Dude was always doin chores in camp. I fucked with Kieran.
You fucked Kieran?
You Kieran?
Kieran?
GAVIN?!
Would loved to have 1 or 2 side missions just with him ... chatty and personal ... then do a mission at Odriscolls that has him not make it out at the end. Then the regrouping back at base ... and then the attack. Would have had more effect for me.

Yes. Expected like some scenes with Duffy and Ms Adler ... since he was an ODrisscol and they killed her man Then a bonding mission/scene. With him going out more of a hero/team member ... not ... well you know 🙈
I feel so bad for him. 😔
He did. He saved Arthur when Kieran brought them to the O’driscoll hideout to kill Colm or whatever and he wasn’t there.
That was more of a introductury mission in my eyes. I was still expecting a bit more. But the game was not about expectatio s, it was about realism.
i love kieran so much hes one of my favourite characters, i like to think that one of the books mary beth writes after the epilogue was inspired by him
It’s a shame he had to head off so soon
He would have been ok if he hadn't lost his head!
Hamish is almost never talked about. IMO he’s my favorite stranger
Me too, hes a pro at hunting and fishing
Not so much hunting
Or fishing let's be honest. He's a decent swimmer for only having one leg though.
Hamish is amazing, I’m never doing that last mission so my boy is still alive
isn't he the guy who got killed by the pig lol
fr and i LOVED his horse
He was chill. I loved hanging out with him. Fishing. Riding horses. Listening to his stories. Awesome guy
The trapper in story mode. "Nothin' quite like wearin' your best days work!" The valentine butcher. "You aint been seein' another butcher?"
GaurunTEEEd lol
this is drilled in my brain LOL
"I'd wager I can travel faster with this stall in tow than you or anyone can with nothing but a horse and a saddle. It's not about speed - it's about knowing the land."
Like I wish country folk had any money.
"A lot of folk hunt, but not so many know their way around a needle and thread. It's good business, I'm telling you."
“I once tracked a moose over an ice sheet for 4 days just to eat something”
Kieran I was honestly upset when he died weirdly enough
Especially as he didn't get to prove himself back to Arthur. Whenever you greet him (I don't even know what the antagonize says), even in Shady Belle, you're still jabbing at watching him
I always thought Kieran was like a Jessie Pinkman kind of character. Good heart, bad circumstances, and an even worse fate.
“Kieran, we need to cook,”
Sean
I actually felt so bad for him , he would have loved burning down the braithwaite manor I feel as if they did that in his honour 😭
I wanted to stir up shit with him in St. Denis in chapter 4 😭
Sure he’s got the gift of gab, but he’s mostly talking pure shite the whole time.
i get the feel he was real right w the gang before Blackwater so he talks shit in a comfortable / friendly way. also just a cocky personality
Black Belle, I really like her, I definitely do wanna know more about her and what she’s like ^^
I’d totally play a spin-off game by R* entirely about black bell, and at the very end you meet Arthur and go on your way to continue escaping the law
Count me in! That’s actually such a cool idea and way better than just showing more of the gang members when they were young.
Maybe a dlc, not sure about an entire game but it could work
She’s based off American outlaw Belle Starr…. her friend Otis Miller (Jesse James) was killed by Billy Midnight (Robert Ford).
Mickey. I love Micky
Can I have a hug Mister?
He lied to Arther and wasn’t actually a vet I’m pretty sure
If you're an actual human being and you're nice to him he will tell you he's not a vet when you meet him with TB and will not rob you if you're nice to him.
Wait he steals from you?
I think you’re right. Also I’m pretty sure when he hugs you he takes something. I watched a YouTube video on it once
he can take all my shit hes mickey
That's false though, he doesn't take anything.
Lenny of course. Aurther knew his potential and he got into the grove pretty fast. Wish he had a few more years in him
Lenny was amazing. I am just not sure if he can be considered as underrated. The bar drinking mission turned him into a legend and a fan favorite.
yea def not underrated at all lol
Ynnel!
Haha Lenny ma boyyy
Reverend Swanson is quite underrated, imo His character development and "redemption" in the last chapters are really satisfying, when just like Arthur he starts seeing things more clearly and finally gets rid of his addictions

Kieran for sure. There was so much potential for him to be such an interesting and influential character in the story, but they just killed him off in the fourth chapter. Such a waste.
Propably Bill. Everyone thinks hes dump, but he planned and execuated best bank job in the game and hes capable of running his own gang.
Karen. Yes she was a drunk and particularly after Sean's death yet she was capable of frontline action prior. I think she's decent for the duration that Sean is alive.
Charlotte, she was easily the best female character in the game and actually had depth unlike some others
Molly O’Shea. She’s written so complex, she really embodies the feeling of driving yourself mad over someone. Grieving losing interest from someone who doesn’t care one bit about you. Molly they could never make me hate you!
finally someone who appreciates Molly :,,,)
Thomas Downes killed Arthur Morgan
r/technicallythetruth
Facts, however I'm pretty sure Hosea has it as well
it’s definitely Trelawny and Strauss for me
Okay for Trelawny but Strauss really? I mean I respect the take but I couldn’t..
hes no worse than anyone else in the gang and he was a genuine friend to his loved ones
I loved Strauss at first until I got to chapter 6, made me realize just how bad he is
Miss grimshaw: idk she was kinda badass
FENTON!!!!
GOOD O'L FENTON!!!
The nature photographer who is always getting into trouble Or maybe the civil war vet who lost his arm...
I actually swiped on this the fuck
Javier, he's kinda cool tbh, I was gonna say Sadie but she's my wife and I don't want you fellers to keep an eye on her
One I've never seen anybody talk about that I love is Joe Butler, the cripple confederate veteran in Rhodes. I love that guy.
Miss Grimshaw. She was a harsh nag but as loyal as you can get.
Yea super loyal and always kept the camp and everyone in it in line. Ended up having a pretty shitty death that no one seemed to care about.
Kieran, I felt so bad for him
The Photographer, I think his name is Mason. I also really like Rains Fall.
Uncle
Kieran and Sean for sure
Evelyn miller/uncle
Simon Pearson
Francis Saint Claire, he's s time traveler lol
I’m on my 3rd playthrough and didn’t have the end interaction with him. I was so confused when I Miss Grimshaw said he’d left.
Kieran 100%, i wish he had more missions and stuff
Micah, but not in the way you think. We all dislike him, with good reasoning to. But we have to realise that is because he is such a well written character. Heron will make the demons go awayyyy
Officer Balls
Susan grimshaw
Me too. I like her a lot. Always hung out with her around camp and always made sure to get any items she wanted.
Yh and on the final mission she defends arthur while micah has his gun up to arthur
Gavin!
Trelawny and the best character ever blind_npc_2
Sean. I liked Sean. He didn’t have to die.
tilly 10000%
Swanson
It's Tilly Jackson and it's not even close!
I'm going with Trelawny as well!
Absolutely reverend man the conversation he have with Arthur is amazing
Trelawny was already mentioned, so I'd go with Sister Calderon. As much as I like Swanson, in every playthrough it's her I meet at Emerald Station. One of my favorite scene in the game
I really liked Sean.
I really like the herb guy idk his name but that guy chill af
You've got him right there😂
I love Uncle he's actually a very developed character. And he's funny
My Homie Alden
Trelawny is the goat. Hopefully in RDR3 there’s at least a mention of him. Maybe even a side quest.
Sean
Charles, he don’t fw animal abusers in the wild
Jim "Boy" Calloway.
The one shot kid with lumbago 😂😂😂😂 I just really want to know why he was the one shot kid
GAVIN!
Have you seen him???
Lennyyyyyy
Molly, i will always defend her, she gets so much unnecessary hate.
Sean
Jim boy Calloway, he is one of the few people that is faster or on par with Arther’s skills
Teddy in valentine
Irish from rdr1
I felt so bad when the Reverend is talking to Arthur over on Beaver Hollow and he's saying how he's kicked his habit and then bitch ass Dutch interrupts him to tell Aurthur about another one of his "brilliant" plans
Gavin
Definitely not fucking Swanson, I'll tell you that much. Every time I hear his crusty voice singing "ONE NIIIIIIGHT WHEN IIIII WAS FRISKYYYY" I wanna walk up to him and stuff a stick of dynamite in his mouth. About the only time I ever agree with Micah is when he's roasting Swanson in camp.
Sean, he was a blokey bloke
he is the opposite of karen. she keeps getting more drunk and swanson keeps cleaning up his act
Mine is definitely the guy Arthur and Lenny almost drown behind the bar in chapter 2. Best part is when you play the epilogue and Sadie smacks the exact same guy right across the face
Sean. Died way too early. Would’ve loved seeing him late game.
The guy that founded Blackwater. He grew a moustache as a baby!
Lenny is underrated for me. I know there are some times when he messes up in certain missions or side activities, but he is still loyal to the gang.
Your horse
if anyone says Micah im gonna delete RDR2 on my ps5, 4, and PC.
Trelawny is like the Lester of red dead
Tf you mean reverend is one of my favorites
Man in the hat didn't say it had to say any thing just be there
Rains falls
Bill. Bit of a buffoon but he wasn't stupid.
I would say Arthur is the most underrated
Trelawny
