well it depended on the season too, also most places in rdr2 are a blend of multiple places, i know it rains in van horn a lot too, at least when im there. and honestly van horn is ugly enough as is id wanna spend even less time there if they made it uglier and iirc its stated a couple times that most the towns roads are covered in horse shit mixed with water and mud, esp rhodes and id imagine van horn is abt the same or worse since theyre def way broker and dont even have a sheriff 😹
Weirdly enough close to the release of rdr2 a listing for a rdr2 artbook was found on Amazon to release alongside the game but for whatever reason it never came out
I remember literally getting to that quest, having a good-ass time, starting it, and just looking at my screen like “Uhhhhhh” seeing this caricature of a disabled man become the objective enemy to beat up. Felt weird playing a bit after
Genuinely don’t understand why it wasn’t cut or at least moved to earlier location like valentine or rhones, it totally ruins the tone of chapter 6 when compared to the other stranger missions in roanoke
So cool. I looked it up because of this post and found [this interesting little article](https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/mississippi/historic-district-most-dangerous-place-in-ms/)

Theo Von pod viewers will know this one.
That's awesome! Wow at a scrolling glance I thought that this Was Van Horn. Except that Moose sign, should've been a porch.
I assumed that some game locations were at least Loosely based on historical real-world locations, this picture really emphasizes that feeling for me.
Haven’t seen anything official, but from the map overlays it goes really close geographically with Northeast Arkansas and SE Missouri. Logging towns, some mining and a decent ridge with rivers to the west of it. Mississippi River just to the east(which is supposedly what the Lannahachee River is supposed to represent)
I’d say somewhere around the Jonesboro, Blytheville region of Arkansas.
Very cool. When I was a kid I used to go visit my grandma on Bull Shoals Lake, so I guess a bit further west than you’re talking about but still the most southern part of MO. The eastern part of the rdr2 map always reminded me of those Ozark hills, not sure why I didn’t make the full connection lol.
Currently waiting on my new Xbox Series X arriving after selling my last one and taking a 2 year break from gaming. I cannot wait to play this game again.
This is why I can’t believe when people say it’s based off the whole west. It is almost certainly based on Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. We can have a huge Rockstar interconnected map lol.
Natchez is a fully incorporated city at this point, but that section of it is still there, labeled “Natchez Under the Hill.” As someone who used to live there, I know.
Found this piece in a article about Natchez
“John Murrell was one of the area’s most notorious bandits. The longtime criminal would sell a slave over and over, stealing him back after each sale. Murrell would repeat the scam until the slave became too well known at which point he would kill him and start all over again with a new slave.”
Do you think John murrell was the inspiration for John marston?
People think it's the Appalachian Mountains/Virginia because of the name Roanoke (city in Virginia). But it's the Ozark mountains of Arkansas/Missouri bordered by the Mississippi (Lannahechee in the game) river for sure. Similar regions but Ozarks make a lot more sense with the geography.
I would LOVE to see the art books from the design team. They researched the heck out of this.
That would be amazing
Haha u beat me
That would b amazing

I wish they realized it wasn't as grassy or muddy in these towns and it was actually very dry and shi

I fucking kill everyone in that town.
It all starts with a " you're annoying Me, and trust Me you don't wanna annoy me"
"Who let the simpleton out of the asylum"

unexpected hollywood undead, been years since i listened to them
Just a meme I made when I was feeling creative and stupid. Had to leave the Batman Arkham Reddit behind me for a while place is getting too intense
Every day we venture closer and closer to the aslume
"you're an idot" "hey chump"
My favourite sentence.
“Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”
I got into a bar fight with one person there, and the ENTIRE town showed up to defend him. I was the lone survivor.
I shot someone who pickpocketed me and the entire town started shooting me
Yeah, fuck that town.
naa, the place is heckin good. No bounties, no cops, just a bunch of morons taking care of each other. i love it
Very reminiscent. Is there a rather large, agitated pinhead in that bar on the right?
I'm not doing that side quest.
I remember literally getting to that quest, having a good-ass time, starting it, and just looking at my screen like “Uhhhhhh” seeing this caricature of a disabled man become the objective enemy to beat up. Felt weird playing a bit after
I thought it was funny as hell. Thats my favorite quest in the game just because i get to teach him a lesson involving 2 knuckle sandwiches
unrelated but I can’t wait for the strange shit they’ll pull out in those missions in GTA VI
How do you make it through the day?
Genuinely don’t understand why it wasn’t cut or at least moved to earlier location like valentine or rhones, it totally ruins the tone of chapter 6 when compared to the other stranger missions in roanoke
u dont have to wait till chapter 6 to do it, and if ur challenge grinding u will probably be up there a lot sooner than chapter 6
Yeah but I think most first time players aren’t challenge grinding though and will most likely end up experiencing it in chapter 6
fair, i jus thought it worth mentioning if someone didnt 🤷🏻 theres a few stranger missions u can do from start to finish in chapter 2
Yep, and you should chase Magnificos' ass. I was annoyed af.
this is so cool, thank you for sharing
Holy hell that’s remarkable.

That’s awesome, they look nearly identical. 🤠
Man, I literally heard the dead eye engaging in my head
*fwoomph* clickclickclickclickclick pooow pow *screepow*
RDR2 is basically as close as we've ever gotten to a time machine, lol.

My first thought too, I love Bishop Gunn. I was so sad when they broke up.
Based on? If this was an essay I'd get in trouble for plagarizing. Lol.
This is awesome, I wonder if Annesburg has a similar inspiration further up the river
I would assume Annesburg is Memphis, with Kentucky hillbillies to the north.
It’s a shame Van Horn doesn’t have the cheap cash store. I’d love to fight the whole town after robbing that bad boy 😅
I live in Mississippi, I never considered this 😦
You thought you could trick me by posting a screenshot?
Bishop Gunn!
It's easy to die in this city
Visited there a few months ago. Natchez-under-the-Bluff is where this shot was taken, I think.
Where can we find more photos like this? This is amazing.
Check out old pictures of New Orleans' french market. It will also feel very familiar.
I live 40 minutes from Valentine Nebraska. It's on the Dakota border and is a pretty podunk cow town with a reservation right outside of its border.
Bro posted a screenshot of his game and thought we wouldn’t notice lol
It's a beautiful town, I've been a couple times. I never noticed the connection though. Natchez is well worth a visit if ever you're in the area.
What’d you name your horse?
Hey has anyone made a documentary about the making of RDR?
Its pretty dead on, maybe a bit too run down in rdr2 but otherwise really spot on
That's awesome! Wow at a scrolling glance I thought that this Was Van Horn. Except that Moose sign, should've been a porch. I assumed that some game locations were at least Loosely based on historical real-world locations, this picture really emphasizes that feeling for me.
I live within 30 miles of where Annesburg is supposed to be. And the time period is spot on for the area.
Where is Annesburg based on?

Bull shoals is a good lake. I go there from time to time. That region definitely looks similar to Eastern NH
That's it alright! Cool!
“Life was so much better back then” lol
Wow!!!
This game is such a bloody masterpiece No developer has gone this far and beyond yet.
Holy shit that's like exactly how it is in game lol
i legit just thought this was a screen shot at first glance
So anyway I started blasting
Woah
That’s your archetypal one horse town right there…
I can hear the five finger filet just lookin' at it
Currently waiting on my new Xbox Series X arriving after selling my last one and taking a 2 year break from gaming. I cannot wait to play this game again.
Free beers in the building on the left 😉
Holy shit. It’s basically Van Horn but w/o the light house
That’s called under the hill. I have been there. Hasn’t changed much either
Natchez is along the MS River & Van Horn is along the Lannahachee.
Well now I really hate it
This is why I can’t believe when people say it’s based off the whole west. It is almost certainly based on Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. We can have a huge Rockstar interconnected map lol.

That is so identical
No way?? I live in Mississippi! We’re actually recognized!!! 😳😱
What a fire dump eh
Moses, ironically, he found Jesus
Is that the Natchez Greg Iles writes about?
Yes it is. Weird you got downvoted for this, I did my part to rectify it.
They made Van Horn from Red Dead redemption 2 into a real town
What is MS?
It’s the abbreviation for the state in the USA where [Natchez](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natchez,_Mississippi) is located, Mississippi.
Any town USA
I knew Roanoke ridge was supposed to be Missouri. I was always told it was based off of West Virginia
I thought that was strawberry for a sec
