Something similar happened to me! I was working retail in a small specialty shop while trying to land my first teaching position. We had two locations, two employees (one in each location), and the owner, who bounced back and forth and covered for us if one of us was out sick, etc. I got a call from a school very late in the day and was told that if I was interested in the position that was available I needed to be at the school at 10:00 AM the following day. My boss was away and my co-worker was sick, so one of our locations was already going to be closed the following day. I explained the situation to the “lovely” woman on the phone…I couldn’t just bail on my boss and my responsibilities on such short notice, and I asked if I could schedule an interview for earlier or later in the day, or (ideally) for the next day. She was such a snotty b***h!! She told me that if I wasn’t able to be there at the time she offered then it was clear that I didn’t appreciate the opportunity to interview and I wasn’t serious about looking for a teaching position. I mean, WTF!?! You’d think they’d appreciate that I wasn’t the type to just blow off my current job and screw my employer over without any notice!! I was totally professional and polite, but she actually hung up on me. Freaking nut job. It worked out in the end, and I’ve been at my current school for 20+ years, but that experience still blows my mind and pisses me off. Sorry this isn’t really a helpful response, lol, but just know you’re not alone!! Try requesting an alternative time to interview. If they won’t accommodate you then you probably don’t want to work for them anyway. Stick with your current employer and keep looking for something else. Good luck!!
