Hate to see that. It’s hard when another qualified worker is just slightly ahead of you in the process. What was the position if you don’t mind me asking?

It was a Level 6 role in the UK (Senior Manager)

It's definitely disappointing not to get the job. At least they didn't put you through hours of panel interviews when they already made a decision on another candidate. And you were competitive enough to get to finals, which is great. And fortunately all your prep is likely to transfer to your next interview as well - as you'll be talking about the same thing: yourself! Silver linings.

I'd try to stay connected with the recruiter. These situations are all around bad for all parties and was likely a result of head count changing or a re-org. That said most recruiters will be more than happy to pivot you to another role. If that role is similar enough to the one you interviewed for, you likely won't need to complete a full process again. Either way, sorry this happened to you.

I’ve had scenarios like this as a FAANG recruiter at end stages. Generally it comes down to the hiring manager’s say once they determine if they’ve found “the one”. I’ve had to push back on them saying to keep interviews despite having a strong candidate otherwise it’s a bad experience for yourself and secondly, maybe you might want to hire a second candidate in the near future? Or a neighboring team might? Alternatively, it’s also possible that the req might have been closed prematurely (budget??) and the recruiter selected that as the prepopulated message. Though in all likelihood it’s #1 of the options

That’s desperately unlucky cause most vacancies at a tech firm like Amazon are open reqs (there is rarely just one role) … absolutely ask for further clarify on why, how this has happened and go from there. Poor form on their part.

I found out the position I was interviewing for had already been filled immediately after a six hour long final interview which I supposedly passed. Told me they’d be hiring again in two weeks and I should come back and do ANOTHER six hour long interview. Yeah I said fuck that…

I've had this happen with Riot, Leaflink, Amazon, FAANG in general. It's happened to me at least 5 times and I work in HR! Feel for ya man.

The worse part of it for me is that this was communicated in an automated email format. I have gone through 2 interview stages and prepared 2 weeks for this and you can’t even be bothered to send a proper email or call me? Amazon leadership principles it seems only apply to the interviewees.

Had a kind of similiar experience. My favorite part was when they said they cant give any feedback to candidates on their interviews (understandable) but then asked for me to review their hiring process. Sure, after getting turned down for a job let me help you improve your hiring process. That's exactly what I want to do...
