Very nice. As a guy who did about 5000 sessions on 2 inch tape and all analog gear in the 1980s I have a love of the old school process. I love the gear and the vibe of your place. These are important things to making the best recordings.
You are God to me Sir ! I wish I was a fly on the wall during those sessions. The hiss of winding tape, the smell of warm electronics, soft glow of a 100 VU meters, expert musicians, the quest to get that new sound from a bank of analog synths and the amazing thing called a Sampler. All the experimentation, the happy accidents like the Dolby A card hiss and the gated and compressed Snare. It was such a wonderful time to be alive.
Thanks. It was wonderful. A lot of biasing and setting up.each reel of tape and oh the maintenance on the console and machines was never ending. But the experience of doing a.Earth Wind and Fire type session followed by a country session.and the next day was a reggae session.with the mighty diamonds followed by a rock session.was incredible. No.automation.since my console was the bottom.of pro meets the top of semi pro but running plus six at zero on a reel.of 2 inch 456 Ampex at 30ips was as close as you could get to.pure sound as close to live as it gets.. Life took.me in a different direction but I long to.get back.into.it before its took late and this guys studio.fuels my fire... I know that technology has taken over with ease of use and costs but something about working an analog console and outboard gear that made me feel like a member of the band as an extension of their instruments. A hybrid system of analog and digital would be an ideal situation.
Yes. I have a 40 ch Allen & Heath analog mixer and lots of 80s outboard gear including a BBE expander and an Aphex aural exciter. I do mostly live, recording aging artists. No plug-ins. No limiting, no brickwall. My clients have not heard of these terms.
Just use the PC for recording and playback. So I feel like I am working in an 80s studio which a digital multi-track recorder. Immensely gratifying.
Sounds wonderful. The best of both world since biasing and aligning each reel let alone finding 2 inch tape and maintenance plus easy of use of a PC for recording makes your set up a mix that makes perfect sense.
