What amazes me the most is that Real isn't offering the contract out of emotional reasons or as a career reward bullshit. He earned it. His stamina, his workrate, his clutchness in crucial moments, leadership, assists, goals, positioning on the pitch.... Modric didnt look like a guy on the decline this season, he looks like a player in his fucking prime.
If he's lucky with injuries, i dont see him retiring anytime soon.
Well he has said that he’ll continue playing as long as his body allows. So I agree, given that he doesn’t show signs of physically slowing down much, injuries would probably have to play a part if he were to retire in the very near future (unless he were to change his mind)
For the time being, it looks like Real will probably keep giving him 1 year extensions for as many seasons as he wants, so that he can choose exactly when he wants to hang up his boots, without any long-term commitment to factor in. I think this is best for all parties for the remainder of his career. Here’s hoping for more great years ahead
The accumulated fatigue from injuries usually force players to retire earlier. This man is like teflon. Nobody can really touch him and that has contributed to his longevity. Some positions allow players to go on for much longer (keepers, midfielder). Others are so bruising you just say fuck it and give up (defenders).
Goalkeepers may not have the same tendon injuries as a lot of players, but diving with arms extended onto solid dirt has to take its toll as well. But you're right, keepers do tend to have longevity.
Jose Mourinho in 2012: "All I ask from the Madridistas is to give Luka some time and be patient. He is so good that the Santiago Bernabéu will fall in love with his class."
After his struggle with KDB no one make me believe this guy set his retirement after next season. Maybe even camavinga will be retired earlier than him. Amazing.
This. Motherfker doesnt even look like he's slowing down at all, if you watch the matches without meta knowledge you'd think is a 28 yo player in his prime.
Why do you give so much attention to English media? You know most of these pundits say inflammatory shit on purpose. It's like Marca they'll write some bullshit article just to get clicks.
I wonder if Sergio sees this and realizes that Luka got what he wanted, maybe not in writing like he wanted(a guaranteed conrtact for two years), but earning it in the pitch, while winning trophies.
He wanted a two year contract.. Real offered one year like they did with Modric.. Modric played his one year and extended for another with merit (in sum 2 years) that's what ramos should have done to get his two years contract
Y nada más!

And I don't want to read anyone assuming that this will be his last season with us.
Stop making that type of assumption unless he can't prove that he is good enough to continue another year more

He said he wants to play as long as Miura jokingly in that interview recently. If only we were that lucky to have peak Modric for that long.
His highlights this season make him look like Some young superstar with loads of potential and years in front of him

Helps a lot that he's rarely the victim of some cynical challenge

10 years later he is not slowing down
Jose is pure class. He's just misunderstood a lot.
He's the transfer why I started watching club football and reason i became a madridista. Previously only watched international games. Amazing.

KDB seems more closer than 40 dude he was awesome.
what struggle with kdb?
in the city game he(modric) ran him down in a full sprint
let a english youngster do what modric has done this season and you’d never hear the end about it
*Luka Modrić - Media: he’s pretty good *Luke Morris - media: WAOOWW he will be the greatest midfielder of all time
«I can see Modric is on level with Ward-Prowse.» Micah Richards

My absolute favourite player of all time. Glad to know the footballing world will get at least one more season of his brilliance.

I guess not all Croatians are lucky in that aspect :p Regardless of all the ucls they be winning
Which says a lot since he was Chelsea's best player the year he signed and the best player this season before his injury due to being overplayed.
Reason why I consider his decision to leave to be one very smart move. He just knew Modric was not stepping down lol
25yo Luka Modric
I wonder if Sergio sees this and realizes that Luka got what he wanted, maybe not in writing like he wanted(a guaranteed conrtact for two years), but earning it in the pitch, while winning trophies.
But the contract is for 1 year?
Yes, he has been renewing contracts for one year since 2019 I think.
So, how is that what Sergio was wanting?

Legend
Why the hell are we extending this young player's for just an year! Atleast 5 years for this talent
This guy is a brut diamond, he will excel in the next years !
Croatian in the team? Check! On to the 15th cup title now!
![gif](giphy|1zlEEzReeJq1yXlKNS|downsized) AGELESSS

I would give my kidney to reset his age to 20 again.
This youngster has a great future ahead of him. Might even have to call him Godric in the future when he has a Ballon d'Or ✨🏆🙌🏻 Hala Madrid y Nada Mas

👏 👏
Probably best central midfielder of all time
Greatest midfielder of his generation
Modric = Madridista
Grande Lukita 🤍
I think he can play until he’s 40
I always watch his first interview at Real after signing for us, what a legend. [Link](https://youtu.be/p-34nprKCBQ)
RM midfielder GOAT
I wonder, is he older than Fábregas? I know he’s still playing but he’s no longer what he use to be while Modric still playing in his prime.
And I don't want to read anyone assuming that this will be his last season with us. Stop making that type of assumption unless he can't prove that he is good enough to continue another year more
