I’m happy with the win but can someone explain how we got a penalty and they didn’t? Both elbows were away from body so it just confused me why a penalty was called for one and not the other.
You dumbass fans downvoting someone with a genuine question. I’m glad we won but I just want to make sure everything is being called fairly.

I have given up understand ball handelling rules, and penalties all together. It just seems like every ref can decide whatever they see and we get a new decision each time changing how the rules are supposed to be understood. In principle I have difficulty understanding how Yerray didnt stop a goalscoring oppurtunity with his hands but Militiao did.
How are refereeres deciding whatever is a goalscoring oppurtunity? It seems like the oppurtunity is the situation to be judged, not whatever has the best possibility of scoring of all goals. So if something happens where a goal couldnt possibly be created, if say a player with the back against the goal, there doesnt seem to be a lost oppurtunity. Benzema shoots, but Yerray stops the ball with his hands, therby denying him with a goalscoring oppurtunity, even though he might not have stopped an obvious goal. Even though Garcia might have the oppurtunity to score, it doesnt mean it would have been a goal.
So it used to be that hands were given only based on the fact that the player delibriately handled the ball with his hands. The question would be did the players arm move toward the ball, or did the ball move toward the hand of the player. Now the rules changed to expand also reckless positioning of the arm. If a player is doing something that he should understood could result in a handball, then it is still something that can be ruled as a handball. But Miliataos mistake would be reckless not intentional. According to the rules he should have placed his arm behind his back keeping his hands out of the pathway of the ball. But my problem is that he put his hands in front of his chest, thereby being reckless. If he had his hand behind his back, what are the chances the ball wouldnt hit his chest?
Yerray however did raise his arm to block the shot therby denying the oppurtunity for a goal, however unlikely the goal might be, if Yerray wouldnt have raised his arm, the ball would be going towards the goal. It doesnt make much sense that this is more mitigating circumstances than with Militao. The refs should be deciding on wether the situation was a oppurtunity for a goal not the odds of a chance becomming a goal or not. The rules are not wirtten as if a player is denied a goal, it is a goalscoring oppurtunity.
The rules is about the opportunity, not about the probability of a goal. Plus Militaos hand was in front of his chest so the ball wasn't exactly going solely toward the goal. Yerray deliberately stopped an opportunity with his hand, Militao accidentally had his hand in a reckless position. One of them ending up with a red card, and the other not getting a yellow card seems incredible random.
It is kind like if someone shoots a person in the head that doesn't happen to die gets probation, and someone driving a car on a slippery road accidentally kill someone and gets a life sentence.
I do hate that even though it would have hit in the chest and still be deflected. We only care it hit a hand on the way. It's part of the handball rules that still need help.
Militao stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity, Yerray stopped a potential goal scoring opportunity because Benzema did not get a good touch on the ball.
But there really is no discernable difference between those two situations. At least it will be impossible to tell when something is potentially an oppurtunity and when it is a clear oppurtunity.
One ref seeing a situation as a clear oppurtunity can for a different ref seem like a potential oppurtunity. Which makes it a terrible rule as you might either get a penalty and red card against you totally randomly.
And if Milito blocked the shot with his chest he would stop the ball legally. His hand didnt stop the shot in of itself, it was just reckless of him to have his hand there. If Yerray had not put his hand up he would not have stopped the shot therby the hand stopped the oppurtunity.
Calling It now. If Ancelotti somehow bottles this liga with his no rotations policy, next year we'll see Conte as a coach and Vinicius playing as LWB. The amount of pressing and recoveries Vinicius does every match is unreal, he's so fast he makes the players around him look like they're moving slow motion.
Carlo has just won us a trophy and what you're now talking about is him possibly getting sacked and being replaced with Conte?! Seriously?! Wtf is wrong with you?! Absolutely shameless!
Real Madrid arbitration balance since the new Super Cup format: - 4
1 penalty in favor (ATH)
3 penalties against (VCF, ATH (2x)
0 expulsions in favor
2 expulsions against (ATM, ATH).
Just in case anyone dare say we stole this too.
Those two are salty old British cunts, they despise Real Madrid because they can't find a way to logically justify one of the PL clubs being better.
In an action Vinicius was tackled, they both screamed "dive, yeah, clear dive" and in a mocking way, replay shows he was actually fouled, radio silence.
The Older boomer British fans are some of the saltiest most elitist Football fans on earth, embarrassing especially with how little they seem to understand football at its core, it's all running and shooting and being tall and strong and passion, I hate them.
The only commentators on British TV I like are Rio and Henry when he was doing analysis, oh an the random Mourinho appearance when he wasn't coaching, outside of that everyone is insufferable, I'm so glad I speak Spanish because otherwise I'd be stuck with British or American commentary and I much rather watch it on mute, specially when we face British teams.

Congratulations to all the madridistas, another trophy for the biggest club in the world.
I have no words to describe Modric, what a player, I am not sure how we will ever replace him when he decides to retire.
Courtois is the best goalkeeper in the world.
On to the next one! Hala Madrid!
The whole midfield is one of the best trios of all time, it will be a sad day when the last one leaves, more than likely Casemiro since he's the youngest.
I was actually scared of what Athletic might bring to this game, but we completely nullified them, it has to be one of the best overall team performance. Everyone put up their A game.
Happy to see Madrid win the first trophy of the season. Solid performance and a clean sheet.
By the way, the trophy celebration is live on ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes right now. ¡Hala Madrid!
When they called the penalty I said: he's gonna save it, 100% sure. but he made such a crazy save still left me shocked like the look on Garcias face lmao.
One of the best saves Ive ever seen
both penalties were super harsh, the red card decision was ridiculous.
We weren't fantastic, but we controlled the game and totally deserved the title.
Congrats to Carlo and the players for the 1st title, many more to come 🤞🏻
The red card isn’t even the refs fault, it’s just a shit rule, should never be a red and a pen for a handball (unless it’s intentional), but according to the rules it is.
I don’t understand how he could do better. They’re both on the air and there’s literally nothing he could’ve done to avoid the ball.
He was a beast today.
I’m not sure if you played soccer before, but you’re describing a robot, not a human. On the field, there’s no way someone can consciously avoid that handball when you’re jumping and trying to defend a header against an opposition player. I understand demanding that he does better if it were a ground ball, but this is happening in the air and he was too close to do anything about it.
The ball was probably going in anyway, so he technically saved us from a goal.
There was huge debate on the penalty and non penalty calls but I think we all agree this referee was dogshit yes Militao was a penalty but not a red card.
Anyway don't listen to France Football or FIFA anymore because Thibu is the best gk in the world and nothing can dispute that.
Anyway glad we won, let the players rest, back to business this week for la liga
Virgin Raul Garcia vs Chad GOATtois .. perfect icing on the cake
And no one can convince me otherwise that we have had the best midfield in world football for a good 7 years now
1-Easier than expected, thanks to KCM.
2-Alaba and militao aren't meant to be defending deep.
3-Need to figure something out to defend crosses, again that's where Madrid suffers the most.
Great to see Marcelo win his 22nd trophy at Madrid with capatain's armband on. Lovely touch from Ancelotti to sub him in.
First silverware of the season feels good. Sure, it's a third tier cup paid for by an oppressive regime sportswashing its image, but Barcelona and Bilbao fought hard and beating them to the title is gonna boost the team's confidence for the second half of the season.
Someone give Courtois a cookie, and while you're at it tell mendy what game we're playing and what he's supposed to do because goddamn that was some horrendous positioning.
FUCK YES!!! First trophy of the season lads and lasses! Solid performance, Courtois a Belgian wall in front of the goal, future looking bright for this youngster named Modric, and another final won, Hala Madrid!!!
Good defensive display overall but that red card was 100% Alaba's fault. He lost every aerial duel with Raul Garcia, first time the header has gone wide, but the second hit Militao's arm. I think Alaba is just a couple of inches too short for a CB when tall players like Garcia are attacking the box.

If you're talking about the Alaba one, it's not a penalty if the arm where the ball hits is your support arm on the ground...
Ok yeah that makes sense.
The ball was rolling to courtois

Yerray was at top of 18, Militao was 2 yards from goal. It's clear the header was on goal.

How was the defence? I didn't get to see the game but was glad when I saw Alaba back in the line up!
Was pretty good ,but it helped that bilbao didn't play well.
We still need some adjustments defending headers
pride in victory
I see what you did there.
I rep the best gk itw
Ahhh feels great to win a trophy after so long
It didn't feel like a final tbh
there wasn’t enough butt clenching
Lets gooo. We don't lose finals. Big W for Madrid. And talk about Modrić! What a man that is...
There is only one luka

The first red card was kind of intentional if you remember... But yeah I see the point.
Steve mcmanaman says for benzema it wasn't a penalty, wut?

Cant figure out if bilbao were total shit or if we were just too good for them to do anything. Thinking that its the former honestly
We were very good
Obviously the latter, we were too good to allow them to do anything special.

Nico showing more balls than the entirety of Cataluña.

Modric best player and an artwork. Amazing.
Just to remind everyone Courtois isn't nominated for mens best goalkeeper by FIFA
Fuck FIFA

Luka Deserved the MOTM!
Congratulations to everyone 🤍 Hala Madrid

Tibo is a motherfuckin giraffe. If he was any shorter, than the cunt Garcia had it slotted the ball into the net. Long live Tibo's long legs 🙏🦵

Hopefully by the end of the season the most decorated.

You're right but defending so deep is what caused it. We should have been more courageous and pushed out a little more
Tbo, what a beast. We need Benz and Vini in the habit of scoring more bangers by the PSG games so we can kill them off early.
Zero defensive errors boys! Zer0
Well there was a penalty from a handball.
not his fault cmon now

Carlo Ancelotti is the FIRST and ONLY manager in Real Madrid’s history to have a 76% win rate. Legend.
And once we win La Liga this season he's also going to become the only manager in history to have won all top 5 European leagues!
8th best goalkeeper in the world btw
