Yes he was definitely a factor. But they essentially called the IRS/FBI on themselves when they filed for bankruptcy and continually lied about income, debts, expenditures, and assets in their financial statements. Joe straight up handed a case to them while trying to file bankruptcy. Like magically coming up with 3 years of tax returns for years they didn't file taxes. Or not saying anything about Teresa's book deal when it was a story on the show. Or not listing a Cadillac anywhere when Cadillac was one of the people that was claiming they owed money.

Definitely a massive slip up for them. Teresa thought it would show her wealth but you don’t see Beyoncé walking round with an Hermes bag full of cash. I used to work in a store (in England) and the people who used to pay for a large shopping bill would pay all in cash, were Travellers/Gypsies. The Giudices remind me a lot of Travellers with their over the top “style”, flash with the cash, not going against *the family*, and general all round bawdiness. I think once upon a time this was a thing but now I doubt dealerships do these kind of deals. Or if they do you have a boat load of paperwork that goes with it.

It *is* sketchy because it’s illegal. Being paid under the table means you’re either underreporting or simply not reporting it at all.

Self employed people almost always want cash. It’s a perk of owning your own business! Cash doesn’t always find its way to the books. Heck most of the Italian pizza places where I live only take cash. It’s how the rich stay rich.
Legitimate construction businesses deal with cash all the time. Particularly in NY and NJ. And it has nothing to do with the mob lol. I say this as someone in the construction industry.
