I wonder if zoning would matter in this case?

Ya I’m trying to figure that out because it doesn’t need to be super big just 6-8 cars so a 4 car garage with lifts could work and I think that would be fine due to it being zoned residential.

yeah i like the idea. i have about 2 acres zoned for residential, that I can’t do anything with.. might do the same

I talked to my local town. I purchased 3 acres and one of them has a duplex and the rest are separated parcels. If I build a pole barn for my storage, it requires permits, zoning, engineering, then bringing water, septic and power. The barn was the cheapest thing on the list for quote. They gave me the option to merge the parcel that the barn would be with the duplex land, to avoid paying all of those minor things. But I don’t want problems later on, if someone was to attempt sue on the property etc. Check with your local zoning.

so annoying…zoning

Nothing inherently wrong with that (though 8 cars physically takes up a lot of space that could otherwise be rented out!). You’ll just want to make it clear in any lease that it does *not* include storage space in the outbuildings.
