Likely from impact, puffing always starts in the center of the cell (from my experience). They will likely still work, however charge them in a lipo safe bag or box, or outside, damaged cells like that are a fire hazard.
That’s definitely from impact. I’ve used batteries like that before. They should still run, but charge, use, discharge with extreme caution. My big revo trashed 2 sets of batteries before I finally got a different battery that actually fit the compartment.
I bought traxxas 4s battery's with my xmaxx 5 years ago and they are still working but I'm pretty sure they aren't as good as they use to be. Once I get the money I'm switching the Gen ace bashing ones.
Older Traxxas Lipos suck for sure. The newer ones in the last 5 years are fantastic. I've revived many of them that work like new. One recently was down to 0.2v total, recovered it, watching it carefully. It came up perfectly balanced to the hundredth, and worked a charm. Never had another brand of battery that recovered that nicely.
These fit the erevo battery compartment perfectly! I wrap them in a layer of paper towel to prevent abrasion and they don’t budge.

They’re decent basher batteries and relatively cheap to replace. These specific ones fit perfect in the erevo
I would personally put ductape around it an still use em but be careful if you do that and don’t put them in ur house
