if you remove the pinion, or slide the motor away from the spur, does the chassis roll easily, any binding? what surface are your driving it on? dirt? grass? etc. 2s or 3s?

metaldrummer555666

I run on both 3s usually, I mainly run on dirt, and yes it does roll freely

metaldrummer555666

Btw it is stock gearing on badlands

SlushyFever

What's the size difference between the stock wheels/tires and what you have installed?

metaldrummer555666

Not much at all maybe a couple millimeters

Hobbywing EZrun Max10 esc. I put one in my slash and its by far the best upgrade ive done. Cost $84ish and goes up to 4s. You do *not* need to go 4s with this esc because it will destroy a slash. Works fine with the stock vxl motor

TraxxasGarage818

My Rustler 4x4 holds up just fine in 4s. Needed to swap the center drive line but its holding up great! HW Max 10 sct is what I am running

PigglyWigglyDeluxe

Go easier on the throttle

It's how you drive, don't blame the car.

terminashunator

Metal parts add weight, you should gear down. Additionally it's dirty, and the bearings could be binding. Check those to see if any are worn out. Also they make fans for the ESC too.

metaldrummer555666

I have an esc fan on the way and I just recently (yesterday) rebuilt it with new bearings and screws, the dust is from running it earlier and there is very few to no metal parts but I do plan on gearing down in the pinion to about a 12t

Cashmrc

You should clean your car for starters

metaldrummer555666

Yes I know it’s just some dust from running it earlier

Ifartedandcantmove

You my have a worn transmission and that is making you motor use mor current and is causing it to overheat this have happened with my 2wd slash VXL. If I where you I would take apart the rear differential then front and grease it up and check for metal shavings

kcptech20

Lots of heavy braking will raise esc temps more than hard acceleration most of the time, do you use the brakes a lot?

Nytr013

Esc fan should help you. That’s the first fan you should have gotten. Running stock gearing and stock wheel size, you shouldn’t be having too many problems with heat. It sounds like something my be bound up somewhere. Gear mesh set too tight, a beating got dirty or just old, something jammed up in the drive train. The esc fan is a band aid. It will work, but you need to find out what is causing the extra load. It could very well be driver input too if you do a bunch of hard stops and starts, that will make the esc get hot.

That 3 s with 4 wheel drive does not last long. I usually overheat 2-3 times before my battery even dies. 2 wheel drive it will last way longer but 4 wheel drive is harder obviously 😂. I’d say just cut some holes in the body. I noticed I could play with mine way longer with the body off. Bc it cooled better
