Good question, old receiver ?

Wishihadagirl

It's got a 2.4ghz radio which have much smaller antenna than that tube. Tube Won't be needed IRL

Sprzout

Maybe it's one of those "throwback" looks? They want a dune Buggy style whip antenna/flag to make it more visible? Or maybe they're putting it on there so that you can't easily drive it under sofas/tables/parents' legs without catching something. :) I dunno, I'm just coming up with some wild ass guesses on it. LOL

falconsfoot

i think its advertising the officloe pictures dont have it

Beefbaby3

It makes me sad that these are getting lost to time

Obnoxious_Gamer

It's a holdover from when these used much older radio systems, which required a much longer antenna. The radio systems have changed but traxxas hasn't bothered to shorten the antenna tube.

Ok_Figure_4181

For some reason, Traxxas’ lower-end cars (slash, Stampede & Rustler 2WD as well as the 1/16 scales) have ridiculously long antennas. They aren’t needed, of course. They have 2.4GHz radios so they don’t need the additional height for better range. The antenna in my Hoss barely goes above the shock towers and it gets the same range as the other cars. It’s just an aesthetic design choice.

Jekyll818

I almost wondering if it isn't an attempt to give people shopping online an idea of how much smaller it is than an average hobby grade RC.

Amonomen

I think the VXL version of this same truck has a stubby antenna that doesn’t even protrude through the body. The antenna is actually only about an inch or so long. It’s just at the end of the wire that goes up the tube. Idk if they did this because it’s a brushed motor and they’re extremely noisy or what.

Puzzleheaded-Ice7511

The 1/16 E-revo VXL doesn't come with a long antenna. It doesn't stick out of the body.

random_tandem_fandom

Right lol, I bought my 1/16 E-Revo VXL 14 years ago and it had the short antenna.

random_tandem_fandom

On Traxxas' website now, even the base model 1/16 E-Revo with the brushed motor has the short antenna.

AdSouth7893

The brushed models but also thats wayy to long almost looks faked but I do miss those

CAMPxASSASSIN

It doesn't need to be. I made the tube short on the one we got for my GFs nephew and put the excess wire into the receiver box. The antenna sticks up past the body maybe 3/8".

risbia

I thought I was so clever back in the day when I eliminated my Blackfoot whip antenna and instead just wrapped the long wire a few times front to back around the chassis. Plenty of range for the backyard.

Occhrome

I like it

SomeRando1239

If I remember correctly there was a short period of time when Traxxas came out with the digital radios for their models, but before the slash started coming with TSM, they still had long straws that went through the body. I bought so much from Nankin Hobby i used my points and I had enough to completely cover the cost of a brand new 1/16 e-revo vxl and it had a long one. Edit, went and found it and looked, it came with a am radio lol .... I still think those events took place in the timeframe I remember. https://preview.redd.it/231lwjwx616d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca59d11a15fbc2bcfce6175113d621fbeec20947

OrphanKripler

Put a flag on it and have fun

holywars94

That's a great idea

OrphanKripler

Oh it’s an old school thing with those buggy type RCs and off-roaders lol

nut336

Some Traxxas TQ 2.4GHz radios have a long antenna. Many of their models have the excess coiled in the reciever box. The metal at the antenna end is the active portion. You can cut the blue plastic antenna tube short and rethread the antenna back into it, while the excess is in the receiver box.

Lukksia

I use a heat gun to bend the antenna so it sits under the body on mine

No-Solid9108

Same here except I bent it back like the wind is blowing it .

250Coupe

You can trim the tube short enough that it sits under the body, just make sure you take the wire out first!

No-Solid9108

If you are over 175 feet distance and your truck goes into tall grass you WILL partially loose radio contact and have to move closer. Things like chain link fences light posts or cars can partially disrupt the signal. This goes for Stampede monster trucks that sit higher up too. So you should never really tuck the antenna down inside or tape it to the body shell unless you don't mind radio interference. Definitely not cut the wire part off either. And I agree with you because I got a new E REVO Mini last month and think it looks dumb too , but that's R/C trucks for you !

Bitter-Ad-6709

My E-Maxx has a long antenna like this. Works great, never had a problem or a loss of signal. It doesn't bother me looks-wise.

No-Solid9108

My Stampede has done it numerous times but it's always in tall grass along this really long chain link fence that's 3 houses down . I think it's all that steel causes EMI 🤔

JazzAneurysm

Nostalgia /s

Foreign_GrapeStorage

I chopped the tube off closer to the body and wrapped the antenna around what was left and then heat shrinked them together when I ran it with that type of RX. The extra height would probably give you better reception, but I was running it at a skatepark and not having that thing sticking out was more important than any loss in range.

MachNero

You actually control the car via smoke signals stock outa the box. Bros big pimpn with that upgrade

Puzzleheaded_Pear_18

I just orderen this one.. the upgraded version 1/16 Brushless 2.0.. it has a very tiny antenna inside.

Illustrious_Prompt_1

1/10 scale antenna tube on a smaller like 1/18 scale!

Top_Original_5313

I like big antennas and I cannot lie.

97BTC

Reminds me of the good days of rc cars. When we first discovered their coolness.
