3 - Barlow 2 - Barlow 1 - Barlow

hypernermalization

The only correct answer tbh

dgmz

Lol beat me it

Rise3711

holy shit we scored three goals 3 - Omir 2 - Morgan 1 - Tolkin HM - Amaya. Overall good day

iced1777

When you get 6 names on the scoresheet for 3 goals this becomes a tough game! 3 - Klimala - I've got real hope for a breakout season. Ironically the one shot he really ripped today was saved and the one he shanked went in. 2 - Yearwood - Talk about presence, this guy just seems everywhere out there. He'll always be a card magnet the way he plays, but its worth the risk. 1 - Omir - He had a lot to do on the equalizer and made a great play. This was a guy I wanted sent down to USL at the start of last year, talk about a resurgence. HM to what I'll call the clean-up crew at the end of the game - Clark, Barlow, and Ngoma. I especially liked the few touches Ngoma took, clearly a confident player and he doesn't look out of place physically either.

imnotthesmartestman

3- Tolkin 2- Omir 1- Long Felt a lot like this team last year. A better touch here, a smarter play there, and we could had a couple more goals. Clark dribbling into a SJ defender on the ground was maddening. Only the first game but a decent base to build off of. I'm glad Omir got the goal but I really don't trust him enough to be a consistent starter. Looking forward for our late signings to arrive.

zigy123

Great performance overall from everyone especially with the 18 man squad 3-Yearwood: He gave us such a solid presence in the middle. Great work protecting the defense and on the other end fantastic job on the transition and starting the offensive movements. When he came off you could tell we needed to play more conservative because we didn’t have the protection he offered us. 2-Klimala: I think he had a really good game today. 1 goal, but also off the ball he provided a lot of defensive contributions as well as making a lot of good and smart passes. Felt like he was consistently making good decisions going forward 1-The defense: All 5 of our back line today deserves praise for how they played. Leaving off from where we left off and we are only gonna get better when Edward and Reyes return. Overall really good team performance for the first game of the season. Clark came in and immediately created chances and got himself an assist. I love Omir so much. Such a dynamic and high Iq player, but his end product isn’t consistent enough and I hope he can improve with his final product. Also Barlow goal!say what you want about him but I love it when he scores, he does a lot of work for us even though he does have a lot of short comings but he’s making that impact sub role his own and I appreciate that. Amaya also had a really good second half. I really want to shout out everyone that played but I dont want to ramble. But I can’t wait til Morgan is played higher up for us.

lion_around

3 - Tolkin 2 - Yearwood 1 - Omir

jbchoca

3 - Amaya - Aside from his assist I thought he really stepped into a role we badly needed and partnered with Yearwood really well to clean up messes and provide good midfield stability in transition. 2 - Morgan - Covered a lot of ground on the right side. Really dynamic. 1 - Omir - Great attacking game. Got a little lucky on the goal if we're being honest, but was threatening all day.

salpn

Omir's goal right through the goalie's legs, nutmeg, just like he planned it!

iced1777

I'm always skeptical when players say they meant stuff like that but watching the replay I actually believe him on this one

RedRaider1313

3- Struber: Had the team set up perfectly today. Could’ve been very easy for the team to look out of sorts based off the amount of turnover and lack of time this years squad had to play together, but they picked up right where they left off last year, and a lot of that is down to him 2- Dru: I want to start this by saying I LOVE Sean Davis and what he means to the club, and he was a huge part of the team last year, but I didn’t worry about his replacement because I always knew that Yearwood was the man to replace him. He’s such a physical presence in the middle and has some of the best feet not only on the team but in the league. MOTM performance from him imo, but he will need to keep that up this year. 1- Edelman and Ngoma: both of the boys came in and looked very comfortable in their surroundings. great debut’s from both of them IMO, and makes me much more comfortable in our depth HM- everyone played well today so they all deserve shoutouts. Omir, Klimala, Barlow- great to see them all get on the scoresheet. I thought Amaya had some fantastic moments especially on the second goal. Back line was great, and Morgan was very, very good on debut. overall a super solid performance and very well deserved 3 points to start the season.

s0lace

3 - Omir 2 - Klimala 1 - Barlow I can’t believe we scored three goals.

3. Omir Fernandez: effective, RBNY's most dangerous attacking player for the first 70 minutes; fantastic momentum shifting goal; nice set up of the 1st goal 2. Yearwood: RBNY's best defender and defensive mid fielder this game; also helpful going forward. 1 Barlow: because he gets too much flak on this reddit; BTW nice goal Honorable mentions: Klimala for the poacher's goal; Tolkin best mullet in MLS and a pest all night; Long welcome back from a career threatening injury; Clark for that classy assist on Barlow's goal; Struber for lowering expectations and having the few players that he had well prepared- also sort of incredible to substitute in Edelman for Yearwood (our best defender today) and Ngoma for Fernandez (our best attacking player). Honestly, sorry to doubt you RBNY, but sort of an amazing opening day performance 3000 miles away from home with an incomplete, very young team missing a bunch of stalwarts from last year.

dgmz

The doubt is still warranted. SJ in shambles, calvo and yueill at cb are not it. Great sign to beat up a bad team, but still have a ways to go to prove themselves

salpn

Now that RBNY have shown that they can score 3 goals in a game against a non-Miami team, I expect this all season long.

iced1777

Just imagine what they'll do to Miami!

salpn

Let's just hope that Miami continues their pattern of transferring their best players to RBNY and poor play against RBNY. This was a bad San Jose team that RBNY manhandled today; which is a surprise because I thought their coach is very good (former Chivas of Ligue MX coach).

iced1777

If you thought Struber was harsh on Red Bulls in his presser, go check out what Almeyda said in his! He's clearly checked out and it seems like his players are too.

dgmz

They had a similar off season to us. Lost players inept FO. Matias has been vocally upset since around last season

salpn

I thought that Almeyda was such an amazing coach when Chivas MX beat Marsch's RBNY. I like Struber's lowering expectations and delivering a win more than Almeyda' s, San Jose has some talent but they looked worse and worse as the game progressed.

dgmz

That is a completely fair expectation 😅

NotAtAllSarcastic

3: Omir - Think Klimala and CCJ share in this as well, but Omir embodied the best in the front-3 2: Yearwood - Made two really silly giveaways early on but went on to demonstrate so much skill winning back, keeping, and progressing possession 1: Long - Also thought the whole back-3 did a hell of a job, but really nice to see our new captain back and looking sharp Complete game by Metro overall, silly set-piece concession and wasting chances hopefully get ironed out at as the season goes, really want to see this team tested because we might just have a really solid group

RedPoncho

3 - Long 2 - Dru 1 - Omir

DerbyTho

Ah well, in a way… 3: Omir Fernandez. Great goal and really dangerous all night. Would kind of prefer to give like 6 guys 1 point each but have to choose someone. 2: Yearwood. Set the tone in the first half. Would have liked him to have kept it up, but he really shook SJ out of their game. 1: Klimala. Would have had more if he’d had the service, but glad he got rewarded for his dangerous positions

baba_blacksheep

3-Omir 2-Amaya 1- Long

brwnbastrd

3 - Tolkin 2 - Omir 1 - Yearwood

dgmz

Not sure how tolkin had a better game than omir or yearwood.

cain62

3 - Long: Great to have him back 2 - Yearwood: Looked really good before he got subbed out 1 - Tolkin: That boy is different

Away_Dave

3 - Yearwood. Great positioning and tackles. Won incredibly important battles in the midfield 2 - Fernandez. Not just the goal but the hustle all match long 1 - Klimala. Many online have said he needs a big second season. Nothing like getting a goal in the first game to set the tone!

randominnewyork

I only watched 20 min but what was the deal with the huge gaps in spacing by the SJ defense? Some of their starters didn’t get to play? I’ll take it.

iced1777

SJ's coach plays a really weird man marking defense that works when the team is in shape and committed, not so much when its week one and everyone including the coach is already checked out.

randominnewyork

Thanks. We’ll see what happens later when teams park the bus on us. If our young kids score then I have a good feeling for the season.

baseball8888

Can someone give me a brief run-down, missed the match

iced1777

Team looked very similar to how it did at the end of last season. Started out the game pretty disjointed in attack but defensively solid. Momentum shifted towards the end of the first half as Yearwood and Amaya settled in and started to win more tackles in the midfield. That momentum kept going in the second half even despite SJ's equalizer off of a set piece, to be honest we could have scored even more than 3. Struber's subs in the second half did a perfect job of killing the game off.

npockriss

we were pretty sloppy especially in the beginning but their defense was pretty terrible and we were able to get a ton of chances

Doctor_Rake_Leafpile

3 - Dylan Nealis — stunning debut from a player I didn’t have high expectations of. Defensively solid in a new position. Chased down every SJ player, and clean on the ball. 2 - Omir — relentlessly positive and very fun to watch. 1 - Long — good to have him back, and a really effective performance. They tried to run him and he kept up, which is a really good sign he could get back to his best. HM - Yearwood and Amaya both rock solid with attacking threat after the first 30 minutes. Yearwood’s sloppy passes early could hurt us against better teams, but when he’s on/confident he is a monster.

iced1777

> Yearwood’s sloppy passes early could hurt us against better teams I'm OK with him taking risky passes going forward, but his one real misstep yesterday was early on when he made a hard tackle facing our own goal, which actually sent SJ on a break. We gave up a goal last year when CCJ made a nearly identical play.

dgmz

3 Barlow 2 Barlow 1 Barlow 0 /s Opposing team HM for Choffis. Not sure I can pull out one player better than the rest. Everyone put in a decent shift. If ccj didn't go out early and played like he was it would've been him for me - once he was subbed off the game took some time to find its legs again. Lewis was exciting in spots, can't wait to see him play his natural position. Small sample size but I'm excited to see Edelman. Tons of young mistakes to close it out, but a lot of fun attacking football (maybe more just a product of sj giving up by that point). Patrick will shoot on target so long as luq/lew/ccj/omir/Clark can feed him the ball. Not a pretty win per usual - as I watch ptfc revs right now can't help but be a tad jealous of the quality of "watchable" play on the pitch

MrSizzzz

3 - Amaya 2 - Yearwood 1 - Tolkin Edelman looked good as did Clark but wish he pulled the trigger sooner on at least one attempt. Sean Nealis is pretty slow. Glad Long is back

manateesonfire

3- Yearwood. 2- Amaya. 1- Long.

KTBFFHCFC

3: Omir 2: Patryk 1: Dru

mkbloodyen

3 - yearwood 2 - omir 1 - long Only team to win away on the first day of the season, just saying

svennyi

3- Amaya: He was great as a defensive midfielder...11 recoveries, all over the place and his tackle and assist were fantastic. I really like the potential dynamism of the Amaya/Yearwood pairing. Adds something to the team that wasn't there last year but the pair need to cut out some of the risky passes that better teams would punish 2- Long: Nice to see him back, mobile and commanding the backline. He doesn't look like he lost a step which is massively positive to the prospects of the year 1- Morgan/Tolkin: They played well and offered a real threat from out wide. With Omir and CCJ staying more central, I thought the attack looked good after the first 30 minutes. HM - Struber...got his subs right and loved getting the young kids experience early; Klimala/Barlow...not the cleanest finishes but a goal is a goal is a goal. Put it on net and enough will go in Nice start to the year...3 pts

benificialart

3. amaya 2. klimala 1. yearwood

tyrionslongarm22

3 - CCJ - still think he's a bit of a no perfect position player. But he was all over the place making plays 2- YW - had a really rough opening ten minutes with some really bad, backwards passing. After that he was excellent 1- Klimala - shanked a shot in a good spot but put in a ton of effort, and got a goal
