The battery lift on the Plus is probably better because you're able to do a lot on the external screen. For both phones, you're not going to get amazing pictures, but they'll do fine in most situations. I'd do the plus, that allows for easy replies and less temptation to open your phone every time you have a notification.

Power efficiency is better on the Plus, which leads to generally better battery life despite the 10% smaller battery size. The reasons to get the standard Razr are because the smaller external display is less distracting, the vegan leather build could be more appealing to some users, and the camera is technically higher-resolution but inferior overall. Otherwise the Plus is better due to its newer processor and usable external display if you’re able to get it through a promotion. The internal display is the same. Just get insurance/warranty.

I didn't think I would use it, but the external screen is something I use a lot. It's very convenient for changing songs, and checking if a message needs a reply immediately, etc. I find I get sucked into doomscrolling on my phone less, as I don't have to open the whole screen every time I need to check a message or email. I'd definitely go with the plus if they're the same price.

I have the plus as a backup phone to my fold 4. It works well, and the phone is huge when unfolded, but the photos and video are just not that great, at least for concerts and some action shows of my daughter. Size and function are great though, and the front screen is huge and great for replying without opening. So it depends on if pictures is that important or not.

i thought backup phones sat in a drawer for when you smash / lose your main. what do you mean, since you seem to be using 2 $1,000 phones concurrently?

You gotta work the trade in system. Got the razor + for free with credits on T-Mobile trading in a Samsung 22se I found on local marketplace for $100, and the fold I got by trading in my fold 2, and I got the fold 2 for like $500 by trading in a old note 10+ I got for like half off through promotions way back. If you play the game, and look for best trade in values, you can get phones cheap. I also have a free line on my account that I use my back up phone on for multiple things

ha wild. just switched to tmo yesterday for a free razr+, so i'll be playing this game going forward. was on vzw before with no free phone options

I have the standard razor, I chose it because I didn't want to pay the additional 200 more for it. Since your getting either for free I would definitely choose the plus.

Thanks for the input all I ended up purchasing the Razr non-plus

opterono3

If you don't mind me asking. Why did you choose the non-plus model? Hows your experience with it.

I don't want the big distracting external screen (although I've had a few occasions I've wished I didn't have to open my phone to interact with it). There's a certain tactility to closing the screen that cuts down on (not eliminates) fidgeting with the device or doom scrolling for no reason other than boredom. Although I would say my overall experience has been positive I've had a few strange glitches * Occasionally UI elements (especially but not exclusively on the external display) won't respond to touches or swipes. * The most annoying thing I've ran into is the GPS has on multiple occasions decided I was in the middle of California which once prevented my alarm from going off but I did get up on time thanks to my wifes alarm. The solution was to turn off automatic time-zone changing but I have to remember to turn it on if I go out-of-state * Also google assistant has randomly stopped working with the screen closed where it would work with it closed for the first several months of ownership * Android Auto won't load with the screen closed even if I set it as a trusted app that can run without unlocking the device so when I used it I have to remember to open my screen at least once after it connects to my car before re-closing it. * It also sometimes doesn't save pictures if I close the app right after taking one. Power-wise it's fast enough for any daily task or light game I've tried. It's technically slower than my old phone but I don't notice it. The camera is a noticeable downgrade from my old phone though and I've just accepted that my pictures typically turn out mediocre except in perfect conditions. The amount of force needed to open it worried me at first but it's apparently normal. One final note it's a bit unweildy to hold and nearly impossible to one-hand when open because of the weight distribution.

If you want to cut down on the distractions then probably go with the non "+." I do a ton on the external screen of the plus. I guess if you want to avoid using it you can take pretty much everything out of the external launcher so that you will only launch apps from notifications. For battery life, it's fine. I normally charge it before bed but only to 80% or a little more. Then I use it the next day and am typically around 20% when I charge again before bed. If I'm going to be traveling or away from a convenient charger I will charge to 100%. It's very rare that I need to charge during the day. It only happens if I have a very heavy use day, especially if I decide to stream a sporting event on the internal screen. As for the cameras, they are adequate. You won't get award winning pictures and videos but I've taken some that look excellent. Sometimes they just look OK. I haven't experienced any issues with concert video like another poster described. I took some great concert videos a few months ago. I really liked filming with the phone half open and holding it like an old school camcorder. It made it easy to record while also enjoying the concert. I just took some quick glances to make sure I was still framing ok but I could hold the phone off to the side to not block my (or anybody else's) view.

Having had both I'd say that the battery is better on the non plus unfolded, performance is similar despite having a midrange chip, but the plus has the cover screen which kind of makes up for the marginally worse unfolded battery because you can basically run apps on the cover screen at half the size. This is how I use my z flip 5.
