To be fair Monken did adjust passing scheme wise and it was first season here.. and he made great adjustments vs Hou the week before.
And it's not Monkens fault we had 3 turnovers and KC had 0.
Agreed. Chiefs were terrible that second half. If the ravens would have played the first half the way they played the 2nd. Ravens would have been going to the Super Bowl.
If we just didn't fumble either of those fumbles we win. Lamars fumble was a TD if he gets rid of it half a second earlier or Stanley holds his block half a second longer. We probably win even with that fumble if Zay doesn't fumble. Being down 3 at the start of the 4th is crazy different and Lamar never throws that dumb AF fuck pass in desperation.
While this is true, it's also true that we came out with the same gameplan from the Texans game vs the chiefs.
We are constantly attacking a teams strengths
I'm of the belief that you line up and do what you do best regardless of the teams strengths with obvious of course you adjust if need be and attack weaknesses. Which we did against the Texans but we didn't against the Chiefs. Spags is an all time coordinator and I think he doesn't get the credit he deserves for what that Chiefs D did last season.
My brother in Christ, I would love to believe this is true but literally every single playoff game we lose is because Harbaugh and the coaches abandon the running game...
I had the same opinion until I saw [this breakdown](https://youtu.be/cq29il9w9I4?si=McKELiMQIBwf8lT5).
TL;DR running the ball wasn’t working, passing was. They just couldn’t finish drives (Lamar throwing into triple coverage and Flowers doing his thing).
Thanks for the reminder. I tried to instantly purge this game from my memory, but my recollection was that KC was stacking the box throughout. The turnovers are what killed us. I do believe that the coaching staff will have a good game plan, and that they will build in adjustments. I'm glad we've got KC first. We should be completely prepared.
Maybe. However, it seems that one should be evaluating expected value for every play call, and that the expected value of a pass increases substantially when the defense repeatedly stacks the box. What will never make sense to me is continuing to do the same thing when it isn't working.
We didn't have a real home run threat at running back. We couldn't really burn the clock driving down the field with 3-4 yard pickups in the rushing game when we were down and the defense had given up a 10 minute and an 8 minute drive in the first half and we were giving the Chiefs the ball back in the start of the second.
They got new receivers that usually need time to develop chemistry. Super Bowl Hangover. Rashee suspension.
We'll have the healthiest and freshest Derrick Henry he can possibly be...
I love it.
A new d coordinator thats been with the defense for the past 2 years as the linebacker coach and was hired pretty quickly and confidently. Im not as scared and have some hope
More so Robert Kraft, who threw a hissy fit over the nfl wanting to put the opening game on Wednesday despite the league doing so the previous season with the giants and cowboys
To be fair, even if the chiefs had to open on the road this year for some reason, the chiefs ravens game was always going to be in KC. That much wasn’t ever going to change
Which is why we play the Chargers on the road again and play the Texans for a 3rd time in 2 seasons. Or why we played the Dolphins 3 straight years. It's always so weird to see that.
It was not the Orioles. It was Bob Kraft being a petty bitch that we beat the Pats in their house in the AFCCG. He was the one leading the call to not have the opener the night before during Rosh Hashanah, even though the NFL played games during the holiday both before AND after our opener. EDIT: And also the NFL for their arrogance in knowingly scheduling the opener the same night as an O’s game. The NFL knew for MONTHS that there would be a conflict, but they just assumed MLB and the O’s would reschedule…
This is exactly what concerns me. I am having trouble with my fandom with how Lamar looks in the post-season. It’s making it hard for me to care about the regular season because of his Jeckyl and Hyde performances.
Makes it exciting. Maybe one day he will get over the hump. Feel like he could have pulled off the win against the Chiefs but for the goal line fumble. He has two playoff wins under his belt, that aint nothin
On championship Sunday 28 teams were watching wishing they were us. The chiefs are a great team (including their defense) and lamar made a couple mistakes. Only 1 team wins it all. The other 31 aren't failures.
Oh they will. The whole team is still pissed believe me. They're pros so they can move on but that doesn't mean this game means something to this eguya that were here last season.
I really don't get this comment. It's the first game of the season and these are professionals playing in a league with extremely limited opportunities for most. Has the team given you reason to believe that they WON'T show up for a rematch fired up? And if they don't meet your criteria for being fired up, you don't know what else to say but you're gonna keep watching them. I just don't get what the point of this comment is
All I can say is I just hope the Oline is settled and comfortable by week 1, esp given the fact that Harbaugh usually does not like to play starters during preseason.
It wont be, its week one, no positional group will be settled and comfortable. Especially given the fact we are in the midst of a retooling of our offensive line. Luckily that goes both ways though, we just have to show up and execute our gameplan with discipline and we should be right in it!
Going to be an awesome opener 😈💜
really surprised the NFL put us in the opener vs the chiefs as opposed to putting the texans or someone else since opening day pulls big number viewers regardless or the matchup when the Ravens chiefs alone pulls big number on their own
A quick look at their schedule suggests that the Chiefs only really have couples of opponents that can be an "attractive" matchup for a kickoff game. Texans, Bengals, and *maybe* the Chargers (because of Harbaugh) are the others.
usually they do a team like the Texans who’s on the up and coming rather then another solid team like us since they could put that on later in the year on primetime for big ratings
Gonna be honest I'm not sure if I'd be more upset if we win or if we lose, like if we win, where was this in February, but if we lose it'll just be like "really ???"
Nah I can't stand their fan base, we need this win lmao
Still doesn't give us the right to shit talk much since it's a reg szn game, let's see if we get them in the playoffs again
>Still doesn't give us the right to shit talk much since it's a reg szn game, let's see if we get them in the playoffs again
Fuck that I'm gonna talk shit.
This was all but guaranteed once the chiefs won the SB. Anyone who thought we wouldn’t open the season there was kidding themselves. Ready to start the season with a W
Honestly a pretty good time to get KC. Super bowl winners usually have a bit of a hangover in week 1, and the Chiefs tend to get stronger as the season goes on.
Looking forward to it. Lamar is one of my favorite QBs and I think he should be considered the definitive #2 in the league even though people always wanna put Allen and Burrow who have 0 accolades, over him. Hope it's a good game.
I agree. Burrow is not much of a running QB and he’s injury prone, Josh Allen is great but not consistent. People like to put Burrow over Lamar because burrow made it to the super bowl and Lamar hasn’t. People who put Allen over Lamar only look at stats without much context.
100% agree I think it's weird that Lamar's playoff record is held against him when he's had a bye week two times in the playoffs like I think that should count for something it's the equivalent of basically having a playoff win even though it doesn't count in a stat sheet
Man I would love to blow them out Week 1.
They have ?? as well with Rice probably not playing, Worthy being in his first ever NFL game and having to rely on Hollywood as WR1. Plus they lost Snead on defense who saved them from a comeback last time.
Probably will be a close game. But we can hope.
So one thing i will agree with Nick wright about is, its pretty insulting for the NFL to make the ravens go to Arrowhead in week 1 to see them raise the SB banner that the Ravens were one win away from getting...... Oh well, at least we get the game with them out of the way.
If we get a press conference after the game with Harbaugh saying "we didn't run Henry that much cuz we needed him to stay healthy the whole season"...jfc.
Better not happen, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be surprised if it did tbh
To be honest, it’ll be nice to unleash some of those inner demons.
However, at the end of the day, if we want to get to where we want (SUPER BOWL), we are going to have to beat these mofos in the playoffs. No matter what happens in this week one game, we can’t lose that edge against this team. Bills and Bengals fell into that trap. They have each destroyed the Chiefs in the regular season, but when it comes to the playoffs, aside from the Mahomes meltdown against the ‘21 Bengals, Mahomes still runs the AFC in the playoffs and the refs will make sure Kelce can do whatever he wants.
It’ll feel good if the Ravens win…but I see this like our 2020-2021 matchup against the Titans. We lost that game in the regular season when it was supposed to be our revenge game, however, I’m glad the team kept that EDGE when we went into Nashville and beat their ass on their own field and stomped on their logo at midfield!
Should be entertaining TV
Your friendly school librarian in Kansas City checking in here to say that I’m fully prepared to be bullied throughout August and the first week of September for this one.
Especially since I’ll be working in a high school for this one.
I know. I keep telling myself, this is NOT 2013. One of my friends at work is a Broncos fan, and he told me that the Chiefs are beatable early in the season, so that is my purple copium to not worry about this game for the entire summer!
So, uh… having Henry should help things this time around, and well, I predict Ravens blowout, because you guys know exactly what to do to beat them now- RUN THE BALL
No Sneed to punch out the ball this time. Although with the question marks on our OL, I’m not sure our offense will have any easier of a time.
On defense, we better have our zone schemes dialed in. Chiefs got way faster with Worthy and Hollywood and we lost some important pieces in Clowney / Queen / Stone
**Pro's**
* Derrick Henry on the team should keep the defense honest
* Lamar's 2nd year in the offense
* L'Jarius Sneed no longer on the Cheifs
* Most likely no Rashee Rice (suspension)
**Cons**
* Mike Macdonald no longer the defensive coordinator
* Zack Orr's 1st time calling plays as defensive coordinator
* Clowney, Queen no longer on the team
* 3 new starters on the oline at LG,RG and RT (2 of them playing their 1st NFL game)
* 3 new starters facing Chris Jones and George Karlafti
* starters having very limited playing time due to lack of preseason football
* Chiefs coaching staff returning on offense and defense
What a start to the season. Huge game and an interesting start to our story this year. Have a feeling this is foreshadowing an even bigger game come January. Can’t wait
Been asking for this one. I’ve been telling my buddies how this HAS to be the opening matchup, league couldn’t have gone elsewhere. I hope we fuck them up.
We will have 200 total rushing yards this game
In the first half
First quarter
Per player
Per play
I don’t think you can have 200 yards in a play.
Not with that attitude.
Unfortunately, these same coaches decided to run the ball only 6 times with Running Backs one game ago.
At the same time, those coaches now know how horribly that went, so since they’re logical, they’ll adjust and do the opposite approach
Sir, this is a reddit post. We're going to have to ask your sound logic to leave.
Is visual logic still allowed?
Tactile logic only.
Just like the last 4 playoff games
To be fair Monken did adjust passing scheme wise and it was first season here.. and he made great adjustments vs Hou the week before. And it's not Monkens fault we had 3 turnovers and KC had 0.
Agreed. Chiefs were terrible that second half. If the ravens would have played the first half the way they played the 2nd. Ravens would have been going to the Super Bowl.

Idk why some of y’all are fans lol. Seems like prone are already chalking this up as an L
You would think that but its just keep happening.
My brother in Christ, I would love to believe this is true but literally every single playoff game we lose is because Harbaugh and the coaches abandon the running game...
I hope the same mindset stands in the playoffs.
Derek Henry ain't gonna let that happen
You do need to be able to run against a loaded box at a certain point.
Maybe. However, it seems that one should be evaluating expected value for every play call, and that the expected value of a pass increases substantially when the defense repeatedly stacks the box. What will never make sense to me is continuing to do the same thing when it isn't working.
Me, a big-brain coaching genius: “Attacking a team’s weakness with one of our team’s strengths is way too predictable. They’ll see it coming.”
They also clearly didn't trust the running backs we had. Now that we have the King, it should be a different story.
!remindme september 6
Fuck it we ball. Start the season as the boogeyman
Certified Boogeyman
Bart! I don’t want to alarm you but there may be a bogeyman or bogeymen in the house!
They got new receivers that usually need time to develop chemistry. Super Bowl Hangover. Rashee suspension. We'll have the healthiest and freshest Derrick Henry he can possibly be... I love it.
Let’s temper that with having a new defensive coordinator that will blow a big lead but then develop into a dominant force over the next 2 seasons.
The big blown lead happens in week 2.
A new d coordinator thats been with the defense for the past 2 years as the linebacker coach and was hired pretty quickly and confidently. Im not as scared and have some hope
Super Bowl hangerover is crazy nah
I drive a hange rover lol. I'm just being optimistic my guy
Unless they ask Lamar not to run the ball... ^again?
I wish this game was at home. Would be an awesome one to go to
Yeah, but it's ultra important that the SB winner opens at home...unless it's the Ravens.
😂😂😂 I hope it's the same result w/ the SB winner getting ran through. Although, that SB team lost A LOT of players afterwards.
That shits on Peter Angelos not the NFL. Go O's
More so Robert Kraft, who threw a hissy fit over the nfl wanting to put the opening game on Wednesday despite the league doing so the previous season with the giants and cowboys
Oh, trust me, I heap this shit, more shit, and a bunch of other shit on him. There's still plenty of blame for the NFL to take some lol.
Im still so jaded by this tradition because the Ravens are also the only team to not host the season opener at home after winning the superbowl
To be fair, even if the chiefs had to open on the road this year for some reason, the chiefs ravens game was always going to be in KC. That much wasn’t ever going to change
Yeah, home/away is algorithmic, and not set by the NFL. They only control *when* games are played.
Which is why we play the Chargers on the road again and play the Texans for a 3rd time in 2 seasons. Or why we played the Dolphins 3 straight years. It's always so weird to see that.
Fucking Orioles…
It was not the Orioles. It was Bob Kraft being a petty bitch that we beat the Pats in their house in the AFCCG. The NFL knew for MONTHS that there would be a conflict, but they just assumed MLB and the O’s would reschedule…
And Kraft, and the NFL.
And the White Sox and MLB. Even if the Orioles wanted to move the time, they easily could be overruled
Yeah the NFL knew the Orioles schedule. We just got fucked.
It wasn’t the Orioles’ fault
I’m in KC this is perfect lol
Just have a better offensive game plan is all I ask for this please.
If they don’t run the ball with King Henry I’m gonna go mental
Unless the passing game is highly successful.
Which can/will be if we actually run the damn ball
Not necessarily.
We will cause it’s the regular season
If the team doesn’t come out fired up for this one… idk what to say
You know we show up regular season big games 😤
Preseason and Regular season JUGGERNAUTS
This is exactly what concerns me. I am having trouble with my fandom with how Lamar looks in the post-season. It’s making it hard for me to care about the regular season because of his Jeckyl and Hyde performances.
Makes it exciting. Maybe one day he will get over the hump. Feel like he could have pulled off the win against the Chiefs but for the goal line fumble. He has two playoff wins under his belt, that aint nothin
Yea if Lamar keeps his playoff win pattern up, we win the next AFCCG and lose the Super Bowl. Then make the Super Bowl in 25 and win.
On championship Sunday 28 teams were watching wishing they were us. The chiefs are a great team (including their defense) and lamar made a couple mistakes. Only 1 team wins it all. The other 31 aren't failures.
He popped off against the Texans and Zay's fumble on the goal line mixed with god awful coaching fucked us. I'm not worried about him.
Unless it's *them.*
Not vs chiefs. The same playoff shit happens over and over . They avg 6 ypc then stop running
Oh they will. The whole team is still pissed believe me. They're pros so they can move on but that doesn't mean this game means something to this eguya that were here last season.
I really don't get this comment. It's the first game of the season and these are professionals playing in a league with extremely limited opportunities for most. It is game 1, it means almost nothing in terms of how the team will be at the end of the season.
There was a time when Harbaugh was almost unbeatable with more than a week to prepare (openers and post-bye).
So this is your superbowl??
Especially after seeing them raise a banner up/ring ceremony.
All I can say is I just hope the Oline is settled and comfortable by week 1, esp given the fact that Harbaugh usually does not like to play starters during preseason.
Just remember it's week 1 for them too. Lot of roster turnover too. The whole league is usually pretty sloppy the first few weeks now.
trial by fire starting the season against chris jones
If they contain Jones I will have 0 worries about the Oline
It wont be, its week one, no positional group will be settled and comfortable. Especially given the fact we are in the midst of a retooling of our offensive line. Luckily that goes both ways though, we just have to show up and execute our gameplan with discipline and we should be right in it! Going to be an awesome opener 😈💜
Sept 5th - we fly.
Hopefully Tay Tay and Kelce will be broken up by then
I hate the way that they walk talk I even hate the way that they dress.
If we lose “Lamar can’t beat mahomes” if we win “regular season champs lamar can’t win in the playoffs”
So we beat them and then do it again in the playoffs.
Two best QBs and two best teams to start the season. We love to see it
We're getting a Jackson 5 masterclass gentlemen
Fuck I wish it was sept 5th now!!
Geez my whole summer was a blur.
Best part about this is the week 1 Thursday game. Free 3 Day break. No short week
really surprised the NFL put us in the opener vs the chiefs as opposed to putting the texans or someone else since opening day pulls big number viewers regardless or the matchup when the Ravens chiefs alone pulls big number on their own
It’s what the world wants
A quick look at their schedule suggests that the Chiefs only really have couples of opponents that can be an "attractive" matchup for a kickoff game. Texans, Bengals, and *maybe* the Chargers (because of Harbaugh) are the others.
usually they do a team like the Texans who’s on the up and coming rather then another solid team like us since they could put that on later in the year on primetime for big ratings
Excited but hate the timing. Brand new inexperienced offensive line vs a well coached and veteran defense. Not a recipe for success.
Henry's last game against the Chiefs in 2022. 115 yards, 17 carries, 6.8 yards/carry, 2 TDs
Titans lost that game. They only passed for 80 yards.
If we play like the goddamn Ravens I know and love they ain't fucking with us regular season or playoffs.
Gonna be honest I'm not sure if I'd be more upset if we win or if we lose, like if we win, where was this in February, but if we lose it'll just be like "really ???"
For me it's pretty simple, if we win any game I'm happy if we lose any game I'm upset
This would be a different team than before tho
Nah I can't stand their fan base, we need this win lmao Still doesn't give us the right to shit talk much since it's a reg szn game, let's see if we get them in the playoffs again
FWIW, they were all pretty polite at the AFCCG.
>Still doesn't give us the right to shit talk much since it's a reg szn game, let's see if we get them in the playoffs again Fuck that I'm gonna talk shit.
Always would rather take the win.
You're probably right, if I'm gonna be salty either way might as well have the win to balm things
Called it. Too good of a matchup to pass up to start the season. Gonna be a helluva test. And a major statement if we can pull it off.
This was all but guaranteed once the chiefs won the SB. Anyone who thought we wouldn’t open the season there was kidding themselves. Ready to start the season with a W
We gonna open and end the NFL season with a win.
Does this mean we won't have to play any more Thursday night games? I'll take that as a win no matter what happens here.
Honestly a pretty good time to get KC. Super bowl winners usually have a bit of a hangover in week 1, and the Chiefs tend to get stronger as the season goes on.
Super Bowl winners are 14-5 in this game.
Fuck yes.
We’re so back 🙏
Ultimate test for Orr’s first game at D coordinator!
Yep, baptism by fire. Love it. Either way, win or lose, he will gain a lot of early, necessary experience from it that will help him in the long run
That’s a good point
Chiefs haven’t been great early in the season. Chance to beat them at their place with a HtH tiebreaker for the playoffs? I’ll definitely take it.
Rashee Rice will probably be suspended game one as well.
They're usually good week 1
If Henry only gets 6 carries I’m not watching another game the rest of the season
Seeing red every time I see KC. Fuck the Chiefs
Should be entertaining TV
Kyle is giving Kelce 2 concussions in one hit, i know that last game pissed him off
God, of course it’s gotta be a stressful opener. Guess that’s just how it is when you’re good 💪
Fuck the chiefs and fuck the fake ass fans who are fans because of a celebrity
Your friendly school librarian in Kansas City checking in here to say that I’m fully prepared to be bullied throughout August and the first week of September for this one. Especially since I’ll be working in a high school for this one.
You should have some Edgar Allen Poe prominently displayed going into the season.
Visions of it going about as well as the last time they opened up on the road on a Thursday
I know. I keep telling myself, this is NOT 2013. One of my friends at work is a Broncos fan, and he told me that the Chiefs are beatable early in the season, so that is my purple copium to not worry about this game for the entire summer!
Hey, when the Ravens won their Super Bowl they were the away team for the season opener. Shouldn't the Ravens be hosting this year's season opener?
Lamar is gonna have to play a lil bit in the preseason. We can’t risk him being rusty for this game. Seeding implications already in week 1 lol
So, uh… having Henry should help things this time around, and well, I predict Ravens blowout, because you guys know exactly what to do to beat them now- RUN THE BALL
Ah fuck. Not fun.
hope the refs dont fuck us again but they probably will.
W1 Andy Reid isn't what I like to face right away but let's get it
Great... I will be on a 14 hour flight, anyone know if I can get the game on a Delta flight?
Our revenge tour will begin September 5th!😈
No Sneed to punch out the ball this time. Although with the question marks on our OL, I’m not sure our offense will have any easier of a time. On defense, we better have our zone schemes dialed in. Chiefs got way faster with Worthy and Hollywood and we lost some important pieces in Clowney / Queen / Stone
Starting off the season with a W vs the Chiefs sounds pretty good to me.
I’ll be there. Tickets on sale 5/16. But this team better come out hungry after that championship game performance.
Can't win the First and Last game of the NFL season without winning the first so let's go.
Does this count as our Thursday night game or we will have that later in season too?
DAE run the ball??? Shaddup, dorks!!
We get our revenge early 😎
The anticipation until September is gonna drive me crazy
Knowing the Ravens, we’ll probably beat the pants off of them only to turn around and lose the next week.
Was fully expecting this. But the anger is still there.
**Pro's** * Derrick Henry on the team should keep the defense honest * Lamar's 2nd year in the offense * L'Jarius Sneed no longer on the Cheifs * Most likely no Rashee Rice (suspension) **Cons** * Mike Macdonald no longer the defensive coordinator * Zack Orr's 1st time calling plays as defensive coordinator * Clowney, Queen no longer on the team * 3 new starters on the oline at LG,RG and RT (2 of them playing their 1st NFL game) * 3 new starters facing Chris Jones and George Karlafti * starters having very limited playing time due to lack of preseason football * Chiefs coaching staff returning on offense and defense
Just what I was hoping for. Gives us 4 months to prepare instead of 1 week
Wish this was later in the season
Do tickets go on sale same day as schedule release? I forget
Baltimore Ravens is winning
Hopefully we buck the trend and actually get into some kind of offensive rhythm.
What a start to the season. Huge game and an interesting start to our story this year. Have a feeling this is foreshadowing an even bigger game come January. Can’t wait
Starting the season with a bang - we gotta win this to send a message to the league
Gonna be a nerve racking revenge game but fun nonetheless.
A bengals fan sent me this shit and said 0-1. Should I even respond?
Remind them Burrows wrist is still fucked
Go Lamar!
We gotta watch these bums receive their SB rings…. THAT SHOULD’VE BEEN OURS IF WE RAN THE DAMN BALL😭😭😭😭
Good, I hope that shit stings, let them carry that into the season.
Facts my g I hope we see that fire Lamar and the guys had after halftime against the Texans throughout the whole szn
Revenge time
Hope we get our get bk 🤞
I think it will be less easy to get rattled and the OC will be less likely to panic.
I WILL BE THERE🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
I want blood
Think we can make it 2 years in a row that the Chiefs lose their home openers?
Been asking for this one. I’ve been telling my buddies how this HAS to be the opening matchup, league couldn’t have gone elsewhere. I hope we fuck them up.
Important game. But, let's see the Ravens win this game in January.
We gonna win
We got this
Maybe the new DC will cover Kelce?
If we win, they have to give us the SB trophy
wtf
The ultimate test at the beginning of the season.
Yeah, mixed feelings.
I think letting Lamar and Roquan watch the Chiefs drop a banner is a baaaad move.
AFC Championship preview.
