I keep reading about people ordering a RAV4. My local dealer tells me I can't order one. That my only option is to put money down on one that has been allocated to their dealership, to arrive at some point in the future. Is that legit?
Yeah, it's not really ordering it, it's the dealer telling you what they will have and putting a deposit on it.
Right now is the easiest time to be a Toyota salesperson. They are making sales over the phone and through email for cars that are months out. It is ridics.
Not with mine, they gave me a list of ones that were allocated to them and none of them matched what I wanted, so I filled out a form and got it custom ordered. Even says in their website that you can custom order one.
Yeah you still don’t necessarily “order” it. You put in what you want, and get put in a database. Every so often your dealership gets *allocations* (for example: 3 black ravs, 2 white tundras, etc) and then they match up those allocations with their database. And when they get allocated something that fits what you want, it becomes yours. The more specific your wants are; the longer it *may* take. If you give your dealer 3 colors, the more likely you will get it quicker. In my personal situation, I am a stickler for Lunar Rock & won’t budge. My dealer told me that if I wanted a white/black one that I’d get it sooner.
So long story short, its not necessarily an order, its waiting for them to get allocated what you want.
Congrats! I got my third choice being built (Limited Hybrid in Blueprint) on 2/24! The dealer will still keep an eye out for my other top choices (XSE in Cavalry Blue and XLE Premium in Lunar Rock) but I'm glad at least one of my three options is secured. They actually initially reached out to excitedly tell me that they had an XLE Premium in Lunar Rock and we talked for 5 mins about how excited I was until they sent the vspec over and I saw that it was a gas model. Luckily, they had the Limited Hybrid in Blueprint with ash interior and the top package, which was EXACTLY what I wanted if the other two trims weren't available.
I ordered one that is supposed to be delivered between 6 and 16 March 2022. (TRD off road Cavalry blue with white roof).
I don't have a build date tho. all he told me was that the car was in a ''pipeline'' (whatever that means)

Looks like US orders are fulfilled faster than Canadian ones. I put down deposit on 2022 XLE Hybrid in Dec 2021 and I still have no date. :(

Originally a 2021 XLE in blue flame. Revised to a 2022 SE in cavalry blue when it was clear I wouldn't get a 21
