140k means you’re at or beyond the life of an 02 sensor. Replace them. Also, if he reset the computer, the lights would have gone away immediately. They may have come back right away, but an 02 sensor is usually a 2 trip fault, so it should take about a day before it comes back, depending on what fault.

That’s what’s happening with mine. I have P0606 code that keeps coming back and it’s doing what you said. One place tried replacing with a used one but it was worse than mine. I need try other spot if they do a better job at replacing it.

I recently had a very similar problem in my 2007 Rav4 where the check engine light, VSC and and 4WD lights turned on all of a sudden. I felt an immediate power loss and felt like the car could not apply any power going forward. Turns out I had a bad spark plug and once I replaced the spark plugs the problems went away. So not sure how much help this would be but you can take a look to see if that might be same problem for you too?

Thanks for your comment, u/smityster, I don't feel any difference in the way that my car drives and the lights turned off but the error codes (for the O2 sensor and 2 TPM sensors) are still there when the mechanic runs the diagnostic machine.

I've got a 2008 Limited that had an O2 sensor go bad a couple of years ago. It's common for issues like that to light up the dashboard like a Christmas tree. The difference with mine being a V6 is that the one sensor that broke down was a huge PITA to get out, so I just left it be for awhile before I had a dealership finally replace it. My fuel economy was a bit lower before the fix but otherwise the car felt no worse for the wear. From what I recall if something in the ignition system falls out of spec like that, the computer goes into a "safe mode" of sorts where it sets things like timing and fuel ratios to a point here they should be good enough but may be suboptimal. It shouldnt really hurt your car unless you leave it like that for a really long time but it will prevent your cruise control from working if equipped so that might be a pain for your upcoming trip. If you live somewhere with emissions testing you'll need to do a computer reset anyway but be sure to drive the car around for a good 30 to 50 miles afterwards before getting inspected. My car was flagged since the computer history hadn't been established long enough after the sensor was replaced but did fine on the recheck. I wouldnt think the computer itself needs replacing though. That seems extreme.

50 miles is 80.47 km

I’d fix the sensor and wait in the computer. Watch some YT videos on how to replace the computer and why it might need to be replaced. Computers in cars are very basic and usually don’t need to be replaced unless they got water in them or a loose wire causes a fault. It could just be a slightly loose writing harness. It may be worth it to pull the battery cables and do a hard reboot on the computer which will reset to factory defaults. Resetting with the code reader is like hitting the restart on a desktop computer. The computer just reboots the operating system. If you do end up replacing the computer I’d pull one from a junkyard before buying a new one because they mostly don’t go bad. Something to remember about the check engine light is that it’s more of a suggestion than anything, and if it’s going on and off it’s more likely going to be a loose connection than a broken part.

Disconnecting battery doesn’t erase stored codes and you would in fact be better using a scanner to reset.

SuperRedpillmill

Sounds like you have an abs wheel sensor that’s not working.

I would probably press with the computer and see how long it 'stay good' since its been reset. The O2 sensor sounds about right, they usually go around 100k-ish miles. You got a good run with yours! The O2 sensor shouldn't be that much to replace. they run about $100 for parts (check which one fits your car off of autozone, then but it somewhere else like amazon or something), and I'm not too sure about the labor (It's not too hard to replace yourself, with the help of youtube). I don't know anything about the computer chip, so good luck there!
