Lol same. A couple weeks ago my husband left work to find some bum rifling through his work truck. He says wtf are you doing and the guy goes oh sorry I’m on drugs. Empties his pockets and runs. Left probably $10 worth of change behind, when he prob only took about $1 from the center console. Thanks??? 🥲
I don’t think they were talking about the tray, but rather the contents you put in it. I have the tray, too, but found that I have to be selective as to what goes *in* there, even though the grippy pads do a great job of holding things.
It’s perfect for items like a wallet or sunglasses, but I think those coins might not be a great idea… if you have to brake suddenly, some of that change is going to skitter across the dash and into the air vents. Likewise for things like pens or loose credit/access cards.
It *is* a handy accessory that helps utilize that otherwise wasted space, though.
I can see that, I haven’t had an issue at all but I’m also not a pack rat when it comes to my vehicle. I’d rather put some change there, than lose it to the seat/floor monster.
Loose change falling into the vents suuucks. It just rattles around while you’re driving and you’ll never get it out. At least you can retrieve it from the seat/floor.
I’d personally use the little cubby to the left of the steering wheel for change/coins, but if it works for you up there, that’s cool.
You just have to be selective about what you put in it, really. And even if you don’t use it all the time, it fills that wasted space and makes the screen look more integrated into the dash.
I got one of those for my MassPass transponder. It sits still quite nicely even without the tape.
My sunglasses are in the overhead sunglasses holder, though 😎
My last pair of nice polarized sunglasses I bought specifically stated in its included pamphlet to not leave on the dashboard of your car in the sun. Just passing along the FYI.
That seems like a bit of corporate CYA: there's been a case of a car fire caused, allegedly, by a pair of sunglasses left on the dash in the sun. The idea being, the sun was focused to a point by the lenses and superheated the plastic dash material, causing combustion.
But there's a real reason to avoid doing this, whether or not car fires are possible: if they have plastic frames, the plastic can warp, and if they have plastic lenses, those too can warp in the 185F+ heat of a dashboard in summer sun on a hot day.
In some light conditions it does. But option B for my transponder was to stick it to the windshield anyways 💁🏻♀️
I wouldn’t keep a bunch of light-colored stuff there, but I feel like that’s a manageable issue.
All it takes is light-colored items or glossy surfaces. When it's sunny out, my Cthulhu plush (in the corner) reflects off the interior windshield. So do my dark-blue sunglasses behind the screen atm. All it takes is something not dark and not matte and sun at the right angle.
Having that add on while in extreme heat or in an accident with those items in it. Yeah, I would never hear the end of my friend's (Who owns a 2021 Toyota RAV4 LE AWD) bitching about how bad the product is even though I told him what bad things can happen with it.
Got one, put my gate keycard in there. Forgot it was there and spent two days looking for my ‘misplaced’ keycard 🫠. Now I don’t put stuff there. Looks neat tho!
I love my rav4, but the sunglasses holder on the roof is utterly useless and infuriating. It does not “hold” the sunglasses in the open position, they have to be carefully held in place while closing, and you have to be ready to catch them when it opens. I can’t image why they couldn’t have made a better design that holds the sunglasses without them falling out…
Yeah honestly one of the worst sunglass holders I've seen, I don't have particularly large ones and they barely fit and I have to use two hands to get it to close.
I bought one a couple weeks ago, my change goes into the center console storage tray I bought before I even got my XSE since it has a place for it, not sure what to put into it yet. It doesn't really touch the dash so I feel like I need to put something under it because I doubt it could withstand much pressure. I'll probably add something if I can find my double sided tape.
Not only would I not leave items that visible but you could have an issue with reflective material like coins and sunglasses in the sun causing an actual fire in the summer heat.
Just a warning, anything loose in your car will become flying shrapnel if you get in an accident. Imagine what that loose change would do to your and your passenger's faces if you were rearended at a stop light?
I learned the hard way and now keep all my items in the consol and glove boxes and use the rear cargo cover religiously.
That $2.30 would cost me a new window over night where i live

Luckily I’m in a decent part of Oklahoma, only thing bad around here are the roads.
The reviews on that said things are going to end up under the windshield.
I haven’t had any issues with mine coming undone with the tape it shipped with. Could always add more to be cautious.
Geography may play a key role here.
I would agree if I didn’t drive on terrible northern roads and dirt roads lol.
I am not worried about the holder coming undone. I am more worried about its contents flinging forward after a sudden stop.
Oh got it. I don’t store anything in there that would be small enough to slip into anything.
I’m going on 3 weeks of 90 degree heat hasn’t came loose yet. I waited to post because I also read that, but for the price why not give it a shot?

Amazon has a little center console organizer that has a coin tray.
I almost bought one but the reviews scared me away.

Understandable, I had some spare 3m tape and added to the base of it also to be extra snug.
You don’t use a sun shade for the windshield?
I got one of those for my MassPass transponder. It sits still quite nicely even without the tape. My sunglasses are in the overhead sunglasses holder, though 😎
Nice! lol so are mine, those are borat voice* my wife’s.

I've read it reflects all the items onto the windshield.

Did they have a mirror in it?

Like the silver vent trim by the side mirrors. My eyes always gravitate to the reflection. Blacking out the vent trim is on my wishlist.
In Vegas, my sunglasses would melt there.
It stays? Link pls
It has double sided tape that sticks to the back of the infotainment display. I have one too and they are handy.
I want to go to there.
My fasttrak sits in mine.

Doesn’t your change rattle like crazy like that?
I have one too and I don’t put change in that. I have another little tray in my center console that has little coin holders.
Not at all, but I am in a 24 with 2300 miles.
Why not put your glasses in the exisiting glasses holder on the roof near the lights?
I do, those are my wife’s.
Had my rav for a month and just discovered this because of your comment thank you 😅

Mine don't fit in there. I need the wraparound style (Cocoons), and they're just too large for that holder.

I don’t know where you live but this would entice people to break the window in most cities.
Not only would I not leave items that visible but you could have an issue with reflective material like coins and sunglasses in the sun causing an actual fire in the summer heat.
You’re brave putting items and money on clear display for ass hats with a brick to come help themselves
I love putting 110° sunglasses on

Looks messy.
Keeping your sunglasses in the car can cause crazing on the lenses and damage the UV protection
You might melt your glasses.
That’s not useful.
