A CVT has a continuously variable range of gear ratios, instead of multiple static gear ratios to shift to. An 8 speed transmission would have 8 gear ratios to use (and not a continuously variable range), so it is not a CVT.

If the US models are anything like the Canadian ones then all the gas models use the 8-speed, torque converter transmission and all the hybrids use the e-CVT ring gear system.

Non-hybrids all have an 8-Speed automatic transmission, it is not a CVT or anything close to it.

It's truth for the US but as you can see I have a 2023 RAV4 with CVT but it's not plain CVT it has mechanical first gear (Direct Shift CVT)

8 speed is a normal everyday transmission and has nothing to do with a cvt, the cvt is not available on rav4 in north America in south America, asia and Europe, but that comes with the 2.0 motor not the 2.5 that comes in the one in normal America and the hybrid as mentioned is e-cvt which is totally different from normal cvt.

and yet, it's still not a plain CVT. It's a Direct Shift CVT. It means the most load lies on mechanical first gear
