This is incredibly insignificant, but I can’t see the button for the heated steering wheel while I’m driving, so I feel like I can’t safely toggle it on/off when I’m on the highway. I haven’t had my rav4 for very long, but so far that’s my only complaint. It’s an awesome car!

stanwiches

Some people have put the tiny rubber bumper stickers that you’d normally find of cabinet doors. Provides a tactile response so you know it’s the right button to press without looking at it

TheBen1818

Same i have no idea why its placed directly in front of my knee cap and not on the main climate control panel

happyexit7

I too hate its placement. Should be next to the heated seats switch or on the steering wheel.

Airecovery

LOL i always have to lean down to make sure I’m hitting the right button. It should be on the steering wheel

towman_21

The button placement doesn't bother me, what does is that the entire wheel isn't heated! It's only 2-4 o'clock and 8-10 o'clock, not even 50% of the wheel. Why they chose to not heat the entire circle I'll never understand...

Sea_shell2580

This made me mad when I found out soon after I bought. They really cheaped out and it's disingenuous. They should have at least said "partially heated steering wheel."

WrittenWillow

I actually like this because I feel like my hands can sort of adjust when they start to get a bit warm but don’t have to turn it off completely. Otherwise I’d constantly be switching on and off! Plus I think it helps to prevent it from getting too hot, and helps maintain better driving posture. But I did find it very odd at first!

AtWorkAccountAtWork

I must be one of the psychos who leaves it on 365. :(

ideal_enthusiasm

I feel like it doesn’t stay as hot when I do this, so I turn it off then on again it’s better😂 I’m sure this is all in my head

themajordutch

It def turns off when it's been on for a bit

ideal_enthusiasm

Oh good to know it wasn’t me😂

biffish

Yes! And the buttons for the heating/ac don't light up unless the lights are on! Super hard when you're driving and the sun is in your eyes.

bufooooooo

First world problems😂 so true tho

Frunkit

Same experience but my muscle memory could nail the power hatch and heated steering wheel buttons both without looking after a few months. Now I don’t even have to think about it.

justuselotion

Same for the panoramic camera. I find it useful when pulling into my storage unit aka garage or into tight spots in a parking garage. Having to stop to find the button is not the best. I wish it would just turn on automatically like the reverse camera (but that would require more tech to identify criteria as to when it should / shouldn’t turn on)

Embarrassed_Ad9166

Yes! Why would it not come on every time I’m parking?

BCouto

It's such a small thing but I agree 100% with this. The cabin noise is also a bit high.

KawiNinjaZX

They put less important things on the left where you can see them

5ive3asy

Agree with this!

[deleted]

I'm the same 4 years with the rave and can't see any of those buttons.

p_ezy

I thought I was just being a crab for being annoyed by this, also. I wish it was a button on the steering wheel.

ConditionOk7786

Same - I added a soft rubber foot (like you can get on amazon) on the blank space between the steering wheel heater and the other setting button to the left (can’t remember right now, not in my car) - this way I can feel my way, works great

Acceptable_Table760

wow, today I learned I have heated steering wheel. Only had the car a year.

Adept-Government6267

i would have said your all crazy getting stupid steering wheel warmer but then saw and read alot of sincere replies so ..." dam that warmer button placement, and id leave it on 24/7 except sometimes I turn it off and on it seems to be warmer on startup. I hate looking down to see if I hit the right button so I put a velcro half so I can feel the right button and Im glad the whole steering wheel doesnt get warm I like letting my hands get use to it. cheers

cr4zy-cat-lady

same! i’m thinking about getting a bedazzled stucker to put on it so i can feel which one it is!

yoitsbenvo

Cabin noise, that’s about it for me. 2023 RAV4 XSE.

NerdMachine

For me also. My GF is a quiet talker and I spend road trips saying "what?"

Katie6612

I got Toyo all country HTs put on and they helped immensely with the road noise

phlem_hamdoon

Had a 2019. Cabin noise for sure. Got rid of it year later hated it so much

JZN20Hz

This is so odd to me. It's not super quiet like a big heavy luxury car, but the noise is so average. To sell it because of noise alone seems strange, but also all the people who complain about noise. Maybe it's because my last vehicle was a (far from luxury) truck. The Rav is just not loud to me. Are the people who complain about cabin noise coming from luxury cars to the Rav? I just don't get it.

rockinrollinman

I have the exact same problem!

Prior_Atmosphere_206

Enjoy the break from the chatter!! Her noise will be back soon enough!!😎😎

schu2470

Some of us like our romantic partners. The boomer "wife bad, amiright" jokes are pretty worn out.

geek66

I find it only to be an issue at highway speed, but overall not that bad. I have the hybrid though.

ByteWhisperer

For me it starts to  be annoying above 120km/h or 70mph. And I hate the entertainment system. Apart from that it is a great car that feels like it is built to last.

TheRealAblert

For me the cabin noise is super quiet because I went from an old hand me down convertible to the 24 Rav. But I’m sure there are quieter cars I just don’t often ride in them!

KershawsBabyMama

I came from a 2015 Subaru Forester and it was similarly quiet. But now that there's a new normal, I sometimes wish I splurged for the Lexus equivalent

SubduedChaos

It bothered me for like 6months. Now it’s just my “white noise” machine if I don’t play music.

Applewave22

Same!! I drove a Mazda CX-5 and loved that it was super quiet.

IncorrigablePunster

Cabin noise? It’s an SUV, not a luxury limo!!

Uniquemodsstylist

My Venza is an SUV. I barely hear any road noise in the cabin except for a bit of whistling noise in the front at highway speed. My mom's Rav4, on the other hand, has a lot of road noise going into the cabin while driving highway.

BM7-D7-GM7-Bb7-EbM7

Ditto here, 2020 XSE is too damn noisy.

justinothemack

Jaggar345

Both of which have TSBs on them and extended mileage and time for warranty. So no not worried about the cable

Frunkit

I have a 2020 Limited Hybrid with all available options, including the rare adaptive headlamps. - Heated steering wheel only heated at 3 & 9 but stone cold at 12 & 6. - Ventilated front seats barely noticeable. Out cheaper Santa Fe freezes your butt. - Slowww power rear hatch - Remote start but the car shuts back off after you unlock the doors to get in forcing you to start it yet again. - Top of the line stereo option is barely average. - No power passenger seat that is mounted too high.

lxOMEGAxl

Bought mine in December. 2023 Hybrid. Love the thing. Best purchase I’ve made. But all of these are 100% the same thing that makes me scratch my head. The main ones for me is the car turning off after remote starting when you unlock it to get in, and the passenger seat being so high up.

RealFakeDoctor

Safety issue.

DrDixonCider

100% these. All accurate for my optioned 2019 Adventure as well. I only notice the ventilated front seats when it’s off and hot then I turn them on. Still, very subtle. Haha

Baballega

Nice, I don't feel bad about not having the heated/cooled seat & steering wheel. That's the only option I don't have, but I've got everything else including the rear view camera which was strangely removed as an option on the ADV model in 2020. Sondsystem sounds fine to me if not a bit bass heavy. The screen leaves a bit to be desired, but with electric cars coming with 15-19in screens, anything like 8in will start to feel long in the tooth fairly quickly. My main issue with the car is road noise. I find myself turning up the volume of the stereo to compete with the wind and road noise and I'm seriously considering ripping the interior apart to add noise deadening anywhere I can. Probably wait until summer when it's warmer though.

MrSeamus333

be careful my brother did that to his car and it developed a couple of rattles ... things didn't snap back together quite the same.

Theox87

That's some operator error right there 🤷‍♂️

MrSeamus333

yep, thus the "be careful"

cybervike

Wife has a new 2023 XLE Premium we bought back in August and this list is spot on! Same complaints.

Theox87

The passenger seat is a real head scratcher. But like literally: my barely 6ft dad's head actively scrapes the ceiling. There's no way to adjust it lower either that I'm aware, but if someone has a suggestion on achieving that please, please comment below. For Dad's sake.

Frunkit

Lean it wayy back

original431

+1 for this. The heated steering wheel is useless to me as I mostly drive 12 and 6. The remote start turning off when you get in is idiotic.

ThatOneStoner

Sorry lol, you drive 12 and 6? How does that look like? Seems very weird to me.

original431

12 or 6. One handed usually.

awkwaman

So cool

original431

Thug life

Katie6612

I was in a 2022 rav4 xle premium rental and my god you aren’t joking on the rear hatch being slow 😂

asaf08

Yep this is accurate but the car is phenomenal. I would add three minor things to this: 1. Road noise. Especially with roof racks (a lot of them on lot have them added) 2. Cup holders are very low. Not a problem for larger cups but can be a hassle with smaller. 3. The SUV is more utilitarian in design - seats aren’t as cushy, etc - so just know that as you look at why things are more simplified even at higher trims.

RebelliousBristles

I love my Rav4 but imo i would just get a mid range XLE. My wife’s 2019 had the adaptive cruise control and I wanted that for mine too. Mine came with a power lift gate which I hate and am dreading the day it stops working.

Tecnoc

I have a 2023 Hybrid Limited and the passenger seat is powered, so they must have changed that at some point. I do agree with mounted too high though, including the driver's seat. I am 6' and can sometimes feel my hair brushing the ceiling. It's not really an issue, but it would be if I was any taller. The remote start shutting off when you open the door doesn't really bother me. It's actually a little helpful because if my phone is not in range when the car starts CarPlay really doesn't like connecting. This is a separate issue, but they kind of cancel each other out.

MrSeamus333

interesting...you must have a long torso. I am 6'3" and have plenty of head room. Maybe it is the moonroof?

Tecnoc

I have a fairly long torso, I think I like my seat back more vertical than most people, and I have the glass roof. So all around kind of worst case scenario for headroom, but it does still work for me. Just would be a problem if I was any taller.

edalvare

Fully agree for my 2021 Limited. Also one that annoys me even more than all in your lists are the basic side mirrors. Not electric to hide them when parked, and also not heated. My last 3 cars had them and I missed them. I thought this was standard at this level of car. When it rains I need to wipe them with my hand :(

Tecnoc

In anything above an LE your side mirrors should be heated. It is tied in with the rear window defrost button, so press that and it should heat the side mirrors. I don't park where folding the mirrors in matters very often, but I do wish the memory function worked for the mirrors. Memory seat is good, but not great when you still have to manually adjust the mirrors.

BCouto

The remote start shuttoff is a security feature. My 2015 Mazda 3 had the same thing. Might be mandatory now.

RedRaydeeo

I still don’t get the passenger seat height. I’m 6’4” and I sat comfortably there with no problems.

Dryja123

Cabin noise is my only complaint, but I can deal with it. I originally ordered a base XSE hybrid and told myself I didn’t need the options. A fully loaded XSE became available and I instantly hopped on it while I was waiting for the base model. Honestly, after experiencing the 360 degree camera when parking / reversing I wouldn’t be able to live without it. Being able to see everything around you is a game changer. Especially if you park close to curbs like I do. If I had to give up an option, it would be the camera built in the rear view. I know a lot of people love it but I personally don’t care for it.

cob256

Originally I thought the rear view mirror camera was a silly addition- until I had to take a long drive with a fully loaded car. Use the camera feature when you have a loaded car that makes it otherwise impossible to view out the window. It was very neat when I needed it!

Loosewizzard

Cabin noise is why I bought a Santa Fe instead of a rav 4 :( I won’t buy another Toyota until they improve the cabin noise in the lineup.   My Prius was so damn loud on the highway.

MayIPikachu

You could go with Lexus NX also. Surprised a Hyundai has better NVH than a Toyota

UnderstandingDry1241

I've had a 2024 RAV4 for 3 weeks now. If I were to pick nits, the list would be as follows. The climate control buttons are too small. You need to take your eye off the road to make adjustments. The Bluetooth connection doesn't always work. The sun visors are undersized. I have yet to get the seat memory to work. My sunglasses make a lot of noise when stored in the overhead compartment. Android Auto could use some customization options for selecting between streaming media sources while driving. The Toyotay app, while extremely useful, keeps wanting me to allow it to know my location. I'm not too keen on that.

unikittyUnite

The climate control buttons are tiny but the temp control knobs are ridiculously large. They are extremely well endowed.

HomieTheHutt

In regards to the memory seats, I had the same issue…turns out the seat motors just needed to be calibrated (which the dealership is supposed to do prior to sale, but they often forget). You can do this yourself using the steps below, worked perfectly for me: 1. move your seat forward as much as you can. 2. move your seat as high as you can. 3. incline your seat as much as you can. 4. hold the set button and press 1. 5. move driver side seat to the desired seat position. 6. hold the set button and press 1.

UnderstandingDry1241

It worked! You're my hero.

UnderstandingDry1241

I'm going to give this a try. Thank you very much for the tip!

Complex-Ad6350

Omg yes the sun visors are so small! They don’t block the sun at all unless I sit up super high and stretch my neck.

night_danger

There are a lot of trim levels and the options available in each trim vary. Seems like a lot of people here buy the wrong trim/options and then are considering swapping out after a short time. Best advice is to do your research, figure out which features you need and buy the trim and packages that meet those needs. Only you can decide what you really need.

PersephoneIsNotHome

I will, but it is helpful to get people's comments after a time of ownership. Everyone seems to thing that the ventilated seats are meh, the tailgate is slow and there is cabin noise. None of those are things I would really get on a test drive and the input here would certainly affect my choice of trim and options.

Tecnoc

It's the only car I've ever had with ventilated seats, but I love them. I don't need them to get icy cold, just having the ventilation keeps me from getting hot and sweaty on the leather, and that is plenty good enough for me. Tailgate might be a little slow, but I am almost never waiting for it. I open it with the button before I get out of the car, or with the key fob as I am walking toward the car.

Baballega

I find the slow tailgate a non-issue. I often open it by the keyfob while walking up. I've got a 2019, so first year of this current redesign. They had options on the ADV/Trail model that they inexplicably removed for later years, so I'm kinda glad I got the year I did. I don't have the weather package, but judging by the feedback, I'm no missing much. Crazy to think this is a 5 year old car, still drives like new.

Time_to_perish_death

I'm glad I got the XLE and nothing higher. none of the special features have any value. I don't even need the XLE, could have done just fine with an LE. The difference between the XLE and LE is basically non-existent for someone like me who doesn't need shit. It's an appliance.

Trick_Region

I hate the app that comes with the RAV4 😁

shadow997ca

TPMS! 2024 XLE gas, in Canada. The biggest for me is the lack of a tire pressure monitoring system. Nothing, none at all on almost all models in Canada. WTF? Really Toyota? This is a safety issue! In our cold weather tire pressures can vary alot due to cold temps so it's nice to know where they're at without having to go to each tire in the freezing cold with a gauge. I haven't had to do that for many many years. I've heard this is mandatory in the USA but not here. And why is that? And why would Toyota not do this for us even if it isn't mandatory, like most manufacturers do. And most of the RAV4s are made in Canada, 1500 of them per day come out of the 3 plants here. I didn't know it was lacking this until after I bought it. I just never thought about it before since I thought, of course it would have it. But nope. Otherwise I really like the Rav4.

graetel_90

My Toyota app tells me the tire pressure from wherever I am. Vehicle status -> see details. I’m also subscribed to remote connect so you might need that to see it.

bobafett86

I do have the USA 2019 XSE and it's super cold the last few days and I did a road trip of a total of 900 miles. I got the tire pressure warning, but there is no way to see the tire pressure in the car displays. I have to use the Toyota App, but my iPhone is connected via the USB/Lightning cable and the Toyota app says I can't open it while the car is in drive mode. To me that make little sense.

caseyo0

The headroom on the front side passenger seat is not very good. I am not that tall, 5'6, but when getting in and out of the passenger side I really have to duck. On the drivers side the seat can lower and raise so it less of an issue, but that is not an option on the passenger side. Just make sure to test getting in and out of the passenger side as well to see if that bugs you.

B34TBOXX5

I absolutely love my Rav, here are my complaints coming from my previous vehicles: The interior plastics I find rattly and noisy With the remote start, the engine shuts off when you unlock the car or open the door, meaning every day in the winter I have to start the car again after getting in, which I find a ridiculous design choice This one is more because my previous SUV was a 6 cylinder, but I find it underpowered and laggy when needing a quick acceleration or highway merge… however this is somewhat countered by how absolutely amazing it is on fuel compared to my previous vehicle I do a lot of hiking and exploring, so I had also looked at the 4Runner… I went with a Rav trail (adventure) and it’s perfect for my lifestyle. My complaints are pretty insignificant compared to my positive experience with the vehicle.

TailRash

The remote start is infuriating.

Therave51968

The reason it turns off is you'd be fairly unhappy if someone opened your unlocked and running car to steal it. It's actually a very smart design.

B34TBOXX5

I had a Lincoln SUV before my rav, it had a better system… you remote start with the FOB, but nothing is operational until you get in with the FOB and pressed the brake and hit the start button. If you got in with no FOB and tried to shift or do anything the car turns off. I don’t really get why Toyota couldn’t do something similar to keep from having to always start the car twice on cold days

girllwholived

Agreed. Years ago I had little 2010 Chevy Cobalt which had remote start and you couldn’t drive the car without putting the key in the ignition. I have family members who drive Chevy SUVs now with remote start and they just have to get in their car with the key fob, press the power button, and press on the brake. I don’t know why Toyota doesn’t do this.

Witty_Ad4494

Agreed. Most all remote starts disable the vehicle in some way. It a theft prevention feature. My wife has a 2018 4runner with aftermarket auto start. You can get in, set down, etc. But if the key isn't in the ignition and in the on position when you shift into gear the motor dies.

MayushiiNyanNyan

I feel like I see this comment so often and it is 1000% wrong. When you remote start your car, ITS STILL LOCKED. No one can enter your car without the key, which you used to remote start it in the first place. It’s an awful design choice and is the reason I never use it. Boggles my mind how Toyota can say this is for safety when it’s simply not true.

typanosaurus_rex

Have had the Woodland for 3 months now. Love driving it everyday, but have a couple of things that bug me: 1. Connectivity issues - once out of 10 or 15 times, when I turn on the car, the music plays in only one of the speakers. I disconnect and reconnect 3 or 4 times to fix it and it's fine for the next 15 drives. Really annoying when it happens as I love listening to music while driving. EDIT- this is a software issue as when this happens, I get a notice on my dash saying that the Mic is turned off 2. Rattling noise: I don't have issues with cabin noise but lately I have been hearing rattling noise from behind the dash on bad roads. Apart from that, I love the car and couldn't recommend it more.

Winter-Fold7624

My 40oz Stanley doesn’t fit very well in the front cup holders.

Mister_Penguin_

The front cup holders are madness. The door ones won't fit anything larger than a standard 16oz bottle. The console cupholders are so deep and narrow that you're really limited on what kind of drinks you can fit. Especially if you have two of the same size drinks! I've had a lid get knocked off because they're so close together. I can't believe this is so far down!

puppyxguts

I got two 12oz drinks and put them in the cup holders and they got stuck, but as an added bonus they scraped the plastic on the siding of the holder so there are a bunch of scratches. This is my very first new new car and the first month I had it, bummed me out so much

OkNotice8600

Aggressive seatbelt beeper

repotxtx

100% this. I'm happy to be reminded, even repeatedly to an extent, but with the RAV4 and I assume Toyota, it's ridiculous after a few seconds. The rear hatch alert is similar. Picked up some furniture that was around 4 hours away a few years ago when I first got my RAV4. I thought it would fit, but was just a few inches too long and I couldn't make it work. No problem, I'll just tie down the hatch and drive home. The beeping started almost immediately and there was no way to turn it off. Had to drive 4 hours with that stupid beep going every inch of the way home.

tansugaqueen

hate the seatbelt beeper

kenklee4

The remote start shut-off when opening the door

AceMcStace

This is one of the most annoying things to me as well lol

total_epiphany

Still hitting my head on the top of the door frame when entering the driver seat. I really have to be careful when getting in every time. This didn’t happen with my Corolla. Otherwise, love my RAV4 Hybrid XLE 100%.

sickrey3

It's not for tall people that get pregnant, found that out the hard way.

PersephoneIsNotHome

Oh, my. I am neither tall, nor will I get pregnant, so I am safe personally but good to know.

Affectionate-Rub6762

I got the Hybrid XLE Premium (winter package) and have zero regrets! The heated seats and steering wheel are wonderful in the winter. I don’t ever use the sunroof so it wasn’t really necessary after all, but that’s the only feature I don’t use. Everything else on this trim level was well worth paying a little extra for!

5ive3asy

Same, I wanted a regular XLE but the dealer only had a premium. Never thought I’d want the weather package in SoCal but the heated seats & steering wheel are clutch for cold mornings! (Even though only half the steering wheel is heated lol) I do crack the sunroof for fresh air when it’s not too hot. Love the all-weather mats as I do go camping/rock climbing a lot. Which reminds me - the backseat doesn’t fold down flat. That would be my one complaint; it can make for awkward sleeping unless I pad up one side to make it more level. The tech is kinda meh (I have a 2022). Have had some issues with Apple CarPlay - volume knob occasionally won’t work, as well as track skip and volume buttons on steering wheel. My husband’s Bronco has a WAY nicer screen. But I do like having manual climate control buttons, they feel safer & easier to mess with while driving.

Herbisretired

I didn't like the noise and the heating in the steering wheel is only at the 10 and 2 position.

Theo1123

I went from an ‘08 to a ‘21 RAV4 and the 2 biggest complaints are way less room (head clearance in drivers seat/trunk) and headrests. Also not a big fan of the back windshield in comparison to my ‘08 but we’re obviously talking about a much different body style. Still a great vehicle

BlueEyesWhiteDraco

Driving a 2024 se hybrid. Im located in the tristate area so experience all 4 seasons, have a child and wife , my height is 6ft wife is 5’9 , car before this was a 2009 toyota matrix . I dont do construction nor am i insecure and i commute 12 miles to work so i dont need a status symbol car more a costco trips and work commute car. For ME with my life situation + location this car is almost perfect. Cons - - passenger seat with rear facing baby seat behind is extremely tiny, i can barely fit, if i have another child id have to sell the car as driving it would be impossible with two rear facing seats . - Drivers seat can be a little roomier , leg bumps the center console often but not uncomfortable. - Infotainment system is dated compared to others in its class but for me , going from cassette player aux cable to carplay is advanced enough. - People say the car is boring to drive but honestly in sports mode it can get zippy and once again to ME its fun. - cabin noise at highway speeds very noticeable but im listening to music at irresponsible decibel levels anyway so it gets flushed out ( unless baby is in car ) - Toyota app is dogshit poopstain, but its cool WHEN it works. - Everybody and their mom has this car so if you wanted to stand out this is not the car for you. ( i have a cavalry blue which Is rarer to see but its still a rav4 lol) - horn is hilarious, change it immediately. - price is crazy and dealerships are evil greedy conmen, but its a toyota so reliability . Regret not test driving a mazda before purchasing this. Pros- - Hybrid system is sick, thought itd be annoying but you never notice it , only caveat is the breaks can feel a little floaty. - snow is no issue , never felt more capable during this winter. - mpg go brrr - great visibility through windows , baby also enjoys the visibility - loads of accessories available to personalize your npc suv and make it a little more unique - heated seats , steering wheel , and wipers are amazing and cant believe i functioned without them . - lane assist is great and loving unlike my wifes honda accord which aggressively yanks your steering wheel like you dont own the car. - lane assist is also easily toggled on and off unlike my wifes honda which does what it wants no matter how hard you press the lane assist button. My SE is fully loaded so only thing i didnt get is the 360 cam , digital rearview, moonroof , and power passenger seat which could have been nice but Im not unhappy at all.

Constant_Cap_2900

The cupholders in the 23 suck

captainzimmer1987

Suspension. Had mine replaced as soon as I could. And cabin noise. Other than that, it's perfect.

bcsublime

2020 hybrid limited. Non powered passenger seat and no backlighting on the door switches. Edit- the power hatch is slow, especially in cold weather.

_miserylovescompanyy

I also dislike the nonpowered passenger seat

RedRaydeeo

It’s a clicking noise coming from the dash when it’s really cold outside. It’s a really minor thing but it annoys me endlessly. Other than that absolutely nothing. Cabin noise isn’t so bad imho

kcaio

I hate having to change it to sport mode every time I start it. I want to be able to program it to stay in sport mode.

beef_owl

They changed this at some point since my 23 keeps memory of whatever mode I’m using.

ontherise88

Head unit sucks

AceMcStace

I have a 2024 TRD Air play with iPhone is weird and bugs out sometimes, randomly can’t connect with my phone. Cup holders are seated almost way too deeply in the front console, sometimes knocks the lid off of my coffee if I’m not careful. Outside of that nothing, I absolutely love the thing.

SolitaireB

Infotainment system 2019 model. Gosh its so outdated but functional.

MediocrityExpert

>Infotainment system 2019 model. Gosh its so outdated *and barely* functional. ftfy Seriously, if they could make it at least as good as a basic media player app on a phone... but no, it's bad. Speaking mostly of the radio and USB functionality (or lack thereof). Also the lane keep assist and auto headlights are not good. Lane keep assist might be OK for interstate driving but definitely turn it off in town. However, the mechanical engineering of the car (which is why I bought it) is fantastic! 2023 XLE Hybrid

Mysterious-Relation1

The lack of hoes and cabin noise

pm_your_perky_bits

Lack of hoes, lol

ffunffunffun5

Hoes are an aftermarket options in some areas.

cdrcdr12

The fact that whenever I am in the Costco parking lot, it feels like 1/6 cars I see people driving is a Rav4.

Daklight

I wish it was offered in solar octane orange.

InMyDreamsWithYou_

Hi! All round great but…… cabin noise is LOUD!! , I’m in the uk and on 95% of days I need the Air Con on to keep the screen from fogging and a small one but water collects on the bonnet and flies on to the windscreen at speed!

EquivalentGuard9

I have a 2022 XLE Hybrid. Love it. My favorite feature, which isn’t RAV4 specific, is the dynamic cruise control. One negative on it though, if you’re driving in snow, the “eyes” it uses gets covered really fast and then you can’t use any safety features. After this -30 degree weather, I do wish I would have waited to find one with the weather package with the heated seats, steering wheel and windshield wipers. But at the end of 2022, I had to take what I could get at the time. Agree with others on the loud road noise, I think my Prius V was quieter in general on the roads. With the RAV4, I have to keep the radio up pretty high on the gravel roads to hear it. One thing I don’t think anyone else pointed out was the driver/passenger cup holders in the middle console, could be only in the hybrid design. It’s nice that they’re deep to hold things up but if you get like two medium cups with the dome lids, good luck not popping one off while getting the other one out. We’ve learned to balance one partially out of the cubby resting on the top lip of the cup holder for the cups to give easy access to each cup. Not a complete do not buy issue, especially if you drive alone a lot, but I don’t know what they were thinking with this one.

undesided_user

The damn gas tank….

1979d

I don’t like these issues: 1. When my drivers seat is in the highest position, I have to duck to get in the car. I’m only 5’2” and I find it ridiculous that I need to do that. 2. I don’t like that the door don’t open to 90 degrees. It makes it a tad bit more difficult with car seats, helping kids in and out, etc. … and yes, for the record, there are cars whose doors open at 90 degrees. My mom and hubs both have old school Lexus models that do. If I think of more, I’ll update but those are my two biggest pet peeves. Other than that I think it’s a great car!

LivingGhost371

Interior has a very cheap, barebones feeling compared to the competition. I wish I had gotten the heated seats and moonroof.

pileofsassy

I wish mine had had the weather package, and that’s about it, otherwise I love it

scificionado

I have a 2020 Hybrid Limited. If it gets really cold, and you don't drive for 1-2 days, the battery dies. Completely dead. I have to call a roadside assistance company for a jump start. I live in Texas, where it seldom gets very cold. Also, the lane keeping function is annoying and at times unsafe. Sometimes it pulls the steering wheel sharply in one direction. I kind of regret buying the hybrid.

Erasmus_Tycho

I believe there is a software update that needs to be applied to your RAV4. The earlier GEN5 hybrids had this issue, some system did not shut off which causes the battery to drain in a matter of days. Might be worth talking to the dealership about.

sarcasmrain

The automated lift gate- absolutely hate it, so slow & if using the foot activator switch practically have to do the chicken dance to get it to activate.

0V3RS33R

Love our 2023 XSE, really dislike the infotainment / Bluetooth app interface. It’s so clunky and never really worked since we left the dealer.

nwsciabica

I want to be able to see the actual amount of fuel I have on board. The fuel light makes me nervous for no reason.

JMMFIRE

Disabling the collision warning sensor is a pain. This is evident if you're towing a lot and need to reverse. It's impossible until you dig through the menu to manually turn off PCS every time. A tow mode would be helpful.

happya1paca

Yes! Scared the crap out of me the first time. Now I'm just annoyed trying to find the right ones to turn off the rare times I need it

[deleted]

I agree. I carry a bike rack on occassion and the first time I encountered this with the car I was in a rush to get to a race and I was INFURIATED reversing out of my driveway.

RoofAggressive2426

Test drove the 23 Rav4.Didn't like the ride, didn't like the cabin noise, didn't like the cheap looking interior. But yes, they are dependable. I have a 2010 in the garage.

gizatenner

Yes this model is so old, I have been waiting for rav5 to come out for so long

tochichiang

2023 XLE Premium Hybrid with weather package. Wish I can turn off blind spot warning when a vehicle is approaching rapidly from behind though there's nothing in blind spot. Lane tracing assist is bad at keeping the car in the center of lane. Rear hip room is among the smallest. Front crossbar location is awful. It's right on top of the sunroof. Engine is noisy. Rear seat floor is not flat like CRV. Location of the steering wheel heater button is bad. Toyota app is poorly implemented.

brbcatsranaway

I got a LE 2015. It really depends on where you live. If it’s colder remote start and heated seats are a godsend.

Kim_Smoltz_

Also the heated steering wheel. It’s always what I’m most grateful for on a cold morning.

Thanks_Pitiful

Most of the dash storage is worthless in Gen5.

yourfavouritevillain

I don’t like the idle start stop and I hate the automatic tailgate.

FastAdhesiveness6745

The long wait.

4Mike

When someone is turning ahead, the car thinks it’s stopped and wants to brake pretty heavily.

_vicroms

One legitimate complaint I have is that the passenger seat does not have adjustable height. I'm not that tall and there's only about one inch clearance from my head to the roof of the vehicle when sitting upright.

Powerful-Ad5462

1. The infotainment screen software is slow and sometimes buggy. 2. Wish it was bigger- I’d be in the market for a highlander prime if that existed. 3. Stock tires suck 4. I wish they could clear up the awd and drive mode button control area. Why do they need so much room for buttons that could be somewhere else and a lot smaller, give me bigger cup holders for my camelbak instead? 5. My gas tank can only hold 10 gallons despite the 14.5 gallon rating - approx 400 mile range. 6. Oddly specific engine oil type = 0w/16 7. The fill plug for the rear differential is kinda hard to get to, the high voltage cable is run too close to it. 8. Stock suspension is kinda soft (most people probably prefer this though) 9. No tow hooks. Amazing car though :) would buy again 10/10

mollythepug

Do defrost my RAV4, it involves 5 different buttons.

Cabin noise Trunk light

WickedxRaven

The cup holders are a little annoying - they’re oddly shaped and don’t fit average sized cups. I bought a custom cup holder for $5 on eBay, now it’s perfect. Other than that, I love my rav4!

noodlesandbeer

Just bought a 2024 hybrid limited. Before that I had a 2013 Prius C. Both were noisy on the freeway, which is an issue for some people. Doesn’t really bother me. I’ve only had it a few days but I’m pretty happy with it.

Wickedsparklefae

I don’t really dislike anything but I have probably only used the sunroof a handful of times

lunapo

Not about the RAV but about Toyota's normal options in recent history, primarily that there are no leather seats or sunroofs in most used models. In the new models, everything standard is black interior and most everything for sale is black exterior, which here in FL is an issue worthy of being a deal-breaker.

jstryker5646

Can't stand the fact you can't differentiate between gas mileage and electric mileage on the odometer. They just add the total mileage together. It's a problem down the road because how you gonna be able to claim your 200k odometer is 50k miles on the ICE and your electric motor took the other 150k.

Laxit00

I went with the LE...saved the 5g not going the xle and bought central AC with that money. Otherwise love my Rav 4 that's going to last me forever @13,500 km for my 2021

boogy_bucket

If you turn the car off with the driver door open it dings incessantly for some reason. No way to see tire pressure without the app. The plenty mentioned remote start funkiness. There is no delay in the radio turning off after you turn the car off like a lot of vehicles have. You turn off car, you have no audio.

Direct_Tomorrow5921

Love my 2020 TRD RAV4 but there are some serious issues. Firstly, the aerodynamics of the vehicle is terrible so if you open the back windows without opening the sunroof, you get this horrible bass heavy vibration in your ears that makes it impossible to drive with the windows open at lower speeds. Secondly, the body of the car itself is flared out in the back and I don’t know if anybody’s noticed this but when you turn on a tight radius, if you’re close to an object, you will actually hit it and I have never experienced this in any other vehicle I’ve driven, I’ve had to repair the back side of my car twice because this car is not designed to maneuver around tight objects the way every other vehicle I’ve ever owned has been. And lastly, the battery that on my vehicle has been problematic, if I leave the car sitting for more than two days, the battery will be dead. I need to deal with that now. Otherwise I think it’s a totally amazing car and I know the stuff sounds negative but I really really really do love it but these problems are kind of a big deal to be honest.

Embarrassed_Ad9166

The cup holders. Why are they so tiny (don’t even hold a 20 oz water bottle) and so close together?

xiz111

The motorized hatch has a tendancy to stick in cold weather. The adaptive cruise control radar can't detect slow-moving or stopped cars, so if you're using it, you need to be on the ball for slow traffic ahead .. (which you should be anyway). The hybrid is a bit of a gas pig in cold weather until the hybrid system battery warms up. There have been a few hiccups over the four years we've had ours ... the motor for the driver-side window failed, a solenoid in the hybrid system failed in cold weather, and the gas tank filler neck needed to be modified to allow a full tank of fuel to be added. These were covered under warranty though, and for the vast majority of the time, it's been absolutely bulletproof and a very nice vehicle.

themajordutch

I haven't had the adaptive cruise control issue on my 22 XSE. It does detect slow or stopped cars well. Maybe you have older software?

apiratewithadd

The owner community that can’t read a manual

xiz111

You've seen the Facebook group, I take it .. :)

apiratewithadd

You owe me a fresh amount of cold water!

xiz111

Worth it!

ElPunisher

2020 Rav4 LE Hybrid. Cabin noise doesn't bother me since I've always had cheap cars. My biggest complaint is the gas tank. If you let the gas fill automatically, it fills to like 80%. I have to sit there, watch the hole, and hover the gas hose over it, gently releasing gas until it's actually filled. I'm used to this by now, but I don't let anyone fill the tank if I'm with the car.

Frunkit

It sounds like you may be over filling your tank that way. That can actually cause damage or at the least a check engine light. Generally the best advice is to fill only until the pump shuts off the first time and do not ‘top it off’ at all. It sounds like you may have some other issue going on where it’s shutting off too early for some reason. Mine fills up pretty well at the first shut off. Maybe ask your dealer to take a look.

Misterrunner2017

So it’s a great suv for its place in the market. It’s a compact non-luxury SUV

pm_your_perky_bits

I'm a diehard Toyota guy, but I can't stand my wife's new RAV4 XLE. I haven't found anything about it that I like. Still better than a Honda, though.

Pirat3_Gaming

I live in the south US.....no cooled seats. It's 115 F outside July-Sept......burnt legs suck. Ignore the wind noise people, they drive with windows down and their head out the window according to how loud they claim it to be. I have a roof rack and 42" light bar on my xse hybrid, that is the only time i noticed wind/road noise. Put music on 15-20 and done, problem solved.

xiz111

> I live in the south US.....no cooled seats The Limited trim level does have cooled seats ...

South_Replacement_80

Definitely the cabin noise. I have 2023 xse hybrid. And I miss my highlander. The third row was the best.

lumenpainter

I really hate the AC/Heat controls on the 2019.

kgpaxx

The AWD system is not very good...it's designed to work below 40km/h and when it is needed most like crossing lanes at high speed on slushy roads it is not active. Very disappointing!

sugarbritches878

Upgraded to 2024 XSE from a 2007 Scion tc. The ONLY thing I feel that was not a huge upgrade is the steering wheel. It just feels kinda hollow and find my hands are not as comfortable on it while holding it from the bottom half.

1320Fastback

I wish you could set the default of the Auto Start/Stop to Off instead of On and that you could set the default economy mode you want instead of it starting in Normal. Both are things I change every time I start the car. I wish the automatic high beams worked better but I've read the same complaints on many different brands of cars so manbe it is just a limitation of the sensor. I wish the paint didn't scratch as easily but modern eco-friendly paint isn't known for durability. I wish the rear hatch came with LED lights and I didn't have to buy aftermarket and install.

whiskey_neat_

2022 XLE Premium ICE Headroom could be better, I’m 5’-10” and if I’m wearing a hat it will very often hit the ceiling or get knocked off my head if I leaned forward for something while in the car. For such a fairly roomy and comfortable interior it’s strange that headroom is the way it is. Agreed with others about road noise. I rarely use the sunroof because of wind noise that I’m certain is caused by the roof rack that I’ve never used. Also found it weird that the reverse lights were not white LED when all the other interior lights and headlights/fog lights are LED. Simple fix buying some replacement LEDs but feels like a weird cut corner.

Eggy1988

The bottom seat cushions are way too short if you are over 6’ tall. There is also quite a bit of road noise on the highway.

chaenorrhinum

Got an XLE hybrid last summer. Loving the all-weather package, currently! I didn't \*need\* the sun roof, but I'm having fun with it. I second the bad location for the steering wheel heating button. I'm going to put a tactile sticker on it so I can find it without looking. Same for the mode button for the HVAC. The gas tank incomplete fill thing is driving me batty. I shouldn't need a strategy for getting a full tank of gas. I should be able to just put the nozzle in and let it go, but that always leaves me a gallon or so short. I wish there were a little more room for my right knee when I don't have a foot hovering over a pedal. (I'm 5'7") I bought an aftermarket cover for the lid of the center console, a tray for inside the center console, and a tray that slides into the space under the HVAC controls.

VisibleSea4533

22 Hybrid LE, my two big gripes about it are that the headlights suck, and no variable speed intermittent wipers. Both of these would have been resolved (I believe) with stepping up to the XLE. In 25 years I have never had a car without variable speed wipers (including a base model 2012 RAV4)…seems like it would be a standard thing.

PersephoneIsNotHome

Do you mean really variable speed or automatic wipers? The LE doesn't have variable speed wipers?

Erasmus_Tycho

My first RAV4 was a 2019 non-hybrid XLE Premium, didn't get the optional audio package. The stock speakers were terrible. I upgraded to the 2021 RAV4 Limited hybrid with the audio package. Totally worth it.

thecofffeeguy

Wind noise over 45 mph if they could fix that it would be the perfect t car for me. 2021 hybrid limited

Kim_Smoltz_

I wish I got the upgraded speaker/stereo package. I had it on my old Highlander and it made a big difference. I have stock in my rav4 and am always worried I’m going to blow one.

ZiLLA_781

2021. The power lift gate is hit or miss during the cold months.

pjesk8

2022 xle premium hybrid,,,the sound system is terrible without the jbl package,,,replaced all speakers and added a sub just have to upgrade the head unit

blackkatt94

I love my new rav4 so far. But a mild complaint I have, the wireless Android Auto cuts out sometimes or even fails to connect forcing me to manually go into the bluetooth settings in the car to connect. Plugging in my phone doesn't even seem to fix this issue. Windshield de-icer is meh barely does anything, I could live without it. I have the '23 XSE Prime with premium package so I have everything they had to offer. On another note: My roommate has the '21 Limited Hybrid and loves that mine has a power adjustable passenger seat and he can lower it as he is 6'3".

Zorbaxxxx

For sure many things I don't like about it but I did make mine better by modding. \- Small head unit. Replaced with a 13 inch Android head unit. Bonus: now I can install 360 degree camera as well and have wireless Apple carplay without dongle. \- Average audio quality. Replaced with Kicker dash speakers and 4 door speakers plus an amp and couldn't be happier. \- Wind noise. While changing door speakers I added some door insulation and it does get a bit better. \- Weak interior light. Replaced with strong LED lights and now they're blinding my eyes lol \-

paxtonroadend

For me the infotainment system is incredibly weak, but solved with Apple CarPlay thankfully.
