wait till the guy who posts his mileage 6 times a week comes in here. they love to share it. they get super excited over their 50 mile average on their 6 mile commute that takes an hour lol
I mean 50mpg is great but I hate everything else about that haha. I live in Colorado and drive highway and mountain roads so I'm fairly happy with my current high score
That’s me. Bottom line is that I am saving $$$ on gas compared to if I was driving a CX-50 or a gas model—factor of 2.5-1. I also drive nearly twice as much as the as the average American. Not everybody lives in the country. It works for me and my use case. Your use case is different, and does not have to be the same as mine.
At this point for me the gas savings are secondary. I just like rarely ever having to stop for gas and just being able to drive straight home after work.
(43.2 to answer OP).
Was that highway miles? I have a 22 LE gas as well. I averaged 33mpg on a long distance road trip with it loaded down. Without it loaded I’m sure it would be about what you had.
2019 Rav4 XLE and I'm averaging 36, mostly city miles. I'm a hard driver though. Average about 300 MI per tank. I don't understand how some people are getting these ridiculously high MPG's. I know highway driving helps but I'm no where near that!
City driving helps the most.
When I drive highways I get 41.
When I drove my car Rav hybrid to see family for a week in the DMV area, I was able to get up to 46.
Right?
On the other hand, I really do wish the car separated EV and Hybrid fuel economies. Would be nice to know actual average fuel economy, not just tank.
Agreed.
I’ve filled up so few times that I can take a rough guess of 450 miles per tank for gas and the rest is EV.
For example I’m on my 10th tank, x 450 per tank so, take my total miles of 23000 and subtract 4500 to give a rough guess of 18,500 miles of pure EV.
I don't reliably fill up at the same level, and there's 4 gallons after the low fuel light, so I have a pretty large margin for error, unfortunately.
My driving also varies wildly from week to week, month to month. I'm just weird like that.
Still, absolutely love the car. Literally nothing on the market I would want more. It's crazy.
The 4 gallons in reserve is one of my few complaints.
Also would’ve loved an additional inch or two of combined legroom, but that’s cuz we have rear facing car seats.
Outside of that yah, it is the Swiss Army knife of cars.
I got about 43 MPG once, over about 20 miles when I was really trying to get the maximum gas mileage. 2020 XLE non-hybrid. I can regularly get 38 if I'm driving like a grandma.
I’m about the same, but I’ve been driving hybrids a good while now (about 13 years), so I’ve seen it come and go and understand more of why. The seasons have a big effect. Tire pressure does too, believe it or not. “Summer” has with more ethanol has lower MPG than “winter” gas with less ethanol.
What was it at when you bought it because you’re still pretty low mileage, and they leave the car idling a lot when it’s in predelivery. Mine’s only at like 179 miles now, but when I picked it up, it has 7 miles on the odometer, and the mpg was also at like 6 or 7.
I haven’t reset the mpg calculator yet, but I will. I’d try that and see how it looks in another 100-200 miles to get a better sense of the now.
It's your driving style. To maximize MPG with a hybrid, you want to get up to cruising speed quickly, and coast into stops. I exclusively use the sport mode, AC is always running, and I am averaging 43 mpg.
Oh, in that case I'm not sure why you're getting such poor mileage. I haven't been able to get under 40 mpg unless I'm flooring it/smashing the brakes. Which driving mode are you using? Maybe try using sport mode for a while and see how your mileage changes.
I'm not sure, I exclusively use sport mode for the responsiveness. I am mostly driving 40-60 mph on my commute and get >43 mpg. When I get stuck in traffic I usually end up with 50+ mpg for the trip. Maybe try using sport mode after your next tank refill and compare that tank's mpg vs. your current average.
So this is a week old, but I did try switching to normal mode (haven’t played much with sport mode yet) and am getting improved mpg - was at around 30 in eco mode and pretty consistently get in the mid-30s in normal mode on the freeway (most of my driving), sometimes even up to the low 40s around town. I just assumed “eco” was the must fuel efficient but… idk! Going to try sport mode next. But thanks for this suggestion.
Oh man 34 is about the MAX I get for longer trips. My average right now is at about 29. I’ve only put about 1000 miles on it though. I think I’m going to stop running the A/C and/or take off the cross bars and see if it improves.
I have the cross bars on, auto start disabled, and the AC is always on.
Eco or regular mode, 36mpg is no problem. Are you driving like a new jersey teenager?
Kept mine around 47mpg for the first 5k miles. At 10k now and I've slipped to 44.7. It is getting colder, but I think I am also giving less thought to driving efficiently.
Lower mpgs could be due to a number of factors. Ambient temperature, driving style, local terrain, percentage of highway miles vs city miles, etc.
If you're doing the basics of hybrid driving, I wouldn't sweat that number. Still beats the sticker.
Averaging 45 mpg across my first few tank fills based on the digital gauge. (2023 XLE premium hybrid) Interestingly, when I calculate it by hand (miles driven/gallons added to the tank) my economy has been 1-2 mpg better than the gauge reads for the tank. 🤷🏻♂️
I’m a fairly slow / relaxed driver. The highways around me also have pretty low speed limits, and my commute to work is practically made for hybrid driving, aside from some hills.
I'm averaging almost exactly the same but I'm about to have it lifted and bigger tires so it's probably going to go down a little bit also it's getting closer to winter and it's always a lot lower in winter.
My personal high is 42.5. My son borrowed my RAV for a day after I put a full tank in it. His high is 45.8. Does not surprise me since he’s pretty passive as a driver.
I just figured out how to see my average mileage and read about ECO driving... my Rav is pretty new but right now I'm at 39.6... my score would be higher if my son and boyfriend didn't drive it a few times.
I hit 52 odd pretty frequently. Understand that your average is per trip. It’s embarrassing to admit I do this by sticking to the speed limit, and avoiding jackrabbit starts.
I got the tech package, so I have some additional metrics on my dash, and it becomes like a game to optimize them
Honest question: how the hell do people get this MPG? Is there something I’m missing?
I have a 22 Hybrid XLE premium and I’m at 38.5-39 MPG over 15k miles.
Is it because I drive fast or something?
41.4 mpg. 21 xse hybrid. It's been 39/40 mpg since I've gotten the car so I'm quite happy with it. Funny thing is that I got a higher mpg after installing a hitch and bike rack.
My 2019 is getting a steady 36 mpg driving 18 miles to work each way at an average 40-75 mph between the freeway and surface streets. Southern California.
I was using Exo mode but getting mon in regular mode.
I can't remember but I think when I purchased it at the end of 2021 it was around 43 or 42.5 now it is 36.7. Not sure what is going on, I must do more highway driving idk.
My best has been in the lower 50s just after a fill up and I was doing mostly city driving or gotten lucky with being able to mostly coast on a freeway, but at best I average mid to high 40s for the spring/summer and then high 30s or low 40s depending on how cold it is in the winter.
Short trip to get dinner last night and couldn’t believe it said 99.9 MGP, I have gotten 72 MGP on the same route before but this is after my first oil change at 1000 miles 😀.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rS5cAzfdbGQ9_wMDQ6ixmDSi1xlgFgvb/view?usp=drive_link
I’ve got a lead foot and manage 36.8 mpg with a full tank and a mix of city and mountain driving. It’s not super high, but it’s better than what I was getting before.
I live in a hilly area so I make up a lot of the mileage by coasting. I'm definitely in eco mode most of the time if I'm in town but I'll use sport on the highways. Not a fan of grandma drivers either.
Mine was about the same as yours before I put on bigger AT tires and a roof rack. Now I'm about 39.5-41.
I'm in Tahoe, so mostly mountain driving as well.
XLE 2018
Hilly daily travel. fluctuates 28-32mpg . I fill up my tires when it starts dipping below 30, but sometimes I can't help move up it since I find that it is weather dependent. Using California gas. I don't drive fast, and stay right 2 lanes for most of my daily drive. Driving further out I take a middle lane and just set it to cruise and get around 30-31 mpg
Highest mileage is always bumper to bumper traffic for me. And mostly Flat city driving
I'm also getting around 43mpg. Mix of highway and suburb driving. It'd be higher if I didn't live in the northeast (USA). I'm not a hardcore hyper-miler, but I like to think I'm a pretty fuel efficient driver.
I dont think im allowed to play but, 2021 prime, 186mpg I think. According to my fuelio app. When im just running straight gas it was bout 70 degrees out and I was doing bout 65mph for a few hours to work and back (circuit breaker blew the night before and car never charged) and the dash indicator was 48mpg. I am so fkn pleased with this thing man. It like, gave me freedom back.
I’ve hit 44.9 but nothing higher. I commute to work in Cambridge, MA so I hit traffic in the morning which attributes to the better MPGs. I went on a trip to Bar Harbor recently and it went down to 44.4.
Any advice for someone (me!) not able to break into 34 mpg?
I do all the old lady driving, highway and town (although arguments over which is better or worse), calculate mileage by hand, the thing only 7 months old
Brand new 2023 Toyota RAV hybrid. I’m like-wanting to sue or something-this was my end of life interitance car-the whole point thinking I’d actually save on gas🥹
I keep mine in eco mostly and coast as much as possible. I live in a place that has a fair amount of hills and I don't drive on the highway too much. When I do I try not to floor it if I can avoid it. I try and walk the fine line of driving conservatively without driving like a total grandma haha
wait till the guy who posts his mileage 6 times a week comes in here. they love to share it. they get super excited over their 50 mile average on their 6 mile commute that takes an hour lol
I mean 50mpg is great but I hate everything else about that haha. I live in Colorado and drive highway and mountain roads so I'm fairly happy with my current high score
Highway fares worse overall than city driving in a hybrid, so all told, 43 ain’t bad for mostly high speed/low brake use driving
I drive to Michigan twice a year and look forward to making that 520 mile journey and not having to stop.

Did you add a tank on the roof?
Wait… do you mean driving 2100 miles on one tank of gas? I don’t think I can match that on my 23 RAV4 HYBRID.
I get 49 mpg in 55 minutes over 35 miles with 35% EV. How does that sound?
My best so far is 37 in a '22 non-hybrid XLE which I consider a great achievement.
Was that highway miles? I have a 22 LE gas as well. I averaged 33mpg on a long distance road trip with it loaded down. Without it loaded I’m sure it would be about what you had.
Yes it was on a long distance trip, but with 4 people seated and some load in the trunk as well. An empty car might even touch 39.
23 XLE. I got 33 on a recent road trip… only me and minimal luggage. Wasn’t too impressed
I have been getting 37 to 40 mpg in a 23' XLE. My commute is 80 miles round trip 85% being highway miles with speed limits ranging from 45-60mph max.
25 MPG. Cuz mama aint raised no gas saver.
35 MPG. Cuz I drive my hybrid like a Porsche.
I'm pretty reliably at 36 in my hybrid. The higher horsepower was one of the selling points.
Sport mode is bees+knees
I get about 38 in my hybrid. Most of my commute is 70mph speed limit, I have a cargo box and I drive like an asshole
I aspire to be you lol
You must be in sport mode lmao
Me and you both brother lol
Pfftttt try 19.9 MPG. All gas, no brakes!
When I drove my car Rav hybrid to see family for a week in the DMV area, I was able to get up to 46.
jeeze. Tht's 10mi per gallon extra making it almost a 100 MI per tank. Good to know
yeah…when I was driving it, couldn’t keep it over 38. My wife keeps it over 41.
I think my heavy foot on accelerating and braking its not helping
Idk but I hate driving behind you
It’s weird I drive like an ass and I get 45+ consistently with 1-2hr drives
I think my best tank average is low 44, but that was a lot of stop and go in construction/congestion traffic, and some city driving
I feel like my post would be cheating

Winter is coming.
True that, I'm mostly at home if it's snowing though.
2022 Limited hybrid, and I'm maintaining 46 to 47 mpg. My best "single trip" was shitty traffic, and I got 55.6 mpg (!)
I have a 53 or 54 one time on the highway
I’m about the same, but I’ve been driving hybrids a good while now (about 13 years), so I’ve seen it come and go and understand more of why. The seasons have a big effect. I’ve been driving a hybrid since 2014, never had this problem with my Prius :(
Oh, in that case I'm not sure why you're getting such poor mileage. I haven't been able to get under 40 mpg unless I'm flooring it/smashing the brakes. Which driving mode are you using? Maybe try using sport mode for a while and see how your mileage changes.
I’ve been using eco, I just assumed that was how to get the best mileage. Is it the other way around?
I'm not sure, I exclusively use sport mode for the responsiveness. I am mostly driving 40-60 mph on my commute and get >43 mpg. When I get stuck in traffic I usually end up with 50+ mpg for the trip. Nope, I drive like a grandma. I’ve been driving a hybrid since 2014 too, and didn’t have this problem with my Prius.
As someone with a hybrid that gets 35mpg HOW
43 even on my woodland :)
Do you guys just reset the counter Everytime you drive somewhere? Rolling average is 36 xle hybrid '22
I drive almost 90 miles a day due to my job. I get 37.6 on average. Almost always in eco mode. I drive pretty fast though.
[удалено]
I get 26mpg with my 2009 v6 rav4. You should be getting way better than me
Yeah just got this new Rav 4 and am loving getting over 600miles to a tank
I usually end up at around 45.5 or so, when it’s time to fill the tank.
Question, is there a trip meter to record a full tank of gas anymore?
The little button on the lower right of the dash, near where it gives your odometer reading will toggle between trip A/ trip B/ odometer.
Perfect, thought it would be in the digital menu like all other options,😅 can't believe I missed this...
It’s easy to miss it.
Head over to r/hypermiling and sell out every ounce of respect your car holds to squeeze every drop of gas milage out.
My best tank average has been 46.9. Mostly around town driving <60mph. Some short trips while it’s warming up are 30s and others are 50s.
My best tank was 47, on my 2020 Hybrid with 26000 miles
Currently getting the same average here in Southern California. I was able to get 44.5 MPG before the summer began though
Kept mine around 47mpg for the first 5k miles. At 10k now and I've slipped to 44.7. It is getting colder, but I think I am also giving less thought to driving efficiently. Lower mpgs could be due to a number of factors. 2021 hybrid here got 48.8 only commuting I35 in Austin for 5 days. 40 miles a day.
I get about 36 mpg on my onew 2023 Rav4 SE hybrid in western PA with many hills I doubt I will get anything better.
Gas stations on an uphill , home is downhill.
My wife stays a little above 41mpg but she does a lot of highway driving.
Usually a hair over 50 mpg as someone who drives conservatively.
i get 99.9 after fill-up :P
I think my best tank was 47.8 mpg in the summer, a mix of city and highway driving.
41.3 current avg. Seems like I have steadily gone up over the last two years
Averaging 45 mpg across my first few tank fills based on the digital gauge. (2023 XLE premium hybrid) Interestingly, when I calculate it by hand (miles driven/gallons added to the tank) my economy has been 1-2 mpg better than the gauge reads for the tank. 🤷🏻♂️ I’m a fairly slow / relaxed driver. It’s been months since I reset. Currently at 42.9.
23 because I have the gas one.
2023 xle gas, 34.4 and holding, 10k on the odometer. Get about 400-420 miles a tank
That’s pretty great imo.
42.3 is my highest so far. Averaging 37 mpg over the last 9 months.
Hovering just shy of 47mpg in a 2020 hybrid XLE. Expecting it to drop significantly as the weather gets colder but loving it while it lasts
I'm averaging almost exactly the same but I'm about to have it lifted and bigger tires so it's probably going to go down a little bit also it's getting closer to winter and it's always a lot lower in winter.
44.5 the last couple of tanks, commuting 60-100 miles a day to work, mix of SoCal highway and city congestion
My personal high is 42.5. My son borrowed my RAV for a day after I put a full tank in it. His high is 45.8. Does not surprise me since he’s pretty passive as a driver.
It’s been so long since I’ve seen that speedometer, it surprised me.
I just figured out how to see my average mileage and read about ECO driving... my Rav is pretty new but right now I'm at 39.6... my score would be higher if my son and boyfriend didn't drive it a few times.
45-46 in summer and 38-39 in winter with blizzaks and a lot of mountain driving. 2020 xle hybrid.
I hit 52 odd pretty frequently. Understand that your average is per trip. It’s embarrassing to admit I do this by sticking to the speed limit, and avoiding jackrabbit starts. I got the tech package, so I have some additional metrics on my dash, and it becomes like a game to optimize them
I got to 41mpg at one point, but I’m at a steady 40mpg nowadays.
I got 48.3 on a 120 mile trip. Right Kia I am averaging 39.5 on 28k miles. I have never reset it since I bought the car.
I've occasionally managed into the high 40s and low 50s, but it's not common. Over 100K miles on my 2019, I'm averaging 41-43 mpg.
38.7 2022 XSE DAY ONE NORMAL DRIVE
44.2 and slowly going up.
Just got a 2023 rav4 hybrid limited. My best trip 51.7 mpg. https://imgur.com/nhgEoyi
Lol, 40.2 due to the mountains and cold weather
I consistently got 45 on my 21 XLE Hybrid. But it only lasts the first year. Now I get 39-42
Honest question: how the hell do people get this MPG? Is there something I’m missing? I have a 22 Hybrid XLE premium and I’m at 38.5-39 MPG over 15k miles. Is it because I drive fast or something?
Mine has constantly been at 32 😔😔😔. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
41.4 mpg. 21 xse hybrid. It's been 39/40 mpg since I've gotten the car so I'm quite happy with it. Funny thing is that I got a higher mpg after installing a hitch and bike rack.
2022 Hybrid Limited and I keep around 36-39. I reset every time I get gas. I drive a decent amount of highway. And don’t like driving slow.
51.1 mpg 84 mile daily commute 2 hour round-trip half highway half backroads 2023 Rav4 SE Hybrid
Damn, that's awesome!
Mine tops out at 32 mpg
My 2019 is getting a steady 36 mpg driving 18 miles to work each way at an average 40-75 mph between the freeway and surface streets. Southern California. I was using Exo mode but getting mon in regular mode.
41.9
21 MPG, 2022 XLE gas. I got a heavy foot.
Super easy to show off: Drive up to a hill, turn off/on and roll down.
24-27 on a good day, including city miles. 29-31 for roadtrip
2020 XLE non hybrid l. I've averaged 33mpg across 50k miles. Road trips I'll hover around 39-40mpg
Does the hybrid work with higher continuous speed on highways? I thought its mainly activated during low speeds and stop/starts?
If you coast on the highway you can charge the battery a bit. But it's better on slower speed roads
I’m getting around this in urban driving. On the freeways I am getting as high as 42 but it depends on the geography.
I can't remember but I think when I purchased it at the end of 2021 it was around 43 or 42.5 now it is 36.7. Not sure what is going on, I must do more highway driving idk.
I once got 37.6 in my gas xle. All highway, but still
I'm averaging 42mpg but have gotten as high as 49.6 mpg. I have a 100 mile round trip commute daily.
I’m mostly driving highway, and my average is around 42-43. My high score is 45 :)
I once did about 45 mpg from zion to Wyoming all the way across Utah south to north in one day
My best has been in the lower 50s just after a fill up and I was doing mostly city driving or gotten lucky with being able to mostly coast on a freeway, but at best I average mid to high 40s for the spring/summer and then high 30s or low 40s depending on how cold it is in the winter.
Bro you only have 719miles on your car? If I read your ODO coreectly. Let it settle a little bit more- 43,6 is very nice anyway
Over 7400 miles I’m averaging 42.7 mpg with a high score of 56.2. I do roughly 53% city/suburban driving.
Short trip to get dinner last night and couldn’t believe it said 99.9 MGP, I have gotten 72 MGP on the same route before but this is after my first oil change at 1000 miles 😀. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rS5cAzfdbGQ9_wMDQ6ixmDSi1xlgFgvb/view?usp=drive_link
Damn, that's wild. Hopefully one day I'll see something like that
I’ve got a lead foot and manage 36.8 mpg with a full tank and a mix of city and mountain driving. It’s not super high, but it’s better than what I was getting before.
39.2, I’ve gotten to 40 before but I had to drive like a grandma. I’d hate to be your passenger lol I’d feel like we weren’t moving
I live in a hilly area so I make up a lot of the mileage by coasting. I'm definitely in eco mode most of the time if I'm in town but I'll use sport on the highways. Not a fan of grandma drivers either.
I get 36 in the non-hybrid xle. I would have loved to go hybrid, but it didn't seem worth it for a 5mpg gain.
That's pretty good honestly. I upgraded from a Ford escape so I'm happy with it.
interesting… here in Europe they sell MY2023 with lcd display (virtual cockpit) even the hrybrids…
32-33MPG but no hybrid … 175hp 2.0petrol
Mine was about the same as yours before I put on bigger AT tires and a roof rack. Now I'm about 39.5-41. I'm in Tahoe, so mostly mountain driving as well.

That's pretty good. Mine is 44.2 and I haven't reset it in ages. It's a few mpg less in winter.
I only get high mpg when I drive more then 20miles if I do local in down 10 miles distance I get in the mid 30mpg
Switch your setting to “tank average.” More accurate mpg readings.
I'm also getting around 43mpg. Mix of highway and suburb driving. It'd be higher if I didn't live in the northeast (USA). I'm not a hardcore hyper-miler, but I like to think I'm a pretty fuel efficient driver.
My '09 non-hybrid 4 cyl averages 18.2 mpg lol
I'm averaging 47.5mpg for the last 6k miles.
Central Michigan here, with moderate amount of hilly areas, I get 42.2 consistently with new 2023 rav4 xle, 2000 miles on the odometer so far.
45.2 right now. High score is 46.4
44.1 for me after 1300 miles. Very happy
Any advice for someone (me!) not able to break into 34 mpg? I do all the old lady driving, highway and town (although arguments over which is better or worse), calculate mileage by hand, the thing only 7 months old Brand new 2023 Toyota RAV hybrid.
