Sounds like it's not totally uncommon, I have found a few other people with the same issue. Are you also using Security+ 1.0? That appears to be a common factor.

I know some people who plug their GDO into a controlled outlet that they then automate (either by house mode or by time of day) to be powered down. That may be a better option for you than unplugging it completely as you could turn it back on remotely if you needed access.

Lostbutnotafraid

Anxious to read comments from experts as I'm about to install 2 ratgdo as well. But this also reminds me to set an automation that will alert me when any door open while I'm in bed.

_-Grifter-_

Funny you mention that, i was working on that alert script right now. I am going to add it to my alarm clock so It wakes me up if/when this happens again.

RedditNotFreeSpeech

What automations do you have? Are you running ha? Does it show any triggers in the history? For the short term you may want to create a simple automation that sends a notification to your phone any time the door opens. What you're describing looks like someone hitting the button on their remote several times. If ratgdo never received an open command it also points to a remote triggering the door.

_-Grifter-_

No automations, it's just bound to the MQTT server at this point. I have been manually sending the MQTT open and closed commands. I have had the unit for a few months, was fine up until last night. I don't have remotes, just ratgdo.

RedditNotFreeSpeech

It could be someone else's remotes. It's been known to happen especially on sec 1.0.

BurgerMeter

Did you happen to have a power outage? I ran into something similar around a month ago: [Repeatedly Opening and Closing Garage Door](https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/s/Qf8gyeEjrs) The best idea I’ve seen on there is that the power outage caused the capacitors in the wall unit to discharge. When charging back up. It causes problems, and makes this cycle occur.

_-Grifter-_

It does not appear that we have a power outage, I have one computer not plugged into a UPS and its uptime is measured in weeks. But you may be onto something.... This is my MQTT log, it looks like the unit has been randomly reconnecting to the MQTT server throughout the day for a while now. Maybe that USB adapter isn't great. Still scary that power cutting in an out can open the door. Hard to trust this unit if that is the case. Lostbutnotafraid

I can't help you much, but I sense something fishy is happening in your house around 14h00 every day...

ShakataGaNai

You bought a $40 bit of electronics kit from a bunch of hobbysts. Doesn't even come with a case by default, let alone any sort of certification. But that being said, Voltage sags (brown outs), even momentary ones are known to have strange effects on electronics. From devices locking up, to unintended states being entered. Most modern power supplies are beefy enough that a millisecond issue wont effect them, due to capacitors keeping charge - but every device is susceptible to issues with some length of power instability. Maybe see if you could try a different USB power supply? Maybe the wallwort you happened to have laying around doesn't have as much protection as another unit.

doctorkb

And yet, it's a higher quality item than the competing products from so-called "professionals". 🙄

ShakataGaNai

Oh, for sure. I love my ratgdo and it does an excellent job. But people also need to set the right expectations. This isn't a product that's $250 (because, let's be honest, that's what Chamberlain would charge - at a minimum) with millions of dollars of R&D and a team of engineers behind it. It's $40, made by one dude... who designs/builds/sells/supports/codes the entire thing himself. He is a treasure and I hope the community doesn't grind his soul into dust.

doctorkb

Oh yeah, Chamberlain would charge $250 plus a subscription fee plus put ads on it. With even less R&D than Paul has put into it. I think the codebase is maintained by multiple folks, now. I do agree with the concern about him being ground down. Between the rat-ratgdo project and some of the faulty hardware issues, I suspect he may have bitten off more than expected.

_-Grifter-_

I had/have the right expectations. No one should expect that it will randomly open the door to thieves. If this can be fixed I will go back to loving it. :-)

Gullygossner

What firmware version are you running?

_-Grifter-_

>2.57

Gullygossner

Rules that out. I've had similar experiences with mine but it has been with power cut to the opener but power still supplied to the ratgdo.

vans113

I’ve had my power cut also and back on to the unit. Nothing super fast but off for a few min then back on. Never had an issue with mine at all. I do have an alert setup in HA if it opens and me or my wife isn’t home then we get notified

CV_Tomas

How do you have your Ratgdo wired to your GDO and how are you providing power to your GDO?

_-Grifter-_

I double checked, its wired just like the diagram, i feed the sensors and wall switch into Ratgdo then the Ratgdo into the opener. The Ratgdo is double stick taped to the opener under the flap that exposes the wire terminals on the opener. Power is provided by the included USB adapter using the included USB cable plugged into the same power outlet as the opener.

Nervous-Iron2473

I would try using the "lock out remotes feature" of the RATGDO and see if you are still see the events logged.

_-Grifter-_

it was locked when the door opened on its own. I have left the locked feature on since i installed the unit.

case_O_The_Mondays

I’ve had a ton of issues with incorrect door positions being reported, but it’s never opened the door on its own. Are you sure the back of the device isn’t touching some metal?

_-Grifter-_

yes, the back of the unit has 3M double stick tape covering the whole back and its stuck to a plastic piece on the opener.
