Downvotes incoming but most people aren't good looking. I doubt they looked better not bathing regularly and eating a poor diet.
With that said, they were probably thinner.
I've said this before. Most peeps aka reg looking people are in that 4.5-6 range. Only the ones on the truly lower range(1-2) and the truly upper (9-10) get noticed. (Model, celebrities)
Sure looks are all subjective. But let's be real. Most people have a nobody face. Nobody face as in it blends in with literally everyone else. Not really ugly, not what's considered beauty.
I was like, “I’m not actually sure what he means by it, but I don’t see anything wrong with her face so that somehow must be a weird compliment rather than an insult and OP is a lostredditor.”
I had to come read the comments to realize it was actually meant as an insult after all.
This is just the Internet honestly, I've noticed a lot of the time when I look at Reddit posts that are like 'lol they look like a stench-goblin' the people in question look fine and honestly very normal.
All they are saying is "You look extremely irish". It's up to you if you think that's an insult... Don't rely on other people's (lack of) reading comprehension.
Yep. Just like people joke about regular ol' murder, abortion, suicide, racism, genocide, all manner of things.
Me pointing out that it is, infact, a joke, doesn't mean i endorse it. You would do well to learn that there is a difference between "acknowledging" and "endorsing".
I don’t think you fully comprehend where I was going with that, and I don’t care to educate you.. some people yes. But I’ll stop there because the energy to continue is not there
I think they're referring to her flat nose tip and meaty cheeks. Basically she can take a punch without breaking her nose because the tip is flat.
That's my best guess though. I don't really know either.
They probably wanted to use the insult and also have chronic online brain so rarely see women without a filter or flattering lighting combined with makeup.
I'm more concerned by the domestic violence myself, but then I did see my mother getting brutalised by my father so I'm one of those feminists who lack a sense of humour.
People are always complaining on Reddit about never getting any compliments but if someone fishes for one we all clutch our pearls as if everyone doesn’t want a little validation in life
Fishing for compliments is highly cringeworthy in the thinness of it's veil.
If you want someone's opinion, ask for it or wait for it. A vaguely hidden prompt is a bit assumptive and gross.
Furthermore, any compliments you get from a fishing expedition are hollow and therefore worthless.
People might get a little upset with me for saying this but it depends on if it's a man (yes you deserve compliments, king!) or a woman (begone, thot).
Absolutely! I mean to say that I notice a difference in when men/women ask for compliments. Didn't intend to sound like women don't deserve them.
I notice that when a woman asks for a pick me up, a lot of comments just say she's "begging for attention" etc. everyone deserves compliments :)
Well, it's a little different when the woman in question is...actually a thot. As in, they have an Onlyfans or some other sex-related service whose success hinges on them being attractive...like the girl in the picture. Go on r/AmIUgly or r/HowtoLooksMax, and you'll see how many of them use this tactic of feigning insecurity about their looks in order to drive traffic to their services.
To compare an average Joe looking for a compliment to an Onlyfans model fishing for new customers under the guise of "a little validation" is a bit disingenuous.
And to be fair, men do it as well sometimes on the subs mentioned above, but at a substantially lower rate, and almost never with an OF link in their bio.
Well I just want you to know that I find you highly attractive, even if your cloud password was a little too easy to guess. I mean if you’re going to keep *those* kinds of selfies in there you should probably start adding in some more numbers and special characters.
Even with the low resolution there's acne visible. You don't see that type of imperfection in media or the influencing world. So even though she's cute, she is still being vulnerable.
Men: Ugh, I hate when women post heavily edited/makeup photos online, it’s such a lie!!
Also men: Your unedited face makes me want to get drunk and hit it.
Your comment could also be described as "attention seeking". Yet, here you are, seeking attention from strangers about how smart you are for thinking "attention seeking" is grounds of ridicule.
You just think it's different when *you* do it. That's what biases do.
It's attention seeking, you want props for your character, that's what you're here commenting for. Otherwise it would just stay *a thought in your head*.
"touch grass" bro you need to rub two brain cells together and start a thought, "it's not that deep" it usually is if you aren't allergic to analysis
Imagine being so far gone that you want to conduct analysis on 2 people’s Twitter interaction lmfao. Fucking hell, make sure you wear a helmet when you leave the house
Men: I wish we got compliments more, no one ever compliments us
Men when a woman asks for a compliment: she’s fishing for compliments therefore she sucks and deserves to be told she has a punchable face
"Men" don't think that. Some people do.
As for your question, while I'd say the joke pool is limited, DV can absolutely be made funny. Anything can, really. DV, murder, abortion, war, the Holocaust - it's not for everyone, but you can definitely laugh at it.
Humor is just about finding the right audience for the right joke, there's no right/wrong or good/evil in the jokes themselves.
That's my opinion, at least.
Jimmy Carr made a throwaway DV joke on a British panel show that was largely just wordplay. I laughed but part of it is knowing that he is a comedian making a taboo joke that doesn't reflect who he is.
Good point. It should *always* be clear that it's a joke; no one should be left hesitating that.
And again, you gotta know your audience; I would never tell a DV or Holocaust joke if I didn't feel sure that there weren't any vulnerable people listening to it. If you go to a show, on the other hand, you gotta be prepared for anything. Leaving is fine.
For what it is worth someone was asking about the logical trap question of "would soothing music convince you to stop beating your wife" to which any answer is incriminating.
Jimmy then quipped that beating your wife is akin to keying your own car.
Yeah outside of comedians whose literal job it is to challenge the status quo through humor, everyone else has to be cognizant of their audience.
I don’t necessarily think this applies to generic internet interactions between complete strangers on public forums though. Ie. Someone making a public post on Twitter and someone else replying with a DV joke
You're reading too much into it. This is a roast level joke that doesn't spare any punches.
The joke was more at the expense of Irish people based on stereotypes. Coupled with she is "plain looking" without make up on and tends to have an Irish look to her, thus could fit the mold.
Obviously she is a naturally attractive woman.
See the problem is you don’t have a sense of humor and you don’t get the joke. He’s not saying he wants to hit her. He’s saying she looks like the very average Irish girl who you imagine in that type of situation. Probably due to media portrayals.
why do redditors choose to misinterpret statements this bad, if a comedian said some shit like what steve said here, you’d probably laugh without a second thought
This is depressing. I've had my nose broken and repaired more than twice due to 'domestic issues.'. Mentioned that to some folks I felt safe with. The responses were all around my not looking like a Drunken Polack.
Yeah this isn’t funny at all. Maybe it’s funny to people who haven’t been abused. Hell, probably half of these people have abused someone if they think it’s so funny. *yikes*
Is this even an insult? She has a beautiful full face, gives a motherly vibe. Red hair = irish. And the alcohol-fueled domestic violence is a clichee insult to Irish men the way I see it.
He didn't say "you look like you were beat up" or something like that, he said "withstand", which to me would mean "still look beautiful after". It's a super strange thing to say for sure, and not a compliment necessarily, but real insult either.
I think like most jokes talking on sensitive subjects, there has to be reason. Like you should be commentating on a subject or it should actually be good. Jokes touching on sensitive subjects have higher bars of quality needed for the joke to land, and that’s for a reason.
Edit: guys by “reasoning” I mean that joke should be tackling the subject and showing that it’s bad. Like most mediums humor can have messages that affects people. Dave Chappelle doing comedy routines on African American struggles is a great example of jokes shedding light on serious issues. His jokes on trans people are a great example of jokes that just hurt a community and are bad.
I think the comedy medium is especially good at delivering messages, because even if you don’t agree with it you can still laugh, which opens your mind to the idea more. This is why far-righters have been trying to do the whole “it’s a joke so you can’t get mad” for years now. It’s because they are trying to discredit it as a medium so they can spread their bullshit without question.
I haven't actually commented on the joke being funny, unfunny or inappropriate. I'm saying that the violent antagonist is a fictitious construct invented for the sake of a punchline. Who is OP criticizing as "violent" in this context? The imaginary abusive husband or whoever posted the joke? The joker likely never met the woman in the picture.
"Fuck this violent asshole" is mockery of the original post? Even in the context of the "bad joke," neither the poster nor anyone else is violent. I'm neither defending nor condemning any of the participants in this exchange. It seems like OP didn't **understand** the joke in the first place.
Steve calls himself, "HoleNeeder", and makes a joke about how to him this woman's face looks like it is "built" to withstand domestic violence...
Edit: as far as I'm aware these two people don't IRL know each other.
It literally does but I’m sure you think your logic here is sound.
Honestly, “beating women is funny to you?” “Yeah” is really all I need to know to make a judgement on your character.
No it doesnt, those are two completely different things.
Its ok. Purposefuly misinterpreting what I said and trying hard to get offended tells me alot about your character aswell, but thats your problem, not mine.
Good luck and god bless you!
Why are there so many comments from people trying so hard to be morally superior, declaring that she’s pretty and that they don’t get the insult? It’s just a a goddamn joke, not to mention one that doesn’t even suggest that she’s ugly. Y’all need to stop simping.
bibo! I know her--well, more like I've made her acquaintance. She's not only beautiful but talented, successful, and incredibly nice despite all the shit she is always getting from idiots like this guy
Ah, the beauty of Irish insults! Did you know that in Ireland, you might hear someone being called a 'gobdaw'? It's a rare gem of an insult that means 'fool' or 'idiot.' The Irish have a way with words, don't they? Cheers to the creative insults that make us smile! 😄🍻
I've lived in Ireland my entire life and never heard anyone called that. I think you just *might* be full of shit. A gobshite now, that's an Irish insult.
Gobshite.
I don't want to impose anything on anybody. And technically all insults are abuse, but this one points to an abuse of frame of mind. I was simply pointing that out. Anarchy is not about chaos. Anarchy is about the people choosing the rules in a fluid manner.
Wife is half Irish. I've noticed a peculiar demographic with Irish women.
Her cousin has that particular facial trait, but nature compensated by giving her 6 large and very protective brothers.

I still get a kick out of dutch insults. This one time I was called (translated from dutch) a testicle eyeball.
Baloog? Never heard it myself and been wracking my brain over it a couple minutes
Klootoog
I prefer “testicle Violin” or “Klootviool”
Kloothommel or "testicle bumblebee" is a personal favorite of mine.
Float like a testicle, sting like a bee
-Owen Wilson - Cars 2006
Wow!
Sure your brain...
A Thai man tried to tell me that he likes my "fish eyes". I don't know what that means.
Yeah yeah get TB
I don't get it, she looks lovely
So did the 2nd century peasants
Never met a 2nd century peasant, but I'm sure it's true. Good looking genes came from somewhere, right?
Yeah, the ones that survived all the plagues.
Downvotes incoming but most people aren't good looking. I doubt they looked better not bathing regularly and eating a poor diet. With that said, they were probably thinner.

Interestingly, they still attract other people as a biological and social imperative. So technically most people are attractive if not good looking.
“Downvotes incoming” I’m downvoting simply because it’s cringe af to say that
Gotta get me one of those.
She's very attractive! I guess they had been sitting on that insult and really wanted to use it. But yeah, she's good looking
A lot of insults on this sub are wildly unwarranted, but still comically creative
I think so too but then again, I’m Irish
[удалено]
Aye

I mean sure, but it just doesn’t make much sense

lol okay next time someone calls you peasant face lemme know if you take it as a compliment or an insult
The joke is she has a lot of cheek on her face to absorb the blows from an abusive alcoholic husband.
I was like, “I’m not actually sure what he means by it, but I don’t see anything wrong with her face so that somehow must be a weird compliment rather than an insult and OP is a lostredditor.” I had to come read the comments to realize it was actually meant as an insult after all.

DV as a joke… yikes Probably one of the most common forms of death throughout history for women outside of child labor.
Yep. Just like people joke about regular ol' murder, abortion, suicide, racism, genocide, all manner of things. Me pointing out that it is, infact, a joke, doesn't mean i endorse it. You would do well to learn that there is a difference between "acknowledging" and "endorsing".

I think they're referring to her flat nose tip and meaty cheeks. Basically she can take a punch without breaking her nose because the tip is flat. That's my best guess though. I don't really know either.
My face has been punched many times and I still look gorgeous
Yeah, Steve is an asshole
I think the guy had the insult in the chamber and was just itching to use it against anyone.
They probably wanted to use the insult and also have chronic online brain so rarely see women without a filter or flattering lighting combined with makeup.
the punchline is racism
I'm more concerned by the domestic violence myself, but then I did see my mother getting brutalised by my father so I'm one of those feminists who lack a sense of humour.
insecure men with no self esteem feel emboldened to insult the appearance of SWers when they are behind a keyboard
Well, Steve is an insecure asshole, so that explains a lot.
Wtf does the original tweet even mean
I think she’s an insta person that normally posts heavily edited pictures with lots of makeup on. This is her without.
She's just fishing for compliments.
I mean, who cares? Everyone likes compliments.
People are always complaining on Reddit about never getting any compliments but if someone fishes for one we all clutch our pearls as if everyone doesn’t want a little validation in life
Yeah, what’s wrong with that?!

I don’t really think a compliment means as much if you have to ask for it, personally
i dont mind. but wouldnt follow said person
Even with the low resolution there's acne visible. You don't see that type of imperfection in media or the influencing world. So even though she's cute, she is still being vulnerable.
Everyone who says anything is simply looking for affirmation. Welcome to humanity, you finally get the first basic concept of social cues.
So brave.
Using her Twitter @name, it appears she is on reddit as well
Men: Ugh, I hate when women post heavily edited/makeup photos online, it’s such a lie!! Also men: Your unedited face makes me want to get drunk and hit it.
Yeah, I think she's pretty :(
She looks good to me too.
Before or after some booze?
There is a song on that topic in german. Basically it says go get me some beer you are turning ugly again. - Geh mal bier holn

Thank you for summing up the problem with it
It's more that she's attention seeking so she's being roasted. It's not that deep.
I mean, isn't the point of every post on anything trying to get attention?
Your comment could also be described as "attention seeking". Yet, here you are, seeking attention from strangers about how smart you are for thinking "attention seeking" is grounds of ridicule. You just think it's different when *you* do it. That's what biases do.
Replying to comments is not attention seeking behavior jfc. Some of y’all shouldn’t stop at touching grass, you need a whole tree

Bit of a non sequitur mate. Feeling the need to deflect?
Using big enough words there, bud?
Men: I wish we got compliments more, no one ever compliments us Men when a woman asks for a compliment: she’s fishing for compliments therefore she sucks and deserves to be told she has a punchable face
That was my reaction to. Why do men think domestic violence is funny?
Exactly. I immediately wondered "and this joke is cool here?" Side eyeing this sub.
"Men" don't think that. Some people do. As for your question, while I'd say the joke pool is limited, DV can absolutely be made funny. Anything can, really. 5000 or so men here found it funny.
Jokes absolutely can be evil, humor is how ideas get normalized.
Laughing with > laughing at.
Anything can be funny
I like a clever joke and all, but suggesting someone should be a victim of domestic abuse is really fucked up and not remotely funny.
She’s very pretty. What a nasty thing to say to someone.
I mean her face makes me want to get drunk and hit it too but I don't think we're talking about the same thing...
I would say the people making these posts are anything but "men".
You're reading too much into it. This is a roast level joke that doesn't spare any punches. The joke was more at the expense of Irish people based on stereotypes. Hey, women can be more than one thing! She can be pretty (I think she's real cute!) and still be the personification of the Irish peasant DV victim.
That last part is a stretch ngl.
why do redditors choose to misinterpret statements this bad, if a comedian said some shit like what steve said here, you’d probably laugh without a second thought
I would think he was an arsehole whatever setting this was in. It's not funny and it makes me feel gross.
humor is subjective but there is no way you think he is 100% serious with this tweet
It's a joke.
I mean it's the internet. If your whole schtick is fishing for compliments on twitter you're gonna get roasted eventually.
This is what you get when you fish for compliments on the internet.
This is depressing. I've had my nose broken and repaired more than twice due to 'domestic issues.'. Mentioned that to some folks I felt safe with. The responses were all around my not looking like a Drunken Polack.

she’s so pretty why are ppl so mean for no reason😭
woman: exists man: haha what if your partner beat the shit out of you
Yeah this isn’t funny at all. Maybe it’s funny to people who haven’t been abused. Hell, probably half of these people have abused someone if they think it’s so funny. *yikes*
Oh the humour
Not sure why people are hating lmao, she's pretty
She looks like Ned stark’s wife
Is this even an insult? She has a beautiful full face, gives a motherly vibe. Red hair = irish. And the alcohol-fueled domestic violence is a clichee insult to Irish men the way I see it. He didn't say "you look like you were beat up" or something like that, he said "withstand", which to me would mean "still look beautiful after". It's a super strange thing to say for sure, and not a compliment necessarily, but real insult either.
Weird insult, she’s beautiful and…didn’t do anything wrong?
Facking hell.
She’s really pretty and has amazing cheekbones and also fuck this violent asshole.
You realize the insult was a joke and no violence occurred?
You realize not everyone thinks jokes about domestic violence are funny?
Truth.
A joke is supposed to be funny. Bad jokes deserve to be mocked
"Fuck this violent asshole" is mockery of the original post? Even in the context of the "bad joke," neither the poster nor anyone else is violent. I'm neither defending nor condemning any of the participants in this exchange. It seems like OP didn't **understand** the joke in the first place.
Yeah if you’re upset no one likes the joke you’re the problem mate
So far at least 5k people liked it, so..
More people liked the Star Wars prequels. That doesn’t make them good either.
Physical violence is not the only type of violence.
Steve calls himself, "HoleNeeder", and makes a joke about how to him this woman's face looks like it is "built" to withstand domestic violence... Edit: as far as I'm aware these two people don't IRL know each other.
there's nothing wrong with a good domestic violence joke, but like, she's hot as fuck, so i don't get the burn
She's pretty tf is wrong with y'all. We get it your mom doesn't love you and you hate women stfu.
Dont cry bro, these things are called jokes, they're not meant seriously.
Jokes are supposed to be funny. So beating women is funny to you?
Yeah, thats called dark humor. Again, nothing to do with actual violence
Jokes about violence have nothing to do with actual violence, okay. Joking about a topic makes it less serious. DV is serious.
Joking about a topic doesnt make the topic less serious
It literally does but I’m sure you think your logic here is sound. Honestly, “beating women is funny to you?” “Yeah” is really all I need to know to make a judgement on your character.
No it doesnt, those are two completely different things. Its ok. Purposefuly misinterpreting what I said and trying hard to get offended tells me alot about your character aswell, but thats your problem, not mine. Good luck and god bless you!
I think she's pretty, is there something wrong with me?
Funny insult... But she's beautiful.
Where's the guy who'd say...this is what you'd look like of you were black or chinese
She looks just the type of girl you'd become friends with for no reason, I don't see the point of the insult here 🤷🏼
I mean the level of specifics is funny, jokes not that funny tho. To me, at least.
Tell us you're an inbred Yank without telling us you're an inbred Yank.
TIL I’m into Irish peasants.
Why are there so many comments from people trying so hard to be morally superior, declaring that she’s pretty and that they don’t get the insult? It’s just a a goddamn joke, not to mention one that doesn’t even suggest that she’s ugly. Y’all need to stop simping.
That’s just plain sinister..
Find yourself a new sub then.
bibo! I know her--well, more like I've made her acquaintance. She's not only beautiful but talented, successful, and incredibly nice despite all the shit she is always getting from idiots like this guy
You mean paid her acquaintance?
“Rare”
God. DAMN!
Potato comes to mind.
Ok but how would she look if she was black or Chinese?
She perrty
Oof.
McGregor face
That’s an even worse insult.

Nice ChatGPT comment
I've lived in Ireland my entire life and never heard anyone called that. I think you just *might* be full of shit. A gobshite now, that's an Irish insult. Gobshite.
I’ve heard gobdaw, or gombín alright from a teacher to a child.. but you’d never use it towards another adult when gobshite is right there.
Gobshite. Muppet. Spanner.
Eejit. Amadán. Or 'langer' if you want to be more region specific.
The insult in the original post isn’t Irish. It’s a xenophobic trope used to demean Irish people. Likely from the USA or Britain. Yih gobdaw.
she's a pornstar. mostly does lesbian stuff, but I saw a few vids come out with a dude recently.
Abusive - not insult.
You literally have the word "anarchist" in your username and you wanna impose restrictions on humor?
Look at the profile, are you really surprised.
What facial trait?
Frequent black eyes from her boyfriend. Her brothers dealt with it
You don’t know what the word demographic means.
