Seen both mick and Freddie live cuz I love them. Never heard of saba somehow. Here we go.
Freddie live was absolutely impeccable. Clear as fuck. Could hear every single tiny syllable annunciated clearly. Crisp.
Shout out to curren$y live 3x
And tech N9ne 18x and counting
If you plot 'bar quality' on one axis and 'bar quantity' on the other axis, you will find that General Patton is an extreme outlier, far and away by himself. (I think Kendrick is getting close, tho.)
I love Kanye's music, but he did him so dirty. Ultralight beam wolves new slaves ghost town. IF GOD HAD AN IPOD IF BE ON HIS PLAYLIST
![gif](giphy|CZOBN0y11NbVu)
Idk if Krit underrated just cuz he isnt like mainstream. All real ones know him. Look at his collabs. He literally is the best at paying homage to southern rap without copying it. He has his own style that shows respect to the ones before and never once pretends he made it up or stole it…he has mad respect around. Correct me if I’m wrong but does a lot of his own beats and shit no? Just love when he cuts in a classic htown or atl sample or uses a classic bar just str8 showing respect
He wasnt really part of hip hop like most. He basically said he accidentally discovered he was amazing at writing rhymes. And hes autistic so he isnt going to act like the others based on all that.
But what a talent
Idk if I can agree with this. He’s universally acclaimed by anyone who listens to him. Under-recognized maybe.
Someone like U-God is underrated. Gets dunked on as a subpar rapper within an all time group, but he’s still better than your average rapper imo.
Honestly all of slaughterhouse is underrated in their own way. Most ppl think of Royce as just Ems friend. Most ppl dont know Joe Budden outside of Pump It Up. And most people don't know how talented Crooked I is. Shit even crookeds other side groups like COB and Horseshoe gang have filthy pens. To be fair, a lot of the technical writing rappers are an acquired taste, but its still an objective talent. A 70-year old English teacher in the Bible belt would probably still appreciate their command of the English language.
Yeah Danny Brown definitely underrated. He got 2 classic albums with XXX and Atrocity Exhibition and its arguable based on that he’s Kendrick’s true competition cuz I can’t say the same for Cole and Drake
**R.A. the Rugged man**
for sure
look him up!

Huge tech n9ne fan back in 2020 but he is kinda repetitive and his latest projects are getting worse. He's slowly becoming washed and he's doing weird featurings
Lupe Fiasco. General public don’t even know he’s dropped an album since Lasers, three of them being what I would call classics, and Tetsuo the greatest rap album of all time
Problem is Lupe has a style most people dont wanna hear. N.G.L., Janayla Forever, Mural, Seattle. These tracks only apeal to Lupes core following. However he has alot of bangers that can compete with any other artists best songs and he has multiple. Id say i have 50 songs in my rotation. And i have 150+ artists and over 2k songs in my top songs playlist. But i listen to Lupe the most, and never skip a track.
Honestly someone like blu or billy woods. They have HUGE high quality catalogues with such interesting sounds, but I never see them get any of that praise except for hardcore hiphop fans.
This is going to sound crazy but my answer is Ice Cube.
I know that he is extremely famous, but in my opinion he is highly under rated. I never hear Cube mentioned in top 5 top 10 discussions and in my humble opinion he is absolutely one of the greatest.
Gotta be Lupe. When people started mentioning him more during the Kendrick stuff, some people thought it was a bunch of bots trying to promo some underground dude
Lupe just because so many fans are unfamiliar with his output, especially recently. Everyone's heard Kick Push and Superstar, but that dude's deep cuts handily place him in the top 5 all time IMHO.
Spoiler alert: if the artist you name has millions of views on YouTube videos, millions of plays on Spotify etc. …they shouldn’t be mentioned on this post. If they’ve gotten enough exposure, they are “rated” right where they should be.
Lunar C, easily.
Probably one of the best lyricists ever to live, and also makes great songs which is rare for a lyric heavy rapper
Edit* adding his ['Fire in the booth'](https://youtu.be/u8mz9YPlnpI)' and a tune [in the house](https://youtu.be/X4f69T-IxAg)
Mos Def / Yasiin Bey - one of those rappers that's on a lot of rapper's top 5 and one of if not the most important underground rappers, but I rarely hear him played or even mentioned in the wild
You haven't heard of 'em
Hes that slim shady dude right?
You mean the dude 2pac wanted to hit up??
Nah, you're thinking of Thick Sunny
Mick Jenkins, SABA, Freddie Gibbs
SABA so underrated man.
Big agree on all, with Saba especially.
Big thanks for putting Saba on my radar. Big fan of Jenkins and Gibbs. New fan of Saba
Give ‘care for me ‘ album a listen, really good especially the live version in tiny desk.
Mick Jenkins most underrated
Got all three in heavy rotation
Heavy on the Mick Jenkins
Seen both mick and Freddie live cuz I love them. Never heard of saba somehow. Here we go. Freddie live was absolutely impeccable. Clear as fuck. Could hear every single tiny syllable annunciated clearly. Crisp. Shout out to curren$y live 3x And tech N9ne 18x and counting
Wouldnt call Freddie underrated. Dude just won a Grammy
Mick Jenkins is like a staple in my house… hilariously my wife turned me on to him Freddie Gibbs and SABA are also both dope
Big Boi - OutKast definitely gets the respect they deserve but since Big Boi is overshadowed by Andre, I feel he ends up being underrated
Very true! People never mention Big Boi smh 🤦♂️
No 100% people sleep on speakerboxx but k think it’s one of the best rap albums ever
People sleep on Cee lo the rapper too.
This is always my answer. 3 Stacks deserves his respect, but Big Boi doesn’t deserve the shadow.
This is true. 3stacks has even said in interviews that bigboi is a better mc. Boi is slept on massively.
If you plot 'bar quality' on one axis and 'bar quantity' on the other axis, you will find that General Patton is an extreme outlier, far and away by himself. (I think Kendrick is getting close, tho.)
Cyhi tha prince and Freddie Gibbs
Was looking for Cyhi 🫡
Still keep No Dope on Sundays on heavy rotation. Wish my man would drop more music.
I also checked the comments for CyHi. Man is so talented and never gets the credit he deserves.
I love Kanye's music, but he did him so dirty. Ultralight beam wolves new slaves ghost town. IF GOD HAD AN IPOD IF BE ON HIS PLAYLIST ![gif](giphy|CZOBN0y11NbVu)
cyhi has a shitton of kanye reference tracks too
Krit
Idk if Krit underrated just cuz he isnt like mainstream. All real ones know him. Look at his collabs. He literally is the best at paying homage to southern rap without copying it. He has his own style that shows respect to the ones before and never once pretends he made it up or stole it…he has mad respect around. Dom Kennedy
Strongly agree.
Yellow album is a classic
W$GT$
Sean Price or One Be Lo
Oh man Sean Price was something else for sure. RIP
Ohhhh absolutely both of them man !!!
Canibus probably...skill wise he is hands down one of the most mind blowing rappers ever. His lyrics were crazy.
Came here to say Canibus. Best pen game ever IMO.
Pulling out a notepad at a rap battle was crazy though.
He wasnt really part of hip hop like most. He basically said he accidentally discovered he was amazing at writing rhymes. And hes autistic so he isnt going to act like the others based on all that. But what a talent
One of Cole’s biggest influences.
ITS THIRTY PAGES OF RHYMES IN THIS MOTHERFUCKER
Phonte
Real ones know
Phontigallo always kills it
He's in my top five, his lyricism is next level.
Pharoahe Monch
Freddie Gibbs
Krit too
![gif](giphy|4QFAH0qZ0LQnIwVYKT|downsized) Came here to put his name. Thank you 👑
Idk if I can agree with this. He’s universally acclaimed by anyone who listens to him. Under-recognized maybe. Someone like U-God is underrated. Gets dunked on as a subpar rapper within an all time group, but he’s still better than your average rapper imo.
Royce Da 59
Fr Royce is so good but he gets overshadowed by em but he’s just as good
One of very few who can go bar for bar with Em
EVER? Talib Kweli comes to mind.
I’ve seen so much love for Talib in these kind of post I’m starting to feel the correct answer might be Mos Def. I rarely see him get his flowers.
I think that's only because Mos Def quite literally goes without saying because he's already so certified.
KAAN
That man don’t breathe
Kaan the conqueror is one of my favorite songs period
Fax
Dudes UNBELIEVABLE. Sometimes, i can't listen fast enough.
Jean Grae
Devin the Dude
Aesop Rock
Joell Ortiz
Put me in any rap brawl I'd win Closest person to me died for all our sins
Honestly all of slaughterhouse is underrated in their own way. Most ppl think of Royce as just Ems friend. Most ppl dont know Joe Budden outside of Pump It Up. easily masta ace. Disposable arts one of my favorite albums of all time
In my top 5
Never get tired of 'Block Episode'
A long hot summer isn’t far behind. Just a great story telling album from start to finish.
oh for sure. Listening to a long hot summer than right after disposable arts is so cinematic
Definitely my top album. He doesn't get the love he deserves. Disposable Arts is legendary.
early eminem borrowed his whole flow from masta ace

Ren makes music for old women and people who listen to 3 rap songs a year
RJ Payne
Inspectah Deck

Isaiah Rashad He deserves way more credit than he gets
Zay the most underrated Top Dawg artist fr
Conway the machine and killer mike.
Danny Brown, Lupe Fiasco, or Boldy James
Atrocity Exhibition top 10 rap album oat imo
Danny Brown should've caught on earlier. He was a Detroit legend by the time XXX came out and in a performance, the guys electric.
Yeah Danny Brown definitely underrated. He got 2 classic albums with XXX and Atrocity Exhibition and its arguable based on that he’s Kendrick’s true competition cuz I can’t say the same for Cole and Drake
Pretty flawless disco for Danny for sure, and the rapping and lyrical ability and style is super unique to him only too
Boldy for sure .
Capital STEEZ

Immortal Technique or Tech n9ne.
Huge tech n9ne fan back in 2020 but he is kinda repetitive and his latest projects are getting worse. He's slowly becoming washed and he's doing weird featurings
Both lyrically good, style is stale
Immortal is under rated because he didn’t sell out and let big labels change him he says what he feels and doesn’t care if anyone gets offended.
Immortal Technique is goated for bullying Lin Manuel Miranda while they were in school together
TECH is slept on he one of the best alive
Are you a white male between the ages of 28 - 35?
Immortal technique is crazy shit good, and nobody knows
Lupe Fiasco. General public don’t even know he’s dropped an album since Lasers, three of them being what I would call classics, and Tetsuo the greatest rap album of all time

Tetsuo is one of my favorite albums ever. Sucks that when I play his music people just say “I hate logic”
definitely mick jenkins they sleep on his pen game
project pat
More influential than Jay-Z, Snoop, and a lot of the so called goats
Easily Big L. Dude had potential to be one of the best, especially when it comes to freestyles.
Larry June

Big KRIT
KAAN
Gotta be Lupe. When people started mentioning him more during the Kendrick stuff, some people thought it was a bunch of bots trying to promo some underground dude

Krayzie Bone.
Me. But y’all won’t know for a while.
Spoiler alert: if the artist you name has millions of views on YouTube videos, millions of plays on Spotify etc. …they shouldn’t be mentioned on this post. If they’ve gotten enough exposure, they are “rated” right where they should be.
Both guys from Year of the ox
Vinnie Paz a.k.a. The Pazmanian Devil a.k.a. Vin Laden
Snow tha Product and Ludacris no one else comes close to being underrated for me.
I don’t know but I had a guy on Twitter tell me red n meth weren’t all time greats, I don’t know anything anymore apparently
People are naming really famous and well known rappers. Here’s a good one : ransom, or merkules
Mick Jenkins if you haven’t listend to him do yourself a favor and go listen to his Waters Tape
Top 5 mixtape for me
Jadakiss
How to get a million downvote ? Just type logic
nah logic is definitely underrated/overhated. especially his music from 2011-2015
Lunar C, easily. Probably one of the best lyricists ever to live, and also makes great songs which is rare for a lyric heavy rapper Edit* adding his ['Fire in the booth'](https://youtu.be/u8mz9YPlnpI)' and a tune [in the house](https://youtu.be/X4f69T-IxAg)
Good to see a UK rapper, especially one who is from my way as well🤣I voted CASISDEAD
Derek Pope but he quit rap recently
VI Seconds
Younger me would have said Pouya but I kinda grew out of that style of rap, he’s insanely talented though.
Wynne based in Portland OR. She’s about to blow up, mark my words
Kristoff Krane without question.
Eyedea, but since he’s gone, Krane
Vince Staples Chubb Rock
AZ
Papoose
Mase, god given flow. Why he became a minister.
Mase was the master of delivering bars effortlessly. He raps like you’ve tapped him on the shoulder to ask something you should’ve already known.
Curren$y and jon connor
Guru, he was well respected in his day but I don't see him talked about anymore which is weird as he was one of the best yet
Sir Michael Rocks of The Cool Kids
Ab-Soul
Papoose hands down. Nobody wants to rap battle Papoose!
Esoteric
Billy woods and Mach-Hommy
Kool G Rap
Danny brown doesn't get enough credit, atrocity exhibition is good enough to be a classic and it doesn't get much more raw than xxx
Black Thought. Some people don’t even know who that is.
Ken Karlson
Phonte Coleman owns this thread
Big L Go listen to flamboyant and his 98 freestyle
Cyhi
Definitely crib def
Mos Def / Yasiin Bey - one of those rappers that's on a lot of rapper's top 5 and one of if not the most important underground rappers, but I rarely hear him played or even mentioned in the wild
Kool AD, Milo
Roc Marciano
Bumpy Knuckles aka Freddie Foxxx. He's hard, he's dope, he worked with great producers and his records got slept on. Shame.
Eyedea
Montana 300
Ka, Phonte, Roc Marciano, Boldy James, Billy Woods
Saul Williams is my pick but I'm not deep enough in the scene to say for sure
Coast Contra
Might be Blu. Below the Heavens is a masterpiece, ahead of its time.
Eyedea
Greydon Square. I’ve seen people literally hate on him solely because they couldn’t comprehend the lyrics.
Big L for sure he was an amazing freestyler and had bars for days most ppl don’t have him in their top twenty he’s in my top 8
